Hello, I go by the nick of marmar04 and I guess I'll be making posts once in a blue moon. I'll be reviewing eroge and whatever else Dan throws my way. I'm also the owner of the official Otaku Dan IRC channel... Why isn't Dan the owner? Because he knows even less than I do about IRC.

About me?

I'm a 22 yr old lolicon that's been watching anime on and off since middle school. Started to really get back into it when I was 19 and haven't stopped since. Favorite artists are: Akira Kasukabe (love his shota stuff), Humikane Shimada, Na-Ga, and Konoe Ototsugu. My top anime are: Martian Successor Nadesico, Strike Witches, Full Metal Panic, Tsukiyomi Moon Phase, Gunbuster, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I also have a blog of my own, that I never seem to update anymore... And my anime-planet.com profile if you wanna look at the anime I've seen.

Back to the IRC thing. Many of you in the anime world already know of Internet Relay Chat. Whether it's to just chat or download all the latest anime from your favorite fansub group the IRC is a wonderful place. The honorable Otaku Dan has given his blessing for me to create an official IRC channel for his blog. Come idle and wait for random conversations to pop up here and there, or talk about what ever crap Otaku Dan is spewing on his blog. Who knows! Maybe the honorable Dan will grace us with his presence once in a while!

WOW, 2 years of blogging. As I look back, I cannot believe that I have lasted this long. When I started, I thought I would have just quit after 2 months. However, There's was something that had me coming back. I could proudly say that blogging is special to me.

I want to thank everyone who has supported my blog. I am grateful for those who visit and comment here. When I started, I really did not think that my blog would grow like this. I have met a lot of great people because of this blog. I want to also thank the haters. Because of you, you just keep fueling the flame of passion that I have for blogging.

Big Anime Wallpaper Dump

I have always like to cover my DS with skins. It's a great way to protect them and it looks good at the same time. For some time, I have been looking for anime themed skins for my DS but what I have found is limited to Naruto and Bleach skins. On my search, I stumbled upon a website that I can have custom made skins.

The website I found was GelaSkins. The quality is superb. It is not cheaply made and the material that it is made of will not create bubbles when applying. The only negative about the skin is if you have sweating hands, it will be slippery.

I am considering getting skins for my Wii and PlayStation 2. So, do you use skins as well?

Artwork For My Art Class

So for my Design Foundation class, our first assignment was to pick three objects (One mechanical, one organic, and one random trinket in the house that has no purpose *I can't remember the word used for that last object*). From those three objects, we had to draw five thumbnails of each that are abstracts from the objects. My objects: My,somehow still alive, Bamboo. A trinket that Otaku Dan gave me at Christmas. Lastly, cat claw clippers. From those five thumbnails we had to choose three that we liked best. Oh! The pictures had to be in black and white only. Our second assignment was to get rid of one object. I threw out the cat claw clippers and kept the trinket and bamboo. We also had to draw them in white, black, and ONE color. I used blue for the trinket and green for the bamboo. We had to draw 5 new thumbnails of each and choose three that we liked best.

These last three are from my second assignment.( Unfortunately, I'm not good with photoshop and don't know how to brighten my images or make them sharper without ruing the quality. Sorry for them being so dull. They aren't dull in real life.) These are my best ones:

I'm still an amateur. I'll get better at this as the semester goes on. (And another note, I prefer only drawing in black and white. I honestly despise drawing with colors.)

If you have the notice the lack of posts, it is because I'm sick. I have an infection. The other day, there was an odd man with gray skin and yellow eyes. He had a dead look on his face and for some strange reason, he was constantly saying "brains, brains". Then out of nowhere, he bites my arm and pasted out. I'm just kidding, I have an ear infection.

