During the Spring/Summer 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week season I teamed up with The Mandarin Oriental to do a tweet up in their Bing Lounge! This season I am thrilled that they asked me to host another tweet up for all my guys and gals on Valentine's Day!

OJ&B Remembers Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston once sang in her 1995 hit single from the movie, Waiting to Exhale, "Life never tells us the when's or why's." This saying has special meaning today as millions of people around the world mourn the death of a woman who had one of the most legendary, iconic and defining voices in American music history.

In 1983, legendary music producer, Clive Davis discovered her in a New York nightclub and signed her on the spot. According to CNN, Houston sold over 170 million Albums, singles and videos over the span of her career. She truly had a voice that cannot be matched by any other artist.

I remember being a little kid and always belting at the top of my lungs her mega hit single "I Will Always Love You," probably daily, and when I was in elementary school I asked for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack as a gift. I have alway been obsessed with people who can actaully sing. These days they seem to let anyone with a pretty face have a record deal but in the age of Whitney, you had to sing for your life (and be epic at it) or you were shunned from the music world.

The worst thing that could happen for any singer was when Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem at the 1991 Superbowl. Her rendition became the gold standard of which every singer after her who sings the anthem seems to be compared to. You often still hear, "They was good but it wasn't like Whitney."

OJ&B wants to thank Houston for giving all of us the gift of her voice. I feel the best way to honor her is simply to post a few of my fave Whitney songs.

OJ&B And Chi City Fashion Host Tweet Up At GLSEN Lounge Presented By ELLE Magazine!

Last season I had the honor of hosting a tweet up at the It Gets Better Lounge hosted by Rue La La and Elle Magazine! It was so much fun and I got to meet so many awesome people!

This season I am thrilled to announce that I am hosting another hour long Tweet up with Elle Magazine at the GLSEN Lounge! I will be hosting the tweet up with my fashion week BFF Jena Gambaccini of Chi City Fashion on Sunday, February 12th from 1:30 to 2:30pm at the Empire Hotel!

Robert Graham Fall 2012 Presentation: Colors Fit For Royalty!

Anyone who knows me or follows me on social media knows that I live for color! I always try to stay away from boring clothes and often that is a hard thing to do with menswear. I am so glad that I was invited to Robert Graham's Fall 2012 preview at the Jimmy at the James Hotel where I quickly discovered that the brand also hates boring menswear and loves lots of color too!

Robert Graham's Fall 2012 is inspired by the magnificence and beauty of royal palaces around the world. Inspired by stained glass windows, the palette is rich with indigos, deep greens and chocolate browns that are paired with royal bursts of blues, violets and other jewel-tone hues. Materials used throughout the collection give nod to their royal inspiration. Velvet, cashmere, twill and herringbone fabrics are paired with traditional Robert Graham trims and paisley prints.

I am obsessed with this double breasted cobalt blue trench coat! I need slash want it for fashion week asap!

For those who are new to color, bold combinations like the one above can be a scary thing but don't be scared! All of these pieces can work great separately. Pair them with neutral colors and they will give you a burst of brightness! Who says that you have to be dark and grey for fall/winter?

I Loved the fact that the above look is simple yet the bold colors make it unique and eye catching! You can wear this jacket with so many things and I am living for the pea green suede shoes!

These gorgeous blazers had me at hello! These are the kind of pieces that will make everyone turn and notice you when you walk in the room. You can make them casual, as seen here, or you can dress them up with the right pant and a fun Robert Graham bow tie!

Speaking of dressing things up, these two looks are dapper and daring. The suite above is right on trend with the double breasted jacket and the bold pinstripe. Bold prints and texture seems to be a huge Fall '12 trend for men and women as seen in the jacket and vest combo below. I am of course getting life from that orange bow tie that I need for the tents this season!

My favorite look has to be the one above because I love unique pieces with lots of detail and color. This has all three and then some. The front has toggle buttons which gives it an interesting military or band look and the back has a hoodie which is on trend 90's fierceness. The picture below shows a pant that everyone seemed to be obsessed with! I love seeing detail like this on menswear. These pants are perfect for the fashion forward badass in your life!

