Syria protests are growing and the government increases the repression

The strict censorship Syria has failed to stop the video on some mass graves found in the south, near the city of Deraa, the area from where tthe anti-government protests started. Forty corpses of children, including women and children, testify once again the harsh repression of the Assad regime against the people in revolt.
Two days ago, during the "Freedom Friday", organized by opponents of the government, another carnage: according to the broadcaster Al-Jazeera, 34 people were killed, almost all young.

Starting tomorrow the European Union could toughen sanctions against the Damascus government and directly affect the family Bashar el Assad with the freezing of assets, as has already happened to other key members of the regime.

The reforms promised by the Raìs on the hottest days of the "Syrian Spring" seem more distant and for now, apart from some modest concessions, have not seen anything concrete and the level of violence against protesters has escalated very much.

In the complex Middle East situation there are those who have fear that Syria and Iran tighten even further its relations and join forces to silence the screams of millions of girls and boys who are clamoring for democracy and freedom in the squares of the two countries.

The attention focused on the Libyan conflict is a major advantage for the two regimes, which try at all costs not to leak anything that's going on in the squares and streets of major cities. Hold off the Internet, however, is not simple: no coincidence that the Syrian security forces have seized dozens of phones to people who had discovered the mass graves in Dera.

Siria: le proteste crescono e il governo accresce la repressione
La stretta maglia della censura siriana non è riuscita a fermare i video su alcune fosse comuni trovate a sud del paese, vicina alla città di Deraa, l’area da dove sono partite le proteste anti-governative. Quaranta cadaveri di ragazzi, ma anche donne e bambini, che testimoniano ancora una volta la dura repressione del regime di Assad sulla popolazione in rivolta.
Due giorni fa, durante il “venerdì della libertà” organizzato dagli oppositori al governo, ci sarebbe stata un’altra carneficina: secondo l’emittente Al-Jazeera le persone uccise sono 34, quasi tutti ragazzi.
A partire da domani l’Unione Europea potrebbe indurire le sanzioni contro il governo di Damasco e colpire direttamente la famiglia Bashar el Assad con il congelamento dei beni, come è già successo per altri membri chiave del regime.
Le riforme promesse dal raìs nei giorni più caldi della “primavera siriana” sembrano sempre più lontane e finora, a parte qualche timida concessione, non si è visto nulla di concreto e il livello di violenza contro i manifestanti ha subito un’escalation senza precedenti.
Nel complesso quadro mediorientale c’è chi teme che la Siria e l’Iran stringano ancora di più i propri rapporti e uniscano le proprie forze per far tacere le urla dei milioni di ragazzi e ragazzi che chiedono a gran voce democrazia e libertà nelle piazze dei due paesi.
L’attenzione focalizzata sul conflitto libico è un vantaggio maggiore per i due regimi, che tentano ad ogni costo di non far trapelare nulla di ciò che sta succedendo nelle piazze e nelle strade delle principali città. Tenere a bada Internet, però, non è semplice: non a caso le forze di sicurezza siriane hanno sequestrato decine di cellulari agli abitanti che avevano scoperto le fosse comuni a Deraa.
Ormai, però, era troppo tardi: diversi video della macabra scoperta sono stati pubblicati in rete e la smentita del governo sull’orribile fatto suona come un’ennesima beffa per il popolo siriano in ginocchio.

NOVEMBER 20: DON'T FORGET THE CHILDREN

Exactly 51 years since that November 20, 1959, when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, a sort of depth of that has been written in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

Exactly 21 years since that November 20, 1989, when the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. A very important document, ratified by almost every country in the world: almost all except Somalia and the United States.

The U.S. has refused to accede to the Treaty because it would abolish rules that allow to apply the death penalty or the life sentence to crimes committed by minors who have not completed eighteen years of age and, therefore, could be sentenced to death or imprisoned for life at the age of majority.

Two important steps to implement legislation to provide full protection for minors, the right to life, the right to adequate education, to protection against all forms of exploitation and abuse. It seems obvious to many people but, unfortunately, the reality is far from everything,

These latest data released by UNICEF: nearly 9 million children die of starvation before 5 years of life, 22 million children don't have a suitable vaccine for the most common diseases, 148 million children don't have enough food and over 100 million don't have a basic education. Many homeless or who are exploited and submissive. Not to mention the violence, physical, psychological and sexual, situations that are present in underdeveloped countries but also in industrialized countries.

