Jamie Jefferson asked:

Knowing ways to save money on gas can make a big difference in your monthly fuel bill, whether you are embarking on a long journey or just making a daily commute.

Top Tips for Gas Savings

Here are eight quick tips for saving money at the pump.

1. How fuel efficient is your car? Do some research to determine if you could save money in the long term by switching to a model that gets more miles to the gallon. It may also be possible for you to make your current vehicle more fuel efficient, and you may even be able to get tax credits for doing so. Talk to your accountant to find out more about your options.

2. Can you share a car? If you want to save money on gas without changing your car or your buying habits, see if you can give somebody else a ride to work in the mornings and split the cost. Talk to friends and colleagues to gauge interest in such an arrangement, or do a google search for car pools in your area.

3. Consider public transportation. So many opportunities exist for convenient public transportation. You may be able to get some work done en route, too (or, at the very least, some peace and quiet before and after your work day.)

4. Shop around for the best fuel prices. You might be surprised how much the price of gas can vary from pump to pump. A simple Internet search can help you locate the cheapest local options before you even leave your house.

5. Look after your tires. High resistance tires and under inflated tires make your driving less efficient. Also, make sure your air filter is clean. Driving with it dirty can reduce your fuel efficiency, too.

6. Be a loyal customer. Some gas stations will give you a loyalty discount if you buy from them regularly or join a loyalty club. Some credit cards will also give points or cash back for gas purchases.

7. Choose the right grade. Before you pay more, find out if your car’s engine was designed for premium gasoline. Experts say that the less expensive grades are fine for many vehicles. Consult your owner’s manual to see if your car needs the more expensive grade. If your owner’s manual doesn’t mention the recommended grade of gasoline, consult your mechanic or car dealer.

8. Watch your driving. When you accelerate suddenly, you burn more fuel than you would if you were driving at a consistent and comparatively low speed. Also, avoid idling as well as driving around looking for a closer parking spot when a short walk could get you where you want to go.

With the price of fuel on the rise and concerns about global warming leading to increased pressure on government to tax motorists, it has never been more important to know how to save money on gas.

In the long run, all you need to do is reassess your driving habits and take good care of your car, which is a wise move regardless of the price at the pump.

save money on gas

Gary Ruplinger asked:

Looking for ways to save money on gas that won’t require you to go out and spend more money just so you can save a few bucks at the pump.

If you have a perfectly good vehicle, then spending $25k on a new hybrid car just so you can save $10 when you fill up at the pump might not be such a good deal.

Also, if you’re not the type that wants to install any of those “gas saving” devices in your car, then this list is for you.

Whether or not you have any mechanical skills, you can use these no brainier methods to start saving money on gas right now - even if you don’t know how to change a tire.

1 - Get A Gas Card

Want a tip that will save you money every single time you fill up at the pump no matter what vehicle you drive? It’s a gas card. Just about every major gas station offers their own brand of gas credit card that will allow you to save 3-5% on all your gas purchases at their gas stations. Forget about the branded gas cards and get one that will save you 5% on gas no matter where you fill up, like the Discover Open Road Card. Just remember, pay it off every month or it won’t save you any money.

Saving 5% off every gallon of gas means that $3/gallon gas now costs only $2.85 and $4/gallon becomes $3.80. If you have a 25 gallon tank, you’d save $3.75 every time you filled up ($3/gallon gas).

A lot of people use a credit card when filling up at the pump anyway since it’s easy and convenient. You may as well get a gas card so it’s easy, convenient, and saving you money.

2 - Avoid Aggressive Driving

Hitting the gas hard when the light turns green and braking hard will make your car drink gas faster than a drunk at an open bar at a wedding. If you were to drive away from a stop at a more moderate pace, accelerate in traffic more slowly, and anticipate when you’re going to need to brake ahead of time so you can do so slowly, you’re going to save a lot of gas - up to 37% - about the same buying a hybrid car but this tip won’t cost you anything. (oh yeah, it’s safer too)

3 - Use Your Cruise Control

Personally, I won’t buy a car if it doesn’t have cruise control, since it means I don’t have to worry so much about keeping my speed constant. However, cruise control also had the added benefit of saving you gas too. On average, you’ll save about 7% more gas than if you don’t use cruise control.

