Actor Hiro Mizushima to Guest Star in HBO's Girls TV Series

Actor Hiro Mizushima (Black Butler, Kamen Rider Kabuto) announced via Instagram that he will make a guest appearance in HBO's Girls TV series.

He will appear in the show's 5th season, which will premiere next year. His guest role in the show is his first role in a foreign production. To those who are unaware, the actor can speak both Japanese and English fluently.

Dori Sakurada (NEW Den-O) Talks About the Live-Action Bakuman Film

Dori Sakurada, best known for his role as Kamen Rider Den-O's Kotaro Nogami/NEW Den-O posted on his blog today that he watched the advanced screening of the live-action Bakuman film.

To those who are not aware, Takeru Satoh, he plays the role of Moritaka Mashiro in the film played his on-screen grandfather, Ryotaro Nogami/Den-O in the Farewell, Kamen Rider Den-O: Final Countdown film. Both actors are also from the same talent agency, Amuse Inc.

As for his thoughts about the film, he thought that he's going to die because he really liked it. He said that we might think that his review for the film might be a bit of exaggeration, but he had great fun watching it and even cried in some scenes because its a really great film.

The live-action Bakuman film is set for an October 3 premiere in Japan.

Ayame Misaki Invites You to Watch the Attack on Titan Films in Multiple Languages!

Ayame Misaki (Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters), who plays Hiana in the live-action Attack on Titan films posted videos in her official YouTube channel, which invites fans to watch the film!

Misaki posted the said message in the following languages: English, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, and Spanish. The said languages mentioned are where the film is airing as of the moment or in the future.

The first Attack on Titan film will premiere on August 1st while the second film will premiere in September 19th.

Kamen Rider Ghost: Meet Ryu Tenkuuji

Last month, actor Kazuhiko Nishimura posted photos on his blog about something that he was filming recently. Thanks to the recent revelation that he is part of the Kamen Rider Ghost cast, confirming that the photos from his blog are from the show's set.

The filming took place at the Gunma Prefecture and in the show, he plays the role of Ryu Tenkuuji, the father of Takeru Tenkuuji aka Kamen Rider Ghost. In the photo above, he is seen wearing a necklace that his son will eventually wear in the series.

This is not his first role in tokusatsu as he is best known for his role in Chojuu Sentai Liveman as Joh Ohara aka Yellow Lion.

Kamen Rider Ghost premieres this October 4th.

This video, which will be posted in the official Toei YouTube channel called "[Open Your Eye] Kamen Rider Ghost Special Preceding Video [Batchiriminā!] [Official]" will give us our first glimpse on the new Rider before he makes his debut on TV.

Live-Action Anohana Drama Special Kid Cast, Air Date Announced

New details for the live-action Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day drama special revealed the special's air date as well as the kids who will play the main characters as children.

The first scene of the special and the first scene that features the kids is a hide-and-seek scene in a poppy field in Chichibu. The child cast are as follows (from left to right):

Santa Takahashi as Tetsudō "Poppo" Hisakawa
Chinami Yoshioka as Naruko "Anaru" Anjō
Minamide Ryouka as Jinta "Jintan" Yadomi
Kanon Tani as Meiko "Menma" Honma

Karen Ichihara as Chiriko "Tsuruko" Tsurumi

The special is directed by Masaki Nishiura (Densha Otoko), with scripts written by Yoshihiro Izumi (Ranma ½, Death Note live-action drama). Theme songs from the anime, namely the opening theme "Aoi Shiori" by Galileo Galilei and a cover of the ending theme "secret base ~Kimi ga Kuretamono~" by Silent Siren will be used in the special.

The Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day drama special will air on September 21st from 9pm to 11:18pm.

S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Garren Broken Helmet Ver. Revealed

The official Toei Hero Net website has unveiled the official images of S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Garren Broken Helmet Ver. from the Kamen Rider Blade TV series.

As what was previously reported, this figure is based on Garren's appearance in Kamen Rider Blade's 47th episode titled "Garren Eliminated".

This weathered version of the Garren suit with a broken helmet and a heavily damaged armor stands 140mm tall comes with the Garren Rouzer, his cards, and a set of interchangeable hands. This Toei Hero Net exclusive item cost 6,156 yen and is set for a January 2016 release.

Gosei Sentai Dairanger North American DVD Price, Release Date Announced

The official Shout! Factory website has finally revealed the price and the release date of the Gosei Sentai Dairanger DVD Box set just a day after the official box art for the series was revealed!

