Drinking coffee like a Latino!

Today, we want to take you on a trip around Latin America and show you the different ways Latinos drink their coffee.

Coffee is a huge part of Latin America’s culture with most of the world’s coffee production coming
from the region. There is no doubt that Latinos know a thing or two about the humble bean.

The coffee bean arrived in South America in the early 1700’s, landing in Dutch Guyana first, making its way to Brazil a few years later. The territory of Santo Domingo (now Hispaniola, comprising Haiti and the Dominican Republic) saw coffee cultivated from 1734, and by 1788 it supplied half the world’s coffee.

Coffee had a major influence on the geography of Latin America. The French colonial plantations relied heavily on African slave laborers. However, the dreadful conditions that the slaves worked in on coffee plantations were a factor in the soon-to-follow Haitian Revolution. The coffee industry never fully recovered there. In 1784 missionaries brought the first seeds to Venezuela from Brazil while the Colombian seeds came via the French Antilles.

Here are some ways Latinos Drink Coffee:

Cortadito (Cuba)

A cortado is an espresso cut with a small amount of warm milk. The word cortado is the past participle of the Spanish verb cortar (to cut). In Spanish-speaking countries, a cortado is similar to the Italian caffè macchiato, where a small amount of warm milk is added to “cut” the espresso. In the United States, the ratio of milk to coffee is between 1:1 and 1:2, and the milk is added after the espresso.

Café Olla (Mexico)

Café de olla (lit. pot coffee) is a traditional way to prepare coffee in Mexico. This drink is traditionally prepared in earthen clay pots, some made by artisans. The distinct flavor of Café de olla is derived from cinnamon and piloncillo. This type of coffee is principally consumed in cold climates and in rural areas.

Tinto (Colombia)

Colombian coffee is known for its quality and distinct flavor. Though much of the world’s quality coffee beans come from Colombia, many Colombians commonly drink instant coffee rather than brewed. It is popularly consumed as a “tinto”, meaning black with sugar or panela on the side, or as café con leche, which is a preparation of half coffee and half heated milk.

Café con Leche (Latin America)

Café con leche (Spanish: “coffee with milk”) is a Spanish white coffee beverage. It is somewhat more similar to the Italian cafe latte (or the Anglo version, latte) than to the French café au lait. A latte, however, is made with espresso. Café con leche is a coffee beverage consisting of strong or bold coffee (such as OG Gourmet Black Coffee) mixed with scalded milk in approximately a 1:1 ratio. Sugar or sweetener is added according to taste. The beverage is extremely common in Spain, in many Latin American countries, the Philippines and communities around the world.

How do you know it meets your needs?
Well, first take a look at how many emails it allows you to send per month, is there a subscriber limit and how well it integrates with social media, blogs and other internet tools.

The Best BBQ Sauce Recipe

The holidays may be over, and the new year already in full swing. But we’re still flipping through the OG Family Holiday Cookbook 2014, which is full of recipes that are great for you and the entire family year-round.

One of our favorites is the Black Noir Coffee Barbecue Steak Sauce recipe
that was submitted by Michael Zemla of Rochester, New York. Of course, we think it’s the BEST. BBQ SAUCE. EVER. That may have something to do with the fact that it contains our favorite ingredient — coffee. Michael’s recipe uses a cup of OG coffee to help flavor this sauce — which is perfect as a condiment for all your favorite roasted meats.

We’re going to be sure to always have a batch of this on hand for the next time we roast some chicken in the oven or throw some ribs on the BBQ. Here’s how it’s done:
Black Noir Coffee Barbecue Steak Sauce

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup brewed Organo Gold Black / Noir Coffee
1 cup ketchup
3⁄4 cup packed brown sugar
1⁄2 cup apple cider vinegar
1⁄2 cup onion diced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 Tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
1-2 Tbsp chili powder (depending on taste)

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a medium saucepan stir all the ingredients until well combined. Cook in medium heat until boiling.

2. Reduce heat to low and allow simmering for about 40 minutes until all ingredients and flavors have been incorporated and sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.

3. Remove from heat and let cool before serving as a side dip for all kinds of meat.

Tip: You can coat steaks with a generous amount of this delicious OG Coffee Barbecue sauce, then simply cook the meat to your liking in the oven or on the BBQ.

