I'm all for the traditional ideas of goal-setting and identifying one's target audience. That seems to be something the current crop of Tweeter's often forgets.

But talking points are certainly behind the times. Instead we need to flip that idea on it's head and develop listening and response strategies. Now is the time to listen to our audience instead of just lecturing at them.

Thanks for sharing the post.

To clarify, the reason for the post wasn't to determine the ideal size of a social media campaign. That can and should vary from campaign to campaign depending on a laundry list of items - goals, objectives, resources, etc.

The question I'm raising is whether or not brands should approach their social media efforts - regardless of size - with a "pilot program" mindset. Is there a need for long-term commitment and allocating long-term budget and resources beyond a few months to help provide the best opportunity for success possible?

Thanks again for sharing.

If it were not for social media, I would be sitting on my bottom watching TV all day. I lost my job in April and with my knowledge of social media, video editing and marketing, I decided to help others and start my own business. Tech Czar is right...there is going to be a boom on new businesses from social media.

Pharma reached me today allright. But probably not the way they intended.

I went to a Dr today who told me he can barely use email and suggested that i need to have faith in drs. My response: I'm here for science, not faith. He told me the drug he prescribed wouldn't interact with my other medication. I went home and looked up manufacturer's package insert, saw the side effects, saw that it was incompatible with something I already take, and tore up the prescription.

I'll discover blogs via Twitter, Pownce (where I saw this post), Blogrolls, blog comments, Google Readershare, recommended reading pages, etc. So to the extent that people share things--either through services or through their own blogs (I wrote a wee bit about such sharing methods last year)--I will add them to my growing list in Google Reader and/or bookmark them on del.icio.us.

If looking for a blog on a specific topic, I'll start with a regular search then try Google Blog Search, Technorati, StumbleUpon, del.icio.us, MyBlogLog, blogged.com and other such directories/recommendation services.

Yet whether I'm passively finding blogs or looking for something specific, both tactics rely on the recommendations of other readers to at least some extent.

George,
I have bumped into Kelly Spors on more than one occasion. She frequently writes about franchising, and usually succeeds in pissing me off.
I'll stick with rebecca.
