These photos shows what would be known as the biggest oil spills in the history, the Gulf War in 1991. It's the largest accidental oil spill in history happened at Persian Gulf in 1991 where it place 240 million gallons of oil into the ocean close to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Persian Gulf, 1991. Burning flame of ship

Persian Gulf, 1991. Oils spills

It happened when many tankers, port facilities, and storage tanks were destroyed throughout war operations.

The second largest is the blowout of the Ixtoc I exploratory well offshore Mexico in 1979. Mexico recorded the second largest accidental oil spill, gushed one hundred forty million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil spills Gulf Mexico, cleaning the mess

In comparison, the wreck of the Exxon Valdez tanker in 1989 which spilled eleven million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound offshore Alaska, and ranks fifty-third on the list of oil spills involving over ten million gallons.

The number of enormous spills which is over 206,500 gallons averaged 24.1 per year from years 1970 to 1979. However the number decreased to 6.9 per year from the year 1990 till 2000.
(Part 2)

One study, reported this on December 2001, was administrated
by Stephen K. Brown and Min Cheng of Australia's Commonwealth Scientific &
Industrial analysis Organization (CSIRO). The reading took a glance at VOCs in
3 new 1998 vehicles by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis of air
samples taken from the vehicles once that they had been sealed for many hours.
The vehicles were re sampled at numerous intervals for up to 2 years.

The CSIRO researchers detected thirty to forty VOCs inside
the cars, the foremost prevalent being toluene, acetone, xylenes, styrene,
1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, varied C5 to C12 alkanes, ethylbenzene, and ethylene
glycol butyl ether. The total VOC concentrations for the cars were initially as
high as sixty four mg per m3 of air.

As a contrast, the report notes that total VOCs in the
indoor air of new buildings is on average 20 to 40 mg per m3, while established
buildings have VOC levels generally below 1 mg per m3. Negative sensory
effects--headaches; drowsiness; nausea; respiratory distress; and eye, nose,
and throat irritation--are likely to occur at concentrations above about 10 mg
per m3, according to the report.

The total VOC concentrations within the cars fell off
exponentially over time, the CSIRO researchers note, reaching regarding 1.5 mg
per m3 once six months. For example two cars tested after 2 years had 0.4 mg
per m3 of total VOCs. Outdoors air measured next to the cars was regarding 0.1
mg per m3. There is also a temperature dependence to the VOC level: when the
temperature rises within the automotive, thus will the overall VOC
concentration.

Not all of the VOCs are essentially associated with original
materials within the passenger compartment, the CSIRO report points out.
Benzene and alternative compounds from fuel or exhaust and siloxanes from
cleaning product will contribute considerably to total VOCs.

CSIRO is seeing developing an eco air label to assist
customers opt for environmentally friendlier environments--such as cars,
airplanes, offices, and homes--that have probably healthier indoor air. Indeed,
automakers attempt to eliminate components that offer off high levels of VOCs.

The consequence of those determinations is that some new
cars simply do not smell like new cars anymore. However therein lies the
twisted irony of human nature. A bunch of air-freshener product with new
automotive scent are designed to stay cars smelling showroom contemporary
indefinitely. None of those product, sold at automotive washes and automotive
supply stores, has an ingredient list on the label--as "household
product," ingredient labels are not required.

(Part 1)

There's one thing concerning the smell of a new automobile where for some people, the leathery, plasticky aroma that hits you once you
slide behind the wheel may be a pleasurable scent, seductive smells or even
perhaps addictive. On the other hand, for some people the smell
is stinking, especially for somebody who has an acute chemical sensitivity.

What exactly provides rise to new automotive smell? The explanation,
not stunning to chemists, could be a complicated mixture of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs), primarily alkanes and substituted benzenes in conjunction
with many aldehydes and ketones.

Almost each solid surface inside a vehicle could be materials
made from fabric or plastic that's held along partly with adhesives and
sealers. Outgassing of residual solvents and different chemicals from these
materials results in a dilute ocean of VOCs floating around the
passenger compartment. An equivalent effect also happening to brand new airplanes, homes,
and offices.

