One of the worst things we have in modern life is the competitive mind

I have forgotten where I heard or maybe saw that quote, but it can be fairly true; I have also seen this quote.

Your only competition is yourself

I have not blog lately but I have had realizations on personal development level that I would like to share with you.

I have had these thoughts for quite sometime now. I have not really expressed or shared them to anyone as it may seem different by others.

You see, I am also greatly involved in pick up arts and/or dating advice; During my journey towards my success at that endeavor, I have had read maybe hundreds of books and a number of hours of videos about it.

Those material vary greatly in their approach, but during my quest I have thought of traits that I deem “must haves” for every but not limited to aspiring pick up artists, but also to us ordinary citizen who wants to improve themselves.

Here I listed down the characteristics that a person must have, for them to grasp their true potential, and to further their goals.

Vision/Goal Oriented Thinking

- First, I’ll share with you what Wikipedia says about vision.

Vision: Defines the desired or intended future state of an organization or enterprise in terms of its fundamental objective and/or strategic direction.

Vision may answer the question; What do you want to be when you grow up?

We have many dreams and aspirations and the people who succeed are the ones who stick with them the most.

A vision is a long term goal. A goal, a picture of what you are really wanting out of this life.

One of the things that I really want in life is to have an influence as to being a guitarist. I want to play at the world stage. I want to play in front of large audiences and scream my hearts out.

Now, that is a vision. It is a vision as it takes a long time to pursue. To pursue that kind of dream means to find star band members, the ones that are aligned with what you want to achieve; Band members who also want to play at the world stage.

That is sometimes difficult to achieve as to people have different preferences. You’ve got to work yourself up there.

Find those people, and not just people, but find the experiences, the activities, the people, the tasks, the habits, the books, or just anything that could influence you to further improve you and to deliver to your vision.

What is/are your vision/visions?

Creative Thinking to Solution Oriented Thinking

- People who don’t have a vision won’t have or even tend to go for a solution oriented thinking. They will just rely on answers that are bestowed on them and not even acting upon the circumstances that they are in.

Always remind yourself this. If you plan to be world class you need to solve your own problems. Don’t fully rely on others. You can seek help if necessary.

2.5 Recall – I plan to put this as the third but I guess it is more appropriate this way.

Recall, this ability is tied with creative thinking or to having solution oriented thinking.

Recall is digging old experiences, old knowledge and old wisdom and applying or connecting them with your present struggles.

You may have had some problems in the past that surely you had solved but then that doesn’t stop from there.

You will encounter hindrances and from those hindrances you will apply experiences from your past to get past through them, that is recall.

Self Discipline and Consistency /Habit

- Self Discipline is one of the most hardest and most accomplishing trait of all. It is the trait that sets our habits that in turn can lead us to our goal.

There’s a saying:

Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Indeed, it is true. A good sense of your vision will keep you motivated and will keep you on the right track for you to achieve your goal.

Realization

- This characteristic is more than understanding.

Realization is attained when we surpassed the wisdom or understanding that we’ve think we know.

Being in business I was always told that the middle class works through labor while the world class works through leverage. I know that. I don’t know if I understood it.

Recently, I had a TV guesting. In a short amount of exposure time my audience multiplied. By them, I understood and realized what leverage means.

Realization is knowing in actuality what you already think you know. It is knowing that you can do more better because you’ve actually seen the future of it. Realization is like proving your own theories right.

Relaxation

- This is an epitome that you must also strive for. Being in a state of flow and relaxation. The state of pure focus and positive energy accompanied by serenity and calmness.

Being relaxed is the state of the world class. They remain entirely focused on their art. Better, they embody the art.

You’re only competition is yourself. You are the one solely responsible if you achieved your goals or not, so start now. Have a set of vision, focus on it. Have self Discipline. Know your way around it by being solution oriented. Have the habit of keeping yourself motivated, and during your journey may you realize world class thoughts that would not just lead you to your goals but also help others lead them to theirs.

