Congratulations, your practices continue to SIGNIFICANTLY outperform others in the Orthodontic Industry!
As you know, every month we review how your practices are performing and identify what we can do to assist you. This week we concluded our quarterly review and wanted to share some important trends with you.

Information from industry sources and suppliers shows that orthodontic industry revenue is down around 8-15%. OSI affiliated doctors have been able to maintain revenues. In fact, March revenues for OSI affiliated doctors were up 2.8%!

Doctors who understand the current economic environment and have responded accordingly have driven this growth. These doctors are not only surviving - they are thriving.

Some practices have not yet fully accepted or adapted to the economic climate. Some practices have been too slow to reign in employee expenses, which are rising for many doctors. Some practices have decided to cut their advertising in the past 6 months. This is the wrong thing to do. The data and analysis clearly shows that cutting advertising will have a negative effect on your practice's performance - both now and in the future. Practices should reign in employee costs and unneeded expenses and invest the money wisely in advertising. Use this bad economic climate to make your business stronger.

While OSI affiliated practice consults are up by 7%, we have to be careful to convert every phone call and consult to a banding. Focus on what we call the 'contract to banding gap.' Take a look at how many contracts you have signed in the past 6 months versus how many patients have begun treatment. Currently we are seeing many patients signing contracts, but they are getting 'buyers remorse' and not getting banded. Many doctors are moving aggressively to address this... are you? Some doctors are banding the same day a contract is signed to correct this trend. What are you doing in your practice?

OSI recommends all practices speak with their practice enhancement representative to discuss how improved efficiencies like same day bandings can improve your bottom line. We have many programs that can help your practices. One example is our partnership with Chase which can help you collect money up front, protecting you against patients who sign or band and don't return.

During this economic downturn, it is possible to grow your practice if you recognize the situation and act accordingly. As everyone who attended our Practice Meeting this year will remember from the Disney Institute training... what is your team doing today, right now, to "bump the lamp?" An intense focus on customer service on the phone and in the office will create a huge competitive advantage in your community and help your practice thrive.

Bottom line is the bottom line. Congratulations to everyone, you're significantly outperforming your peers in the market!