I always get an ear infection at least once a year. It has been like that since I was a small child and only my right ear gets infected. The pain stated a few days ago during the middle of class. I could not stand the pain anymore and I decided to leave early. As I was about to exist the room, my professor stops the lecture to ask me why I was leaving. He does this sort of thing to embarrass students who leave class early. I reply that it feels if someone is stabbing my right eye, the right side of my jaw and neck are in pain, and that my canal is burning. Everyone in the class gave him a dirt look.

On the first few days, my right ear was swollen shut. I was practically deaf in that ear. As of right now, the swelling has gone down but it still hurts. What sucks is that when I'm sleeping, I end up rolling over to the right side of my body and the pain wakes me up. I have been sleeping sitting up. In a few days, I should be back to normal.

Anime Fandom in the Pop Culture

Last week, several American television shows had some sort of anime fandom in it. The first thing that came to mind was, "Wow. Anime finally made it big in the mainstream." After a while I thought to myself, "Maybe this is not such a good thing." Because of what was depicted as what anime fandom is, it seemed somewhat negative in a way.

On the show American Idol was a young lady who auditioned to become eligible for the rest of the competition to become American Idol. The thing is, her audition was really crappy. Plus, she would probably been blown off of the show. However, there was one thing the show focused on her and that was that she is an anime fan. The first thing that came to mind when I heard of this was, " Oh wow. She's probably an average anime fan." But when I saw it, I was in shock. This young lady was, in the nicest way I can say, a spazz. She took several cosplay costumes to the audition and said her dream was to become a famous singer in Japan. She also claimed she is an otaku. The thing is, her definition of an otaku was "An anime freak." That enraged a lot of people. A lot of people hunted her down on Facebook, Youtube, and any other social media site and they insulted her every way possible saying she is the reason why anime fans can't be taken serious.

In my own personal opinion, I despise the way she acted because people who hate anime or don't know what anime is will believe this is how all anime fans are.

A few days after the American Idol incident on the show 30 Rock there was a new episode with the subplot of a successful actor wanting to create a fake celebrity relationship with a character just to dispel a rumor that he was in love with a dakimakura. In fact he was in love with a dakimakura and he even said, "Are you familiar with Japanese moe relationships where socially disfunctional men develop deep emotional attachments to body pillows with women painted on them?" The actor even referred to his dakimakura as "Kimiko-tan". In the end of the episode the actor decides to accept himself for who he is and publicly announced that he is in love with his dakimakura.

When I saw that episode, I thought to myself, "That is pretty creepy. But, in a way it did show a great lesson on accepting yourself for who you are and that you shouldn't care about how other people judge you."

Other shows during last week also did small mentions of anime, but I'm not getting into that because it's not that big. I find it interesting that in the beginning of the week, people were angry and disappointed. However, at the end of this entire week everyone was okay and had cooled off. Hopefully in the future there will be better examples of what anime fandom really is, but for now only we can set the examples.

So, what are you thoughts on this matter?

I was originally writing a different post but I got distracted finishing up my second play of Persona 4. I became somewhat obsessed with the Persona spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei game series. There's something about these games that keeps me coming back for more. So far, I have played Persona 3 FES and Persona 4. Figure Stage

I got bored with the setup I had for my figma and fraulein figures. If you can see, I use different sized CD jewel cases because I'm to cheap to buy those Di:Stage things. I'm the type of person who likes to use whats around the house before buying something I don't need(at the moment).

When I took them down, I did not know that I use that many CD jewel cases.

I tried out 4 - 5 different designs but this one is just right.

To me, it looks fine like that.

I will buy the Di:Stage but after I buy a Detolf glass case. So, are those Di:Stage things worth getting?

Winter 2010 Anime Season Part 4: Wild Card

I have a small ritual that I do every new anime season. I write down the title of the different anime series that I was not planning to watch on to stripes of paper. Then, I mix them together in a bowl and randomly pick a winner. Sometimes, I pick out a gem. Other times, I pick out trash.

This season's winner is........................

