Tenth Annual City of Portland Archives Open House

Ever wondered where the city keeps its historical records? Ever wanted to see the first hand-written ordinances or the city or police dockets from the turn of the last century? From the Olmstead plan for Portland to construction photos of Bull Run, the City of Portland Archives and Records has it all!

Please join us for Tenth Annual Open House on Friday, October 2nd from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. There will be tours of the facility at 1:30 and 3:00, the ever popular Portland history trivia challenge and delicious root beer floats while they last.

This will be our last open house in our current location. We are moving to a larger and more centrally located space in 2010. To mark this occasion you are invited to enjoy our new exhibit entitled "The History of the Portland Archives and Records Program." This exhibit explores and celebrates where we have come from as we prepare to move to our new location.

ORSLA Professional Development Event

We invite you to join us for an upcoming professional development opportunity. On Wednesday, May 7th, we will be presenting a replay of "Creating Indexes on Web Sites and Intranets" by Heather Hedden of Hedden Information Management. This will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 at the law offices of Bullivant Houser Bailey, 888 SW 5th Ave., #300 (conference room directly across from elevators).

As web sites and intranets expand in size and complexity, users require additional means to search for needed information. Browsable A-Z indexes can provide accurate retrieval. Participants will learn when and where an A-Z index is the best option for site searching, the basics of how to create a hyperlinked index, what software tools are available, and how to design and format indexes.

Pizza and refreshments will be served. The cost will be $7 for student members, $8 for SLA members, and $10 for non-members. You may pay at the door either with cash or a check payable to ORSLA. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joan Truncali at bjtruncali@aol.com or mbagley.lib@gmail.com.

Please RSVP by May 5th at the link below: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=YVVvdgsqMs_2bInRCYx37yDQ_3d_3d