Here's the official series synopsis from Shout! Factory:

The three Tribes of the Daos Empire — Shura, Dai and Gorma — were peaceful until the Gorma set out to conquer the planet, launching a magical war between the Gorma and Dai Tribes that lasted for 5,000 years. In the end, both civilizations were lost... until now. The evil Gorma have returned. Now, it's up to Master Kaku to assemble a team of kids with high levels of chi to become the protectors of the Earth known as the Dairangers!

This 10-disc set cost $53.97 and is set for a November 10 release.

Kamen Rider Ghost First Footage Revealed

The recent Kamen Rider Ghost press conference was featured in a recent morning show. But that's not all, we got our first footage of the TV series!

Meet Takeru Tenkuuji, a man who died at the hands of a Ganma, a mysterious creature while protecting Akari and Onari. Because of this act, he was resurrected by a mysterious hermit who gives him power to become a Kamen Rider and 99 days to live before he disappears.

That being said, the time he has left in the world will be used to collect 15 Ghost Eyecons to revive himself. A man who doesn't forgive anyone who treats life lightly, he now follows the same road his father took as a ghost hunter.

The series is directed by Satoshi Morota (Timeranger, Gaoranger, Boukenger), is written by Takuro Fukuda (Trick, Mr. Max Man), and is produced by former Kamen Rider Fourze assistant producer Kazuhiro Takahashi will serve as the head producer for the series. Other producers of the series include: TV-Asahi's Motoi Sasaki, Toei's Shiori Kodaka, and Toei's Kenta Ando.

Kamen Rider Ghost premieres this October 4th.

Hana Yori Dango Stage Musical Cast Announced

The 18th issue of this year's Margaret magazine revealed the cast of the Hana Yori Dango stage musical.

Playing the lead protagonist Tsukushi Makino is Ririka Kato, who auditioned for the role and was chosen among 3,000 participants in a country-wide open audition. The play's male lead cast are as follows:

Mackenyu (Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future) as Sōjirō Nishikado (bottom left)

The upcoming play, based on Yoko Kamio's manga is directed by Yumi Suzuki with scripts written by Go Aoki. In addition, Akimitsu Homa will compose the play's music. The play is set to open in January 2016 in Tokyo.

Choudenshi Bioman's Michiko Makino to Attend HenshinCon 2016 Event

The official HenshinCon website announced the first three guests of HenshinCon 2016. Aside from two returning Super Sentai actors, another Super Sentai actress is confirmed to be in the event as well.

Returning for next year's HenshinCon are: Hikari Sentai Maskman's Ryosuke Kaizu who plays Takeru/Red Mask, and Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman's Kei Shindachiya who plays Ken Hoshikawa/Five Blue. Joining them is Ms. Michiko Makino, best known for her role as Choudenshi Bioman's Hikaru/Pink Five!

But that's not all, the site also announced that four tokusatsu heroes will appear in the event. To put it simply, Ms. Makino is not the only one joining Mr. Kaizu and Mr. Shindachiya in the event! Who is this actor? That is for us to find out in the near future!

HenshinCon 2016 will happen this March 2016. Details such as the price and event dates is yet to be announced.

Kamen Rider Ghost Cast, Additional Staff Members Revealed

The full cast of Kamen Rider Ghost was unveiled in a recent press conference, announcing that newcomer Shun Nishime will play the titular protagonist, Takeru Tenkuuji aka Kamen Rider Ghost!

That being said, more information about the cast was also revealed in the show's official TV-Asahi website:

The hero of the story and the heir of the Tenkuuji Temple, whose father was a ghost hunter before he died 10 years ago. A bring, carefree, and reckless youth who will not go against his beliefs. Akari Tsukimura (played by Hikaru Osawa)
The show's main heroine and Takeru's childhood friend who cares for him like her own brother. A girl who believes that there's a scientific explanation for everything, she attends university as a physics major. This science major helps Takeru in his ghost hunting while trying to disprove his paranormal and supernatural beliefs.

Makoto Fukami aka Kamen Rider Spectre (played by Ryosuke Yamamoto)
He is another Kamen Rider who also collects Ghost Eyecons for an unknown purpose. Takeru's opposite and rival, he is cool, rational and an expert in combat.

Onari (played by Takayuki Yanagi)
The head priest of the Tenkuuji Temple who watches Takeru over respect for his father Ryu and watches him grow as a ghost hunter. A spirit theorist, he doesn't get along well with the scientific Akari all the time. Even if he's serious, he's a fun guy who usually sets up the mood.

Alan (played by Hayato Isomura)
Also a man collecting Ghost Eyecons alongside with the mysterious man, he is not under him. The two seem to be equals and the reason why he collects Ghost Eyecons is shrouded in mystery.

