What’s the best advice I would give to someone younger than me?

There’s actually numerous ways I could answer this question, so, I will give you the one I believe to be the most serious of them all.

Our youth face many obstacles in today’s society.

Sadly, all of which place incredible burdens on them.

My turning 69 years old next month has Blessed me with an understanding of life that comes from, not my age, but rather the seven decades I was fortunate enough to experience.

The 1960’s and 70’s were a time of man that changed the world in all manners.

Mostly for the betterment of society, may I add.

Every aspect of the world changed rapidly during those two decades.

Our automobiles became faster and more areodynamic.

Our music followed suite.

Becoming faster, more areodynamic and held a much deeper role in our lives.

The pace of everyday life became faster, far more stressful and definitely more confusing than any other time of man.

Divorces went from being “Taboo” to becoming disposable, quick escapes from marriages that often were rushed into.

“Peace” became a “movement” and a cause to promote.

“Wars” also became a “movement” and a cause to “protest”.

Fifty years later and both “Peace” and “War” have not changed. In all actuality, both have increased.

These are but a few of the points that have led to my answer for this prompt.

The best advice I believe someone younger than myself could learn from me would be …

“SEEK KNOWLEDGE”.

I do not mean the learned knowledge taught in our academia, but also “Life lessons”.

Those tidbits of intellectual information that we learn subliminally and that most of us file away in our subconscious as “useless information”.

Those of us who easily dismiss these moments are robbing ourselves of understanding the five “W’s”.

The “Who, What, Where, When and Why” questions we should seek the answers of regardless of whether we believe them to be of importance or not.

Why?

Because we learn more from dismissed information than we could ever learn from taught education.

Never pass on an opportunity to “learn”.

Question all aspects of your life.

Question all aspects of your environment.

Question all aspects of the world around you.

Most importantly, remember the answers concluded from your questionings.

Our brain is much like a vacuum cleaner.

It will suck up all the knowledge in it’s midst.

Train yourself to not file such knowledge away as “useless information”.

Train yourself to retain that which you have learned.

The age old saying, “Knowledge is power” is not wrong.

Do not allow yourself to readily accept all and everything as “The Norm”.

What is normal to one may be abnormal to others.

Always keep in mind that there is no such thing as useless knowledge.

Stupid is what stupid has forgotten.

Do not be “stupid”.

Update On My Health

Here’s an update on my health.

It hasn’t been that great as late.

As the Osteoporosis eats my vertebra it is compounding and creating new “Compression Fractures”.

I now have eight. Five in my lumbar section and three in the ‘T’ section. All in a row.

To give you an idea how severe it is, so far I have went from being ‘five foot nine’ inches tall to, now, ‘five foot six’ inches short.

Three inches is quite an amount of vertebrae to lose.

These fractures are what is making my life one of constant pain.

The Cauda Equina bundle of nerves controls most everything below your nipples.

EVERYTHING!

Walking, sitting, standing, bodily functions, everything!

My problem is the increasing amount of pain.

My various doctors and surgeons are telling me that soon I will be unable to walk.

To be truthful …

But …

No matter how severe the pain, I force myself to walk my girls twice or more a day.

Four kilometers each walk.

Then I sit on my couch and cry.

I fall into this mood and situation four or five times a year.

Mostly because I know that another surgery is near.

Facing the reality of my reality helps greatly.

After all …

I am a “Realist” by religion.

So, Campers and Camperettes, bear with me till I am done all the coming medical tests and consultations.

And yet more trials and tribulations.

I still see ‘Light’ in this ‘Darkness’

Darkness I call ‘Life’.

They say I am tough, but yet, I feel so rough.

This mask I wear has gotten me where?

Like the clock shows,

I have experienced many things.

Yet, in sorrow I have walked my many roads.

For the life I have lived was mostly alone.

“I am, therefore I think.”

I have experienced pain and I have witnessed ‘their’ sorrow.

I hope that they can forgive me on the ‘morrow.

For always in my heart I hold this sorrow.

Perhaps I should have been born in a swamp.

For an outlaw life seems what I want.

I have buried my Mother and 98 friends.