Every automobile producer has its
own commonplace for total VOCs in cars, one automobile company spokesman says,
however he's unaware of any government standards regulating air quality within
new vehicles.

Separate elements of new automobile smell are not harmful, however the
cumulative effects of long-term exposure to the overall mixture of VOCs might
create health issues. Luckily, high concentrations of those compounds quickly
dissipate simply a number of months once manufacture. Although VOC
concentrations will reach unhealthy levels during a closed vehicle on a heat
day, the air-exchange rate during an automobile is high when somebody opens a
door, rolls down a window, or activates the air conditioner.

Based on statistic estimation, the average family adds 60
plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store.

In good situations, high-density polyethylene plastic bags will
take more than 20 years to degrade. However in less ideal conditions such as on
landfills or as general refuse, a bag will take more than 1,000 years to
degrade.
sack and wraps were produced where of those, 3,570,000 tons (90% of them) were throw
away. This number is almost triple the amount in 1980 (1,230,000 tons in 1980).

The very slow decomposition rate of plastic luggage leaves
them to drift on the ocean for uncountable years. In line with Algalita Marine
analysis Foundation, these plastic luggage cause the death of the many marine
animals such as fish, ocean turtles, etc., each year when animals mistake them
for food.

Seabird surviving because of plastic

When plastics break down, they do not biodegrade; they
photodegrade. This implies that the secondary materials break all the way down
to smaller fragments that readily absorb toxins. They then further contaminate
soil, waterways, and animals upon digestion.

Geographic News September 2, 2003. Note that this information was in the year

Tomatoes are currently the foremost profitable crop in
Mexico. Though the total number of acres of coffee is much greater than the
acreage of organic (cherry) tomatoes, it realize a higher turnover than the
harvest of coffee beans.

The dry space of Baja California forms the core of the
organic agriculture sector. In 2010 cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, basil and
different tiny crops combined, realized a turnover of roughly thirty million
greenbacks. However, the organic coffee in Chiapas solely brought in thirteen
million dollar in exchange.

According to the figures within the latest publication of
Mexican Statistics Agency INEGI: ‘The Mexican Food Sector in 2011’. Since 1996
there has been an annual increase within the total organic acreage of on
average quite seventeen percent, from 18,331 hectares fifteen years ago to well
over 326 thousand hectares in 2008. In that very same amount, the amount of
organic growers increased tenfold, to one hundred twenty five thousand.

Coffee was the primary crop that was aspiringly transformed
to cultivation without chemical fertilizer and pesticides. In 2010, Mexico had
well over fifteen thousand hectares of organic coffee. Cherry tomatoes and
basil followed at a reserve with 648 and 366 hectares respectively.

The Mexican organic agriculture of standard tomatoes is fanciful.
In 2008 the North American country harvested over 20 thousand tonnes of organic
tomatoes. Nevertheless, in 2010 this range dropped to only over ten thousand
tonnes. However, the cherry tomato is doing nice and showing a gentle growth.
In 2010, Mexico yielded a complete harvest of thirteen thousand tonnes.

The issue of artificial eggs from China have recently
heated. It still silent, China who is famous for its expertise to produce
imitations once again has produced a new innovative to produce beef of pork.

Local media reported that beef flavoring extracts are sold
in Shanghai and is used in the restaurant to make a fake beef. Cooking raw pork
with additives for 90 minutes can give a sense of pork to beef. Here is the
process of creating an artificial beef for 90minutes:

They used the chemical to process the pork to fake beef

This product has become very popular in a small Chinese
restaurant in Hefei, Fujian, Jianxi and other places around the country,
especially for beef which are two times more expensive than pork. Beef is sold
at about 20 yuan, while the cost of pork is only 10 yuan. Some restaurant
owners tend to buy a liter of "beef extract" for making artificial
meat and use it to maximize their profits.

New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) warns people not
to consume all the seeds that can be found in Chinese green tea. This product
is sold under various names such as Heng Ming Tea Canton love pea.

