Aluminum Shingle Roofs

We do a lot of sheet metal roofs in Sydney, but there’s another company using aluminium shingles that look quite good. You can read their post at www.architectureanddesign.com.au

I haven’t seen shingles too much in Sydney, but with the resin sealer that’s used to protect hem and reflect heat, they seem like another good option. Here’s a bit more that you can read a bit more about the advantages of metal roofing.

Valley Metal

A roof needs to shed the rainwater, especially in heavy storms. With metal roofs this can be helped a lot by installing “valleys” which are v-shaped tracks that channel the water into the drains. There’s a post by a Seattle roofing company ( there’s a lot of rain in Seattle )with a good pic at the Valentine Roofing Blog. It looks like it’s metal shingles on the roof they show. In Sydney we use corrugated sheets a lot which are also good channelers.

Up on Vancouver Island they roof with metal shingles. We do a lot of metal roofing down here in Sydney, but I haven’t come across Ironwood Shakes before. You can read more about them at www.ryanparton.ca

We use the corrugated and long-form metal sections, coupled with a good heat-reflective paint for our metal roofing.

Dallas roofing seems to be similar to Sydney’s in a lot of ways. Per their post at www.media-cn.com Dallas roofing seem to be going for metal and slate too. And this is Dallas Roofing website, which in interesting for a comparison – www.dallasroofingpro.com

Dallas has a humid sub-tropical climate, but with temperature extremes that seem greater than Sydney’s, and they get tornadoes sometimes too. I’m not so worried about tornadoes here in Sydney, but a strong metal roof is probably a good idea, judging from the big hailstorms we’ve been getting recently. More here about metal roofing.