It's therefore important to know the Convention and continue to fight so that all over the planet, from West to East, from South to North, children must be protected, defended and they must have the opportunity to become men who are capable of protect and preserve the lives of their own children. 20 novembre: non dimentichiamo i bambini

Sono passati esattamente 51 anni da quel 20 novembre 1959, quando l’Assemblea generale delle Nazioni Unite” ha adottato la Dichiarazione dei Diritti del Fanciullo, una sorta di approfondimento di quanto già scritto nella Dichiarazione Universale dei Diritti dell’Uomo del 1948.

Sono passati esattamente 21 anni da quel 20 novembre 1989, quando l’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite ha approvato la Convenzione Internazionale sui Diritti dell’Infanzia. Un documento molto importante, ratificato da quasi tutti i paesi del pianeta: quasi tutti, ad eccezione di Somalia e gli Stati Uniti.

Gli USA hanno rifiutato di aderire al trattato perché avrebbe dovuto abolire le norme che consentono di applicare la pena di morte o l’ergastolo ai reati compiuti dai minori che non hanno compiuto il diciottesimo anno d’età e che, quindi, potranno essere condannati a morte o reclusi a vita al compimento della maggiore età.

Due passi importantissimi per realizzare una normativa che consenta una tutela completa per i minori, dal diritto alla vita, al diritto ad un’istruzione adeguata, alla tutela contro tutte le forme di sfruttamento e di abuso. Sembrano cose ovvie per molti ma, purtroppo, la realtà è ancora lontana da tutto ciò,

Questi gli ultimi dati diffusi dall’Unicef: quasi 9 milioni di bambini muoiono di fame prima dei 5 anni di vita, 22 milioni di neonati non hanno una vaccinazione adeguata per le malattie più comuni, 148 milioni di minori non hanno un’alimentazione sufficiente e oltre 100 milioni non hanno un’istruzione di base. Tantissimi i senzatetto o i bambini che vengono sfruttati e sottomessi. Per non parlare delle violenze, fisiche, psicologiche e sessuali, presenti sia nei paesi sottosviluppati che nei paesi industrializzati.

E’ importante, quindi, conoscere questa Convenzione e continuare a lottare affinché in ogni parte del pianeta, dall’Occidente all’Oriente, dal Sud al Nord del mondo, i bambini siano tutelati, difesi e abbiano la possibilità di diventare uomini in grado di proteggere e tutelare la vita dei loro stessi figli. Pensare che questo sia un’utopia è la sconfitta stessa del genere umano.

IRAN: UN COMMITTEE DENOUNCES THE CONTINUING VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

According to a resolution presented by the Commission on Human Rights at the UN General Assembly on the situation in different countries, in Iran there are "grave and sustained violations of human rights." Death sentences for political reasons, torture, amputation, stoning, flogging, are practices still present in the country, especially against non-aligned government people in Tehran.

This state of affairs is not new and was reported by many organizations that have shown an escalation of the iron fist in the country, particularly during the Ahmadinejad government. The protests against the elections of 2009 have further exacerbated the situation and the harshness of the regime has intensified.

Iran's response to the accusations in the resolution have not had to wait: Mohammad Javad Larijani, the general secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights has said the document is an a shameful and wrong document and it's not conform to reality. Larijani has also pointed the finger again at the U.S., guilty of having invented the accusations to incite the international community against his country.

Larijani, however, ignores one thing: the complaints in the resolution are unfortunately documented and witnessed firsthand by the Iranians themselves: the use of the Internet, particularly social networks and blogs (Iran is the third highest number of bloggers) is a thorn in the side of those that, like Larijani, awkwardly trying to hide the crimes of the regime of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad against its own people. Iran: Commissione ONU denuncia la continua violazione dei diritti umani

Secondo una risoluzione presentata dalla Commissione Diritti Umani dell'Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite sulla situazione di vari paesi, in Iran vi sono delle “gravi e continue violazioni dei diritti umani”. Condanne a morte per motivi politici, torture, amputazioni, lapidazioni, frustate sono delle pratiche ancora presenti nel paese, soprattutto ai danni dei non allineati al governo di Teheran.

Le denunce di questo stato delle cose non sono una novità e già da tempo diverse organizzazioni hanno evidenziato un'escalation del pugno duro nel paese, in particolare durante i governi Ahmadinejad. Le proteste contro le elezioni del 2009 hanno aggravato ulteriormente la situazione e la durezza del regime si è intensificata.