The tea was pulled from the shelves when the Inspector found
that the contents did not match what was written in components. It contained
toxic pods not removed. Product recalls now withdrawn from sale by the
importer. Please check the video for more details.

China has been popular with anything copy and produces
where they don’t care anything on copyright or laws. Money is everything for Chinese
and in order to make more money they are thinking of faking on almost anything
in their life. Because fake products make much money than the real one, we can
see so many Chinese goods and products are being produce to look good from
outside where the reality of it you have to wait and see.

Nowadays, they are producing fake eggs, a product anybody
doesn’t like to think of to fake it. These
are methods how we could test whether the egg at your home is fake egg or not.

1. After cracking the fake egg, the white and yolk will
mix together quickly.

2. Fake eggs have slightly shinier shells than real ones.

3. The shells of the fake eggs feel slightly rougher.

4. You will hear sloshing sounds when you shake a fake
egg as liquid will flow from the solid agent.

5. Real eggs smell like raw meat.

6. Tapping a real egg lightly will generate a crisp sound
when compared to a fake egg.

7. When frying a fake egg, the yolk will spread without
being touched.

Fake egg shells are reportedly made of calcium carbonate,
paraffin wax and gypsum powder. The counterfeit egg yolk and white are said to
be made of sodium alginate, alum, gelatin, edible calcium chloride, benzoic
acid, water and food colouring.

By inserting organic polymers long chains of carbon-based
molecules in plastic you produce an organic photovoltaic cell, that till
currently haven't had a lot of business success. With an operating principle
just like photosynthesis in inexperienced plants, organic photovoltaic cells
are low-cost to provide compared to silicon solar cells, however have quite a low potency. This can be one thing that the University of Cambridge is about
to amend.

The university team has reportedly return up with a commercial
model that mixes efficiency enhancements, an extended lifespan, low-cost (and
low-toxicity) raw materials, a cheap producing method, and a product line that
focuses on economies of scale and easy installation. If this could be done,
then cheaply made solar cells could be made. This will be a good alternative
for usage for poorer countries and their energy demands.

The university’s Cavendish Laboratory and therefore the
Carbon Trust have created a joint venture company to develop organic solar PV
technology, that has been financed with a £4.5 million initial investment from
the Trust and specialty chemicals company Rhodia. Cambridge's Cavendish Labs
have reportedly fine-tuned the aptitude for fabricating large-scale plastic
electronic devices on versatile materials using roll-to-roll processes. The new
company are able to specialize in developing organic photovoltaics (OPV) on
elastic rolls, enabling them to be used a lot of readily and discretely on
buildings and doubtless alternative objects than standard rigid photovoltaic
panels.

Not only can organic photovoltaic plastic be molded for
any purpose, but it can be spray-painted on objects, be it buildings, cars or
otherwise. There are also investigations in to creating a silicon-based solar
paint, but if organic photovoltaic paint can be produced first, and more
cheaply, then it could transform the solar market. Instead of acres of solar
cells, cities could be transformed using solar plastics, not to mention the
more environmental alternative – bioplastics, which are made from waste-water
instead of petroleum.

Not solely will organic photovoltaic plastic be molded
for any purpose, however it is possible for spray-painted on any objects, be it
buildings, cars or otherwise.

There also are investigations in to making a
silicon-based solar paint, however if organic photovoltaic paint are often
created initial, and a lot of cheaply, then it may remodel the solar market. Rather
than acres of solar cells, cities may well be reworked using solar plastics, to
not mention the a lot of environmental different bioplastics, that are made of
waste-water rather than petroleum.

As oil and gas prices soar, Brazil is planning to become
a world hub for plastics made up of plant-based materials, as well as sugar
cane.

Try to imagine a plastics factory where you are most
likely seeing an industrial eyesore belching smoke and fireplace into the sky
at a city's edge. However, Dow Chemical (DOW) and different massive plastics
manufacturers have a a lot of bucolic vision of what some plants can appear in
the future, and they are heading to Brazil to create them.