I wake each morning wondering,

“WHEN?”

Appointment at Princess Margaret Cancer Center went fairly well.

My appointment, last Thursday morning, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre went as well as to be expected.

I will be 69 years old on October 5th.

That said …

What I have put this body through, all the additional medical issues and traumas, most people could not survive.

In the past seven years, I have been legally dead, resuscitated and put on life support 13 times.

Yet, here I am the humbled man I have become.

I have no doubt whatsoever that I am alive today due to the stellar care, professionalism and gifted staff of

“The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre”

and

“The University Health Network”.

My Stroke Team are concerned that my mini-strokes have been increasing.

Very concerned!

They will be doing to my brain scans and MRI’s monthly now, instead of every three months.

Which means that in the near future I will be going through a battery of brain and spinal scans and a full body angiogram.

I am so Blessed to have such excellent healthcare from some of the world’s greatest surgeons and doctors.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the top cancer research and treatment center in the world.

Toronto’s University Health Network is rated Number Two in the world

My brain surgeon at UHN’s “Toronto Western Hospital” is the best in his field.

Actually there’s not much to tell you that we didn’t already know or was expecting.

Her covert activities south of the border are quite concerning.

This is not the first time she has taken it upon herself to interfere in matters that should be conducted by the Federal government and not by her.

Smith is the only Premier who is siding with the States and being traitorous to her fellow countrymen!

Smith was not a participant in the collapsed trade negotiations. Thankfully so. or she would have been sitting on the American side of the table!

Now she has taken it upon herself to travel to the U.S. with claims of speaking directly with lawmakers and business leaders to build relationships.

The big question there being relationships with who and for whose benefit.

Let’s not forget that on, January 12th, and 13th, 2025 she went to Mar-a-lago supposedly to discuss trade and advocate against tariffs on our energy exports.

The same weekend she claimed to be “on vacation”

(At Mar-a-lago, no less)

The same weekend all the other premiers and the Prime Minister met to discuss Trump’s tariffs.

Smith did participate “virtually”.

However, she was the only premier who declined to sign the joint …

“Statement of Unity”.

“UNITY” of all levels of our government standing as one nation for the common good of the taxpayers they all represent!

Her emphasizing to our Prime Minister and her twelve fellow Premiers that it would damage the economic ties between “Alberta” and the United States.

Not “Canada’s” ties – “Alberta’s”!!!

Further going so far as arguing that …

“Canada cannot win a trade conflict through economic threats or brute force”.

Saying this to reporters and American politicians!!!

Making it appear to the Trump administration that Canada will lose the war against it’s economy and sovereignty!!!

The same weekend that …

While on her alleged “vacation”, she actually met with President Trump, Jordan Peterson and her fellow traitor, Kevin O’Leary.

She outright lied about the trip being a vacation!

If it were a vacation then why did the two day trip cost we taxpayers $10,101.87?

I’m not quite sure regarding who is responsible for our natural resources.

Whether it’s the Provincial or the Federal government that holds the main authority to deal with them.

As far as I am concerned Canada’s natural resources belong to all Canadians and therefore should be governed by the Federal government.

We should ensure that both, Provincial and Federal governments equally share the responsibility and control of the logistics, sales and distribution of our natural resources.

Does the oil belong solely to Alberta or is it a “Canadian Natural Resource” and thereby belongs to all Canadians?

I believe that the RCMP and CSIS need to investigate Smith extremely deeply and thoroughly.

To see exactly what she is doing behind not only the Prime Minister’s back, or the backs of the other 12 Premiers but also the back of every Canadian.

I believe that with her alliances to the Trump Administration may warrant further investigation.

Her clandestine involvement with the sudden surge in all this “Separation” rhetoric raises massive questions about her loyalties and intentions.

Yes, there has always been a small fraction of Canadians who want to turn traitor and divide our great nation.

There always will be factions of separatists in any democratic country.

One of the beauty’s of living in a democracy is the right to have an opinion.

However, to sign a petition that calls for the division of your homeland is TREASON!

Every signature on the Referendum Petition is that of a traitor!

