The suspect grabbed her purse and fled on foot. Someone coming out of a nearby restaurant saw the altercation and attempted to track down the suspect but was unable to locate him. Additional deputies responded to the area and a short time later, a deputy located a Hispanic male matching the description of the suspect.
Osceola County Sheriff's detectives, in conjunction with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, arrested Jeffrey Kornfield for three counts of On-Line Enticement of a Child. Kornfield was arrested in Citrus County earlier today.

The investigation began January 7 of this year when Osceola County detectives received information that a 15-year-old St. Cloud girl was having sexual conversations with a 43-year-old man, who knew she was a minor. Detectives were able to obtain information that led them to identifying Kornfield as a suspect.

In March, detectives began having on-line conversations with Kornfield who thought he was talking to a 14-year-old teen. The conversations continued for several months and detectives learned Kornfield was talking to multiple underage teens via the Internet. An arrest warrant was issued on July 8. Osceola County Sheriff's detectives traveled to Citrus County to make the arrest. Citrus County Sheriff's deputies worked in conjunction with Osceola County detectives and Kornfield was arrested at 5305 West Shaker Place in Lecanto, Florida. He was booked into the Citrus County Detention Center.

On July 4 at approximately 5:10 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to 7-Eleven located at 2975 N. Orange Blossom Trail in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a store employee who indicated a white male entered the business, implied he had a weapon and demanded money from the cash register. A short time later, Kissimmee Police Department received a call in reference to a robbery victim. KPD officers had a white male in custody who matched the description of the 7-Eleven armed robbery suspect.
Sheriff Hansell Honors Four Deputies

PR #08-185

At a recent Employee Awards Ceremony, four deputies received the Life Saving Award from Sheriff Bob Hansell. Deputy Dennis Smith and Deputy Don Vitali received the award for assisting a fourteen-month-old child from a possible drowning. On January 12, they responded to a report of a possible drowning. Upon arrival Deputy Smith and Deputy Vitali saw a child lying on the pool deck and they immediately checked for breathing and a pulse, with negative results. Deputy Smith began rescue breathing while Deputy Vitali performed chest compressions. They continued for about six minutes until the arrival of Fire Rescue personnel. Although initially, the prognosis was not good, the child was eventually released from the hospital and is improving.

Deputy Bryan MacMahon and Deputy Ken Wilson received the Life Saving Award for their response to a medical call. On February 28, Deputy MacMahon and Deputy Wilson responded to a Med No Vitals call within one minute of being dispatched. They observed a man on the floor, cold to the touch, and breathing with extreme difficulty. Deputy MacMahon immediately began rescue breathing while Deputy Wilson performed chest compressions. After four cycles of CPR, Fire Rescue arrived and relieved them. They continued to assist Fire Rescue personnel until the man was transported to the hospital. Prior to transporting, Fire Rescue advised that the man was breathing on his own. The man was taken to the hospital and later released in good health.

“These deputies are to be commended for their quick response and willingness to help others. They are a fine example of the quality of men and women who work at the Osceola County Sheriff's Office,” stated Sheriff Hansell.

PR08-170

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is applying for re-accreditation with the state. A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will arrive July 22, to examine all aspects of the agency's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office has to comply with approximately 250 standards in order to be re-accredited. Many of the 250 standards are critical to life, health and safety issues.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. The public may call 321-697-4342 on July 23, 2008 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CFA standards. A copy of the standards is available for review at the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, 2601 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee during normal business hours. For more information regarding CFA or for persons wishing to offer written comments about the Osceola County Sheriff's Office ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please write: CFA, 3504 Lake Lynda Drive, Suite 380, Orlando, Florida, 32817.

The Accreditation Program Manager for the Osceola County Sheriff's Office is Sergeant Daric R. Harvey. He said the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other sites where compliance can be witnessed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to receive re-accredited status. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office accreditation is for 3 years. The Sheriff's Office was originally accredited in 1999 and has successfully received re-accreditation every three years since then.

“Verification by the team that the Osceola County Sheriff's Office meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation--a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” stated Sheriff Hansell.