The "factories" they need in mind are a lot of
like farms: A sugar cane plantation with 11-foot stubble for miles around,
surrounding a plastics plant that runs wholly on cane, emits a fraction of the
greenhouse gas spewed by standard plants, and by the way, generates enough
additional electricity to lightweight a town of five hundred thousands.

Today 9 percent of world's oil production is used in
creating plastics, that itself could be a $350 billion-a-year business. However
as oil costs rise, Brazil, a country where sugar cane ethanol already fuels
most vehicles, is attending to become a worldwide hub for organic plastics—that
is, those made of plant-based materials. Brazil's organic plastics are
typically labeled "bioplastics" since they're made of plants, however
whereas recyclable, they do not soften into the atmosphere when cast-off, like
biodegradable plastics do.

No Replacement for ancient Plastics

Brazil is already the number eight producer of
petroleum-based plastics, where can soon be the biggest producer of organic
ones, in step with Dow and Braskem. Each firms say they've mastered
technologies to show sugar cane into polyethylene, the foremost common plastic.
By 2012, they targeted 10% of Brazil's plastic can come back from cane rather
than petroleum.

To be certain, the bioplastics business will not displace
traditional plastics anytime soon. Basically the 1.2 billion pounds of organic
plastic that Dow and Braskem commit to manufacture in Brazil by 2012 can meet
less than one percent of world plastic demand, that itself is growing by five
percent a year. However each firms, in conjunction with Belgium's Solvay
(SOLB.br) and Brazil's Petrobras (PBR), hope to make additional such plants
within the country.

The drive for substitute plastics is being fuelled by oil
costs, eco-minded shoppers, and therefore the economic success of oil
substitutes like Brazilian ethanol. Organic plastics are around for ages,
however high prices and pesky options in a number of them—such as a bent to
soften when exposed to low heat—meant they posed very little threat to the petro
plastics that are employed in everything from Zip-Lock luggage to Barbie dolls
and condoms.

Any agriculture activities are depend on the soil's health and thus by feeding your soil with homemade fertilizers before planting then you'll be giving your plants the best probability of success as well as encourage robust growth.

You'll even be avoiding adding doubtless dangerous chemicals to your soil and saving cash in the process. Organic garden fertilizer is a straightforward to make and cheaper than industrial or chemical fertilizers as you'll be able to build it from waste that you generate daily around your home.
The recommendation period is twice a year for you to treat your soil, especially in areas where you grow vegetables or annual plants, that deplete the soil of nutrients earlier.

Animal based fertilizer
Animal based fertilizer could be made from animal manure that has been well rotted or decomposed. You have various options to use such as horse, chicken, cow or sheep manure. Fertilizer created by this way can add structure and heat to your soil.
Once the manure has rotted down and decomposed you'll be able to either dig directly into the soil or use a liquid type of compost by pouring water through your fertilizer and collecting the mixture. However, it’s necessary to confirm your fertilizer is well combined with the soil for least three weeks prior to planting, to confirm it's well integrated.

Plant based fertilizer
Plant fertilizers are most likely easier to make than animal based fertilizers as they use produce and scraps from around the home. Plant based fertilizers embody hand-crafted compost, worm fertilizers and green manure.

Worm fertilizers are easily created using industrial worm farms that you'll be able to get from your native garden center, or online. This will be a good project if you have children and the ensuing fertilizer and worm ‘tea’ is extremely useful for your garden.
Worm fertilizer is five times more nutritious than the surrounding soil where it requires very little effort. You could feed your worm farm with green waste from your home, and you'll be able to also embody damp newspaper and different organic matter.

Growing “green manure” is extremely useful for your soil if you have the patience to attend for it to grow. Green manure may be a nitrogen fixing crop such as clover or lupin that you simply grow in your soil, then cut and dig in. They shall feed the soil as it breaks down.