If you pay attention to social media and people like Danielle Smith and/or Pierre “PolyBear” Poilierve you will see that the talk of “leaving” Canada grew very fast and far more intense at the same time as Trump took office.

At the same time the United States put the tariffs in place.

On social media sites their rants and outright lies about our beautiful nation make it easy to find out that the majority of them are not even Canadians or even here in Canada or if they are here they are claiming to be patriotic Canadians.

Whether or not Canada should tariff oil, natural gas or electricity should not be solely up to one provincial Premier.

The intensity of such a decision dictates that it should be jointly discussed and agreed upon by our 13 Provincial Premiers and with the man we elected to lead our nation!

The final decision should be the result of those discussions and that of our Federal Leader, the Honourable Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Not that of a narcissistic Albertan Premier who is going behind the backs of her fellow Canadian politicians to visit the attackers of our economy and sovereignty.

Danielle Smith is not the leader of Canada and our Federal government needs to reign her traitorous self in and put her in her proper place in the political landscape!

JD Vance is the poster boy for the Trump Cartel's lack of political correctness and common sense intelligence!

Last night, he made a fool of himself, once again, by standing at a podium and making rude comments regarding Canada's sovereignty and then attempting to say it was a "Freudian slip".

However, the Chelsea Cat-like immature snickers and chuckles spoke volumes about his lack of political correctness and respect.

Once again calling our beautiful nation, "a state".

We were the United States closest ally, trading partnership and, definitely, friend for the 159 years Canada has existed.

We no longer are!

We are a proud people who are standing as one to defend our sovereignty, economy and national pride.

Canadians do not abide well with insults, economic attacks and threats from anyone. Especially not from a 'best friend' that backstabbed us, twisted the knife and then backstabbed us again!

Why is it that when any of the MAGA Camp gets confronted or called out about their actions they cannot discuss it properly, but instead respond with false facts, outright lies and aggression?

Do they not realize how foolish and political immature they have become?

Canada's previous roles of being peacekeepers, our treating other countries with common decency they deserve has and hopefully always will have garnered us the respect of the world.

We will NEVER be anything but "Canada".

A proud sovereign, unified nation.

There is a reason the world recognizes us as an overly polite, respectful and well liked people.

Because we are!

But we are also a brave, strong people who do not take lightly to a schoolyard bully's attempt to intimidate us into submission to their whims.

“I think I was still digesting the diagnosis. For a long time I knew I wasn’t well”

The day I got diagnosed with “SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA” and “OROPHARYNGEAL CANCERS”.

Eight years later and I still haven’t gotten to “Bang the Gong” at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Yet, I am alive and living at home and not Princess Margaret Hospital.

In 2022 I spent 22 weeks in there and many weeks off and on since.

Missing a few parts, kind of beat up, but still the same annoying me.

And all because I live in the greatest city in the world with the greatest of free healthcare.

The greatest reason I am still alive after 13 times on life support and numerous surgeries,

is beyond all doubt,

Due to the wonderful staff of the

“PRINCESS MARGARET CANCER CENTRE” and the “UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK”.

The wonders they have done in keeping me alive cannot be put into words.
I am eternally grateful and Blessed!

It has taken me 69 years to appreciate the life I was given.

Each day is bright and shining new,

Even when the skies are dark and gray.

A Cancer Warrior I shall stay.

I’ll live my life, my unique way.

There shall be no Death and Sorrow

Not today nor tomorrow.

Daily Prompt : "If you could relive one day from your past, which day would it be and why?" August 21, 2026

“My beautiful Mother, Mary Verner.”

Campers, If I could relive one day from my past it would it be the last day I spent with my beautiful Mother.

Warning, what I am about to tell you is a bittersweet tragedy and a reflection of one of the many tragedies that my life has been plagued with.

As many of you may already know from my bio or my autobiography, from the age of six months till my tenth birthday I lived in 32 foster homes and institutions.

My Mother was forced to flee from our home in Saint John, New Brunswick to Toronto, Ontario in order to escape from the abusive relationship her marriage to my Father had become.

She escaped taking my elder sister and brother with her.

Due to my age she thought it was best to leave me behind in the care of my Father.

Dad was only 19 years old and quickly learned that he could not take proper care of me.

