Today was the premiere of Beyonce's new single "Video Phone" featuring Lady GaGa. Now in my opinion nothing can top "Single Ladies," however, this "Video Phone" music video turns it out--not in the same way, but Beyonce does not disappoint. She loves her dance moves and so do I. This video might be easier to learn the dance than "Single Ladies." I wish Lady GaGa was in "Video Phone," maybe they'll do a remake.

The biggest local race is for Virginia Governor, where Democrats last year handed the GOP its first presidential defeat in 44 years, the GOP is trying to stage a comeback. Creigh Deeds, a state senator who narrowly lost the attorney general’s race to McDonnell four years ago, are running to replace the term-limited Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine.

Still, a handful of elections in a few states will give hints about this country’s state of mind, provide lessons for both Republicans and Democrats, and shed light on answers to a few important questions a year before pivotal 2010 midterm contests.

Amazon Closes Zappos Deal, Ends Up Paying $1.2 Billion

Amazon earlier this morning announced the official closing of the acquisition of Zappos, a deal which we broke the news about back in July. Turns out the valuation of the online footwear and clothing retailer went up from the reported $928 million over the past few months too – thank you, stock market – and Zappos turns out to have been deemed worth a solid $1.2 billion by Jeff Bezos & co based on Friday’s closing price of $117.4 a share.

Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh writes in a public letter:

We’ve been spending the past few months obtaining all the proper government approvals, and I’m happy to say that we officially closed the deal at the split second between Halloween (10/31/09) and All Saints’ Day (11/1/09). From a practical point of view, we’ve switched out our previous board of directors with a new management committee that is composed of people from Zappos as well as Amazon.

Our investors and other shareholders exchanged their Zappos.com shares for approximately 10 million Amazon.com shares. Given the closing price on Friday, 10/30/09, for Amazon stock, those shares were valued at approximately $1.2 billion at the time of close.

As expected, the Zappos management team will remain intact and the company will continue to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary with headquarters in Las Vegas, NV.

I’ve embedded a chart showing Amazon’s stock price evolution since the announcement of the acquisition was first made at the end of July up until now. The significant jump noticeable on the right is from when the company announced solid third-quarter earnings.

It made an estimated $272 million difference for Zappos this weekend.

NEW YORK (CBS)-As the lawyer of Phillies fan Susan Finkelstein denies allegations that she offered an undercover police officer sex for World Series tickets, new pictures on Facebook have surfaced that appear to show a happy and somewhat reserved woman whose online image is greatly at odds with the portrayal by Pennsylvania police.

Finkelstein made headlines Tuesday when she was arrested after using Craigslist to find someone willing to give her World Series tickets, allegedly in exchange for sex.

An undercover officer in the Philadelphia suburb of Bensalem responded to the ad and claims he met with the 43-year-old woman at a bar. The officer said Finkelstein offered to perform various sex acts with him and his brother, who the cop claimed also had an extra seat.

But Finkelstein's lawyer, William Brennan, says his client did nothing wrong and feels police went over the line in pursuing her.

"I know the cops need to police the Internet for Craigslist, but going after a 44-year-old married lady trying to get to World Series tickets, that's way over the top," he told Crimesider Wednesday in a phone interview.

Brennan also vouches for Finkelstein's bona fides as a true Phillies fan.

"I am kind of a Phillies fan, but I could not name the 1980 starting lineup, but she can. She is for real," he said.

Today is the 57th Anniversary of the Barcode, the first patent on the bar code was back on 7 October 1952.

2016 Olympics Announcement: Hours Before The IOC Vote

2016 Olympics Announcement - In 30 minutes, it will be over.

Years of preparations, arm-twisting, sweet-talking and hopes will be rejected or rewarded Friday when the International Olympic Committee votes to select the host for the 2016 Games.

Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo – one by one – will be eliminated in a tense half-hour of successive rounds of secret balloting until one stands alone.

Shortly afterward, IOC president Jacques Rogge will break open a sealed envelope containing the winner's name and utter the magic words: "The games of the 31st Olympiad are awarded to the city of ..."

But on the eve of the vote, the IOC's 106 members were, as ever, keeping their thoughts to themselves. Only Tokyo seemed to have fallen out of the running. Otherwise, it was still too close to call between the beaches and bossa nova of Rio, the bustle and Lake Michigan waterfront of Chicago or the European elegance of Madrid. Everyone had reason to be hopeful, none reason to be sure.