4 - Slow Down

Sure, going fast can be fun. It can also get you a nice collection of speeding tickets, but more importantly, the faster you drive the more gas you use. I’m not saying that you need to drive like your grandmother, but slowing down from 75 to 65 can you 12% on you gas bill, and unless you’re driving across the country, the time difference in getting where you’re going will be minimal.

5 - Stop Idling

Having the car running when it’s not moving wastes gas.

I remember being taught when I was first learning to drive that you should let your car warm up for a few minutes before driving it anywhere when it’s cold outside. While that may be true for older cars, modern cars don’t need warm up time before being ready to drive. Don’t drive like a maniac (see #2) before you car is completely warmed up and you’ll be fine.

If you going to be sitting and waiting some place without moving for more than about a minute, turn off the engine. It probably goes without saying that if you can avoid rush hour traffic, you should.

Also, one great place to sit and waste gas is your local fast food drive-thru. Get off your lazy butt, get out of your car and go inside to get your food.

6 - Plan Ahead

Instead of driving to the gym, going home, driving to work, driving home, driving to the store, and then home again, start combining trips whenever possible. This is really easy to do if you just think ahead. Avoid just spontaneously hopping in the car and driving to the store to pick up some milk and eggs. Think about what else you can do if you’re going to be out running errands anyway so that you can avoid another trip later.

5 You got legs - use’em

Really want to save money on gas? Then use your legs. A lot of trips aren’t really that far, and while it takes a little longer to walk somewhere than to drive there, it’s a good chance to get outside, get some fresh air and get some exercise in the process. It’s really not necessary to drive absolutely everywhere unless you happen to live in the middle of nowhere. So get yourself a comfortable pair of tennis shoes and start walking instead of driving when you can.

Also, a bicycle is a nice compromise between the two, and can actually be faster to get some places than a car. I remember when I was in college and moved off campus - although we lived almost 2 miles from campus, it was a lot faster for me to take my bicycle to go to class than to take my car.

Caffeinated Content

John Kent asked:

Gasoline prices across the nation are sky rocketing to unbelievable prices. The prices have been raising due to the weakening dollar and after much speculation in world markets, these prices do not look be lowering anytime soon.

Ways to save money on Gas.

With the gasoline prices raising so rapidly, consumers are searching for ways to save money on gas. With a couple tips you can slash your gas prices.

Ways to save money on Gas.

Firstly running your car on a hydrogen system can save you over 50% of the money you are currently spending on gas. These systems are fairly easy to install and thousands of people have already started implementing this concept. With half water Half Gas, your car will not solely be depending on fuels, thus resulting in lower prices of gasoline.

Your car will also run longer distances, have a higher mileage, and emit less greenhouse gases. The best option by far.

However, here are some other ways to save money on gas.

1.)Keeping your car well maintained.

Keeping your tires inflated properly, is a simple lifesaver. Under inflated tires waste fuel. Also check alignment and balance regularly. As well with regular tune-ups, making sure your car is running properly is just one way to save money on gas.

2.)Clean out your trunk.

A weighed-down car uses much more fuel. For every 250 pounds your engine is hauling you lose one mile per gallon. So carry only emergency equipment, or things you absolutely need.

3.) Cut down on the Air Conditioner.

While driving don’t use your hair conditioner, this is a fuel burner! Turning off your air conditioner can cut your fuel costs by roughly 20%.

In summary, although these tips are a good idea. You still will not be saving as much as you’d like to at the pump.Half Water Half Gas is the best way to save money on gas.

Create a video blog…instantly.

Brad Martinson asked:

There is a lot of controversy and debate nowadays on what the most cost effective alternative fuels are. For those looking for alternatives, it is advisable to put your time and energy into the gas saving efforts that are proven and available.

