WE'RE JUST BACK FROM CHINA

Dear friends

The Orkestra has returned from its all too brief visit to the People's Republic with none of our fingers or toes lost to frostbite, although it was a close thing! We had an amasin time and were execellently hosted by our kind hosts: soon you will be able to see some of our exploits for yourself on our China Holiday Video which will be posted up here as soon as it is finished.

Our trip did not pass entirely without incident...Despite a close escape when he nearly drowned in a bowl of noodles, Phil Philadopolis was undetered from his intrepid culinary exploration and sampled some of the local delicacies including frogs scorpions and silkworms. Somewhat confused by the jetlag, Camino suceeded in almost emptying a park of pensioners early one morning when he attempted to join in a ballroom dancing lesson, however he was eventually distracted with the promise of a ride in the nearby fairground. Lorenzo's intermittant catatonia seems to have abated slightly with the exposure to Chinese language and he was to be found late into the night studying ancient chinese texts and muttering monosyllables. And finally, Thomas received at least thirteen marraige proposals from enthusaistic chinese ladies who seemed unduly impressed with the length of his beard!

While we ponder these cultural anomalies we are off to put the finishing touches to our FANTASTIC new second album 'The Moveable Feast' which will be launched in a MUSICAL SPECTASTICLE at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh on May 18th to kick of our second WORLD TOUR OF THE UK, so any of you who missed us in Beijing, we look forward to warming you up over the coming year! Dear friends of the frozen north,
We, the amazing ORKESTRA DEL SOL have played in various climactic conditions......Battling through MONSOON conditions in India! Barely holding on to our hats and beards in a NEAR HURRICANE in Winchester! Running for cover during HAIL STORMS in Falkirk! Sweltering in a SWEDISH SAUNA SIMULATION at the Caves, Hogmanay! (Happy New Year by-the-way) .....but NEVER have we played our polkas, waltzes and danceable sousaphone-fuelled classics in such SUB-ZERO temperatures as at the incredible Highland Lights Torch-lit Procession in Inverness where the temperature was MINUS EIGHT DEGREES!

ICE CREAM! NORWAY! MOTHERS-IN-LAW!........Are all at their best below zero.

SAXOPHONES. FINGERS. TOES.......... Are not.

In fact, they are the most temperaturely challenged of our extremities, especially as SINCERO MINIMO occasionally prefers to play his saxophone with his feet, to impress his friends. After an over-excited punter spilled beer Lorenzo's accordion in Inverness, his fingers became frozen to the keyboard during a solo and he could only play one chord for the rest of the set! (If anyone would like to knit him some fingerless gloves, please could they get in touch.)

But our troubles are not over…!

On the 4th of Febuary The Orkestra are heading off to woo Beijing crowds with their winter olympics as part of the festivities for the CHINESE NEW YEAR where we temperatures are rumoured to be plummeting to MINUS 11 AT NIGHT. Gregovic is currently modifying all of the band’s instruments with central heating so that none of us get frostbite and Capitanji Tomas is hunting round for many extra pairs of red and black long-johns!
What's more none of us speak much Chinese apart from 'Ni Hao', so everything will have to be non-verbal. (It's lucky most of our tunes are, in fact, instrumentals).

On our return we will be putting the finishing touches to our FANTASTIC new second album 'The Moveable Feast' which will be launched in a MUSICAL SPECTASTICLE at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh on May 18th to kick of our second WORLD TOUR OF THE UK, so any of you who can’t join us in Beijing, we look forward to warming you up over the coming year! In 2005 Sincero Minimo’s ego was officially unveiled with his rendition of Maki Maki at the Galashiels Balkan Music Awards. These have been some of the launches we have ever played.

Coming fresh into your inboxes from Edinburgh. We hope that those of you who are far away can hear us? Do we need to shout?

ZDRAVO SERBIA! AHOJ CZECH REPUBLIC! ¡HOLA VALLADOLID!

The good news is that we are on the move again! After our SELL OUT shows in THE FAMOUS SPIEGELTENT at the Edinburgh Fridge Festival we are about to hit the roads again: Yes we may be coming to a town near you very soon, to perform for you, the peoples! Firstly we go to Spain where we will be skirting with the outlands of Barcelona to play at Olot and Tarrega (6th,11th & 12th Sept), and where the peoples there will be much dancing on the pavements on the table!

After a quick stop in France (Avignon, 13th Sept) we’ll be heading back to UK soil for our ONE AND ONLY GIG IN LONDON FOR 2008. Yes, in especial treat for you our Ingerlish friends who missed our celebratory album launch in Scotland, we will be launching our fantastic album THE MOVEABLE FEAST over you, our friends, all over again, on TUESDAY 16th SEPTEMBER.
But hurry - it is a small venue and hot tickets are selling like cakes.