I had such an amazing time at the Robert Graham Fall '12 presentation. RG is a brand that relates to my asthetic and I was thrilled when I got to take home a RG bowtie! I wore it to my next big event which was the Jeffery Fashion Cares cocktail party at Jeffery New York in the Meatpacking District. Check out how good my RG bowtie looks in my photo with friend of OJ&B Sonja Morgan (who looks stunning by the way)!

UVN: BEFORE WE GET INTO FASHION WEEK WE HAVE TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON BEING FEATURED IN US WEEKLY AND ABC NEWS! WHAT HAS THIS EXPERIENCE OF BEING FEATURED IN OTHER MEDIA OUTLETS BEEN LIKE FOR YOU & YOUR BLOG OJ&B?

JV: Being featured as an Us Weekly Fashion Police Top Cop has been an amazing experience! It is something that I have always wanted to do! When I was in college in Texas I worked at a grocery store as a cashier and I remember that I would always look at the celebrity magazines and think about how cool it would be to be in one. Now I am and it is so much fun and the exposure is insane! Being on ABC 7 in NYC was an incredible experience. I was on talking about Golden Globes fashion and I am thrilled with how it turned out. The package they put together was amazing and I am hoping to do a lot more!

UVN: THIS IS YOUR FOURTH SEASON COVERING FASHION WEEK AS AN OFFICIAL MEDIA MEMBER. EACH YEAR IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAVE BIGGER THINGS PLANNED. DOES THE PLANNING GET MORE DIFFICULT EACH TIME AROUND?

JV: The planning actually gets easier believe it or not! As you have more seasons under your belt you know what to expect and how things work. Your game plan gets stronger and you know that it is ok if you can't make it to everything. There is so much going on that it is impossible to do it all.

UVN: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR A FIRST TIME MEDIA MEMBER?

JV: Make sure that you do the things that make sense for your audience. That will help you in deciding what to cover. Also, do not get your feelings hurt if you get denied access to cover shows. Part of the fun each season is seeing who invites you. I am so excited to have been invited to designer's shows who did not give me access in the past. You have to prove yourself in the industry.

UVN: WITH ALREADY SEVERAL INTERVIEWS BOOKED, WHAT KIND OF COVERAGE SHOULD OJ&B FANS EXPECT?

JV: This season I am really pushing video content. I am really excited to be teaming up with The Ultra V Network again. The videos from last season were something that we were experimenting with and they turned out great. I cannot wait to do more this season! UVN: LAST YEAR YOU HELD MEET UPS AT THE 'IT GETS BETTER LOUNGE' AMONG OTHERS. WHERE CAN FASHION WEEK ATTENDEES EXPECT TO MEET YOU THIS SEASON?

JV: I am actually working on doing two more tweet ups that will include a fun giveaway! I am still locking down last minute deets so keep your eye on OJ&B to see how you can get in on the fashion week action!

UVN: WE KNOW YOU'VE BEEN TO TONS OF FASHION SHOW THROUGH OUT THE YEARS. WHAT FACTORS MAKE FOR A GREAT RUNWAY SHOW?

JV: The designer has the ability to take all of us watching on a journey. To me a great show has

music that matches the garments and the energy of the show. I love when I am in the tents and I can feel the music thumping below my seat. I am usually the one in the audience who is moving my head along to the music. Timing is also key for a good show. I love a dramatic opening and closing garment in a fashion show.

UVN: LAST SEASON YOU LOVED DESIGNERS LIKE MARLON GOBEL AND CARLOS MIELE. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED SHOWS THIS SEASON?

JV: Every season I am so honored to be invited to a designer's show. The fact that their team wants me there to see the debut of their hard work really means a lot to me. This season I am so excited to see Charlotte Ronson, Whitney Eve, Badgley Mischka, Joseph Abboud, Rolando Santana, Nanette Lepore, Carlos Campos and Falguni and Shane Peacock.

