Baldur Guitar Trio

Tom Edskes posted a couple of photos on Facebook among which this photo of the Baldur Guitar Trio. The trio exists for two third of my guitars. Tom (left) is playing a fifth bass guitar and Robin Scherpen (right) is playing a requinto. The guitarist in the middle is called Sjors Holleboom.

This is Yves Herremans, a amiable man and gifted guitar player. For more than fourty years now, he owns a succesfull guitar shop in the centre of Brussels. Last week I personally delivered my new guitar. It’s always nice to visit Yves.

Efrén Gorrostieta Hurtado is a real renaissance man.
A guitarist as well as an engineer, professor as well as researcher.
When he got his new guitar he wrote me

Chia Wei Lin visited me in my workshop last month. He is a very promising young guitarist from Taiwan, now studying with Hubert Käppel at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. I met him for the first time when he was still a little boy. I was very impressed by his playing. I had all reasons to as you can see in the video in which he is 12 years old.

Ruben Silva Kas

This is Ruben Silva Kas, thirteen years old. Last month he won the second prize of the Princes Christina Junior Competition and after that he came to the workshop with his father to buy a new guitar. He is very happy with it and recorded a couple of video’s with it. Ruben is a student of Lydia Kennedy at the Academie Muzikaal Talent

venues in Holland

Every now and then guitarists ask me about venues in Holland so I made a list of Dutch guitar series and festivals I know of. I will try to keep the list updated. If you think your festival or venue is missing, let me know.

And last but not least Meesters op de Gitaar which I organize together with Esther. The programming of the series for 2012/13 is ready. The series consists of three concerts. We have a board which decides who to invite. If we survive next season, deadline programming season 2013/14 will be around December 2012.

Alfredo Huang

This is Alfredo Huang, a Taiwanese guitarist who I met years ago, during my first visit to Taiwan. He is a very active player who works as a soloist as well as an accompanist, mainly of the Korean soprano Ko Suk-Kyung, his wife and former fellow student at the Real Conservatorio de Madrid.

Besides as a performer, Alfredo is also very much appreciated as a professor. He regularly shows videos of his students on the internet like this, of a guitar quartet of which all members are playing my instruments.

Last week I visited Ralf Winkelmann, one of the nicest people I know. He is a German guitarist, teacher and organizer of a concert series. His last project was composing music for Frederick, a production of das Bremer Figurentheater of which he is playing a small part in this ‘candid camera’ video.