Date: Tuesday 16 September
Venue: 32 Old Bailey, Blackfriars, EC4M 7HS (between St.Paul’s & Blackfriars)
Time: 7.30 (live music from around 9pm)

The venue serves great food too, so why not feast with yourelves first before the feast for the ears that is our Moveable Feast!

Then finally, in an unprecedented dash across the countries, never before attempted by a fully-fledged Orkestra, we will make one giant jump all the way to the North of Scotland to play in Wick, Skye and Drumnadrochit. See our webnet for more details…

The ORKESTRA DEL SOL's European touring has completely GONE to their HEADS! You know what they say in on the incontinent: you give them 2.54cm and they take 1.6km. Have those BRASS WIELDING INSTRUMENTALISTS OF JOY totally EUROPEANISED themselves beyond RECOGNITION? Let's see now:

- MARCO BATTENBURG is now UTTERLY ADDICTED to Czech GINGERBREADS (and we all know what that means..... OSTRAVA!)
- SINCERO MINIMO now has his own CATALUNYAN FAN CLUB (we all know what'll that means if he goes out in.....TARREGA!)
- OLGA finally managed to FIND HER CHAMPAGNE (and we all know what that means in, err.... CHAMPAGNE!)
- LORENZO is permanently LOST IN TRANSLATION (and nobody knows what that means, eh, LJUBLIANJA??),
- GREGOVIC says he never went.......ANYWHERE!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the ORKESTRA went the WHOLE COCHON this summer. SO MUCH European touring was had in SO LITTLE TIME that they got 568ml into a 284ml pot. AMAZING! But now, your favorite MUSICAL EURONOMISTS have barely a note left in them. Except (JOKING!) for a few CAREFULLY CHOSEN and extremely HIGH QUALITY music entertainment extravaganzas in what's left of two hundred and eight.

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, we're in for a penny, in for 1.2 Euros at the amazing BALKANARAMARAMA in Calton Studios, Edinburgh on October 24th. You can even see SINCERO MINIMO on the flier. He loves it himself!

As for the remaindeer of the year we'll be resting our hats, suits, winkle pickers and instrumental brass sabers until the HAPPINESS that is HOGMANAY. Before the bells we'll be at PERTH (Scotland) CONCERT HALL, after the bells at Edinburgh's very own DEPARTURE LOUNGE, and the next day (yes - THE FIRST) we'll be on the Royal 1.6km at FEET FIRST, a celebration of all things new yearly by the best of Scotlands street artists.

Yes, loyal fans of the now locally-famous behemoths of brass, wherever you live in ENGLAND, the Orkestra are going to be within dancing distance. Set the dial to 'fanfare', look on the brass spectrum, and the Orkestra we will appear as a 10 piece carnival on your musical radar. If you would like to see what we can do to your town, look at what happened when the Orkestra were asked in to deal with an outbreak of sadness and lethargy in Ostrava last summer......

The Orkestra is in a very special preparation: Bad Tim Bones is polishing his Scottish-Cuban 'Thistle crisis' heels.....Sincero Minimo is polishing his libido.... and Marco is mapping bakeries en route so he's no more than 2 km from a fresh sponge cake. Olga has packed her champagne and Cameron has cleared his 7 day release from the Island. The Orkestra are ready for YOU!

It's US! Can you see us wearing ROSETTES? RED and BLACK ones? For YOU! YOU who have voted.... with your feet. YOU who chose... with your hearts. "YOU-HOO that went with the FEELING" (sing it).

Thank you to everyone in the Czech republic, and possibly other countries, who voted ODS in last week's elections, believing it to be us, their friends, ORKESTRA DEL SOL, who entertained them so amusingly on TV last summer. The Swedish have a Pirate Party (apparently not a mis-spelling). Slovakia have the SMER campaign. But it's the Czech that have the ODS. But you don't want that ODS - you want THIS ODS! BRING ON THE BAND!

Just imagine the party - The ORKESTRA DEL SOL PARTY, PARTY PARTY PARTY! As your democratically chosen representatives of MUSICAL MAYHEM, we will unite the whole European Zone with DANCING and LAUGHTER. Bring on the tax-free GIGGLING, DANCING, HILARITY, and SWAYING (for the pensioners). Yes voters, GENERAL MUSICAL APPRECIATION is central to our policy of OVERALL FUN!

We shall polka them on the beaches. We shall waltz them in the nightclubs. We shall CARESS their EARS with joyous HARMONY and CALYPSO. Your festivals await us and WE ARE COMING to one near you.
