5 Ways to Tie Springtime into Your Wedding

Destination weddings are becoming a trend in Alberta as the number of bookings for such weddings increased significantly last year amongst Albertans.

According to the reports from AMA Travel, destination weddings increased by 8 percent in 2009 from the all-time record number set in 2008.

150 destination weddings were booked by the group travel specialists of AMA travel alone. These travelling groups were as many as 80 people in 2009.

AMA Travel’s director of business development, Andrew Hopkyns, said that one of the main reasons for this trend is the cost. He said that marriage is recession proof; Regardless of the economy, people get fall in love and get married. However, it is costly to have a wedding in Calgary in the month of June, so people settle for other destinations.

Danielle Bruce, office manager of Travel Cuts, agreed to what Hopkyns said. She said that the costs and the expected number of guests are truly important factors on where couples decide to get married.

Furthermore, Bruce said that when couples plan their wedding budgets, guests, and venues, destination weddings usually come into play. A destination wedding is a good option for couples who have financially-able and cooperative guests, or if they want to have a low key wedding with immediate family members only.

According to AMA reports Punta Cana and the Mayan Rivera are the two most preferred wedding destinations; Jamaica and Cuba are tied in third.

Nevertheless, wedding venues in Ottawa are equally as beautiful and as romantic as these places.

My thoughts are with the thousands upon thousands of women and children who are not as blessed as we are to have the basic right of freedom to be who they were created to be. I’m talking about the victims of prostitution slavery, the industry that we’ve come to know as human trafficking.

Over one million women and children are exploited in the global commercial sex trade each year, according to the U.S. Department of State. Although, sex trafficking is happening everywhere, including the U.S. and Canada, our focus this year will be in partnering with the work of  Breaking Chains Network out of Belgium.

Last year we developed the website for http://www.RunForRescue.org to aid the women in Cambodia and this year I’ve decided to step up to the plate and do a little more then that.  I’ve decided to do the run myself too and on March 7th 2010, I will be running the Walt Disney World 20+ km (13 mile) half marathon.

The money raised is going to help women in Belgium on every level physical, emotional and spiritual.  I’m asking you to partner with me and although you may not physically run with me, you can  still be a part of rescuing women and children. Your donation can make a difference in the lives of women who have yet to discover freedom.

Hillary Duff will marry Mike Comrie.

Hillary Duff is officially engaged to her NHL player boyfriend Mike Comrie confirming the rumors of the actress’ imminent walk on the isle.

Duff, who recently appeared on the television show Gossip Girl, would soon be hearing wedding bells as confirmed by her representatives. According to her rep, Nancy Ryder, the 29-year-old Edmonton Oiler, Mike Comrie, has indeed proposed.

Ryder said on Friday that the Duff and Comrie, after dating for 2 years, are very glad and excited to announce this happy news. Furthermore, she said that they are very thankful for any warm wishes.

Early in their relationship, Comrie, when he was still playing for the New York Islanders, once surprised Duff with a Mercedes Benz for her 22nd birthday.

Duff, on the other hand, once said that she read “Hockey for Dummies’ in order to better comprehend Comrie. She also became a religious attendant of Comrie’s hockey games. She has been seen plenty of times in the stands of the Edmonton Oilers.

When Comrie played for the Ottawa Senators, Duff was always there to cheer him on together with another famous celebrity, Carrie Underwood, whose boyfriend Mike Fisher also played for the team.

As a former Ottawa Senator, maybe Comrie would consider having his wedding in Ottawa.

The Houses of Parliament in England

The Houses of Parliament in England, for the first time in history, will now be available to public weddings. Two rooms in the Palace in Westminster have been approved by the Westminster City Council to be used for civil partnerships and weddings. Only MP’s, peers, and parliamentary officials and their families have been allowed to conduct conventional weddings in the place until now.

The place has been approved to be used for wedding venues until 2013. A room overlooking the Cromwell Green, the Jubilee Room, can accommodate 80 people whilst the MP’s dining room, which overlooks the Thames, can accommodate 150.

Alison Cathcart, Westminster’s Superintendent Registrar for 20 years who had married famous celebrities like Joan Collins, Barbara Windsor, and Sylvester Stallone, approved Westminster City Council’s move.

According to her, she feels delighted that the celebrated venue has been granted approval and that she looks forward to conduct the first civil ceremony in such historical setting.

Furthermore, she said that this will add more options for Westminster couples, along with many other venues in Westminster, on where they would decide to tie the knot.

Authorities have been approving venues for wedding since 1995 as long as they deem that the premises in question and the management would preserve the dignity of marriage.

On a side note, the House of Commons in Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada, has 300 seats and a throne. It is one of the best wedding venues in Ottawa.