Hanamaru Kindergarten. When I first read the description to this anime, I was not happy. It sounds like Kodomo no Jikan but with kindergartners. Then I watched it and found something interesting. It's just like Kodomo no Jikan but innocent and really funny. The animation is great, as expected from Gainax. I could see myself watching this anime every week just to unwind.

Too Cute.

So, what are your thoughts on this anime?

Winter 2010 Anime Season Part 3

I finally get to review the 2 anime series that I have been waiting for, Durarara!! and Dance in the Vampire Bund. Lets see how they turned out.

The first episode of Durarara!! was not that special because it was introducing all of the characters. Right now, the plot has not been fully developed but this anime is going supernatural. The animation is crisp, for the type of art style they're going for, it looks fantastic. I also enjoyed the small Holo and Baccano! cameos.

The first episode of Dance in the Vampire Bund was weird. For the first 17 minutes, it was a boring Japanese variety show but animated. Pretty much, there was a discussing about how vampires are not real. Out of nowhere, sh*t goes down, people panicking, and a loli vampire reveals to the world that vampires are real. My honest reaction by the end of the episode was "what the f*ck just happened?". I'm going to continue watching this anime because it was potential and a cute blond loli vampire.
I had high exceptions for these 2 series, which were met. So, what are your opinions on these anime series?

Winter 2010 Anime Season Part 2

So I watched the first episode of “Ladies versus Butlers!” and it was awful.

Firstly, let’s talk about the artistry. Well, the characters are not proportionate. It looks like the artist couldn’t decide if they should be cute and small (chibi), or a little more mature with some cutesy factors. It looked like the artist mixed the two and mixing the two did not work well for this artist. The first thing I noticed was their hands. Their hands look like they should be on a chibi version of the characters. Then I paid a little closer attention to their hands and noticed they have no finger nails either. They just look like pointed, flesh colored sticks trying to be hands.

Then there is the fact that they don’t have noses unless you are shown the side profiles of their faces. At first I wondered if they can even smell. Then I saw that the side profiles of a few of them and saw their missing noses. And I noticed something else that actually amuses me. The blush on their cheeks looks more like zits. I guess they’re like me. I tend to get zits from wearing foundation and blush.They must be wearing too much make-up.

Here’s what is really awful about the anime. The amount of perversion there is in just one episode. It’s ridiculous. One theory I have is that this anime was probably supposed to be a hentai; however, they ran out of money before they drew the sex scene. My reason for that theory is because there is so much barely censored sexual activity, such as oral sex with the girl’s panties still on and also a lolicon moment that happens a few minutes before the oral sex scene. And one can’t forget the ridiculous amount of groping and the many panties on display. It also doesn’t help that one of the girls even goes so far as to take off her dress and just be in her bra and panties. I did find that there is an uncensored version of the bath scene that takes place around 18 to 19 minutes in the episode.

Now what I find both stupid an a little amusing is how the girls act when they see the main male character. The girls all act like this, “OMG! It’s a boy! We should be sexy and stupid and chase after him like we’re mad when really we’re turned on. You can tell we’re turned on because some of us have such pointy nipples that they show through our clothes. Let’s mob him like we’re mad at his perverted self!”
It’s very annoying honestly.

So, here’s my rating: 1 out of 5.

Light Drawing Photography Tutorial

I have been emailed many times asking me, on the how to do light drawing that I have done in some of my figure photo shoots. Instead of replying to many emails, a post explaining it would be much simple.

You will need a tripod and small flash lights.

You will need a camera that lets you adjust the shutter speed. The slower the shutter Speed, the more time you have to draw. I usually have the shutter speed at 15 seconds. You need to be in a very dark room. The reason is that the longer the shutter is opened, the more light will come through. If your room is not dark, you will get nothing but white.

The reason you need a tripod or a stable flat surface, it is easier to do the drawing on your own. You can use any type of small flash light for drawing. The more colors you have, the more creative you can get.

Your creativity is limited by your imagination.

In this picture, I did quick flashes at different angles just to get multiple shadows.

Now give it a try and see what you come up with.

