Maintains, services, sets up, tests, and troubleshoots equipment and provides technical assistance to the Anesthesia staff in the care of patients.<br><br>PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br>1. Assists the anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment.<br>2. Assists anesthesiologists in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: Transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; Positioning and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; Assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment; Assist in transfer from operating room to PACU.<br>3. Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment.<br>4. Prepares blood pressure transducers.  Calibrates them to the appropriate machine.  Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions.<br>5. Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits.  Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed.<br>6. Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary.<br>7. Assist the Clinical Engineering group with various projects, including machine modification and data accumulation.<br>8. Takes on call rotation to provide technical support for surgical anesthesia.<br>9. Will provide any assistance necessary to maintain a continually high standard of patient care. </td></tr><tr> <td valign="top" align="left"><br><font size=1>Requirements:</font></td></tr><tr> <td valign="top" align="left">QUALIFICATIONS<br><br>Associates degree in Science or equivalent education.  In lieu of formal education, minimum of three years experience with equipment calibration, first level repairs, and testing and troubleshooting of clinical equipment may be considered.<br><br>Three years experience in an OR setting preferred.<br><br>BCLS preferred, but training will be provided.  Successful completion within the first 90 days of employment required.  Training in autotransfusion preferred.  (Training will be provided if necessary).<br><br>SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED<br><br>Ability to follow detailed instructions.<br><br>Knowledge of physical and mathematical principles.<br><br>Good manual dexterity and ability to use common hand tools.<br><br>Ability to think quickly and good judgment.<br><br>Excellent visual acuity.<br><br>Ability to work well under extreme pressure and stress.<br><br>Ability to remain on feet for up to 80% of work time, lift and carry loads up to 25 pounds, and push rolling equipment weighing several hundred pounds.<br><br>Ability to work in a hospital environment and deal closely and effectively with a variety of professional staff (physicians and nurses) up to 100% of work time.  Experience with working in OR environment 100% of work time, including knowledge of appropriate conduct in an OR and familiarity with aseptic technique.<br><br>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/JOB CONDITIONS<br><br> High stress <b>working conditions</b> due to OR environment which may include the following: tight schedules, emergency surgery, and the critical nature of the care provided. Major functions include, but are not limited to: patient transport, cleaning and stocking of area.  Works under the direction of the nursing and administrative personnel in assigned work areas and is ultimately responsible to the supervisor of PCA in OR or the nurse director in Labor andamp; Birth.<br><br>Promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patient, families and hospital personnel. Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guest, patients and families. Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas and other patient services.  Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.<br><br><b>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b><br>1. Transport patient to and from the area, properly identifies patients, aware of special procedures and of special precautions in transferring patients in isolation.<br>2. Assists in the transfer of patients to and from stretchers and beds. Ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer, i.e., bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm, beds cleaned between patients.<br>3. Knows special procedures application regarding specialized equipment and instrumentation, i.e., fracture table preparation.<br>4. Cleans rooms between procedures with speed and effectiveness. Anticipates procedure completion in advance and has supplies ready for immediate cleaning. Has knowledge of special cleaning procedures for certain situations, i.e., MRSA.<br>5. General housekeeping duties throughout the area, i.e.:fill solutions in warmers and sink dispensers empty trash and linen hampers, restock blankets, gowns and brushes in containers mop floors when required. (Mops and buckets should be prepared at all times) keep all areas cleaned and free of trash and debris.<br>6. Knows procedures specific to each area, (i.e., Day Surgery and PACU).<br>7. Additional O.R. Duties; Helps to hold limbs and position patients as requested. Assists anesthesiologists in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: Transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; Positioning and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; Assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment; Assist in transfer from operating room to PACU.<br>3. Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment.<br>4. Prepares blood pressure transducers.  Calibrates them to the appropriate machine.  Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions.<br>5. Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits.  Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed.<br>6. Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary.<br>7. Assist the Clinical Engineering group with various projects, including machine modification and data accumulation.<br>8. Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guest, patients and families. Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas and other patient services.  Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.<br><br><b>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b><br>1. Transport patient to and from the area, properly identifies patients, aware of special procedures and of special precautions in transferring patients in isolation.<br>2. Ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer, i.e., bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm, beds cleaned between patients.<br>3. Additional O.R. Duties; Helps to hold limbs and position patients as requested.
