Recent news has been added to Otland.net stating that a new OTServ Support Team will arise for newcomers and people who need general help. I personally think it is a good idea. This will encourage people to actually ask for help and existing support threads will not be missed.

Support Team Members will gain free premium at Otland.net and have more of a chance to become a board moderator.
Ofcourse, this title will not be easy to get, you will have to support alot of people over a certain amount of time, which is great. It will motivate you more to give support to people. You can read the full story below.

The site has pretty much died these past 3 or so years due to my busy work schedule and lack of interest in the OTserv project. I'd like to see the domain OTservnews.org receive a good home. Any buyers interested in the domain can reach me at DeathfireD+OTservnews@gmail.com. I'm asking for $270 USD or best offer. This sale is only for the domain OTservnews.org and NOT for the site code. The site code and any other sites that I have made and hosted under otservnews.org sub domains will still be made available on my web server (ordway.ath.cx) for historical purposes.

Friday OTfan's launched their 5th redesign of the forum. This update not only gives the site a much needed face lift but it also puts the home page to good use by publishing popular tutorials.

Here's a quote from GriZzm0 Link here.
Today we've launched OTFans version 5. This version update includes vBulletin 4 with a lot of new features and a new theme. Sadly we lost parts of the update in a hard drive crash and had to rush it. But don't worry, we'll tweak the site from time to time until we are there.

The homepage is currently a bit empty but will be filled up with tutorials and articles. If a tutorial in the tutorial section is good enough it will get promoted to an article and posted on the front page. Blogs will also be enabled for server owners or perhaps even everybody in the near future.
The hosted forums tab will be back soon enough and perhaps even the wiki in the future, but not right now.

We hope you like the new theme. If not, give us feedback on how to improve it.

Kind regards, the OTFans.net Staff.
The YATC team has released version 0.3.2 of YATC. This version brings many changes, the most notable being the new light system that Adelae contributed. Khaos confesses in his thread he's been lazy these past 8 months but thanks to the motivation and hard work from nfries88, Ormin, Kilouco, FightingElf, Thomac and especially Adelae this version was released.

Jopirop has embarked on a retro journey to creation a 6.4 Tibia server from scratch. Yes you heard me right, 6.4 from scratch. So far he's got the basic functionality done (ie. logging in, chatting, fighting monsters) and has released a video of his progress (see thread link). You can find his original thread located here http://otfans.net/showthread.php?t=162717 .

For those of you that remember using Tibia's 6.4 client this will surly bring back some fond yet disturbing memory's. For those that haven't used 6.4, well I'm sure it will give you a glimpse into Tibia's past.

For years we've had OTServ, which has become a suitable free software replacement for the official Tibia servers.
Now YATC has also become a suitable free software replacement for the official Tibia client.
Now, all that we need to be able to make a completely free software Tibia is probably the most important part - graphics!

It's been 2 weeks since I tweeted that the site would be down due to upgrades but it wasn't till today that I actually got to make the server live haha. In any case OTserv News and all sites hosted on ordway.ath.cx are rocking out on a much faster server then the one I've been using since 1999. With that said the site should load much faster. Expect to see some more news being posted, possibly some site changes, and maybe even some new features.

Are Donate Server Wrong?

sheep herder2 has started a thread proclaiming his disgust for hosters trying to make a quick buck without putting any effort or originality into their server. His thoughts are very reasonable. Why should people hosting a pre-made and unedited OTserv distro on a personal computer, most likely on a cable line their parents pay for, get donation money?

Heres a quote from his thread
What i think is, if your going to have a donate feature on your server, atleast have 2 or more of these options

1) Server is actually hosted by a company/server
2) The map is custom, not the same map everyone seems to use for every server
3) Instead of using all the same monsters, that people made custom (and are now . being used on pretty much every single server) why not make your own? its not . hard
4) Customize the donation items, use different sprites/item effects
5) Make your own NPCs, instead of having each generic NPC.. (Or, customize the . ones you have now)

Originality has long since become an endangered species in the OT community. With servers and CMSs coming out where all one has to do is run an .exe and install apache, it's no wonder why people don't try dabbling in the art of LUA or C++ anymore. What are your thoughts on this matter loyal readers? Is adding a donation button on a server youre hosting from your own computer with nothing hand made wrong? You can vote and voice your opinion in sheep herder2's thread here http://otfans.net/showthread.php?p=1334944 Read More

Hey guys it's been a long time since anything has been submitted on OTserv News. We're in need of some writers to submit content on a regular basis (articles, latest OTserv community happenings, new program reviews...etc). If any of you are interested you can start by going to the Submit page and contributing that way.

The site will, at some point, have another face lift. Not sure when yet but I'm already working out some plans that will hopefully alleviate this lack of news problem. Until then please submit some content!

Thanks,