"This is the big question, how will it go?" said Willi Kaltschmitt, an IOC member since 1988.

"There have been so many surprises in the past," he said. "It's very even at the moment. It all depends what happens in the first round."

As cities go out, loyalties will shift. That is where the contest will be won or lost. If Tokyo goes out first, will its supporters swing behind Rio, Madrid or Chicago and by how much for each? Could Madrid stun front-runners Chicago and Rio in the second round, knocking one of them out, with its seemingly solid core of backers?

The variables are such that any city could conceivably win or lose. A few votes either way could decide it. That is especially true this time, with all four cities seen as generally capable of holding the games. Some IOC veterans say there has been no closer contest in recent memory.

To prevent bribery, IOC members aren't allowed to visit the bidding cities – so they'll be deciding instead based on what they've read in committee reports. Some will go with their gut instincts, their emotions and personal interests.

Which is where President Barack Obama comes in, literally. He jets in Friday morning, for just five hours, to try to tip the outcome to Chicago. An Obama star turn could swing it – or possibly rebound against him if his adoptive hometown is knocked out. Coming for the day of the vote is a political risk, but so, too, was the risk that Rio might win if Obama didn't lend his charisma and inspirational example to Chicago's final push.

His election as the first black president in U.S. history resonated loudly in Europe, which has the most IOC voting members – 46.

His wife, Michelle Obama, has worked the room before him, wowing IOC members with her charm and smarts. The first lady flew in Wednesday. While hesitant to declare that Barack Obama's appearance could be decisive, IOC members acknowledged it was hotly anticipated.

"It is a very special moment," said Gerhard Heiberg, an IOC executive board member from Norway. "Let me listen to him and see what kind of vision he has for the games."

Talk show star Oprah Winfrey is part of Chicago's hard sell, too. She swept Hollywood-style into the marbled lobby of the IOC hotel on Thursday, turning heads and stopping every other step to shake a hand or pose for a photo with IOC members and their wives.

But Chicago is up against equally charismatic opposition in the shape of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The bearded former union leader makes a compelling case for Rio. Foremost of those is that South America has never before held an Olympics and that the games shouldn't be the exclusive preserve of rich, developed countries. That is an argument the other cities can't use because their countries have all held the Olympics before. Like Mrs. Obama, Silva has been lobbying IOC members personally in Copenhagen, as has Spanish King Juan Carlos.

Rio appeals to IOC members who believe it's their duty to share the Olympic ideals and pursuit of sporting excellence with all corners of the globe. South America is also an untapped market for Olympic sponsors. The romantic appeal of Rio's beaches and mountains is strong. The soothing samba song "Mas que nada" – "Don't worry about it" – playing in the auditorium lent an exotic, dreamy air to a news conference that Silva held Thursday.

"For some countries, it is just one more sports event that they are going to organize," he said. "But for us, it is a unique and extraordinary thing."

He even borrowed Obama's catchphrase: "We want to overcome and show the world that yes we can."

The final throw of the dice for all four cities will be their 45-minute presentations of speeches and videos, followed by questions, that they will make in turn Friday before the vote. Kaltschmitt said he believes that 40 percent of his colleagues on the IOC were undecided going into Friday and were waiting for the presentations to make up their minds.

Added Heiberg: "We've already heard about the technical plans. I want something more. I want to know about the vision. The leaders have to lift it up. I want to know why they want the games."

It takes a simple majority for victory, although it is unlikely that any city will win outright in the first or second rounds.

Rogge doesn't vote and, as long as their cities haven't been eliminated, neither can members from Brazil, the United States, Spain and Japan.

That leaves 97 voters in the first round, with more in subsequent rounds. In the event of a two-city tie in the early rounds, a runoff is held between the cities. If there is a tie in the final round, Rogge can vote or ask the IOC executive board to break the deadlock.

British bookmakers had Chicago pulling away in the last hours as the clear but not overwhelming favorite.

"But don't forget that Paris was the favorite to beat London the last time," said Graham Sharpe, spokesman for betting agency William Hill. "The favorite doesn't always win."

Facebook is either under attack by a virus, or is suffering a major glitch today with users reporting that their school name has been changed to Vidyartha College.

The so-called Vidyartha College Facebook virus was first reported earlier Tuesday (US PDT) and has since spread across the site.

At this stage we don’t know though what’s causing it, and at the time of writing Facebook has made no official comment.

