I've spent the last 2 days driving around town with my camera trying to capture the hearts of all the locals and tourists who's lives have been forever changed by the passing of Michael Jackson.

Aside from his trials and tribulations (and different faces throughout the years), his legacy will be one not easily forgotten, nor easily out done. We all loved Michael for who he was. For how his music and talent made us feel. Not for the man he became in recent years. He's a man who leaves much to the imagination, yet who's music stood the test of time, and will continue to influence others for years to come.

I grew up listening to my mom's Thriller record. You could always find Michael or Bon Jovi on a constant rotation in my room and throughout the rest of the house.

A piece of my childhood died on thursday when he did.

Rest in Peace Michael. You deserve it.

I still haven't figured out what direction I would like this blog to go in. I have my personal blog over at LiveJournal.com. I intentionally created this one to showcase my photography as well as my favorite artwork, music, fashion.. and above all, my personal opinions. But now I'm a bit indecisive as to what content I'd like this to contain.

Please bear with me as I go through this puberty stage, if you will, and try to come to some conclusions.

Recently I've been watching my friend Corie post her 365 day photos on Flickr. She uses a lot of creativity, as if each one tells a story. Suddenly inspired, I decided to do the same.

Since getting my first DSLR last year, I've really been itching to better my photography. When I met my boyfriend back in October, it happened to be a hobby we both shared. Ever since Christmas in 4th grade when I got my first (hot pink I might add) 110mm camera, I've been snapping away. Boxes of photos reside under my bed (amongst books of CD's, a flute, a piccolo, and sometimes my cat). It's an interest I've had almost my entire life.

Unfortunately due to finances, I was a little late to the "digital" game. But who are we kidding, film always looks better... Though most would argue that digital is just more fun to play around with. I am one of those people.

Slowly but surely, I am adding to my equipment. My next purchase will be a 50mm lens. I love the look of a shallow depth of field.

Attempt to #crashTED was an epic #Fail

Last night fellow Long Beach twitterer's decided to embark on an evening of TED crashing debauchery. Unfortunately there wasn't much debauchery, and very little crashing was involved.

We began our night at the Dubliner in downtown Long Beach with @nsputnik and @theagent. We shared a round discussing current and past employment, the housing market, and the art scene in and around Long Beach. Once @daNanner, @missmotormouth, @DigSomeMore, @agentjon, @niecee, @jpdefillippo, and @Fogarty arrived, we got word that 18 #TED people were at Rock Bottom Brewery. Upon heading in that direction we realized that the TED Block Party was going on and we needed to be a part of it.

In an attempt to sneak in, we @ replied @kevinrose to somehow get us in. But our attempts went unnoticed and we decided to go with our original idea to grab another round of drinks at Rock Bottom Brewery instead. It was twitter talk at it's best. Attempting to get our hashtag #crashTED to be the #1 trend on Twitter search. Lots of fellow Long Beach tweeple toyed with the idea of joining us, but our #crashTED seemed like a lost cause.

All in all, it turned out to be a pretty fantastic night catching up with old friends and making new ones. Seems like most everyone is up for Round 2 tonight. I can't make it, but I wish them more success than last night.

Yes we can!

President Barack Obama

...And yes we did! Today marks the day that President Barack Obama officially took office. There is such an enormous feeling of hope in the air. Such an overwhelming feeling of change.

As I sat and watched the Inauguration live on CNN.com with Facebook, it was hard not to tear up. The Inaugural address to which Obama gave was one of the most moving speeches I've ever heard.

"For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate."

This paragraph held so much meaning to me. The government can't be the only one making change, it also relies on the American people.

"A parents willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate." That line stood out above all the rest. That simple act could change the shape of our country entirely. Poverty, violence, theft, crime... All of that could be lessened by simply acting upon that one sentence.

All in all, this day is something that I will remember forever. Most likely a day I'll tell my grandkids about. I only hope that all these promises can really make a change for this country and truly bring us back to a democratic nation.

"Government of the people, by the people, for the people."

Southern CA Wildfires

The fires this past weekend in Southern CA were pretty dreadful. I think at one point there were 7 major fires burning at once. While I was stuck inside on Saturday with the AC on, I stepped out on the balcony to take some pictures of the smoke (all which have been unedited). These were taken sometime around 3pm on Saturday the 15th. The way the smoke just sat above everything was really neat. Most of these were shot looking west towards the ocean, or south/southeast in the direction of the Corona fire.

Tonight, in the streets of my neighborhood, there will be a peacefull protest for NO on Prop 8. This makes me really excited and bummed out at the same time. Excited because this is a proposition I am passionately against and I'm glad to see my community get together and fight this act of discrimination. I'm left bummed about it because I have dinner plans in Santa Monica tonight and I can not attend.

I would love to get out there and capture these moments with my camera.

How is it that we can elect an african american president (yes, I did vote for Obama), yet still not allow homosexuals the human right to marry? I am less than thrilled with the outcome of Prop 8, and honestly disgusted. This wasn't about "gay marriages" being taught in school. This wasn't about "gays" suing your church. This was about keeping a law in effect that allows homosexuals the same rights as heterosexuals, the same rights as humans. The right to marry the one you love.

How brainwashed has the church system made this country? Being homosexual isn't their choice. The science is all there. All I keep hearing is "Marriage is the word of god. It's a sacred religious ceremony." I call bullshit. If it's such a powerful "word," then why is the divorce rate over 50%? Maybe they should check the sacredness of this said "word" and think of a new excuse. I doubt that half the hetero couples that get married are religious anyway. If anything, homosexuals are less likely to take this "word" for granted seeing as it's something they haven't had the freedom of doing until last May. But now that freedom has been revoked. This proposition is threatening to amend the constitution and state that marriage is only allowed between a man and a woman.

It's selfishness, ignorance, and blatant discrimination.

I find it hard to believe that this is "gods will."
