To make my iPad more safe and even more cute I ordered a custom skin with one of my vector illustrations at GelaSkins. This is back-only version of the protective skin with matching screen wallpaper. Love it! :)

I Have iPad Now!

I finally got an iPad after months of waiting! :) It is rather special for me as when I was a child and had troubles falling asleep I would imagine a little TV that I could hide under my blanket and watch all night :) I don’t watch TV any more, but iPad is even better with all the Internet, books, sketchpad, photos and much more, that I can now hide under my pillow ;)

Here it is, Oksancia’s iPad:

I really love the sleek design, wonderful screen and fast response of this device.

I was of course very interested in iPad apps for artists and tried out Sketchbook Pro on iPad.

Already made this little finger painting of Piggy:

Great fun!

As I’m still waiting for some iPad accessories,I came up with a temporary do-it-yourself stand for my iPad using a cardboard box from Cup-a-soup 10x package. It’s a bit crazy, but totally works (I hope it survives a week or two though).

Here is a little tutorial on how to make one for your iPad:

Quick and fun! :) You can use other cardboard boxes for your stands, but don’t forget to put something heavy inside, so that it is steady.

Happy Cards – Art Postcard Sets

Bits of news: I started a new series of postcards on Etsy: Happy Cards. They feature a selection of prints with my digital illustrations. Currently there are 3 sets of postcards: Hair Ladies, Happy Cards Set 1 and Happy Cards Set 2. Check them out! Really hope you like them! :)

Art Cards

Each set contais 3 or 4 cards printed on sturdy glossy paper and 3 or 4 envelops decorated with my illustration stickers :) Great as postcards, but alos cool as gifts or little framed prints.

Glad to announce that a set of “Hair Ladies” have already been sold on Etsy, which marks my first sale! Yay! :D

Painting: Thrifty Squirrel

Here I am again with my new acrylic painting “Thrifty Squirrel” :) Last week I had to take some time off my computer to get dirty with my acrylics :) This is what came out of it!

I’m officially starting up my little Kid’s Room Art Collection which will be a way of working with live paint and drawing techniques while creating some fun and cute characters and places… Love to do that! I decided that my first artwork in this collection is Little Sheep and the second is this sweet squirrel, getting ready for winter.

Working a Lot…

I’ve been working a lot for the last couple of month. Got a pretty big project, which I’m totally excited about, but it is still not the time to share it here… Oh, the waiting… Meanwhile I’m drawing a lot on my Cintique and looking through the piles of reference material :) Really love the process…

As I’ve been away from my blog for a while – sorry for that – I feel the need to share some sweet things with you all. Here are a couple of vectors I created lately while trying to keep my iStock portfolio up and running.

Project: Flyers and Poster Illustration and Design for Remote Sensing Symposium

I finally have a chance to share this freelance project I did last winter for Delft Institute of Earth Observation and Space Systems (DEOS) at Delft University (the Netherlands). The task was to create a logo-illustration for the Remote Sensing Symposium the Institute organized in May and incorporate it in flyers and symposium poster design.

The Illustration had to describe four ways of remote sensing the Earth: underwater, terrestrial, airborne and space research devices. To illustrate the client’s idea I came up with the design that incorporates four “research circles” and the Earth in the middle as the center of attention of this research.

The illustration and design were created as vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator CS4. The Symposium took place on May 19th and I received a very nice feedback from the client. It was a pleasure working with you, guys!

Save For Stocks Script – Updated

As there were some changes in vector illustration submission requirements on Shutterstock, here you can find an updated “Save For Stocks” script for Adobe Illustrator, which saves all necessary file formats for you.

This script is an update for the original SaveForStock script. It is created to address new acceptance rules of Shutterstock.

This updated script saves one additional EPS, which is compatible with Adobe Illustrator 10.

Of course it keeps saving the current Ai document as EPS (Ai8) and two JPGs of sizes required on the most popular microstocks Istockphoto and Shutterstock. The new files appear in the
same folder.

To avoid confusion, the EPS file names include -Ai8 or -Ai10 at the end.

How to use:

1) Download the script for free in ZIP format and decompress it.

2) Copy SaveForStocks-10.js to the Scripts folder, which may vary but would be similar to:

on Mac: /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS#/Presets/Scripts

on PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS#\Presets\Scripts

3) Restart Illustrator.

4) Make sure that the current document is saved. New files will appear in the same folder.

5) Run the script from the Scripts menu (File > Scripts) of Illustrator.
