Brian Rojanasumaphong and Sarkis Tatosian of Oscar Isberian Rugs will be traveling to India at the end of this month. They will be visiting the cities of Agra, Jaipur and Varanasi. They have many tasks to accomplish. Among their many duties are visiting new suppliers, checking status of existing orders, working on new colors and designs and reviewing quality control. Brian will be traveling alone to Nepal after the trip to India is concluded to achieve many of the same tasks. We plan to blog again while we are in India. Time permitting of course.

Oscar Isberian Rugs is excited to be on WTTW this upcoming Thursday evening at 7PM. Following a rug from its inception to its landing in Chicago, Brian Rojanasumaphong works with journalists from the PBS show "Chicago Tonight", exploring Istanbul and its most innovative weavers.

Oscar Isberian Rugs was proud to sponsor The Wilmette Historical Society's 2012 Housewalk. This year's theme was "Cooler by the Lake" and featured the homes of Wilmette's South Lakeshore that were built in the 1920's and 1930's. The Baha'I House of Worship will also be on the walk. The homes include those designed by exceptional architects Philip Maher, Abraham Epstein and Richard Powers. Among the more prominent homes on the walk was The Kraft home which was built by the James L. Kraft one of the founders of Kraft Foods. The weather was perfect and over 500 attended the event.

Hagia Sophia in Istanbul

Brian Rojanasumaphong, sales manager at our Kinzie street location, just returned from a trip to Istanbul. In addition to sourcing new rugs, Brian took PBS on a tour to some of Istanbul's most highly regarded and innovative weavers for Chicago Tonight, the highly regarded PBS show. Following a rug from its inception to its arrival in Chicago, Isberian was proud be part of this "insider's look" to the craft of rug making.

Recently Sally and myself attended this year's Bottomless Closet Fundraising Event, Design and Conquer. It was our honor to support such a great group. Their mission is to support women in transition by providing business professional clothing, career skills and image coaching, empowering them to interview with confidence, gain employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Talk about giving back to the community.

Jude Andrews, Executive Director/CEO of Bottomless Closet, dropped a following note to us.

Oscar Isberian Rugs was proud to be a sponsor of the AIA Chicago Small Projects Awards 2012. The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects held their 2nd Annual awards event on Friday May 11 at Architectural Artifacts.

"Small" is defined by a budget of less than $750,000 and firms with fewer than nine licensed architects. Oscar Isberian Rugs not only was a sponsor, but provided rugs for the event. With Sevak Alaverdyan of Oscar Isberian Rugs help, the event was a great success.

Presented by the AIA Chicago Small Practitioners Group, the goal of this award program is to raise public awareness of the value architects bring to small projects and to promote small practitioners as a resource for design excellence.

HGTV will feature Oscar Isberian Rugs on the Saturday May 5 episode of "Meg's Great Rooms"  It will air at 8pm Central time.  The episode is titled "Designing From The Inside Out."  Click on the link below for more information. 

Oscar Isberian Rugs is once again sponsoring a rug design competition with the Harrington School of Design. We are proud to have sponsored this event in the past and are excited to participate again. There are close to 60 entries and the top 7 designs will be hand woven in Nepal. The rugs will be 4x6 in size and woven with a 100% wool pile. Peter Klick of the Harrington School has once again done a fantastic job of organizing the competition. We will follow up later in the week with the winners! Check out these beautiful rug designs.

The Chicago chapter of the Interior Design Peer Alliance held their monthy meeting at Oscar Isberian Rugs. They met yesterday at our Kinzie street location. The IPDA meets once a month at various locations to share best practices, meet vendors and discuss ways to better serve their clients. Sarkis Tatosian, Sally Gordon and Daniel Cornejo of Oscar Isberian Rugs were present as hosts. The group spent part of the evening discussing their own affairs and the balance of the time was spent touring the store viewing the many styles of rugs which are available. Sally Gordon introduced the group to our wide range of broadloom carpets.