How OG Cracked the Secret of Spores

We talk a lot about the greatness of Ganoderma here at Organo Gold — because it is the incredible substance that’s at the core of all of our products. But it’s the spores that are at the core of the greatness of Ganoderma.

We have mentioned how Organo Gold will only use Ganoderma that has been cultivated the old-fashioned way — outside in nature, as it has grown for thousands of years. Many less scrupulous manufacturers use plastic-bag cultivated Ganoderma. The plastic bag grown variety is so far removed from the natural log-harvested environment, and is actually harvested three times a year, which means it doesn’t go through its natural one year growth cycle.

Organo Gold Introducing Latte Artist Kohei Matsuno

We are huge fans of latte art here at Organo Gold, so we are very excited to be collaborating with renowned Japanese latte artist Kohei Matsuno. Matsuno’s amazing 3D latte creations have gained him attention the world over. Using only a spoon and a toothpick, Matsuno creates adorable foam creatures, such as kittens that look almost too cute to eat.

Matsuno started using two dimensional latte art to impress customers at the Osaka restaurant where we worked. But when latte art became popular, he decided to up his game and create more than just portraits, and moved into the 3D realm. His ingenious 3D foam figures have made him one of the most popular latte artists in Japan, and now across the world.

We spoke to Matsuno about his craft, his favorite OG products, and much more!

How do you come up with new ideas for your latte artworks?

Things that interest me catch my attention naturally, whenever and wherever. I try to replicate that with latte art as soon as I get home, which I find very exciting.

What are your favorite designs to work on?

It’s very difficult to choose — I tend to like works with a realistic touch, like animals. But I’m also good at portraits.

What are your favorite OG products?

They’re all tasty, but I especially like the sweet ones — so if I had to choose my favorite, it would be OG Gourmet Café Mocha. My second favorite is the OG Gourmet Black Coffee — I was really surprised to hear that it contains Ganoderma.

In the last 2 articles we talked about how using hashtags is a best practice when it comes to social media use. What many don’t know is how to properly use hashtags to expand their reach and join group conversations.

First, let’s define what a hashtag actually is.

Why are hashtag important to increase your message reach?

Have you ever heard of trending topics? They all start because of a hashtag – With them, you can group all the tweets happening around a conversation. The more people using your hashtag and retweeting it the further your reach will be.

For big brands it is a great way to build awareness around an event or product launch. For example, during our St. Louis Convention our #OGDreamTeam hashtag was viewed by more than 26 MILLION people! All because of the Tweets and Re-tweets from every single one of you.

2- Build credibility and position you as a product expert.

When you’re constantly talking about the same topic, people’s perception changes and they associate you with what you’re talking about. Make sure that you keep your topics consistent with the business and the products you are marketing. . This content has been carefully screened by our compliance department and corporate communications team.

3- Branding and recognition.

Social Media marketing is so successful, because it provides a unique opportunity for people to position their brand. It is one of the most-consumed beverages in the world. Many studies have examined the health effects of coffee, and whether the overall effects of coffee consumption are positive or negative has been widely disputed.

The Many Flavor Of Coffee

Coffee is a great beverage – one that’s been used over the years and also has a fair share of romanticism attached to it. But the next time you decide to gulp down some caffeine – be it to stay awake before an exam, to get back to piled up work, to improve athletic performance on the track field, or just to get a high – do it in as healthy a way as possible.

Most people when looking at the menu in a coffee house have no clue on what to order and have no idea of the difference between a cappuccino from an Espresso or an Americano. The list below will help you appreciate the menu better and also help you decide what is best for your palate –

Coffee can be had on its own as in Espresso or with added milk, lemon or brandy.

Espresso

Espresso has no milk, just pure coffee. Most traditional coffee recipes revolve around a single or double espresso shots. If you are a coffee connoisseur then you should try and learn how to make one.

It is generally made from a single 1 oz shot of coffee made with 7 Gms of finely ground coffee extracted at between 18 and 25 seconds. There are many recopies and this is small selection to choose from –

Americano (American) – This is espresso shot that is diluted to taste with hot water. The name was given to insult Americans who the Europeans believed were not up to drinking full espressos.