UVN: BEING A FASHION INSIDER YOUR ALWAYS AHEAD OF THE CURVE WHEN IT COMES TO WHATS NEW AND TRENDY. WHAT KIND OF TRENDS DO YOU THINK WE'LL SEE THIS UPCOMING SEASON?

JV: I think that we are going to see pops of color for fall. There is also going to be lots of texture and longer hemlines like we saw in Spring/Summer 2012.

UVN: AS YOU KNOW OJ&B AND THE ULTRA V NETWORK ARE TEAMING UP FOR ON-THE-SCENE FASHION WEEK COVERAGE. IF YOU COULD PICK A CELEBRITY TO CO-HOST THIS COVERAGE WITH YOU WHO WOULD IT BE?

JV: Joan Rivers! We would crack up the entire time and I would love it!!

UVN: ITS NEVER EASY TO LAND A CELEBRITY INTERVIEW BUT YOU HAVE DONE YOUR SHARE AND THAT GOES FOR THIS UPCOMING SEASON AS WELL. FOR ANYONE WHO DARES TO STEP UP TO THE MIC, WHICH CELEBS ARE YOU CALLING OUT FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH JONATHAN VALDEZ AT MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK?

JV: Where do I start? I would love to snag an interview with SJP, The Olsen Twins, Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Pat Field and the list goes on and on!

UVN: BEFORE WE GO, WE KNOW THAT ORANGE HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE COLOR OF THE YEAR..BEING THE CREATOR OF ORANGE JUICE & BISCUITS HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CELEBRATE???

JV: By wearing an orange bow tie! Seriously I am looking for one!! I am so excited that orange is the color of the year because it is one of my favorite colors long before I had OJ&B!! I live for color!

Material Girl Goes Behind The Scenes Of Madonna's Epic Superbowl Halftime Show!

There is no doubt that Madonna SHUT IT DOWN at the Superbowl last night during her Bridgestone Halftime show! The Material Girl made an entrance fit for a Queen of Pop as hundreds of strapping gladiators pulled her in for her twelve minute performance. Madge showed the world yet again why she will always be a legend while silencing all her naysayers.

I was so happy that the world got to see Madonna doing what made her Madonna! Not only is Madonna a pop icon but she also has her hands full with other projects like Material Girl, a clothing line with her oldest daughter Lourdes.

Last night Material Girl received some awesome behind-the-scenes images of Madonna’s dressing room, sent to the brand by the Material Girl herself!! Material Girl was nice enough to then share them with OJ&B for all of my guys and gals!

OJ&B In The Press: Alumni Blogger Becomes Fashion's "Top Cop"

Texas State University's campus newspaper The University Star recently did an article about OJ&B becoming an Us Weekly Fashion Police Top Cop! The article talks about how OJ&B got started and discusses my time at Texas State's official radio station KTSW! Check out the article below!

Alumni blogger becomes fashion’s “top cop”

The “someday” many students dream of has arrived for a Texas State alumnus and a US Weekly fashion department’s “top cop.”

Jonathan Valdez, 2009 graduate, worked his way from university media to laying down the law for a major US publication. His journey to the top of the fashion foodchain had humble beginnings.
“I can remember working at HEB and reading the commentary on US Weekly’s latest issue,” Valdez said. “Every time I would think ‘I want to be there someday.’”

Valdez said he spent three years working for KTSW as a DJ for the morning show Orange Juice and Biscuits.

“It was a great show, well produced, with a lot of unique features,” Dan Schumacher, professor and general manager of KTSW, said. “It helped Jonathan discover what he had and refine those skills.”

Valdez and his cohost Mandy Dugan interviewed celebrities at the SXSW Film Festival in 2009.
“We worked the red carpet and talked to J.K. Simmons, Jason Segel, and other actors in the movie ‘I Love You, Man,’” Dugan, Spring 2010 graduate, said.

US Weekly’s fashion director saw his commentary via Twitter and set the gears in motion for him to become “top cop.”

Valdez said he moved to New York, was invited to different shows and met key people in the entertainment industry.