La risposta dell'Iran alle accuse presenti nella risoluzione non si sono fatte attendere: Mohammad Javad Larijani, il segretario generale dell'Alto Consiglio iraniano per i diritti umani ha parlato di un'accusa vergognosa e di un documento sbagliato e non conforme alla realtà. Anche questa volta Larijani ha puntato il dito contro gli USA, colpevoli di aver inventato le accuse per istigare la comunità internazionale contro il paese.

Larijani, però, non tiene conto di una cosa: le denunce presenti nella risoluzione sono fatti purtroppo documentati e testimoniati in prima persona dagli stessi iraniani: l'uso di Internet, in particolare dei social network e dei blog (l'Iran è al terzo posto per numero di blogger) è una spina nel fianco per chi, come Larijani, tenta di nascondere goffamente i crimini del regime di Khamenei e Ahmadinejad contro il proprio popolo.

INDIA: young lovers tortured and killed because of different religions

There are some moments when a living being beyond all limits of morality and ethics and, in most cases, is the Human Being, the creature more intelligent, is guilty of such acts. Beliefs, absurd laws, violence, are common practices in most countries, even in areas where the economy, the political and military power have brought greater prosperity and modernity than a few decades ago '. Reena was a girl of 16 years old, Shyam Mohammand instead was 19 years old: they both lived in a small town in Haryana, northern state of India. As often happens at that age, love begins to enter in daily life and the innocence of kids, little more than children, make it all very pure, sweet and romantic. But it is not always so, especially when these feelings come up against the stupidity and madness of adults.

Hindu herself, Muslim himself, a situation inconceivable for the village council, which decided to end the story between two young lovers. First tortured and then executed as if this were not enough, the bodies of two boys were placed in the schoolyard who went up yesterday, almost as a warning to all comrades, friends and acquaintances.

It sais that religion is Love, respect, tolerance and defense of the weakest, but also a means to overcome differences and deal with other faiths. In many, too many cases, however, it becomes a weapon ruthless, demonic and so odious crimes by blotting showing the dark and vulgar side of human beings, transforming the World into Hell. Shyam and Reena were killed for exceeding the limits and charges, for not having prejudices, and have loved to have met despite religion, race, beliefs. All this in 2010.

INDIA: due fidanzatini torturati e uccisi perchè di religione diversa

Ci sono momenti in cui un essere vivente supera qualsiasi limite di moralità ed etica e, nella maggior parte dei casi, è l'Uomo, la creatura più intelligente, a rendersi colpevole di tali atti. Credenze, assurde leggi, violenza, sono pratiche diffuse nella maggior parte dei paesi del mondo, anche nelle zone dove l'economia e il potere politico e militare hanno portato maggior benessere e modernità rispetto a qualche decennio fa'. Pensiamo, ad esempio, all'India, una delle economie emergenti più promettenti del pianeta ma dove ancora, purtroppo, accadono fatti sconcertanti, soprattutto nei centri rurali e lontani dalla modernità e dal cambiamento. Reena era una ragazza di 16 anni, Shyam Mohammand invece era un diciannovenne: entrambi vivevano in un piccolo paese dell'Haryana, stato del nord dell'India. Come accade spesso a quell'età, l'amore comincia ad entrare nella vita quotidiana e l'innocenza di ragazzini, poco più che bambini, rendono il tutto estremamente puro, dolce e romantico. Ma non sempre è cosi, soprattutto quando questi sentimenti si scontrano con la stupidità e la pazzia degli adulti: lei hindu, lui musulmano, una situazione inconcepibile per il consiglio del villaggio, che ha deciso di porre fine alla storia tra i due giovanissimi fidanzati. Prima torturati e poi giustiziati; come se non bastasse, i cadaveri dei due ragazzini sono stati posti nel cortile della scuola che frequentavano fino a ieri, quasi come un monito per tutti i compagni, gli amici e i conoscenti. Dicono che la religione sia Amore, sia rispetto, tolleranza e difesa dei più deboli, ma anche un mezzo per superare le differenze e confrontarsi con le altre fedi. In molti, troppi casi, invece, diventa un'arma senza scrupoli, demoniaca e talmente odiosa da macchiarsi di crimini che mostrano il lato più buio e becero dell'essere umano, trasformando la Terra nell'Inferno. Shyam e Reena sono stati per aver superato i limiti e le imposizioni, per non aver avuto pregiudizi, per essersi rispettati ed essersi amati nonostante la religione, la razza, le credenze. Tutto questo nel 2010.