Making your own compost
Organic compost is straightforward to make, satisfying and value effective, and is one of the best ways in which to feed your soil organically. Compost is the result of green waste that has been decomposed. Compost improves the soil by returning nutrients, assisting to retain water and improving the structure of the soil. Further, it also helps soil aeration and drainage by allowing the soil to ‘breathe’.
You can build compost using compost bin, or build your own bin from chicken wire or wood. Place your compost bin at a sheltered space, but not the place that's shady or cool.
You can use a spread of household green waste in your compost such as vegetable scraps, egg shells, grass clippings and leaves. You also could add straw or hay to assist improving the structure. However, never embody grease, bones or meat scraps in your soil as they will attract vermin.
Try to keep your compost pile approximately three feet high, and turn it every number of weeks to confirm smart ventilation. Based on your climate, the compost is ready between 1 to 6 months after you begin.

When is it ready?
How do you know that the compost that you make are ready or is prepared? Compost that's ready to be used is crumbly, or a dark, rich brown or black in color. It's a definite, sweet smell after you crumble it in your hands.

The compost should not smell. If you compost pile smells then something is not in balance; you may have too much water or not enough air in your pile. This will usually be fastened by forking over and mixing your compost.

By creating your own range of organic fertilizers at home you not solely save money, you recognize specifically what is going into your soil, and so into your plants. And what will be more satisfying than that?

We consume millions of cup every day where normally the waste from coffee we thrown it away. Except if we use the instant coffee than no more waste to be thrown. However, in lots of cases, these coffee waste or used coffee grounds are binned, tossed in the garbage or washed down the sink.

Most of the coffee shops throw away the waste, where if you have any ideas to collect it you could use it as fertilizer for free.

Used coffee grounds contain useful amounts of phosphorus and potassium are a low-level source of nitrogen and also contain minor amounts of calcium, magnesium, copper, and other trace minerals, carbohydrates, sugars, some vitamins as well as some caffeine.

Coffee grounds are not acidic as most of people claim it to be. The pH of used coffee grounds is approximately 6.8 to 6.9, with a significant amount of buffer capacity - adding the coffee to either acidic or basic solutions drove both towards neutral pH.

How to use it?

One of the best methods is to compost the used coffee ground and based on few results it shows best result when it was being composed.

However if you don’t have those tools for your garden, you also could mix it with soil. Another alternative way is to make it as liquid fertilizer by mixing it with water. You have to test and make some experiment on your plant to know the suitable amount for it. No right formula for it since every different place has different soil and different pH. Good luck

A group of researchers from the University of Alicante (Spain) present the results of a pilot project where fly larvae are used to reduce animal feces and manure in a sustainable manner.

The research group Bionomics, Systematics and Applied Research in insects, coordinated by Professor Santos Rojo, conducts the research and development work of this project. With the company Flysoil SL, they have managed to produce at industrial scale the Hermetia illucens fly. It is a species of tropical origin but naturalized in the Mediterranean region since the 1960's and their larvae have a natural ability to feed on organic matter from different sources, including waste.

The researchers selected, from established colonies of flies on the University premises, the most effective varieties for this purpose. During the past two years, they have carried out tests on animal excrements from zoos. Specifically, researchers have just presented the results of a study at the pilot plant designed at Terra Natura Benidorm where fly larvae have processed and removed about 90% of the organic waste produced by animals in the park. The remaining 10% of organic matter was converted into organic compost.

The Benidorm plant is divided in two: the biofactory where flies breed and where the eggs hatch and the biodigester where the larvae feed on organic matter. When the larvae reach a certain size, they are separated from the waste and the biomass is processed to obtain other economically valuable and reusable products. Thus, in addition to organic fertilizer, larval biomass can be used as raw material of other valuable by-products ranging from biodiesel or bio-components of pharmaceutical interest, to its use in animal feed such as aquaculture.

Currently, the 20 million larvae of the plant are able to ingest a ton of waste per day which shows that this technology is much more effective and faster than other conventional techniques of traditional composting and vermicomposting, which removes the residue with earthworms.

'An important part of the technological basis for this work comes from the LIFE-Environment Ecodiptera project, scientifically coordinated by the University of Alicante and focused on the biodegradation of pig manure. However, our research group has developed protocols for breeding and selection of different species that allow the application of this innovative technology to a variety of waste and organic by-products from various sources (food and agriculture industry, meat, catering waste...)' explains Professor Rojo.
