I created this on 6 May 2022. I made it from the traditional fortune teller.

How to fold

Step 1

Fold a Blinz fold.

Step 2

Turn the paper over and fold another Blintz fold.

Step 3

Turn the paper over again and fold the third Blintz fold.

Step 4

Open up the triangles to make them rectangles.

Step 5

Open up the corners at the back.

Step 6

Fold a flower base leaving the sides like that.

Step 7

Fold the closed corner to the half and sink fold.

Step 8

Open up the four sides and the flower is ready.

I created this on 5 May 2022. It is from hydrangea base.

How to fold

Step 1

Fold a hydrangea base.

Step 2

Arrange the petals as shown.

Step 3

Turn the paper over and fold the corners in the middle.

Step 4

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 5

Fold the outer petals as shown.

Step 6

Fold back the parts next to squares.

Step 7

Lock those parts as shown.

Fold the long petals half and unfold.

Step 9

Place those petals inside the pockets.

Step 10

Turn the paper over. It should look like this.

Step 11

Blow to the hole in the middle. You can leave it like that.

How to fold

Step 1

Fold Blintz fold, turn the paper and fold one more.

Step 2

Fold a triangular base but fold the back flaps up and sink fold the middle.

Step 3

Your shape will look like that. Turn it over and open up the flaps.

Step 4

Fold the bottom corners into the sink fold and lock flaps.

How to fold

Step 1

Fold 4x4 grids.

Step 2

Turn the paper over and fold the diagonals.

Step 3

Fold the hydrangea base.

Step 4

Arrange the petals like this.

Step 5

Collapse fold the petals.

Step 6

Open the petals as shown.

Step 7

Fold the middle corners up.

Step 8

Fold the top flaps back as shown.

Step 9

Fold them back once more.

Step 10

One unit will look like that.

You can put a small paper in the middle to change color.

Or you can make a smaller unit and put it inside.

My Ninety-Third Design: The Flower Child

I created this design on 11 March 2022. I folded it in Ukraine's colors. Flower children would symbolize peace in 1960's.

How to fold

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners to the half point.

Step 3

Sink fold the corners.

Step 4

Bring to opposite corners together.

Step 5

Fold one corner under them.

Step 6

Fold the other corner under them. The platform is ready.

The back should look like this.

Step 7

Take a square paper at least 1/4 of the previous one and fold 3x3 grids. And make book folds.

Step 8

Fold the middle thirds in half.

Step 9

Fold a triangular base.

Step 1o

Fold the corner to the line.

Step 10

Sink fold the corner.

Step 11

Shape the head by opening up one side.

Step 12

Fold the corner of the arms like that.

My Ninety-Second Design: Vefa Flower

I created this flower on 18 February 2022.

Vefa is a historical neighborhood in Istanbul, which is famous for its fermented millet drink. It also means "fidelity, loyalty" in Turkish.

How to fold the Vefa Flower

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners in half, unfold, and fold in half again.

Step 3

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 4

Turn the figure over and fold the sides to the middle as shown.

Step 5

Bring the flaps to the middle but with twisting to a side you choose.

Step 6

The back should look like that. If not, try again.

Step 7

Fold the tip of one flap to the middle.

Step 8

Fold the rest of the half to the back of the flap.

Step 9

Repeat on all sides.

Step 10

Turn the figure over and bring one pointy flap to the back and tuck into the pocket.

Step 11

Repeat on all sides.

Step 11

Open the middle parts to give it a realistic look. Don't fold the tips. Leave them round.

My Eighty-Ninth Design: Karakoy Flower

I created the Karakoy Flower on 11 December 2021. It is a couple steps more of the Galata Flower. So, I gave it the name Karakoy, which is very close to Galata.

How to fold the Karakoy Flower

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners to the halves.

Step 3

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 4

Bring all the sink folded corners to the back. This is almost the Galata flower.

Step 5

Fold petals up and fold the sides to the middle.

Step 6

Repeat on all petals.

Step 7

Bring the little corners to the middle. If you follow these steps your petals will be open. If you first fold the corners in and then open up the petals, the flower will be more closed.

Step 8

Tuck the free flaps inside the pockets so that the petals are locked.

Step 9

Repeat on all flaps.

Step 10

You can use a 1/4 square, fold a windmill base, sink it and place it in the middle. You can also join the flowers with a smaller windmillbase.

My Eighty-Fourth Design: Fethiye Bowl

I created this design on 2 October 2021. Fethiye is both an Aegean holiday town and a mosque, formerly a church, in Istanbul.

How to fold the Fethiye bowl

Step 1

Fold a square base.

Step 2

Fold like a bird base for the octagonal lines.

Step 3

You can fold the flaps back.

Or cut them to get a clean octagon.

Step 4

Fold the tip to the top line.