Hermit (played by Naoto Takenaka)
The man who revived Takeru, he prefers to be called "uncle". Knowing that Takeru owns a Ghost Eyecon, he teaches him how to "fight against destiny" and gives him the power to become a Kamen Rider. Seemingly an innocent man, the hermit seems to know everything but usually ends up disappearing in conveniently at the worst times.

Mysterious Man (played by Morishita Yoshiyuki)
The man who summoned the Ganma monsters, he collects Ghost Eyecons for some unknown reason. He is also one of the few people who knows its secrets.

Aside from the cast revealed in the press conference, the official Kamen Rider Ghost Toei website also revealed some more cast information about the series:

Lastly, Kishidan will perform the show's opening theme.

Kamen Rider Drive: Chief Honganji Transforms Into a Kamen Rider?!

In a report by Sports Hochi, it is revealed that actor Tsurutaro Kataoka, who plays Special Unit Chief Jun Honganji will transform into a Kamen Rider!

The actor who just turned 60 while filming Kamen Rider Drive will be the franchise's oldest Kamen Rider based on their debut. In the series, Chief Honganji's Rider transformation was made possible thanks to Rinna's Mass-Produced Mach Drivers. That being said, he decides to call himself Kamen Rider Jun.

Kamen Rider Jun's debut will happen on the show's 44th episode, which will air on August 30th.

Power Rangers Dino Charge Episode Guide

Here's the guide of all of the Power Rangers Dino Charge episodes that will air in the future. Take note, this post will be constantly updated once new info pops out.

Episode 1 - Powers From The Past (2/7)
Millions of years after the mysterious and powerful Energems were entrusted to the now extinct dinosaurs for protection from a ruthless bounty hunter, a pair of courageous teens find themselves in possession of two of these long lost precious artifacts, and come face to face with a monster who will do everything in his power to steal them for himself.

Episode 2 - Past, Present and Fusion (2/14)
A new teen finds his own Energem and joins Tyler and Shelby on their pilgrimage to the Dinosaur Museum, where they learn they are a part of the elite team called the Power Rangers. They are entrusted with protecting the Energems from a fierce bounty hunter named Sledge, who has returned and is more determined than ever to capture the Energems for himself.

Episode 3 - A Fools Hour (2/21)
Sledge arrives on Earth to confront Keeper and the Rangers. He gives them a deadline to return the Energems, but coming up with a plan to fight back gets compromised when Tyler goes after Fury on his own. Can the Rangers figure out how to work as a team?

Episode 4 - Return Of The Caveman (2/28)
Chase tries to help Koda adapt to modern day technology after he struggles to learn how to ride their new high tech Dino Cycles. But when they are caged in a cave by one of Sledge's monsters, Koda must rely on his caveman instincts to escape and save his friend.

Episode 5 - Breaking Black (3/7/15)
When a Maori fortune teller asks Chase for help guarding her shop from a potential thief, Chase is happy to help, but falls under the spell of Sledge's latest monster, Spellbinder. The rest of the Rangers must quickly figure out how to help break Spellbinder's hold on Chase before their friend is lost to them forever.

Episode 6 - The Tooth Hurts (3/14/15)
When faced with the fast-firing Cavity monster, Riley thinks Chase doesn't take the threat seriously, but soon learns that Chase simply has a different approach.

Episode 7 - Let Sleeping Zords Lie (3/21/15)
When Sledge's monster stings the Ankylo Zord, Shelby must use her advanced dino knowledge to tame the wild beast.

Episode 8 - Double Ranger, Double Danger (4/4/15)
When clone Rangers steal the Rangers' irreplaceable tracking device, Fury learns the location of the powerful Ptera Zord.

Episode 9 – When Logic Fails (8/29/15)
The Maze monster, working with Fury, captures the Rangers until Riley's logical mind helps break them free. But the delay has allowed Fury time to head toward the Ptera Zord.

Episode 10 – The Royal Rangers (9/5/15)
Tyler and Shelby pose as the Prince and Princess to discover the Gold Energem among the exhibits that the country of Zandar gave as a loan. Fury tries to bring down a trap to regain control of the Ptera Zord.

Episode 11 (9/12/15)
Koda and the Rangers battle to save an arrogant prince and the Gold Energem.

Episode 12 (9/19/15)
The Rangers must demonstrate their value to persuade their latest ally, the Gold Ranger, but find they do not have the willpower to do so when one of Sledge's monsters steals their courage.

Episode 13 (9/26/15)
A fun rivalry between Tyler and Ivan becomes a problem when it interferes with the efforts of the Rangers to find and defuse a bomb planted by Sledge's monsters.

Episode 14
Chase mocks Shelby for a pop band she wants to see in New Zealand. But they are thrown into action when a monster attack leaves three Rangers buried underground.