It is more likely that the so-called virus is a bug on Facebook’s end, with a similar occurrence having happened once in the past. However the application of the name seems to be spreading between friends and isn’t appearing on all accounts, suggesting that maybe there might be something more serious at play.

We’ll update the post if we hear anything.

Since 1850 alone, tsunamis have been responsible for the loss of over 420,000 lives and billions of dollars of damage to coastal structures and habitats. Most of these casualties were caused by local tsunamis that occur about once per year somewhere in the world.

For example, the December 26, 2004, tsunami killed about 130,000 people close to the earthquake and about 58,000 people on distant shores. Predicting when and where the next tsunami will strike is currently impossible. Once the tsunami is generated, forecasting tsunami arrival and impact is possible through modeling and measurement technologies.

What To Do following tsunamio? - Simulations show the initial tsunami wave from the 1700 event reached the coast in 20 to 30 minutes - so time is limited. Geologic history showed waves with this event were as high as 30 feet. So you must get at least that high above sea level.

To top it off, the earthquake will also result in the coastal area subsiding as much as six feet, meaning the ground and roadways will likely be very uneven, and you are now that much lower to sea level. Since the roads will be in pieces, evacuation must be on foot. Another form of evacuation is vertical evacuation into a sturdy building of at least three stories and climb to at least the third story.

Other area earthquake faults could produce such strong violent quakes, such as the Seattle fault that produced a tsunami in Puget Sound about 1100 years ago. Yet, the most likely source for a local tsunami is the Cascadia Subduction Zone off our coast.

A Distant Source - The perimeter of the Pacific Ocean Basin, nicknamed the Ring of Fire, has a number of earthquake sources that can produce strong earthquakes of 7.0 magnitude or greater. During the 20th century, there were three 9.0 magnitude or greater quakes, the last was the 1964 Alaskan quake of 9.2 magnitude that produced a tsunami throughout the Pacific Basin. These kind of earthquakes permit a lead time of hours before their subsequent tsunami reaches the Washington coastline. Tsunamis from distant locations like Japan or Chile will take over 10 hours to get here, while from Alaska, only three to six hours.

Tsunamis generated from both sources of earthquakes do penetrate into the Puget Sound region via the Strait of Juan de Fuca and up coastal rivers, harbors and bays, but lose energy as they move further inland.

What To Do? - A Tsunami Warning System has been put into place to help minimize loss of life and property. The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska monitors for earthquakes and subsequent tsunami events. If a tsunami is generated, they issue tsunami watches and warnings, as well as tsunami information bulletins for Alaska, British Columbia and Washington, Oregon and California.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii provides the same service for the Aloha state as well as all other American territories in the Pacific. They also serve as the International Tsunami Warning Center for 25 other member countries in the Pacific Ocean Basin.

Both of the tsunami warning centers use earthquake information, tide gauges and now a new tool from NOAA - tsunami detection buoys, developed by NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. Six of these buoys are now deployed in the north Pacific to help scientists determined whether a tsunami has been generated and moving across the Pacific before reaching North American coastlines - another tool in the tsunami warning centers warning toolbox to help avoid any false alarms. More of these buoys would help detection as well as provide backup to each other since the buoys suffer outages in the harsh north Pacific Ocean.

Once a tsunami watch or warning is issued

Upon receipt of tsunami watches and warnings, coastal National Weather Service (NWS) offices such as those in Seattle and Portland, activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) via NOAA Weather Radio. All broadcasters (TV, AM/FM radio, cable TV) receive the tsunami EAS message simultaneously as well as those with weather radio receivers in homes, businesses, schools, health care facilities, etc. NOAA Weather Radio also activates the All-Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) units located in remote coastal areas, alerting people in those isolated locations.

Upon receipt of tsunami watch and warning messages, local emergency management officials (see Clallam County, WA as an example) can decide to activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to evacuate low-lying coastal areas in advance of the initial tsunami wave. Their EAS messages are also received by broadcasters, weather radio receivers and All Hazard Alert Broadcasts (AHABs) to help provide widespread dissemination of these messages. Follow the directions provided by your area emergency management officials - they will help save your life and those of your loved ones.

If you want your own tsunami warning message receipt system, obtain a NOAA weather radio receiver with EAS-programmable features. They are available from most radio electronic retailers and on the Internet.