Step 5

Fold the tip to the half line.

Step 6

Fold the middle line between the creases.

Step 7

Make a sink fold. (You can also choose to sink the bigger octagon. Then, the end result will be less concave.)

Step 8

Make a twist fold to the right or the left but don't fold the top part.

The back side should be flat.

Step 9

Bring the corners down using the crease just below.

Step 10

Push all the corners to the middle. There should be a hole in the middle.

Step 11

Make a triangle fold to the corners. Their direction doesn't matter.

Step 12

Open up the corners and see the triangle.

Step 13

Make a sink fold until the next line in the middle.

Step 14

Repeat seven more times.

Step 15

Fold the flaps as shown. You should have a star shape in the middle, and the folds should be equal.

Step 16

Fold the outside corners to the back so that you have a rounder shape. The bowl will be concave as you fold them back.

My Eighty-Second Design: Mimi Star

I created this design on 25 September 2021. The name comes from my origami friend Mimi, who celebrated her 39th birthday.

How to fold the Mimi Star

Step 1

Fold a square base.

Step 2

Fold like the bird base for the octagonal lines.

Step 3

Fold the flaps inside.

Step 4

Fold the bottom corner to the middle and then to the new line.

Step 5

Sink fold the octagon.

Step 6

Flatten the octagon and rotate the paper to the direction you like.

Step 7

Open up the paper but be gentle to it.

Step 8

Turn the paper over and fold the lines as show. The paper will be helpful, so you'll understand.

Step 9

Then fold the opposite sides as shown.

Step 10

Fold the in between parts as shown.

Step 11

You can fold further to take the paper as backwards as possible.

Step 12

Turn the paper over and open up the pockets a little so that it looks like movement.

My Seventy-Sixth Design: Hüsnüzan Wreath

I created this design on 22 August 2021 on the sole purpose of drawing its diagram. I love its flower-like shape and strong locks.

Hüsnüzan means "good thoughts" or more specifically "having good thoughts about someone else" in old Turkish.

How to fold the Hüsnüzan Wreath

Step 1

Fold the halves.

Step 2

Fold the diagonals.

Step 3

Fold the bird base.

Step 4

Fold the sides into the middle.

Step 5

Turn the paper and repeat the previous step.

Step 6

Turn the paper and fold the bottom corner to the imaginary line between the triangles.

Step 7

Squash fold the corner.

Step 8

Fold all side flaps inside.

Step 9

Fold the right side corner as shown.

Step 10

Fold the part just below as shown.

Step 11

Turn the paper over and this time, fold the left part as shown.

Step 12

Fold the part just below up as shown.

Step 13

Here comes the assembly. Place to units as shown.

How to fold the Bahçeköy Medallion

Step 1

Fold the windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners half, unfold and fold in half one more time.

Step 3

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 4

The one layer of the sink fold and fold to the front as shown.

Step 5

Repeat on all sides.

Step 6

Fold the sides of the flaps to the middle part.

Step 7

Inside fold the sides.

Step 8

Repeat on all sides.

I created Fatih star on 8 January 2022. Fatih is both the name of a special person for me and a historical neighborhood in Istanbul.

How to fold the Fatih star

Step 1

Fold the triangle base.

Fold one flap to the other side.

Fold the flap like shown below.

Squash fold as shown below.

Step 5

Fold upwards as shown below.

My Eighty-First Design: Hagia Sofia Star

I created this star on 24 September 2021. I gave the name Hagia Sophia star, because I think both variations resemble the original decors on the ceilings of the historical building.

How to fold the Hagia Sophia Star

Step 1

Fold a square base.

Step 2

Fold like the bird base to have the octagonal folds.

Step 3

Unfold the flaps and fold them inside.

Step 4

Fold the corner to the line.

Step 5

Unfold and fold the corner to the other line.

Step 6

Unfold and fold two octagons as shown.

Step 7

Sink fold both.

Step 8

You'll have four access corners from the larger octagon. Reverse fold them as shown.

Step 9

Repeat three more times.

Step 10

Fold the sides of the petals out the line as shown.

Step 11

Repeat on all corners.

Step 12

This is the first version. You can leave it like that or go on.

Step 13

Pull one of the petals and fold the middle part to the right and to the left. Then leave it upwards.

Step 14

Repeat three more times. The star is ready.

My Eighty-Eighth Design: Simple Calix for Kawasaki Rose

I created this design on 28 August 2021 but forgot to publish it, thinking it wasn't a design. I needed a simple calix for my sister's wedding bouquet. There is one but it's complicated and I was racing with time. This takes a little time. (It's actually a Froebel variation.) You can glue it to the rose and put a stem later.

How to fold the simple calix

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners in fourths.

Step 3

Sink fold the corners.

Step 4

Open up and fold the diamond flaps as shown.

