Record Hop at the Athol Orange Elks Lodge

Coming up in October! A Record Hop in partnership with the Athol Orange Elks Lodge and the Orange Bicentennial Committee to celebrate Orange history on Oct 10th from 7-11. The four hour free all-volunteer evening event will consist of dancing and remembering the 40s/50s/60s.

The event content will incorporate American popular culture with music and national historic moments. Local history will be the result of the research of town records from the library and personal collections. The format will be a radio station with music, news and sports from that era provided by classmates who worked at an Orange newspaper at that time.

All the town folks from high school to 100 should be at this free bicentennial event,

North Orange Day-July 24, 2010

The celebration of the incorporation of the Town of Orange in 1810 will take place on July 24, 2010 in the center of the village of North Orange. Activities will take place in Goddard Park and in front of the original meetinghouse at the time of incorporation, now the Community Church of North Orange and Tully.

The schedule for the day will include something for everyone. Parking and all events are free. Lunch will be available for purchase throughout the afternoon. The evening Blueberry Supper on the church lawn will costs $10.00 for adults, $4.00 for children seven and over, and free for
children under seven.

11:00 AM: Parade
12:30 PM to 2:30 PM: Historical bus tours
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Games and dances (see below)
4:00 PM: The Mid-Range Trio (see additional information)
5:00 PM: Parachute Drop
5:30 PM: Blueberry Supper
7:00 PM: Orange Community Band concert
During the afternoon Hay Rides and Pony Rides will be available as well a Pie-Eating Contest, Sack Races, a Three-Legged Race and a Bed Race. Throughout the day visitors will be welcome to use a brochure for a self-guided tour of historic sites around the center of the village.

Deerfield Children’s Museum
As part of the North Orange festivities on July 24th, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, a costumed museum teacher from the Deerfield Children's Museum of the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association will invite families to play with a variety of wooden toys and games from the 18th and 19th centuries. Walk on stilts, play a game of ninepins or graces, figure out what to do with a Jacob's ladder, play with old favorites such as ball & cup toys and jackstraws (pick-up sticks), and more. In addition, families will be invited to learn a simple country dance from the 18th century. This program is supported by a grant from the Orange Cultural Council, a local agency
which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

North Orange Day – there will be a parade and games for children as well. . The Community Band will be playing and the church will be serving a dinner. The Mid-Range Trio- among the day's attractions - is slated to entertain from 4 to 5pm at Goddard Park. All three members reside in Orange, and are pictured l-to-r: James Holston, Ann Reed and Terry Reed.

Wine Tasting and Henley Paintings Display

Come to an exhibit of paintings done by local artist Ralph Henley, along with a few of his pieces of inlaid furniture. A wine tasting will also take place during the exhibit. The hours of the exhibit are from Noon to 3:00pm.

Tickets are $18.10 and are available at the Town Hall (other locations to be announced). Dinner will be grilled boneless chicken breast, tossed salad, garlic chives mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetable medley, rolls & butter, homemade dessert, coffee, tea, and water. Dinner will be served at 6:00 and entertainment by the Tully Mountain Singers will follow.Come to the Riverfront Park in Orange and enjoy dinner and entertainment in one of Orange’s new venues.

Orange Gearing Up For 200th Anniversary

In 2010 the town of Orange will be celebrating its 200th anniversary. Plans are underway for a year-long celebration, but much help is needed to make this a success.

The bicentennial committee is planning on selling a calendar with pictures from around town and a listing of the events happening during the celebration year. Any person or business interested in purchasing an advertisement to help support this project should contact the committee before May 1 to be included.

Pancake and French toast breakfasts are being held on the first Saturday of every month to raise money for this celebration. Breakfast is served at the armory, 135 East Main St., from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost is $5 per person for all-you-can eat. Help is also needed to prepare and serve these breakfasts each month. Persons wishing to help are asked to contact someone on the committee for details.

The bicentennial committee and Friends of the Bicentennial meet twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall. Residents are invited to stop in at a meeting and see what is being planned and to offer any suggestions to make this a fun-filled celebration.

Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Show

The celebration year will kick off on December 31, 2009 at Starry, Starry Night and end on December 31, 2010 at Starry, Starry Night. The celebration parade will be October 10, 2010.