Role of Education in developing the Tsunami Resilient Community

Education is another key element in the tsunami warning system. Many coastal areas have designated tsunami inundation zones and marked evacuation routes to assist residents and visitors to higher ground. Emergency management officials also distribute tsunami education information, conduct community meetings and workshops, and many more awareness activities.

The National Weather Service recognizes communities with strong tsunami warning and awareness programs through the TsunamiReady Community program. Such communities are recognized for their efforts to enhance their tsunami warning system, widespread use of weather radio receivers and community awareness activities. TsunamiReady road signs are also a part of NWS recognition.

The question that haunted everyone, including the police, was, "Why?" The details didn't seem to add up. Rachael and Tiffany had befriended Christine Paolilla and offered her advice, including beauty tips. The friends even carried pictures of each other in their wallets.

Indonesian 19.2 Pound Baby Jumbo

On Monday a woman in Indonesia broke her country's record for fattest baby, popping out a whopper of a kid who weighed a little over 19 lbs. Sounds like double congratulations are in order ... and some painkillers.

The woman, who had previously had three children with a traditional midwife in attendance, was escorted to the hospital when complications arose in her pregnancy, which was nine months along.

The doctors performed a Caesarian section and pulled out the 19.2-lb. baby boy. Doctors are saying the baby is healthy, although his crying is unusually loud, and his apparent love for food has traveled with him out of the womb. Binsar Sitanggang, one of the attending gynecologists, described it as "almost non-stop feeding."

The baby is probably the size it is because his mother is diabetic, a condition which could have raised her glucose levels and thereby the baby's, giving him more sugar than he needed and making him grow like a superhero fetus.

Although the largest surviving baby in the world weighed 3 lbs. more than this fellow, topping the scales at 22.44 pounds, let's not kid ourselves: This baby is huuuuuge. How huge? Here are some other things that weigh approximately the same as Indonesia's Jumbo Baby.

One of those ungodly gigantic sacks of potatoes that are so big you wonder who buys them.

A car tire. That's right. An actual car tire.

If you had four 5-lb. bags of sugar, and your neighbor borrowed about 2 cups, the remainder would equal Gigantor Child.

Raymond Clark III Still Being Hot News

An alleged believed Facebook account located HERE is also now gone. And while covered earlier on LALATE this evening, the myspace account shared by Clark and Hromadka is also now allegedly gone.

That myspace account had Hromadka blogging the following:

“I love hanging out with Ray’s family (he has a great one) and playing with \[his sister\] Denise and \[her husband\] Shawn’s Adorable kids, Caleb and Brielle.”

But in May 2008, Jennifer Hromadka wrote on myspace about a rumor that Clark was having an affair with another Yale lab tech:

“My boyfriend, Ray, if you don’t know him, has no interest in any of the other girls at YARC as anything more than friends.

“He is a bit naive, doesn’t always use the best judgment, definitely is not the best judge of character but he is a good guy.

“He has a big heart and tries to see the best in people ALL THE TIME! even when everyone else is telling him that the person is a psycho or that the person can’t be trusted.

“He thinks everyone deserves a second chance and has a hard time hurting people’s feelings and it takes him getting burned to learn.”

A week ago Tuesday, Annie Le was murdered. Thereafter on Friday, Hromadka blogged:

“Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I’m not perfect and I don’t live to be, but before you start pointing fingers make sure your hands are clean!!”

While Clark was taken in for question, police were quick to clarify - this is not an arrest nor a search warrant:

“We are looking for DNA and physical evidence.This is not an arrest warrant, this is a search warrant. We don’t know if he is cooperating or not. If he doesn’t comply with this search warrant, he will be arrested.”

Patrick Swayze Died at 57

LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into moviegoers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. Swayze died in Los Angeles, Wolf said, but declined to give further details.

Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer. He kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot.

Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making "The Beast" because they would have taken the edge off his performance. The show drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that. Swayze acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters in early 2009. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."

C. Thomas Howell, who co-starred with Swayze in "The Outsiders," "Grandview U.S.A." and "Red Dawn", said: "I have always had a special place in my heart for Patrick. While I was fortunate enough to work with him in three films, it was our passion for horses that forged a friendship between us that I treasure to this day. Not only did we lose a fine actor today, I lost my older `Outsiders' brother."

Other celebrities used Twitter to express condolences, and "Dirty Dancing" was the top trending topic for a while Monday night, trailed by several other Swayze films.