Step 5

We need the narrow the base. So, fold the side inside as much as the paper lets you.

Step 6

Repeat three more times.

Step 7

You can squash the bottom a little.

Step 8

You can shape the petals.

My Eighty-Seventh Design New Hope Star

I created this two variations on 22 November 2021. I created a unit a couple days ago. I didn't know what to do with it. Then, I added a step and these came out as perfect Christmas stars.

The pieces are glued in themselves and with each other. So, prepare your glue. There is no color change. Double sided paper isn't a must.

How to fold the New Hope star

Step 1

Fold a square base.

Step 2

Fold one flap up.

Step 3

Turn over and fold the opposite flaps.

Step 4

Turn the paper over to see the unfolded flaps.

Step 5

Fold both sides from the closed corner to the middle line.

Step 6

Turn the paper over and repeat Step 5.

Step 7

Take out the flaps in between.

Step 8

Work on one side. Fold one part as shown.

Step 9

Fold the other side in the same way.

Step 10

Glue the unit in the middle.

Step 11

Wait like that until it dries out.

Step 12

Turn the paper over and glue the back flaps, too. This is the unit for both variations.

Step 13

For variation one, you can glue the pieces as shown.

Step 14

For variation 2, you can glue the pieces as shown.

My Eighty-Sixth Design: Froebel Card Holder

I created this design on 7 November 2021, as I was playing with Froebel variations. It's a great card holder for Christmas tables and wedding tables.

How to fold the Froebel card holder

Step 1

Fold a windmill base.

Step 2

Fold to opposite side in half, and two opposite sides in fourths.

Step 3

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 4

Fold two triangles back.

Step 5

Fold the triangles' back flaps to the diamonds' back.

Step 6

Turn the model over and fold the long sides back.

Step 7

Turn the model over and fold the diamond flaps as shown.

Step 8

Put your finger slightly inside the gap and then puff bottom sides a little.

My Eighty-Fifth Design: Sakura Flower Variation

I created this design on 27 October 2021, after I folded the Flor Amor on @oliviaorigamidecor's Reels. It's a variation of the traditional kirigami sakura flower with five petals.

How to fold the Sakura Flower variation

Step 1

Take one square flower for one petal.

Step 2

Fold one diagonal.

Step 3

Fold both flaps to the middle.

Step 4

Fold one of the top flaps down.

Step 5

Fold the tips of both side flaps back and unfold.

Step 6

Fold the model sideways as shown.

Step 7

Open up the little petals as shown.

Step 8

Glue five petals as shown.

My Eighty-Third Design: Cibali Froebel Variation

I created this Froebel variation on 26 September 2021. Cibali is a historical neighborhood in Istanbul, which has some urban myths around it.

How to fold the Cibali Froebel variation

Step 1

Fold the windmill base.

Step 2

Fold the corners in half and then to the new crease.

Step 3

Sink fold all the corners.

Step 4

Fold the sides of the flaps as shown.

Step 5

Take a chopstick and fold the parts as shown.

Step 6

Fold all of them.

Step 7

Fold the middle corners to the top and under the previous folds.

Step 8

Fold the other middle corners up as rectangles and tuck them under the folds. The unit is ready. 8 of them make a wreath or you can use them as tiles. You can place another color or photo inside.

Step 9

You can further collapse the sides and make it a bowl. If your paper is strong enough the top folds will hold tight.

My Eightieth Design: Autumn Flower

I created this design on 14 September 2021. It can have open or closed petals and you can assemble two of them like a Febregé Egg.

How to fold the Autumn Flower

Step 1

Fold 3x3 grids.

Step 2

Fold the paper in half on both sides.

Step 3

Turn the paper over and fold the diagonals.

Step 4

Fold a waterbomb base.

Step 5

Fold the bottom corner to the one forth of the top line.

Step 6

Make a sink fold.

Step 7

Fold the flaps inside from the existing crease.

Step 8

Repeat on all flaps. They will overlap.

Step 9

Fold the corners on the closed side. Repeat on the other side, too. Then, unfold.

Step 10

Fold the flaps in the open side inside and up.

Step 11

Repeat on all flaps. The open side should look like that.

Step 12

Then come back to the closed corners and gently make sink folds.

Step 13

You can leave the petals closed or open them as shown.

Step 14 (optional)

You can make two of them and assemble together like a Febregé egg! You can fold and decorate the excess parts, too.

My Seventy-Ninth Design: Bow Tie Mandala

I found the unit on 22 August 2021 and I completed the mandala on 10 September 2021.

You'll need 10 pieces and a glue.

How to fold the Bow Tie mandala

Step 1

Fold a diagonal.

Step 2

Fold two sides half way to the diagonal.

Step 3

Turn the paper over and fold the bottom corner to the top.

Step 4

Fold the colored part on the right to the colored part on the left, making a fan-like crease below.

