Theme Day: Mystery Object Revealed

Here is the entire statue dedicated to Roy Disney. The real joy is how they captured his down-to-earth demeanor. Sitting near the entrance, but surrounded in such a way as to not take away from the rest of the park. It balances his work for this resort: behind the scenes until Walt's death forced him to assume the key leadership role.

Theme Day: Mystery Object

It's the first of the month and time for the City Daily Photo Theme Day. This time the theme is Mystery Object. This probably is not that much of a mystery, especially to Walt Disney World fans. I know there are those that come here quite a bit, and have missed this statue.
For the rest, this is a statue located at the entrance of the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World resort. While Walt Disney had the vision and tenacity to create a theme park resort in Florida, it was his brother, Roy Disney, who really sweated the details. And when Walt passed away before the park was completed, it was Roy who kept his brother's dream alive. I am certainly not doing the story justice here. It is worth a search to get the whole story.
And opening day for the Magic Kingdom happened this day in 1971; 40 years ago. Needless to say, the celebrations have been going on today. And that would not have happened without Roy. To see the entire statue, click here.

I know that in Orlando, the theme parks begin to celebrate Halloween early. Universal Orlando resort has Halloween Horror Nights up and running, while at the Magic Kingdom, you can enjoy Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween on certain nights. Still, this is way too soon to decorate your abode.

Theme Park Thursday, and we are at SeaWorld Orlando. I think I would come to SeaWorld just to check in on Klondike and Snow. The only trouble is I never know who I am actually seeing. And I have yet to catch one of them doing something other than sleeping. Obviously, there is activity. As witnessed here, toys are getting played with. Maybe I'll see one up and around. Someday.

Changing lightbulbs on such a large sign should take more than one person. And at least one more to supervise! This is the sign for Pleasure Island in Downtown Disney at the Walt Disney World resort.

Theme Day: Perspective

It's the first of the month and time for the City Daily Photo Theme Day. This time the theme is Perspective. This is one of the condominiums near Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. The color and pattern always causes me to pause and look up.
This theme is also a place for me to pick up and start again. This has been a tough year for me and my family. But like so many events in life, it is all about perspective. Sometimes, when you hit rock bottom, the best thing to do is look up. Orlando Daily Photo has been and always will be a source of happiness for me. It is rather cathartic in its own way. We see what we want. It is more fun to let others see what you see.

These are the masterpieces that my son, 3 physically, and I, 7 mentally, came up with for our Jack O'lanterns this year. He picked the features. It took more than a little brute strength on my part to get the parts on that pumpkin. And Sharpies work wonders, even on pumpkins!

Haunted Mansion Tombstones

I know I've put some of these on here before, but the Haunted Mansion tombstones start what I consider one of the best attractions at the Magic Kingdom. There are so many details to Haunted Mansion that it is easy to miss several. This is part of the queue, and I think too many overlook the tombstones. Especially the last one of Dear Sweet Leota.

Mickey's Pumpkin Patch

Theme Park Thursday gets into the Halloween spirit, so to speak. This is from Mickey's garden at his house in the Toontown Fair area of the Magic Kingdom. These pumpkins would make great Jack O'lanterns. Or maybe I should say, great Mick O'lanterns since there would only one kind of face design to really cut out of them!

I think he realizes that Halloween is right around the corner. He always becomes a bit more scarce. Here he is checking out a high point in the house. Of course, what he really wanted was a head scratch. Instead, he ended up getting a flash in the face.

Abby Cadabby's Halloween Adventure

SeaWorld has some strong magic with its ties to Sesame Street. To add to the already popular musical show with The Count at the Seaport Theater, they brought in Abby Cadabby. After a bit of exploring through a maze of sorts, you end up with a nice photo opportunity with Abby! SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular runs each weekend in October. And the best part is that there is no additional cost involved.

The End of the Ride

As promised from yesterday's post: The little known fact of the Haunted Mansion's pet cemetery is that it is the final resting place for Mr. Toad. Click on the image and you will see tucked into the corner of the graveyard is a statue of Mr. Toad. When the attraction, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, was killed, er closed, he was given a place so he could forever be in the Magic Kingdom. Kinda spooky, huh?

The downtown library has many alcoves along the face of the building. And as you can imagine, the birds love to congregate there. To deter that, they have installed these nails to keep the birds from roosting. This pigeon was not going to let something like that stop him!