Episode 15
Discovering the Graphite Energem, Prince Philip decides to be generous towards the poor to show that he is worthy. But he will have to show other qualities to prove he deserves to be a Power Ranger.

Episode 16
Sledge sends Shearfear, a monster capable of cutting the Rangers’ ties of friendship, but struggles to cut the bond of Koda’s ingenuity.

Attack on Titan Movie Review

Attack on Titan is the first part of a two-part film based on Hajime Isayama's popular manga series of the same name. Directed by Shinji Higuchi (Gamera), the film follows humanity's struggle to fight beings known as Titans and by the looks of it, they are in a losing battle.

The film opens with a premise that 100 years ago, beings known as Titans started attacking humanity and to prevent this threat, humanity build giant walls to protect themselves from these creatures. In the present, Eren and his friends are interested in exploring the world outside the wall but that all changed when the Titans attack and devoured the population and occupied their lands. Two years later, now a member of the Survey Corps, Eren and his friends want to reclaim the lands occupied by the Titans but can they make it with limited explosives and them being amateurs with the usage of the 3D Maneuver Gear?

Before I start this review, there is one thing I need to let out. This is an adaptation of an on-going comic book series published in a monthly basis. Put emphasis on the word adaptation. If the only reason why you hate this film is because it didn't follow the manga that closely, congratulations, now you understand how Western comic book fans feel when the movie or TV adaptation of their favorite comic doesn't follow the comic book canon. Heck, the film feels more like how Hollywood will usually handle a comic book property! They will get the essence and key elements of the material and adapt it.

To put it simply, you can't cram all of the exposition and detail of the first 13 episodes of the anime in under one hour and 30 minutes, that's why they need to get the best aspects of the material, with the author's permission of course, and make an enjoyable film. To put it simply, the division of the military is not that clear, the number of walls built were not explored and of course, the technology. Speaking of which, another thing that was pointed out prior to the release of the film is that it will differ from the source material for a lot of good reasons.

In an interview, the writer of the film stated that because all the cast members are Japanese, it doesn't make sense to keep the European setting; hence a lot of changes were made to suit this limitation. To put it simply, that's the reason why some fan favorite characters didn't appear and the existence of original characters and how said characters fill in the roles of those fan fave characters. So yeah, that's the reason why the film pretty much takes place in post apocalyptic Japan and not in some unnamed European country that looks and feels like ancient Germany.

Now that I am done ranting about it being different from the source material, it's time for me to talk about the film itself and how it stands on its own. I enjoyed the film. Aside from reading some interviews of the film's staff, I also read some reviews of the film and I got to say, all I receive is mixed signals. Some reviews say it's good, some say it's decent, and some say that it's a really bad film. To put it simply, I have low expectations for the film both as a fan of the source material and as a movie goer. After watching the film, I realized that I should not compare it to the source material and I should watch it on how I watch my American superhero movies and TV shows, on its own merits. What I got is one of the best kaiju movies in recent years.

I mean seriously, the way the film was shot felt like I was watching my weekly dose of Japanese superhero shows or those old monster movies with a higher budget and better special effects. The makeup of the Titans was amazing and the way they differentiate the regular Titans with the Titan Shifters tells how much detail they put into with the suits and makeup alone. The first time I saw the Titans on screen, I both got chills and laugh on how ridiculous some of them look... just like in the anime!

Unlike my usual Japanese superhero shows, it's more bloody and it focuses more on the human casualties and the terror these beings struck on mankind... just like in the anime! Even though the Titan action in the film is really great, there is one aspect of the source material that the film fails to deliver, the characters. Without spoiling anything, there were a lot of changes made when it comes to their characters. Some of the changes made include some of their character motivations and how they ended up in that state differs from the source material. Even if that's the case, the film gets the bare essentials of what makes these characters interesting in the first place.

As I mentioned earlier, the film introduced some original characters, these new characters serve two functions: early casualties and replacements for seriously Western sounding characters with some character tweaks made to make them different from the character they replaced. A perfect example would by Shikishima, Levi's replacement in the film. Shikishima is basically Levi in every aspect except for a couple of things. Unlike Levi, he's tall, a bit more aloof and as what the film implied, is totally working for the government and has no plans to overthrow them what so ever.

As for the new characters whose sole purpose is to be casualties in this fight against Titans, they were... okay. Some of those characters I actually cared about while some of them felt like they were just there for the sake of seeing them die on screen. Even if some of them briefly appeared on screen, I was emotionally invested on those characters that I actually cared about. Why they failed with the characters? Thanks to the changes made to some of them, the interesting character dynamics between said characters were changed.