He claims he had no choice but to give the Catholic Children’s Aid custody of Hence the 32 foster homes.

This is the lead-in for my answering the prompt.

Long story short, I would never meet my Mother until I was released on parole from Dorchester Maximum Security Penitentiary to live in Toronto.

I was 22 years old.

I found my Brother and Sister and against their wishes I found Mom.

Over the next year and a half we grew extremely close and I was very happy to finally have her in my life.

Like the usual pattern of my life that happiness and joy would end tragically.

Mom attended my marriage to my first wife, Michelle, and spent the first week of my honeymoon with us.

Mom left Michelle and I’s place wearing the biggest smile you could imagine.

Mom had recently left an abusive relationship with a bad alcoholic by the name of Robert George Stephenson.

I must add that he was “a real piece of work”!

I could not be around him.

It was I who convinced Mom to get away from the relationship.

A choice that haunts my very soul everyday since.

Mom stepped out of the taxi she road from my place and pulled out her keys to unlock the door to her tiny little home on Baseball Place here in Toronto.

She found her door was already unlocked but paid no mind as her brother, my Uncle Junior, had been staying with her.

She entered her home expecting to see Uncle Junior only to find Stephenson standing before her.

He was holding a boning knife. The sharpest knife in a butcher’s collection.

Without uttering a single word he lashed out and opened my Mother’s abdomen like a pinata.

Her bowels spilling out onto her livingroom floor.

He then called the police.

The wonderful doctors at St. Micheal’s Trauma Centre managed to keep Mom alive for two weeks.

This allowed me to say “Good-bye”.

Mom ascended on August 1, 1981.

Hopefully to a better place than this!

My marriage fell apart.

My mind fell apart.

My life fell apart.

I would spend the next ten years drinking heavy and doing Heroin.

Meeting my second wife, Jennifer, saved and sobered me.

Jennifer and I would spend the next 42 years together.

So,

If I could relive one day from my life it would be July 13, 1981.The last day Mom spent with me.

The day she left my apartment wearing that wonderful and biggest smile you could imagine.

I still see that smile when I think of that day. (Which is all the time.)

Mom’s last words to me on the day she passed were,

“Danny, promise me that you will not go after the goof and end up back in prison.”

I promised, literally on her deathbed, that as hard as it would be I would not go after him.

Living the lifestyle that I lived most my life made keeping that promise difficult.

Especially when the Courts sentenced him to a measly five years.

I struggled.

I still struggle.

I always will!

That day and that smile is what keeps me going.

I would love to go back to that day and see Mom’s smile in real life one more time.

I will have to wait until I ascend to my personal Valhalla to see it again.

I strongly believe that we should be severing all political ties with Israel until they answer for their numerous, numerous, numerous crimes against humanity at the Hague in front of the ICC and ICJ.

The crimes Israel has, is and will continue to commit go against every Canadian moral!

We should not be supporting Israel in any manner and I strongly believe that the ISRAELI DEFENCE FORCES should be added to our list of Terrorist Organizations.

What they have done in Gaza and Lebanon, with the backing and financing of the United States, are definitely crimes against humanity.

The ethnic cleansing taking place definitely defines them as “Terrorists”.

I am disgusted how our government and also the governments of all the free world has done little to protect and assist the Palestinians.

I Am Not Usually A Doomsayer

Most days I am not a doomsayer, however, lately I have little faith in the stability of the world at this point of humanity.

Having chosen to live the lifestyle I chose to live, Blessed me with experiencing events few others are capable of understanding.

Additionally they Blessed me with an understanding of my fellow mankind that most lock away in their subconscious minds so that they do not have to deal with the changes taking place amongst and around them.

The majority of which were of average daily interactions.

Others fueled by decades of wrongdoings

In my 69 years I watched the world progress through the decades from the Sixties to present day.

Perhaps my saying “progress” is incorrect. Yes, technology progressed. As did most aspects of everyday life.

Did we as a people progress or did we digress?

I dare to say that society has digressed.

Albert Einstein once stated that there would come a time when mankind would be capable of manufacturing a working technology that although we could produce it, we would not be capable of understanding why it worked.