Winter 2010 Anime Season Part 1

I decided that I will try and watch the first episode of every new anime this winter season. After that, I will do a small review based off the first episode. This will be an interesting challenge for myself. I hope don't die in the end.

Chu-Bra!! is bad. The plot of this anime is simple, these a girl with an underwear fetish and she gets is wacky predicaments with her friends. There is also a ton of under age pantie shots for the whole family. I think the only type person would fully enjoy this anime is a 14 year old boy who has not watched porn yet.

Cobra The Animation was a total shocker for me. I remember back in the Summer 09 anime season, this anime was going to come out. It was canceled but for a valid reason. The studio that was making the series was also making 2 more Cobra OVA series at the same time. I was not expecting for a weekly series to come out. This anime will only appeal to those who watched the original 1982 anime series.

So-Ra-No-Wo-To is a breath of fresh air. I noticed a lot of people making fun of this anime by calling it "K-On! goes to war". The only similarity this anime has to K-On!, is the animation style and that is it. For some strange reason, this anime has a calming effect on me. The musical score is superb and I'm looking forward for when the soundtrack is released.

So, what are your opinions on these anime series?

I'm glad that I did not preorder the first Black Rock Shooter figure because a better looking version is coming out. And also, her price is much cheaper. There are other figures that I'm interested in, but I'm not going to bore you with that. So, what are you going to preorder?

2010 New Year's Resolution

Well, it's the New Year of 2010. As such, we, Otaku Dan and Kararu-chan, feel the need to post our New Year's Resolutions. So, here they are.

Otaku Dan:
1.) Become more physically active.
2.) Get a job so I won't be relying on my grants.
3.) Spend more time with my sweetheart.
4.) Make 5 million dollars.
5.) Learn how to control my spending.
6.) Ride a dolphin.

Kararu-chan:

In the United States, the moe trend is not that big. Right now companies mostly focus on anime series that would appeal to casual fans. For those who want to see moe anime would have to rely on fansubs. There is a plethora of moe anime series out there. But there are two that I would like see out on DVD.

K -On! is about four high school girls who join their school's light music club and their antics. The plot sounds boring but the popularity of this anime is contributed to the characters. Love it or hate it, you that there character design is very cute. The company that I see licensing this anime would be Bandai Entertainment. They already licensed two well known anime series made by Kyoto Animation, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star. K-On! is right up their alley.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu is about the normal high school student Yuto Ayase finding out that his classmate is a closet otaku. The thing is his classmate is Haruka Nogizaka, the school's Idol. They become friends and over time the relationship grows close. The first season was well liked by most anime fans when it was first aired. As for the second season, it can go f*ck itself for all I care. A company that I would see licensing this anime is Anime Works.

So, moe anime series would you like to see out in DVD?

It is about time I got this figure. I liked this figure when it first came out but I was saving my money for other things. It was until recently someone was selling her on Tsuki Board and I had some extra cash to spend. I would have to say that this is one of the better looking Miku Hatsune figures released in the last 2 years.

Otaku Magazine

For a long time, I have become bored of most mainstream anime magazines. Most of them are just flooded with ads and most of the writing feels forced. I started searching for an independent alternative. Then one day, discovered Otaku Magazine. Well one can say, it found me.

Those are some nice covers.

Otaku Magazine is a biannual publication, printed in limited edition, and distributed worldwide. The one thing I like about thing magazine, it that everything is user created. That includes the front cover, articles, illustrations, and comics. If you are every interested in submitting any work, just make sure that it is related to its theme.

If you do get an issue of Otaku Magazine, make sure to spread the word. I would like to see in the future this magazine coming out every 3 months instead.

An Otaku Christmas Carol

So, Otaku Dan and I decided to write up another Otaku twist on a holiday classic. Here is what we came up with for the holiday classic of "A Christmas Carol". It is now "An Otaku Christmas Carol". Enjoy!