CUBA: Freedom of expression doesn't exist

Amnesty International launches a new alert, this time pointing the finger at Cuba, a country that for years was kept under an iron fist disguised as a revolutionary government, and so many other socialist rhetoric that, in his History, caused millions dead, like other totalitarian regimes, confirming once again that the theoretical Communism has never been able to find evidence of actual practice in large numbers, resulting in terrible situations of repression, authoritarianism and human rights aside. CUBA: libertà di espressione inesistente

Amnesty International lancia un nuovo allarme, questa volta puntando il dito su Cuba, un paese che ormai da anni è tenuto sotto un pugno di ferro mascherato da governo rivoluzionario, socialista e tante altre altre belle parole che, nella storia, hanno causato milioni e milioni di morti, alla stregua degli altri regimi totalitari, confermando ancora una volta che il Comunismo teorico non è mai riuscito a trovare degli effettivi riscontri pratici nei grandi numeri, sfociando in terribili situazioni di repressione, autoritarismi e annullamento dei diritti umani. Il nuovo rapporto di Amnesty, “Restrizioni alla libertà di espressione a Cuba”, mette in evidenza una normativa che limita in maniera inconcepibile la libertà di espressione, causando uno stato di terrore tra i giornalisti, i dissidenti e i critici verso il governo. Tantissime persone sono state arrestate, anche a causa di aver utilizzato la rete per discutere sul problema della libertà all'interno del paese. Sono comparsi anche dei filtri per evitare che alcuni siti “ostili” vengano visualizzati. La normativa vigente non usa mezze misure: è necessario “reprimere” e “punire” tutte le voci contrarie al regime e il rischio è davvero alto. L'agenzia di stampa AGI ricorda il caso di Pablo Pacheco Abila, condannato a 20 anni di prigione per aver criticato apertamente l'apparato governativo di Cuba e di averlo fatto sia attraverso interviste che sfruttando la rete per pubblicare i propri articoli e le proprie impressioni. Si dirà che l'embargo statunitense non è certo un buon esempio di rispetto dei diritti umani ma, francamente, non ha alcuna relazione con l'impossibilità di poter esprimere la propria idea nel proprio paese, senza correre il rischio di essere arrestati e, in alcuni casi, anche giustiziati. In recent hours, the Iranian news agency IRNA has beaten the following news: two people were sentenced to death for causing the deaths of three guys during the period of detention: Mohammad Kamran, and Amir Mohsen Ruholamini Javadifar were arrested during protests against the results of the elections of last June 19. According to dall'Irna, the two were found guilty of beating to a detention center that Khamenei was forced to close, after the news on the violence had spread throughout the country. Choice given by the desire for justice or a strategy to ward off the protest and to avoid that Green Wave continues to grow? The information provided is not even mentioning the names of those sentenced to death, suggesting a sort of false sentence. But, although the sentences were true, the choice still leaves me surprised by the strange sense of justice of the Iranian regime: two people sentenced to death for causing the deaths of three demonstrators in a detention center is definitely a great manifesto for recover some sympathy among the population. But the thousands of people who participated personally in the events of last and this year witnessed many other things: more than 10 people killed in the square, violences, hundreds of detained and missing persons, the hydrants used to wash the streets and squares from the blood of demonstrators. Are there sentences for these things? Obviously not, and widows, bereaved mothers, relatives in anxiety and desperated boyfriends and girlfriends over the disappearance of their loved ones are the proof of how real is the sense of justice of last decision of the Iranian government. Two people were killed for beating to death three poor guys, while for years the violences against the same people are continuing and this is passed as justice, freedom and democracy. IRAN: due condanne a morte per i pestaggi di Kahrizak