Look around.

Einstein was correct.

We are now using Artificial Intelligence that is creating more problems than good.

The way we rushed into using A.I.while it is still in it’s infancy is one of the most reckless acts mankind could ever have done!

Look at the turmoil it has already caused around the world.

The average person no longer knows what is real and what is A.I.

This has created tensions in not only everyday life but also in the political landscape.

It has opened the floodgates of political interference in governments worldwide.

Which is growing substantially and undermining global peace and world order.

A.I. is not the first great mistake we have allowed. Not by a long shot.

“Social Media” was one of the first great mistakes of modern society.

It was allowed to go public before the public was capable of understand or controlling it.

We are using it anyway!

I am using it right now!

It has destroyed families, persons, education.

Damaging the very core of our youths perceptions of life in general. Literary stealing away their youth!

Decades after the birth of Social Media we are just now understanding the damage it has created.

Now we are making feeble attempts to police the beast and undo the destruction it has caused. Not only to our youth, but to people of all ages.

Sadly, hindsight is twenty twenty.

It’s addictive properties have led to millions of people, worldwide, glued to the screens of their electronic devices.

Not just glued but has seized control of how we conduct our daily lives.

Next we have ‘automobiles’.

What a scary thing the simple car has become!

Previously the greatest worry of being in a car was the loose nut on the steering wheel.

Take this for instance …

The greatest accomplishment a student driver could accomplish was learning how to “parallel park” and second with “learning how to check the blind spot” before merging or changing lanes.

Now we have cars that drive themselves’.

Not too well may I add.

Cars are equipped with that technology Einstein warned us about.

A gazillion cameras and sensors have created drivers obtaining licenses they should not have.

There is no need for me to list the numerous flaws in the modern vehicles. We see that on the evening news constantly.

My personal pet peeve regarding cars is,

“Why do we manufacture automobiles that can go four or more times than the speed limits of most countries?”

Seriously, where are we allowed to drive 150 or 200 or even faster miles per hour?

Yet, we keep building them to go faster and faster.

Then we are all ‘shocked’ when there is terrific accidents.

Imagine how little oil the world would consume if we were to manufacture automobiles that operated as cars and not rockets on wheels!

On top of our misuse of technology we have also become desensitized to the realities of what we have created.

With the current state of global affairs, especially with the United States government and their alliance with Israel purposely leading us into a world war, I see complete destruction of society as we know it on the horizon.

I pray that I am wrong regarding the state of world affairs, very wrong!

However, I fear that I am right.

Society has become blind to the horrors of our society.

Prime examples of what I am saying is best described by our silence, lack of action and inadvertent complicity to what Israel and the States are doing to the Palestinian people.

(And, yes, they definitely are ‘PEOPLE’. Regardless that the Israelis and the States are saying otherwise!)

Look at Gaza!

Look at the West Bank!

Look at Lebanon!

To be fair it is not only Israel and the United States.

Look at the Russian invasion of The Ukraine!

Look at China, North Korea, the Sudan, Syria and Africa!

Basically, look around!!!

WE SHOULD RETHINK HOW MUCH OIL GOES OWN THE PIPELINE TO TEXAS!

WITH WHAT THE STATES HAVE DONE TO THE OIL ECONOMY WORLDWIDE PERHAPS WE SHOULD STOP SELLING OURS AND MAKE SURE CANADIANS ARE WELL SUPPLIED!

WE SHOULD DO THE SAME WITH OUR POTASH THAT THEIR FARMERS DESPERATELY NEED TO FERTILIZE THEIR CROPS.

OUR RARE MINERALS SHOULD BE TOTALLY OFF LIMITS!

WE SHOULD BE MATCHING TARIFF FOR TARIFF!

THE GOOD THING ABOUT BEING CANADIAN IS THAT WE HAVE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF NATURAL RESOURCES THAT MOST COUNTRIES WILL HAPPILY LINE UP TO PURCHASE.

IF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE SIMPLY GOING TO ALLOW THEIR RABID DOG TO ATTEMPT TO INTIMIDATE US, THEN WE NEED TO PUT OUR ELBOWS UP!!!