Scrooge-sama was walking down the hallways of his school with a smug look on his face. He is the President of The Anime Club and has the biggest perversion complex with a big attitude of “he is always right”. It didn’t make things any better that Christmas was approaching. The other students began to whisper to each other as they noticed Scrooge-sama with his usual smug smile.

“You know I heard that he’s an ego maniac. How did he even become the President of The Anime Club?” One of the girls asked another girl.

He finally arrives to the club room on Christmas Eve and the only person that is his actual friend, James is in the room waiting for him. James is doing the paper work for a future anime convention that they are going to. When Scrooge entered the room James greated him saying, “Happy Holidays.” Scrooge’s smug smile instantly turned into a frown.

“Humbug, what’s so great about this season?” Scrooge looks to James like he’s stupid. James sighed.

“The season is about people coming together and helping your fellow men.”

Scrooge scoffed and replied, “You mean helping your fellow man, which is me. If anything this season should be about me because I’m perfect. Now, you said that you had something important to tell me. What is it?”

James shook his head and brushed it off. “What I wanted to tell you is really more of an invitation to a party tonight to celebrate Christmas Eve.” He looked hopeful at Scrooge, though he had a feeling that his invitation will be for naught. It seemed Scrooge was actually considering about going but then completely destroyed what little hope was left in James.

“I’m not going to a stupid party to celebrate a stupid holiday. I have better things to do, “ Scrooge said as he walked around the room in arrogance. In his mind he pictured the perfect girls in his H-games and chuckled under his breath as he imagined all the things he could do to them. Tell the girls how beautiful they are so he could see their big breasts uncovered. Hear their sweet voices tease him make him horny.

James recognized that look. He groaned inward and grabbed the papers. “So, you’re not going to the party. That’s a shame.” He walks to the door and says one last time, “Merry Christmas Scrooge-sama.”

Scrooge scoffed. “Christmas…bah!” He took one last look around the room and then took off to his house.

It was a few hours before Scrooge was going off to bed in his room filled with figures that looked like beautiful anime girls when while he was playing his favorite H-game the screen went from sexy girl to a picture of the former President of The Anime Club. He then appeared outside the screen next to Scrooge in a ghostly form. “Scrooge-sama, you are an arrogant young man and I have come here to warn you that you would-“ Scrooge cut him off with a question, “Why are you so ghostly looking when you aren’t dead? You graduated last year, and I think I saw you a few days ago.”

The former President’s eye ticked, “That’s not the point. Look, three ghosts are going to visit you tonight whether you like it or not. Now I’m going to leave you in your stupidity. Have fun.” With an annoyed look on his face, the former President disappeared and Scrooge sat there wondering if his drinks were spiked with some type of drug.

He then fell asleep at his desk with drool coming out of his mouth and mumbling out the things he wants to do to his favorite H-game character, Neko-chan.

It wasn’t much longer when white smoke was on the computer screen and seeped out to cover the air above Scrooge’s body. As the smoke slowly woke him up he saw the image of Neko-chan standing next to him with her cute big eyes watching him. As his mind began to process that he was seeing her in real life he jumped up then fell to the floor and says, “I’ve finally lost my mind.”

“No silly, nya.” She smiled sweetly at him. “I’m here for real as the spirit of your Christmas past, nya.” Her long black cat tail was waving cutely as she smiled wide.

Scrooge pinched his arm and as he felt it hurt him he believed that this must be the most realistic dream ever. ‘Well,’ he thought to himself, ‘if this dream has Neko-chan in it, it can’t be bad.’ He then began to unzip his pants until Neko-chan noticed and stopped him.

“What are you doing you pervert, nya?” she gave him a stern, but really cute look. Scrooge’s face went blank and then he hung his head. ‘Damn it. She turned me down.’ He looked back up at her as he remembered something, “Well this is a dream, right?”