Step 5

Glue two units as shown.

Step 6

You can fold the back as shown or tuck the excess part inside the pocket next to it.

Step 7

Glue all units together. The mandala is ready.

My Seventy-Eighth Design: Ribbon Mandala

I found the unit on 22 August 2021 and I completed the mandala on 10 September 2021.

You'll need six units and a glue.

How to fold the Ribbon Mandala

Step 1

Fold a diagonal.

Step 2

Fold the other diagonal.

Step 3

Fold about 1 cm down on one side. Mind that the distance should be the same on all units.

Step 4

Turn the paper over and fold from the bottom point to the left side as shown.

Step 5

Repeat on the other side. Check the front to make sure both sides are even.

Step 6

Fold the flaps out again equally.

Step 7

Turn the paper over. Make sure everything is neat. The unit is ready.

Step 8

Glue the units side by side as shown.

The back side should look like that.

Step 9

Tuck the excess parts inside as shown.

Step 10

Glue 6 units and the mandala is ready.

My Seventy-Seventh Design: Mandala Hermes

I found the unit for this mandala on 22 August 2021. But I left it that way. I assembled it on 10 September 2021. It still didn't have a name.

On 15 September 2021 I named it Hermes, not after the Greek god, but after a friend's cat who died that day. Good bye Hermes! Your name will live.

You'll need 14 units and glue.

How to fold the Mandala Hermes

Step 1

Fold the paper in 4x4 grids.

Step 2

Turn the paper over and fold the Blintz fold.

Step 3

Turn the paper over again and fold the windmill base.

Step 4

Fold the corners clockwise as shown.

Step 5

Fold the shape in half.

Step 6

Fold the downward corner to a square.

Step 7

Glue the pieces as shown.

Step 8

Glue all the pieces to complete the mandala.

I created this design on 21 August 2021. The form looked like the "bereket" (abundance) symbol in Turkish rugs. So, I named it that way.

How to fold the Bereket Wreath

Step 1

Fold the paper in halves.

Step 2

Fold the diagonals.

Step 3

Make a bird base.

Step 4

Fold the flap to the top on both sides.

Step 5

Fold the half of the flap down on both sides.

Step 6

Arrange the units as shown.

Step 7

Fold the common flap up.

Step 8

Tuck the corner inside the pocket.

Step 9

Join 8 units and complete the model.

My Seventy-Fourth Design: Göynük Flower Bowl

I created the open version of the flower on 13 August 2021 and the closed version on 14 August 2021.

Göynük is a beautiful natural wonder, a canyon in Antalya. So, it matches the beauty of this flower.

How to fold the Göynük flower bowl

Step 1

Fold the paper in half on both sides.

Step 2

Turn the paper over and fold the diagonals.

Step 3

Fold the bird base.

Step 4

Squash fold the side as shown.

Step 5

Repeat three more times.

Step 6

Fold one flap to one side and see the triangle.

Step 7

Fold all the triangles back. (You can cut them if you like.)

Step 8

Turn to a flap without a triangle.

Step 9

Fold the corner first to the half and then to the fourth.

Step 10

Squash fold the middle octagon.

Step 11

For the first version, we go on from here. Fold the middle flaps reverse.

Step 12

Repeat seven more times. Mind that they should be equal.

Step 13

Fold the middle folded flaps so that you have even petals.

Step 14

Fold the middle of the flaps to a side to lock the petals.

Step 15

Repeat 7 more times.

Step 16

First version of the flower bowl is ready.

Step 17

For the second version, let's start from step 10. After squash folding the octagon, start opening it, twisting the sides.

Step 18

When you twist it all together it will look like that.

However, you'll realize that it doesn't open completely. So, we'll work on that.

Fold the petals in half like you did in the other version.

Step 20

After you fold them in the middle, lock them by making a little fold to one side.

Repeat 7 more times. Here is the look from behind.

My Seventy-Third Design: Gökçeada Windmill Flower

I created this design on 8 August 2021. Gökçeada is one of the two Turkish islands in Aegean sea and it's famous for its strong winds, and windmills accordingly.

While folding the photo tutorial, I realized that the direction matters. If you like to attach the units to each other, they should point the same direction.

Step 1

Fold the paper in halves.

Step 2

Turn the paper over and fold the diagonals.

Step 3

Fold the flower base.

Step 4

Fold the closed corner in half.

Step 5

Unfold and open the paper to see the square.

Step 6

Squash fold as shown.

Step 7

First, fold to one side.

Step 8

And then fold the other side up.

Step 9

Fold the triangles back.

Here is the look on the back.

Open up one part as shown below.

Step 11

Repeat three more times.

Step 12

Now open up the flaps as shown below.

Step 13

Repeat three more times.

Open up the petals in the middle. The unit is ready.