ABC Channel 7 of New York asked Valdez to comment on the Golden Globe fashion.

“I jumped when they called,” Valdez said. “It’s the next level after blogging, and it was great to get back on air. “

Valdez comments for “fashion police,” a section of US weekly focusing on celebrity styles, every other week. His commentary has been published numerous times since he started writing for them.

Schumacher said Valdez grew during his time at the radio station.

“I would support him all the way, but it was his own motivation that got him going,” Schumacher said. “An elite bunch of students emerge from KTSW, and he was one of them.”

London Fog Spring 2012 Campaign Featuring Nicole Scherzinger: MEOW!

Nicole Scherzinger (or if you are like me and can't ever remember her last name she's just, "Nicole from Pussy Cat Dolls") was chosen to be the face of London Fog's Spring 2012 campaign. The legendary trench coat company launched their latest marketing campaign with the former X Factor judge today and the pictures are very... well... uh.. SEXY and some made me literally say, "OH MY!"

I lurve me some PCD and I always said that Nicole was the best and no one ever needed to know the other girls names (I never knew who they were) but I don't think she knows how to leave her PCD in the past.

As one of her songs say, "hold up, wait a minute, let me put my two cents in it." Check out the pics and tell me what you think!

Nanette Lepore Hosts New Media Brunch At Her Garment District Showroom!

Last week designer Nanette Lepore hosted a fabulous brunch for New Media. It was the first time that the designer held a sit down brunch event to get to know members of new media in her showroom. OJ&B was honored to be invited and excited to mingle and officially meet Nanette!

Nanette Lepore had her personal chef make the exclusive group of new media an amazing brunch. There was also a Bloody Mary bar where you could custom make your own Bloody Marys. The best part about having a brunch in Nanette's show room is that we were surrounded by her beautiful and bright Spring/Summer 2012 collection! Food, fashion and fab people, what a better way to spend a Friday in NYC?

After brunch Nanette's team took us to a clothing factory in the Garment District. Nanette is a huge supporter of the "Save The Garment District" movement as all of her patterns, samples and orders are made in NYC's historical garment district! Nanette and her team stated that making things locally in NYC makes for faster order turnarounds. Nanette said that not having to wait for samples to come back from outside of the country is a huge help for her and her team especially when they are getting ready for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Someone told me that Kim's publicist would be sure that Kim saw it. I really hope that Kimmy K knows that I was just doing my job and that if we were friends in real life she would not be in the Fashion Police section as I would always tell her if she looked like a mess before she left the house.

In my mind Kim is going to call me and here is how the convo is going to go:

Kim: That was really rude!

Me: Kim, those pants were rude! I was just doing my job as a friend and as a Top Cop. I can't lie! Lunch slash bevs soon?

Kim: Fine! I forgive you but we have to do lunch at a cafe with outside seating so we can film it for Kim and Kourtney Take NY season 3.

Then we air kiss over the phone... totally going to happen, right?

Max Irons and INC Team Up For Macy’s Spring/Summer 2012

Macy’s brand INC International Concepts has a new front man for Spring/Summer 2012. Black and white photos featuring British actor (and my new favorite) Max Irons sporting some styles for the new line will be popping up in Macy's men's department.

Irons is known for his role as Henry in Red Ridding Hood alongside Amanda Seyfried. He will also play the lead role of Jared in The Host, a movie adaptation of Twilight author Stephanie Myers book.

The photos for the campaign were shot by Walter Chin and styled by Bill Mullen. They feature Irons wearing everything from casual clothing to sharp suits. The line expresses American-inspired clothing, including nautical outerwear, striped knits, gingham shirts, classic polos, and tailored, lightweight suits: everything a women wants to see on a well-dressed man.

Nancy Slavin, senior Vice President of marketing for Macy’s Merchandising group explained the company’s choice of Max Irons as the face for INC. “We liked his style and the fact that he is quickly gaining popularity in the U.S.,” she says. He’s on a trajectory and is quintessentially this brand. He wears the clothes very naturally.” Ron Van Doren, Vice President of design for INC described what the line represents for INC. “Spring 2012 is a seasonal interpretation of the heritage trend we’ve been building on for a while with our ‘Maine Men’ and ‘Prep Academy’” says Van Doren. “Our customer wants polished clothes with a fashion-forward sensibility and that’s what we’re offering with this collection.”