Black coffee: Coffee served with no milk.

Cappuccino

Cappuccino usually consists of equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk. All this makes the coffee taste more diluted and weaker. Some coffee shops will sprinkle cinnamon or flaked chocolate on top and other will add more milk than others. All shops make some variance to suit the taste of regular customers.

Dry Cappuccino

This is a regular cappuccino but without steamed milk and small amount of foam.

Flavored coffee

These are made to taste and more a local tradition. A great variety exists in different parts of the world. The flavor can be either a mix of syrups, spices (eg. cinnamon), flavorings or nutmegs that are added to the coffee and give coffee a different taste.

White coffee

A black coffee with milk added.

Cafe Latte

Cafe Latte has more milk than a cappuccino. It is one part espresso with at least three to five parts ofsteamed hot milk with a small amount of froth on top. Latte in Italian means ‘milk’, so be careful ordering one when in Rome.

Cafe au Lait

Similar to ‘ Caffe Latte’ with an equal milk to coffee in the ratio of 1:1, It is made from brewed coffee and not from espresso. The taste is milder and less intense due to it consisting 50% milk

Cafe Breva
A cappuccino made with half and half milk, instead of whole milk. The theory is that the mix gives a richer, creamier flavor. You should be aware, before trying this for yourself, that half and half is much harder to foam.

Cafe Macchiato

A shot of espresso with steamed milk added. The ratio of coffee to milk is approximately 4:1.

Cafe Latte Fredo

It is a type of cold coffee. Cafe Latte Fredo is an espresso mixed with cold milk in similar proportions as a Cafe Latte that is usually shaken well with ice in a cocktail shaker.

Cafe Mocha

Quite popular with the ladies or after dinner coffee. It is one part espresso with one part chocolate syrup and two or three parts of frothed milk. You could also ask for some whipped cream. Mocha was the popular coffee port route in the 17^th century.

Espresso con Panna

Another espresso that is topped with a small amount of whipped cream.

Espresso Granita

A kind of cocktail coffee! It is one shot of espresso that is mixed with a teaspoon of soft brown sugar and on this is added a splash of brandy. It is then frozen, crushed and served in a parfait glass with whipped cream.

Frappe

This is a cold espresso and popularly ordered in some cafes in Europe and Latin America during summer months. Generally prepared using 1-2 teaspoons of instant coffee with sugar, water and ice. The brew is next placed in a long glass with ice, and milk turning it into a big coffee milkshake.

Turkish Coffee or Known also as Greek Coffee

A ‘different preparation from the usual coffee. It is thicker and made usually made in an ‘cezve’ which is a long-handled, open, brass or copper pot. Finely ground coffee and water are boiled together to making a mix of muddy and thick coffee. Once it is made it is served in smaller cups called ‘Demitasse’ cups. Sugar and sometimes cardamom pods or spices (more Arabic) are added before it is brewed and all this is left for sometime to allow it to settle before it is sipped. In Greek coffee Chicory is used and cracked cardamom pods to Turkish coffee.

Indian (Madras) filter coffee

The popular ‘South Indian’ filter coffee is made from fresh ground, dark-roasted coffee Arabica or Peaberry beans. It is left for a few hours to drip-brew in a traditional metal coffee filter. It is served with coffee to milk ratio of usually 3:1.

Instant coffee (or soluble coffee)

These have become very popular over the years due more to convenience and some people are not even aware that there are so many other tastes to try out and when served the real coffee fail to appreciate the aroma and its taste. The coffee is available in packets as granules or soluble powder.

Hammerhead or Shot in the Dark

This is a mix of espresso and drip coffee in a regular-sized coffee cup. Many cafes rename this drink further to their own names or as per to their needs.

Iced coffee

This is a regular coffee served with ice, and sometimes milk and sugar.

Cuban coffee

Cuban coffee is a type of espresso, which is sweetened with natural brown sugar as it is being brewed. A common method for making Cuban espresso is to add few drops of the espresso to the sugar and mix vigorously till it results in a creamy, light brown paste. The remaining espresso is then added to the light brown paste creating a light brown foam layer, atop the coffee.

Arabica coffee