Nelle scorse ore l'agenzia di stampa iraniana Irna ha battuto la seguente notizia: due persone sono state condannate a morte per aver causato la morte di tre ragazzi durante il periodo di detenzione: Mohammad Kamrani, Moshen Ruholamini e Amir Javadifar erano stati arrestati durante le manifestazioni di protesta contro i presunti brogli delle elezioni dello scorso 19 giugno. Secondo quanto riferito dall'Irna, i due sono stati dichiarati colpevoli dei pestaggi a Kahrizak, un centro di detenzione che Khamenei è stato costretto a chiudere, dopo che la notizia sulle violenze si era diffusa in tutto il paese. Una scelta data dalla voglia di giustizia o una strategia per tenere a bada la protesta interna ed evitare che l'Onda Verde continui a crescere? Le informazioni diffuse non citano neppure i nomi dei condannati a morte, lasciando pensare ad una sorta di finta condanna. Anche se le condanne fossero state reali, la scelta mi lascia comunque sorpreso e stupefatto dello strano senso di giustizia del regime iraniano: due persone condannate a morte per aver causato la morte di tre manifestanti in un centro di detenzione è sicuramente un gran bel manifesto per recuperare qualche simpatia tra la popolazione. Ma le migliaia di persone che hanno partecipato in prima persona alle manifestazioni dello scorso anno sono testimoni di ben altre cose: oltre 10 persone uccise in piazza, centinaia di arrestati e di persone scomparse, gli idranti utilizzati per lavare le vie e le piazze dal sangue dei ragazzi. Le condanne per queste cose ci sono state? Ovviamente no, e le vedove, le madri in lutto, i parenti in ansia e i fidanzati disperati per la scomparsa dei propri amati sono una prova di quanto sia reale il senso di giustizia dell'ultima decisione del governo iraniano. Due persone sono state uccise per aver picchiato a morte tre poveri ragazzi, mentre da anni le violenze si susseguono contro la stessa gente e tutto questo viene fatto passare come giustizia, libertà e democrazia. Peccato, però, che gli iraniani abbiano capito da tempo i giochi di potere e la voglia di cambiamento stia montando di giorno in giorno.

IRAN: over 1500 women arrested because of hijab's law

Talking online with many Iranian boys and girls and reading newspapers and magazines, I realized how the arrival of Ahmadinejad at the head of Iran have made the internal law of the country much more repressive and rigid than in previous years, led by Katami. Some of these rules are really at the point of absurdity and others, even if they are already in place from long timem they are taken more into account by the police, making the lives of people even more difficult and almost impossible. Reading the news agency Adnkronos I came across a story that incorporates a statement by the iraniana Police Commissioner Bahman Karegar, regarding the law on the hijab, what we called "veil". According Karegar, police ethics (a fringe of police in charge of strengthening the control of Islamic morals and behavior of individuals) has arrested more than 1500 women, most of them under 25 years (80%). Detention, according to the militar, took in almost all cases a rehabilitative purpose, so that in future the girls can understand the importance of law and respect it without delay. This is a blow not only to personal freedom of individuals but further humiliation to women in Iran, the real engine of this country, where political extremism, hidden for religious reasons, could not close its mouth, due to their extreme courage and their fortitude. IRAN: oltre 1500 donne arrestate per la legge sul velo

Parlando con diversi ragazzi e ragazze iraniane online e leggendo giornali e riviste mi sono reso conto di come l'arrivo di Ahmadinejad alla guida dell'Iran abbia reso la legge interna del paese molto più repressiva e rigida rispetto agli anni precedenti, guidati da Katami. Alcune di queste regole sono davvero al limite dell'assurdo e altre, seppure siano già in vigore da tempo, vengono prese maggiormente in considerazione da parte delle forze dell'ordine, rendendo la vita delle persone ancora più difficile, se non impossibile: leggendo l'agenzia di stampa Adnkronos mi sono imbattuto in una notizia che riprende una dichiarazione rilasciata dal vicecomandante della polizia iraniana, Bahman Karegar, riguardo la legge sul hijab, quello che da noi viene chiamato velo. Secondo Karegar, la polizia etica (una frangia della polizia che si occupa del rafforzamento della morale islamica e del controllo dei comportamenti degli individui) ha arrestato oltre 1500 donne, la maggioranza di esse sotto i 25 anni (circa l'80%). Una detenzione che, secondo il militare, ha avuto in quasi tutti i casi uno scopo rieducativo, affinché in futuro le ragazze possano comprendere l'importanza della legge e rispettarla senza indugi. Questo è uno schiaffo non soltanto alla libertà personale degli individui ma un'ulteriore umiliazione alle donne iraniane, il vero motore di questo paese, dove l'estremismo politico, nascosto da motivi religiosi, non è riuscito a chiudere loro la bocca, grazie al loro estremo coraggio e alla loro forza d'animo. La speranza per un Iran libero e democratico, ne sono certo, è soprattutto nelle mani di queste grandi donne.

