Fleten Memorial Servant&#8217;s Heart Award</strong> to honor our co-founder, friend and THE model of what it means to have a servant&#8217;s heart.  From his years of delivering Meals on Wheels to serving as the de facto hunter/gatherer for anyone in need of his unique ability to bring people together for a common cause, Gavin was a force of nature unlike any other.  Gavin was not driven toward service by any particular cause.  He derived his passion from his desire to connect with people and to foster a network of connections that went deeper than most of us could ever strive to achieve on our own.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>The Gavin A. Fleten Memorial Servant&#8217;s Heart Award will be awarded as a scholarship annually by the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation to recognize a graduating senior who demonstrates a Servant&#8217;s Heart based upon their exceptional efforts to better their school and their community.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The amount of the scholarship will be based upon funds raised.  <strong><em>Every $10,000 provides an annual $500 scholarship in perpetuity.</em></strong>  We hope in time to be able to both increase the value of the scholarship and to be able to recognize multiple recipients annually.   Today, however, our goal is to get to the first $10,000 so we can create a lasting legacy for our friend, Gavin, while recognizing future generations with a passion for service.</p>

Gavin who lived every day to the fullest, was kind and generous.  Gavin truly lived the example of a servant’s heart and a genuine friend. Gavin demonstrated his motto “to always do good, for the right reasons” at a level that few can compare.  For all who knew Gavin, they were touched by his friendly spirit and that Scottish accent! Gavin’s legacy is one of remarkable joy, kindness and generosity.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the morning of Monday, June 18, 2018, he called out for help to his neighbor above who immediately came in response.  Elizabeth called 9-1-1, maintained communication with Gavin and immediately messaged Gavin’s friend Cindy for help. Gavin knew he was not alone and help was on the way.  Great measures were expended until the ambulance arrived to try to save Gavin; it was too late.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A celebration of Gavin’s life is being planned and arrangements will be posted here.  In lieu of cards or flowers we will post charitable causes that Gavin supported so that you may make a donation in his honor.  </span></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SSL, or Secure Socket Layer, is a protocol for securing data transmitted via the Internet.  SSL can protect both you and your users when sensitive information is entered via a browser ( including your login info!).  Over the years, we have worked with literally 100s of businesses and in 2016 we have seen a huge increase in requests to clean up website hacks (not everybody hosts their site with us, unfortunately).</p>
<p>If your website visitors enter any sensitive information into your website (forms, eCommerce, etc.), or if you login via a browser to administer your site, you need an SSL certificate.  If your website uses a popular website software platform (ie &#8211; Joomla, WordPress, etc.), you need an SSL certificate.  Popular platforms tend to be targeted more by hackers because, well, there are more targets available.</p>
<p>Recently, Google has indicated that SSL encryption is now a ranking factor for its search engine.  The impact for smaller sites is minimal, but we suspect the importance will only increase as Google pushes for a faster, more secure Internet &#8211; and rewards those who jump on board.</p>
<p>So, in a word, does your website need an SSL Certificate?  Yes.  The costs are nominal (or free with our <a href="http://optimizedlocalsearch.com/hosting/">Managed WordPress Hosting</a>), so there is really no better method for protecting both your website and your visitors.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As a website designer for small businesses, part of our sales pitch is that we use WordPress.  And WordPress, with a bit of basic training, is conducive to DIY website updates.  With one exception &#8211; those danged Widgets.  No part of WordPress REQUIRES so much as a basic knowledge of HTML &#8211; except those danged Widgets.  Or do they?</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a look.</p>
<p>It is true that the WordPress Widgets do not include a visual editor &#8211; there are plugins that will do it, but they have mostly been problematic &#8211; but there is a simple workaround for the DIYer.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s go step by step.</p>
<p>Step 1: Go to APPEARANCE -&gt; WIDGETS and find the widget area that you want to edit.  Copy the code within the widget area.</p>
<p>Step 2: Go to Posts -&gt; New Posts and right-click to open the link in a new tab.  Once the new post editor opens in the new tab, make sure you are in TEXT mode (as opposed to VISUAL MODE).  Paste the code that you previously copied from the widget.</p>
<p>Step 3: Switch back to VISUAL MODE.  You should now see a visual representation of what was in the widget area.  Make the desired edits using the default WordPress post visual editor.  Keep in mind that typically widgets have a specific width limitation whether in a sidebar, footer, etc.  Adjust images accordingly.  Once your edits are complete, continue with Step 4.</p>
<p>Step 4: Switch to TEXT mode and copy the html code for the edits you just made.  Return to the other browser tab where the &#8220;old&#8221; widget code exists.  Remove the old code and paste the new code.  Click the big blue SAVE button and you&#8217;re good to go.  Review the relevant page with the relevant widget included to make sure it looks like you want it to look.</p>
<p>Congrats!  You&#8217;re now an HTML expert without having to know what HTML even stands for.</p>