Yes, these characters feel like the ones from the source material, but it feels like these characters are missing some element that made them great in the first place. The only thing I can give away is that there are a lot of major changes when it comes to the Eren, Mikasa, and Armin dynamic in this film. The only time we witness the said dynamic is at the opening act and the final act of the film. The middle feels like this dynamic didn't exist at all.

Speaking of things that went missing, the film barely has any 3D Maneuver Gear action. Yes, we see some of it in the film, and it captured the spirit and thrill on how we see it in the anime, but we barely see the Survey Corps use it in battle. As what the film implied, they were barely trained to use these weapons to combat the Titans. They know how to kill one using these weapons but it feels like they kinda forgot how to use it once they meet the Titans. Heck, the film features a lot of shots of them running away from Titans while they are wearing the gear, but only a few shots of them using it to run away from them. It's like the film forgot that all those who are wearing the gear are basically steam punk Spider-Men.

Overall, Attack on Titan is a really fun film and if you are not a fan of franchise, you will definitely get engaged with the film's fight scenes and the world that it setup. But if you are a fan of the series, you will have some mixed feelings about the film. Again, this is an adaptation of Hajime Isayama's manga, not a live-action shot by shot remake of the anime. If that's the case then, you should just watch the anime and not watch the movie. Again, how can you cram over 260 minutes worth of content in under 90 minutes?

Considering that the best part about this film are the Titan scenes and how they all look like as well as how they terrorized the humans, it gave me high hopes on Toho's new Godzilla film that will air premiere next year, which will be of course, directed by the guy who directed this film. Lastly, will I watch the sequel, which will air next month? I got to say, I had a great time watching this film, so yeah, I will watch the second film.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie's Philippine Premiere Date Announced

SM Cinema officially announced that Boruto: Naruto the Movie will premiere in this Philippines this September 9th, exclusively on their cinema chain.

Several years after the Fourth Shinobi World War, Naruto Uzumaki has become the Seventh Hokage of Konohagakure, which has grown into a large city with advanced technology, and the five ninja countries are at peace. However, Naruto is overwhelmed with the responsibilities of being Hokage and rarely spends time with his wife, Hinata and their children. In the film, Eiji Tomari (played by Mackenyu), Shinnosuke's son from the future arrives at the present to warm Team Drive about a cataclysmic event triggered by the Drive Driver. That being said, he is chased by the mysterious Dark Drive who also arrives in present.

Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future is directed by Takayuki Shibasaki and is set to premiere on August 8th.

Bandai Tamashii Nations posted the official images of the Meishou Movie Realization Ronin Boba Fett. This figure reimagines the well-known intergalactic bounty hunter into a samurai without a master.

Based on the bounty hunter that first appeared in Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, this figure is designed by Takayuki Takeya, who also designed the other two entries of this toyline.

The figure 170mm stands comes with a katana, his blaster rifle, a set of weapons, and a set of interchangeable hands. Things to note about this figure is that it has an adjustable eyepiece and that the rocket part in his backpack can be removed. This item cost 9,504 yen and is set for a November release.

Another Kamen Rider Ghost actor rumor has surfaced online, which states that another actor is up and running to play the lead character, Takeru Tenkuuji/Ghost.

The fourth rumored actor to play the lead hero is Ryosuke Yamamoto (Say 'I love you'), a finalist of the 22nd Junon Super Boy contest. In addition, he is also a member of the unit Men on Style, in which four of its members ended up playing heroes. These members are: Souta Fukushi (Kamen Rider Fourze), Tasuku Nagase (Kamen Rider Beast), Ryo Ryusei (KyoryuRed) & Jingi Irie (Kikaider).

Boruto: Naruto the Movie debuted last weekend and the film earned a total of 680,134,700 yen in its first three days, a new record on any Naruto film.

The film debuted at #3 in the Japanese box office and it was screened in 268 screens, selling a total of 516,146 tickets. That being said, it outperformed The Last: Naruto the Movie by 115.1% as of last Sunday. The Last: Naruto the Movie earned a total of 2 billing yen at the end of its run.

Ninninger's Gashadokuro Yo-Shuriken Toy Price, Release Date Unveiled

The Premium Bandai shop has unveiled the official images of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger's Gashadokuro Yo-Shuriken toy.

As what we have previously reported, this item is compatible with the DX Youkai Hammer and features phrases spoken by Kyuuemon, Masakage, and Ariake. In the TV series, Kyuuemon uses this Yo-Shuriken will summon a giant Gashadokuro in battle.

Pre-orders for this item will start on September 24th. This item cost 2,700 yen and is set for a December release.
