The Flyers Wives Carnival must have been pretty awkward for some of the players today.

Sure, most of the fans are going to bubbly on the surface, happy to be face to face with some of their idols. Even those that would claim to be openly upset were probably more than happy to let it slide for the day. But you can also bet that some of them let the Flyers know that they aren’t happy with their play as of late, and rightfully so given the effort. I’m sure this wasn’t done in a disrespectful fashion or with great frequency – after all, Philly is known for it’s overall quaintness; but you just KNOW it was on the minds of some of the players and fans.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers have had a relatively timid history in recent memory, but tonight should prove to be a nice change of pace. The Leafs actually have something to play for as the season winds down, and they find themselves well within striking distance of this hot-or-not Flyers squad. With a similar style of play, offense has been the root of success for Toronto – so what will the Flyers have to do to get back into the ‘W’ column tonight?

Once again the Atlantic Division is dominating the playoff leaderboard as they occupy 4 of the top 6 slots. The only team left out in the mix is the New York Islanders. Surprisingly, this team has carried the play in all 3 games this year versus the Flyers. We keep passing them off as cellar dwellers, but at some point their young talent will click, right? My thinking after the jump…

Clear your schedules - the red hot Nashville Predators are in town. This Music City Miracle - winners of five in a row while sporting an impressive 11-2 record in the month of January - stands as a true test of playoff potential for the Flyers. Arguably one of the toughest remaining West coast match-ups on the schedule, the Preds have been one of the impressive work horses in the division that has become the toast of the NHL. It may look like they’re catching a break with the announcement of Lindback as the starting goalie for Nashville tonight, but he too should prove to be no small task for the Orange and Black (Of course the pun was intended).

After the jump, we’re getting our neighborhood watch on to see what it will take to tackle this relatively unknown bunch of Predators.

Fresh off one of the most exciting games the Flyers have played this season, this rookie-loaded squad with a hint of vets will take to the ice to face a Florida Panthers team that somehow still stands amongst the top of the Southeast Division, regardless of their 3-4-3 record in their last 10 games played. Even with Briere, JVR and Jagr out of the picture the Flyers have been playing pretty well as of late, and continuing that effort should be the team’s primary focus tonight.

What else will it take for the Flyers to come away with a victory tonight? More after the jump

Tonight, the Flyers head to Long Island to take on a team they’ve been dominating since Nassau Coliseum was a relevant piece of architecture in the sporting world, or so it would seem. Philly - 3-1 in their last four games – looks to continue its Long Island lockdown as they prepare for an opponent that has yielded victory in 22 of the last 23 tries. Are the kids ready for another Trial on the Isle? Let’s talk about it after the jump

Even though the weekend’s festivities may have ended with a rather somber come-from-behind victory for the New York Rangers, both the city of Philadelphia and the Flyers organization should look back on this weekend with a sense of immense pride. Since the weekend has come and gone and we’ve all had a chance to digest, its time to look back and dissect this classic weekend for the sport of hockey.

A great moment for too many reasons