“No, nya. Now let me take you to your past, nya.” Neko-chan grabbed Scrooge’s arm and dragged him to the door when he asked, “What do you mean my paaaa~st?” Neko-chan’s cat ears were perked and she said, “I mean your Christmas pasts silly, nya.” She giggled cutely and it gave Scrooge a stiffy. ‘God she’s so cute and beautiful.’

“Stop checking me out, nya.” Neko-chan gave him that same stern look as before. Her tail continued to wave around and her cat ears were a little pulled back to show slight annoyance. “Pay attention, nya.”

Scrooge looked to the scene before him and saw that it was when he was ten years old. It was Christmas and his first present he opened was the box set of the anime “Tigermon Z”. His face was so full of joy; he smiled so brightly. “Awesome!” his ten year old self exclaimed. “I’ve been wanting this so badly!” He looked to his parents and got up to go hug them. “Thanks Mom and Dad!”

“This was when I was ten. I remember that Christmas. It was so awesome!” Scrooge smiled smugly.

Neko-chan blinked. “Why was it awesome, nya? Because of the anime, nya?” Scrooge shook his head.

“No,” he replied. “It’s because I was with my Mother and Father.” As he reminisced on those feelings of joy from that particular time, it caused him to feel sad that he doesn’t get those feelings anymore.

He then wakes up in his room and he sees a maid looking at him. “You’re wide awake my master. I am the ghost of Christmas Present.”

She smiled sweetly. “Let’s go visit where your friend James is at.” She and Scrooge magically appear floating above the karaoke bar that James and the other club members are at. They were celebrating Christmas Eve by singing anime songs and having fun. Everyone was getting along and laughing happily. As Scrooge looked around, he saw all the wonderful foods they were eating and noticed the many anime products there, including a few that he’s been wanting.

He looked to the maid and asked, “What’s the point of this?”

The maid answers, “Don’t you see what you’re missing? You could be here having fun with your friend James and be somewhat likeable, yet you were selfish and thinking only about yourself.” Her stern, little voice cut through his mind and Scrooge began to understand a little bit of what the sexy little maid told him.

She smiled as she saw that what she said was getting to him. He seemed to really be paying attention now. He looked around the karaoke bar and realized that it wouldn’t have been a bad idea to accept the invite James gave him earlier.

He wakes up again. “Damn this dream!” As he gets up from his desk and turns around, there it was. Mechazinger T was standing before him.

“Let me guess, you’re the ghost of Christmas Future,” he says with a sweat drop. Mechazinger T replies robotically, “Affirmative.”

“So now what?” Scrooge asked Mechazinger T opened a portal and throws Scrooge into it. Scrooge is back in his room and looks around, “wait a minute. I’m back in my room.” He looks toward his desk and sees a fat balding man. “So who’s this slob?” He was silent for a while then he reacted in horror. “No! It can’t be! That can’t be me! Can it?!” He fell to the floor in despair.

Mechazinger T answers robotically again, “That is you in the future, due to you alienating everyone in your life and you fell into a deep depression in hatred and died alone in your room.”

Scrooge cried sorrowfully saying” I will change! I will change! Give me another chance! Please, another chance!”

He wakes up on the floor crying with tear down his eyes. He opens his window and it’s light outside. He sees the neighbor kid and asks, “what day is it today?”

He replies dryly, “It Christmas you weird Otaku.”

Scrooge calls James on the phone. James answers, “What happened?” He asked in a tired voice.

“James! James! Call and round up all of the club members to meet me in the park at noon,” Scrooge said frantically.

“You sound very excited this morning. Sure, I’ll do it.” They then hang up.

The clubs members were at the park and Scrooge appeared with boxes of pizzas and drinks. He then began a speech.

“So I know that I have not been the best president of this great anime club. I have realized how selfish I had become and how I have not taken anyone else’s feelings into consideration. This is my apology to everyone about how awful of a person I have been. So I’m sorry and Merry Christmas! Dig in!”

Everyone accepted his apology and began to raid the many boxes of pizza. And James speaks up with a pizza slice in his hand. “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
