The chapter is dedicated to providing the most timely, interesting and informative CPE for CPAs through a variety of interest groups and special events.

Each year, one of our officers takes the helm of the OC Fall Seminar Series and selects the best and brightest speakers to deliver the most crucial tax and non-technical information for CPAs. We also combine the seven, Tuesday night classes with some wonderful networking events prior to class. The result is a more human experience that is far more enjoyable than online classes.

Last year’s 25th Annual Fall Seminar Series was a huge success and raised more than $19,000 for our chapter scholarship fund.

We hope you will join us in this year and find out why more than 100 CPAs in our chapter count on the Fall Seminar Series each year for 21 hours of CPE!

Next month we will report on the outcome of our largest yearly event, the 13th Annual OC Economic Forecast Event, with Dr. Esmael Adibi. Please check our chapter webpage regularly for event updates.

The chapter has seen a lot of growth and change these past months, thanks in large part to our dedicated directors, interest group chairs, Scholarship Committee members—and two accounting students from Cal State Fullerton who are passionate about our chapter.

Anthony Kress, president of Beta Alpha Psi, and Steve Tsolakis, past president of the club, have spent many hours recruiting accounting students from CSUF for our chapter’s young and emerging professionals events, and urging them to take advantage of CalCPA’s free student membership.

The result has been impressive event attendance and a marked increase in student members.

In 2011 our YEPs networked at Kimera in Irvine; sailed the Pacific aboard the historic sailing yacht, The Curlew, off Dana Point; and networked some more at The Winery in Tustin. In 2012, the group hopes to do some kayaking, hold bonfires at the beach, perhaps some bowling and of course network at the best Orange County hotspots.

We would love to hear your ideas for fun YEP events and invite you to send them to chapter program associate Nancy Wilson.

The chapter’s 25th Annual Fall Seminar Series, which ended Nov. 8, was a big success, raising more than $16,000 for the chapter’s scholarship fund.

If you haven’t attended the series yet, plan on it next year! The series starts in September each year and meets 6–9 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays (except for those weeks with tax deadlines). It is a convenient, inexpensive way to earn 21 CPE credits and get the most up-to-date tax updates available. Plus, we always try to have a cocktail reception or two prior to class.

Special thanks to this year’s sponsors: Century Group; NPC; Thomson Reuters; Tredway Lumsdane & Doyle; and Wealth Management Network.