The line is currently available in 631 Macy’s stores and on Macys.com. I don’t wear men’s clothing, but after seeing the photos and hearing him talk on the video, I will definitely take a peek… well ogle, the photos the each time I walk into Macy’s.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Scouted’s Page Parkes Talks With OJ&B About The Latest Show On E!

During my recent vacation to Texas I made a special trip to Houston just to see friend of OJ&B, Page Parkes! I have know Page for many years now and she is one of the sweetest women that I know in the industry. Page will always have a special place in my heart as I met her when I was 15 or 16 years old and she told me within moments of us meeting that she felt that there was something special about me.

Page has built a scouting empire in Houston and Dallas Texas. She is co-owner of Page Parkes Corporation, the largest modelling and acting agency group in the Southwestern United States. With a history of famous discoveries and representation such as Channing Tatum and Alexis Bledel, Page is at the top of her game and has an amazing eye for talent!

I am thrilled that I had the chance to catch up with Page during my visit and that she was sweet enough to let me interview her for my OJ&B readers! Check out what Page had to say about being a part of E!'s latest show Scouted!

Orange Juice & Biscuits: How did you get involved with Scouted on E!?

Page Parkes: I got involved with scouted on E! from Michael Flutie who is the owner of Madwood productions in New York City. He is an ex model agent and he came up with the concept of appreciating the scouting process of the industry. There were no television shows exposing the early days of a career and how people are actually found. All t.v. shows that people have been seeing have to do with someone finding them and then showing the audience “here are your ten to choose from.” This show is letting you see how difficult it to really get an agent.

OJ&B: What does scouting mean to you?

PP: Scouting is a treasure hunt and in this case it happens to be a human treasure hunt. For me it’s just like looking for gold. It’s like trying to find something that really is a one in a million type of thing. I do think that it is in the addiction category of “I’m only as good as the last girl I found.” As soon as I find one and the PR train starts with that girl then people are asking me, “Who’s next?” That means I have to go scout again.

OJ&B: Is there one thing that a girl must have to succeed in this industry?

PP: I think there are many physical requirements that the industry requires that nobody asks me about. You need to be 5’ 9”, you need to 34 inch hips, you need to be short waisted and long legged. Normally girls have a special thing about them which is what has made the American girls not so popular the last ten years. Once the walls came down all over the world is when you started to have supermodels where you could not pronounce their names. It used to be Kelly Emberg, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista but that time in America has not been there in the last ten years. I believe that Scouted will also reignite the look of the American Girl.

OJ&B: Will we see any males getting scouted on this show?

PP: That’s a great question! As far as males getting scouted, you may not believe this, but men are actually more difficult to find. I don’t know if it’s just how odd I feel approaching them or if it’s that men laugh at you when you go up to them because they never really thought about themselves as a physical to be admired being. But yes, I do believe as Scouted continues that we will intermix men. That is my own personal belief, I will hear from the network as far as what their goals are. It’s not out of the question.

OJ&B: What do you hope comes from being a part of this project?

PP: Honestly, I think that this project, for me, was a way of showing everyone the hard work that goes into the early days of the career. All I can ask for as far as a return would be credibility for the Page Parkes Corporation.

HRC to Honor Anna Wintour with Ally of Equality Award Presented by Ryan Murphy

On February 4, 2012 the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization will host its annual Greater New York Gala dinner at the Waldorf Astoria. This year's Human Rights Campaign event comes as lawmakers passed historic marriage equality legislation, making New York the largest state in the country to allow gay and lesbian couples to legally marry. “Marriage equality in New York took center stage this past year,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “We won the battle in the Empire State, sending a message to the rest of the country that full equality for LGBT people is the right thing to do and will be the reality.” Governor Cuomo even listed marriage equality as one of his top accomplishments for 2011 in his annual “State of the State” address.

