“Factorium” – developed by Lazy Brain Games – is a fantasy shooter with nice pixel graphics and a fancy game control. You have to shoot crazy looking aliens by dragging and dropping the intended action with the mouse. But you should be aware of the aliens! There are a lot of them and they trying to hit you! So avoid getting in contact with these mad creatures while surfing on your futuristic surfboard (WASD keys).

The game is freeware and unfortunately only available for Windows but I have played it successfully on Ubuntu Maverick with the help of Wine.

“L'Abbaye des Morts” is another fine retro game by Locomalito. This game looks and sounds like it’s a remake but it’s truly a new Spectrum ZX inspired jump ’n’ run game.

You can get the binaries only for Windows but I’ve played “L'Abbaye des Morts” on my Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) system using the current stable version of Wine almost without any problems. Ok I didn’t have any sound but maybe this is solvable.

A long time ago there were some really great jump ’n’ run games made for different home computers and consoles. One of those wonderful games was a game called “Ruff 'n' Tumble”. You probably played this game on the Amiga computer many years (or just only few days?) ago and it was fucking GREAT!

Now it’s time to play “Ruff 'n' Tumble – Mashup”! This is some kind of a fantastic remake made in Flash and it’s also fucking GREAT! ;) You can play this game in your webbrowser, so there is no installation needed.

Well, this is not a game but it is some kind of retro software and I think it's pretty cool. You can use "ASCIIPaint" to draw pictures with ASCII characters just like in a simply painting program.

This application was made in Adobe Flash so there is a SWF file available which should run also on Linux and Mac systems. However I couldn't start it on my Ubuntu 10.04 system. :( But if you have Wine installed you can get the Windows EXEcutable.

"Master of Magic – Implode’s Multiplayer Edition" is a clone of "Master of Magic", a turn-based fantasy strategy game similar to "Civilization". The original game was released in 1993 by Microprose for DOS. As you probably suppose, you can play this game in the multiplayer mode.

This remake is only available for Windows. As usual, I've tried to play this game with Wine on my Ubuntu system but I've unfortunately failed. The game crashes after starting the executable. If you have any idea how to get this problem fixed please let me know: Leave a comment. :)

Do you remember "Another World" – the awesome fantasy adventure game on your Amiga computer? No you can play this game with high resolution graphics on your PC! This really AWESOME remake is made by the author of the original game: Eric Chahi.

This remake is not available for free – you can only download and play a demo for free but the whole game costs only 8.99 US-$ and it's a pretty good value!

Unfortunately you can get this remake only for Windows. I've tried playing the demo for a couple of time on my Ubuntu 10.04 system with the current Version of Wine (version 1.2). It works great but you shouldn't loose the focus of the game window when playing in the windowed mode - this caused a freezing of the application on my system.

After surfing through the internet I've casualy found this funny retro styled game called "Warlock Bentspine". Here is the offical story of this game:

"It is the year 2042 AD. The world has gone down the pooper and now, Stinker City, one of the last few cities still standing is about to crumble in the hands of the Jihad Gang, a group of four super criminals set loose upon the city. You are Jacob Bentspine, better known as Warlock, the guardian of Stinker City. It's your job to hunt down and apprehend these criminals.

You can get this NES like game with cool pixel graphics and retro music only for Windows but as usual I've tried to play this game with Wine on Linux and I've have to tell you: It works great with the current version of Wine on My Ubuntu 10.04 system! :)

I don't really like anime but this game has really nice pixel graphics so it looks a little bit like it was made for the SNES. You are playing with an anime girl who jumps through a fantasy world collecting different stuff and fighting strange oponents.

You can download this great freeware game only for Windows systems but it works really great on my Ubuntu system with Wine, too.

Here is another little retro candy! This guy/girl (?) startet following me on Twitter ( https://twitter.com/nescafeplay ). I was curious who's following me with the ambiguous and interesting name "NESCafe". After a closer look I've found a link to this wonderful page with many NES games in his/her profile.

You can play all these games just in your web browser. There is no need to install or configure anything! This site is similar to 2600online.com, virtualatari.org and virtualapple.org like introduced in this blog some months ago.

The emulator on this site depends on Java so you need to have the Java plugin installed if you want to play anything.

Frogatto is not a remake it's a new and free jump ’n’ run game with really AWESOME graphics and with the spirit of some cool old Amiga/SNES games!

You can get Frogatto for Linux, Mac and Windows for free and buy the iPhone version for only 0.99 US-$.

Do you remember the old Workbench 1.x on your Amiga computer? Remember these wonderful days again while playing "Digital: A Love Story" – the Amiga Worbench inspired text adventure. Yeah texts…! You have to read a lot but I promise you this will be fun!

WOW! I'm so excited! The classic freeware shoot ’em up game "Hydorah" has been finished! It is based on 80’s standards. Hydorah has really awesome graphics, music and gameplay. You should also take a look on the posters and the cover PDFs.

Unfortunately this game is available for Windows only but I've tried playing Hydorah with Wine on Linux and it works GREAT!

Here is another fine RPG clone called "Dungeon Eye". It's a great remake of the original game "Eye of the Beholder" you probably played some years ago on your Amiga or old IBM PC. Unfortunately there is only a Windows verson available. Maybe it works on Wine but I haven't tried yet.

You like role play games? So you should try playing this great clone. It's available for Linux, MacOS X, Windows and Pocket PC.

Woohooo! Here's another "You-really-have-to-bookmark-this"-Site – if you know and love the Apple II computer. There is mass of classic games to play (more than 1400 disk images)!

All you need is to download and install a plugin for you webbrowser which is available for MacOS, Linux and Windows. Unfortunatley the Firefox addon currently isn't working on 64-bit Linux systems – you have to use a 32-bit system.

All you need to play more that 550 Atari 2600 games is the Java-Plugin for your browser and a lot of time to have fun! You can play all of these classic games just in your browser, so there is no need to download, install and configure any emulators and games.

Unfortunately this remake is really only for Windows. I've tried to start this clone with Wine but it seems like this isn't working.

Unfortunately the download link on the authors website is broken so you have to download Tubopac via Softpedia.com. This game is made for Windows only but you can play this really wonderful "Oil's Well" remake also perfectly with Wine on Linux.