People are talking about a lot of different options but there is not yet a consensus on what the most cost effective device is. However, it is still necessary in today’s economy to save as much money on fuel expenses as possible. With the ever rising gas prices, every trip to the pump is stressful but there are ways to reduce this expense.

Hypermilling is an incredibly effective solution and it does not cost much to incorporate nor does it mean changing too much in the way of your lifestyle. You will, however, need to change a few habits in order to maximize your gas saving potential. Getting your vehicle in pristine shape is the key.

You will be able to save money in gas without having to purchase another vehicle or buy various gadgets. There are also other advantages when you maintain your vehicle in top working condition. Your car will last longer, allowing you to avoid the expense of a new one for longer. You will also be less prone to accident.

First, ensure you are changing the oil as recommended, every 3,000 miles or three months. Changing your oil regularly will keep your engine running smoothly and will make your car more efficient. If you take it to a place that specializes in oil changes they will even remind you when it is time to change it again.

Check your tires using a tire gauge and ensure there is continually enough pressure in them. Having them at the exact recommended air pressure will allow your car to get better gas mileage and reduce the amount of times you will have to refuel. Check this regularly.

Just like you should get regular checkups from a doctor, so too should your car get regular check ups from a mechanic. A tune up is advised at least every year, sometimes more if you do a lot of driving and put wear and tear on the car. Don’t wait until something breaks.

When you get your oil changed, they will likely also inspect your fuel injectors, air filter and oxygen sensor. Though having these things in less than perfect shape will not stop it from running, it will increase the amount of fuel it takes to drive your car. Check them regularly and replace them as needed.

If you can, drive as much as you can on the highways to maintain a consistent speed and reduce the amount of stop and go traffic you run into. Driving at the speed limit consistently will help reduce the amount of fuel you go through and will also give the added bonus of keeping you safer.

Caffeinated Content

Loren Yadeski asked:

The ‘economic headwinds’ that have been hitting the country since last year have made gas prices soar to high limits. Everyone is affected by these rapid gas increases but more so numerous, if not all, business establishments. If you own a business, now is the right time to start saving on gas money. Below are the top two saving tips that are sure to stretch your business’ gas money.

Keep your cars in tip top shape

A car and its engine that is well maintained perform well and increases fuel efficiency. This generally entails lower gas consumption and better gas mileage. If your business owns a lot of cars, then you probably use the services of a regular mechanic shop. Have them regularly check car tires, air filters and gas caps.

Car tires not inflated to its proper air pressure level makes it hard for the engine to roll the car. The engine would need to work hard and eat up a lot of gas. So, ensuring that car tires are inflated to its proper air pressure level also ensures that you save on fuel consumption, usually from 5 to 10 percent.

The car’s engine needs to burn fuel with the help of oxygen, which comes through the air filter. If the air filter is clogged then not enough oxygen would go through which makes the car engine work harder on burning fuel. The engine would then require more gas. Air filters should be regularly checked and replaced if clogged.

Gas caps also deserve attention. Without gas caps, gas evaporates faster and you end up pumping for more gas. Immediately replace cracked and defective gas caps.

Use Gas Credit Cards

Using gas credit cards is one of the most popular and widely used gas savings tips. Gas credit cards offers rebates every time you fill up at the gas pump. Rebates offered are somewhere between 2% to 6%. This is only a small percentage but results to a very considerable amount if applied to your total annual business gas consumption. These rebates are in the form of reward points that accumulate over time. After every billing period, rewards points are redeemable usually in the form of cash backs. There are also other reward offerings such as gift certificates and airline tickets but for your business, cash back rewards are preferable. Some companies automatically redeem cash backs which are credited back to the card while others issue checks.

It will be a bright idea to issue gas cards for your delivery trucks and sales persons or to your other employees whose gas consumption is on your business’s tab. And to maximize your business savings on gas, pay the bill in full and on time to avoid paying for the interest.

Making sure your engine runs in tip top shape will ensure better gas mileage. With today’s prices, regular car engine check-up and parts replacements are a big help. While having your employees use gas credit cards stretches you business’s gas money.

Caffeinated Content
