]]> Lent: A Time of Spiritual Reflection

Lent, which starts on March 2, is a time of reflection before the most important holiday of the Christian
calendar. Oriental United Methodist Church has many offerings to help support you on your Lenten
journey. Ash Wednesday on March 2 offers opportunities that range from a morning meditation at the
Community Labyrinth to a formal service at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary. Sunday Services during Lent will
focus on the theme “Drink from the Fountain of Grace,” looking at how God relates to us in the most
basic of ways, including food and drink. This year, we will begin Lent with communion on March 6 and
end it with communion on Easter Sunday, exploring images of cups in scripture in between. During Lent,
Pastor Anne also will offer a recorded read-a-long from Tom Berlin’s “Reckless Love: Jesus’ Call to Love
our Neighbor” and a daily recorded devotion from “Bread and Wine: Readings for Lent and Easter.”

OUMC Lenten Calendar

Ash Wednesday, March 2 – 8-9 a.m. meditation and “Ashes to Go” at the Labyrinth; 4 p.m. service in the OUMC sanctuary; 5-6 p.m. drive-up “Ashes to Go” at St. Thomas Episcopal Church
Maundy Thursday, April 14 – 7 p.m. Last Supper Reenactment and Communion Service in the Sanctuary
Good Friday, April 15 – 7 p.m. service of “Christ’s Seven Last Words” in the Sanctuary
Easter Egg Hunt, April 16 – At 10 a.m., OUMC’s Sand Dollar Circle sponsors a communitywide Easter Egg Hunt at the church, followed by refreshments
Easter Sunday, April 17 – Communitywide sunrise service at the river and 10 a.m. Easter service in the
Sanctuary