This year HRC will honor Anna Wintour with its Ally for Equality Award for her outspoken support of equality for the LGBT community. The award will be presented by the creator of the hit series Glee and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy. The Ally for Equality Award recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who dedicate time, energy, spirit and whole-hearted commitment to better the lives of LGBT people. This award is given to allies outside the LGBT community who stand up on behalf of equality for all Americans.

“We recognize Anna Wintour for her grace, dignity, style, philanthropy, and generosity,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “We are proud to honor her with the Ally for Equality Award for her commitment to the LGBT community through her work with marriage equality, HIV/AIDS activism, and the It Gets Better Campaign. It is completely fitting that someone like Ryan Murphy, who has done so much to advance LGBT equality, is presenting this award to Anna Wintour.”

I think that honoring Anna is an amazing idea! I really need slash want Ryan to get Anna to guest star on Glee as a home economics teacher who teaches the kids to make their own clothes. How epic would it be to see Anna in a musical number?

OJ&B Artist Profile: Michael Iakovou

OJ&B: What drew you to acting and how did you get started?

MI: I always wanted to be an actor from a little child. My grandmother and my great aunt would always ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I would always say an actor. They thought I would grow out of it but it never really left me. Around 19 years old is when I started to get serious about it.

OJ&B What training have you gone through to prepare for where you are today?

MI: My formal training included training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the bulk of my training came from Derek Lucci who is an instructor at Tisch. Prior to that I grew singing so I was always on stage doing plays in jr. high and high school. The training that I received in law school, being in the court room and trial practice classes, helped me to be comfortable in front of people. I can’t disregard that that played a part in molding me as an actor.

OJ&B: So you went to law school?

MI: I graduated law school this past spring. I passed the New York state bar exam and I have a background in entertainment law. I knew that one way or another I would always be involved in the industry. I am trying to blend my love of acting and love of the law to the best of my ability.

OJ&B: Tell me about your latest project that you are currently involved in.

MI: Inphigenia In Tauris is written by Euripides and it is a little under 4,000 years old. My character is the herdsman/guard. He is a barbarian that comes in the third scene and gives a six minute monologue about how his herd has just been slaughtered at the hands of two mystical and mythical Greeks.

OJ&B: What kind of prep work do you do to be ready as an actor in a Greek tragedy?

MI: Let me tell you! Greek tragedy is something that is unparalleled. With Greek tragedy really need to get to the essence of one’s being as an actor. You have to check your personal feelings about emotion that society has implemented or forced onto you at the door. There is no room for that in Greek tragedy. Everything is raw energy and emotion and pathos or passion in Greek. You relive it every time you get up on that stage. The energy demands that you relive it. If you don’t relive it then you will be surface acting and there is no room for surface acting in Greek tragedy. I have to give you my body and my blood or else your ticket was not worth the amount of money that you paid for it.

OJ&B: Tell me about North American tour you did with this play.

MI: The North American tour was great! We went to all of these places that I have always wanted to go. We started off in Vancouver and then went to Portland, Oregon and performed in an amazing amphitheater that was just like being in ancient Greece. I even got stung by a bee during my monologue! We then performed in Seattle, Connecticut and Houston and Dallas, Texas. No matter where we went the reception of the play was great!

OJ&B: So now the play is going to tour in Europe?

MI: We are in discussions to go to London and perform at West End. There is also Paris and Italy and I am excited for all of them. There may even be more countries in the works but that is up to the producers of the show. I think it is great that we are bringing something as great as Euripides to people with all different walks of life. There is a reason that this text has survived for so many years and that is because people can still relate to it.

OJ&B: What’s next for you after this experience?

MI: As I told you before I did pass the New York state bar exam so I am a licensed attorney now. That was always the plan to keep my acting and law and mold them together. I produced a short film that is in post production now and I hope to take it to some festivals this year. I see myself not having any limitations whether it be plays, theatre, film or television. We will see where the road takes me but I definitely see a future in all three because everything brings something different to the education of the craft.