So maybe YOU want to accomplish something? That something could be anything? A Good singer? The Best football player? An Award winning writer perhaps?

We want to accomplish something, but how could we know that we’ve already accomplish what we want?

Abstract

Let us read back the title “Is Goal Setting Enough? A Simple Technique to Outgrow Yourself“

What we are going to discuss here is How to Have a Goal, achieve it and How to even Surpass it.

Make it Measurable

As we look at the sample goals that we’ve written above, we are simply looking at intangible goals. How could a person know that he or she is a good singer? How could a person know that he or she is the best football player? How could a person know that he is an award winning writer?

Make it measurable. In our discussion, math will be important. A person could be a good singer in terms of album sales, or maybe pith range or any other sort of qualities a singer could reach.

The best football player? A person could aim for a certain goal; most number of goals in a game perhaps, or the only goalie who didn’t let any ball get through his territory.

The trick is to specify your goal, and make a good use of math.

For instance my goal in writing this post is to make a post about personal development especially goal setting and write around 1500 words for it.

With that it will seam totally easy. With a goal of 1500 words, once you’ve reached it you would have already done your goal, and when you surpassed it even going up to 3000 words, then you’ve surpassed it.

Record Everything

Record everything. This is very crucial if you don’t have a record of what you are doing then you maybe are traveling in a circular road. Thinking that you are doing everything that you can but the truth is that you are not, cause you don’t know if you are going to exert more effort or not. You don’t have a record!

Track Your Results

Track your Results. If you are recording your results you can track if you are improving or not. You could also know if you must exert more effort.

Maybe you were trying to improve your speed reading skills. the last book that you’ve read is a 400 page book and you’ve finished it in 4 hours. (with good comprehension. lol)

So if you’ve record your time and accomplishment; 400 pages in 4 hours. You could now track them and know if you must need to further improve. You’ve decided to read again another 400 page book in 3.5 hours.

If you’ve achieved it, thank recording and tracking your results. :)

A little example and How I came up with this idea

These past days I’ve been working out. I’m underweight and thin. This was worse than before because with my age and height I must be 40 lbs heavier.

Also worse because, like 2 years ago I was even heavier.

So I decided to head back, heat things up and run some sweat. I started working out.

Work out after work out, I don’t know if I am getting bigger or gaining more weight gaining mass! I wasn’t tracking what I’ve done. I’m not even recording it.

So for now, I wasn’t focused on the weight or mass gain. I’ve grown fond of pull ups so now I’m trying to record and track how many repetitions that i could do in one set and in one day.

Example, I’ve done 65 repetitions in one set till failure. The next day I could add more repetitions like maybe trying to make 75 – 80 repetitions.

Old School tricks to help you out

These are some of the simple techniques that could help you out in your goal setting, recording and tracking of your results.

1. Journal – Also known as diary. I don’t really use a journal for my experiments and lifehacks. I just thought that we have different preferences and maybe a Journal could do for you.

A journal is easy to carry and this can be easy for those who goals in which can be achieved during they are on the go. (Like going 80 miles an hour on the road. And journal it; “wooohoooo, I’ve driven 80 mph inside a school ground with lots of children” lol)

2. White board – A white board can be big. This is one of my favorites. What you can write here can be easily edited and easily recognizable.

Imagine you have a big white board in your room and written on its center is your goal. So maybe every time you wake up you can see your goal and get reminded of it. You can also instantly and readily see your results and can also easily know if you need to do more of what you are trying to do.

3. Pen and Paper – A pen and a paper is still one of my favorites. Maybe you don’t want a journal and a white board is too expensive for you a simple pen and paper would do.

It is cheap. It is also good for editing your results. (Cross out your own record and write your new one.)

Again the important thing is to just record it and you can be reminded of it. Whether it be any material for recording. (Video perhaps)

Have a specific goal, and make good use of math. This will make your goal tangible and be easy to understand. Record everything. Track your results, know if you are improving or not.

- Happy Goal Setting.