Libya, Amnesty denounces human rights violations

Yesterday the organization Amnesty International has published a report on the situation inside Libya, a country that in recent years succeeded in relaunching the political and international diplomatic, after years of isolation and crisis with the West. The report is entitled "Libya tomorrow: what hope for human rights" and shows a little-known face of the state led by Muammar Gaddafi: We already know that migrants and refugees are subjected to periods of detention certainly not light and often, to avoid having problems of public policy on anti-immigration laws, the regime in Tripoli haven't many problems to use weapons against them. But there's more: the opponents of the government in Libya are being persecuted, tortured, arrested, and disappearances are commonplace. The Libyan law also provides public whippings for women accused of adultery and the death penalty covers many "crimes", including those related to freedom of expression of their thoughts. What baffles me is that this climate certainly not democratic and disrespectful of basic human rights is hardly ever shown in the world and politicians of the so-called civilized world accept the visits of Colonel Gaddafi without saying a single word on the Libyan situation. LIBIA: AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL DENUNCIA LA CONTINUA VIOLAZIONE DEI DIRITTI UMANI

Nella giornata di ieri l'organizzazione Amnesty International ha reso pubblico un rapporto riguardante la situazione interna alla Libia, un paese che negli ultimi anni è riuscito a rilanciarsi nel piano politico e diplomatico internazionale, dopo anni di isolamento e crisi con l'Occidente. Il titolo del rapporto è “La Libia di domani: quale speranza per i diritti umani” e mostra un volto poco conosciuto dello stato guidato da Muammar Gheddafi: sappiamo già da tempo che i migranti e i rifugiati politici vengono sottoposti a periodi di detenzione non certo leggeri e che spesso, per evitare di avere problemi di tipo politico riguardo le leggi anti immigrazione, il regime di Tripoli non si fa molti problemi ad utilizzare le armi. Ma non è finita qui: in Libia gli oppositori al governo vengono perseguitati, torturati, arrestati, e le sparizioni sono all'ordine del giorno. La legge libica prevede anche le frustate pubbliche per le donne accusate di adulterio e la pena di morte copre tantissimi “reati”, anche quelli legati alla libertà di manifestazione del proprio pensiero. Ciò che mi sconcerta è che questo clima non certo democratico e rispettoso dei diritti umani più basilari non sia quasi mai mostrato al mondo e che i politici del cosiddetto mondo civile accolgano le visite del colonnello Gheddafi senza dire una sola parola sulla situazione libica. Questa è un'ulteriore prova di quanto gli interessi geopolitici ed economici vengano prima di tutto, anche prima dell'essere umano e del suo diritto ad essere trattato come tale, un aspetto, questo, che sembra sempre più un privilegio piuttosto che una cosa ovvia e naturale.

Anche se nei nostri telegiornali non appare più tra le principali notizie, l'Onda Verde iraniana sta proseguendo la sua lotta per la libertà e i diritti civili in un paese che, a oltre 30 anni dalla rivoluzione islamica di Khomeini, deve fare i conti con una società profondamente cambiata, composta principalmente da ragazzi, giovani e giovanissimi, governati da un sistema talmente chiuso e proibitivo che la percentuale di ragazzi che vuole andare via dal paese, seppure a malincuore, cresce costantemente. Ad un anno di distanza dalla nascita del movimento di protesta, le nuove manifestazioni delle scorse settimane hanno ricordato al mondo che la lotta sta continuando: forse non ci sono le folle immense dei dopo-elezioni dello scorso anno, un aspetto che, purtroppo, influenza la priorità dei media e dei mezzi di informazione in occidente, che sottovalutano spesso il potere di questa protesta. Circa 900 arresti, tra cui tantissime donne, scioperi della fame e del silenzio, disobbedienza civile: questo è lo stato attuale della situazione iraniana di qualche giorno fa' e, nonostante i maggiori leader dell'opposizione abbiano invitato alla cautela i propri sostenitori (sia Mousavi che Karroubi), il movimento ha deciso di manifestare nelle piazze, nelle università e nei luoghi pubblici più importanti del paese. Due giorni fa' è passato un anno dall'uccisione di Neda Agha-Soltan, l'attivista divenuta simbolo delle proteste in Iran e definita una “martire della libertà” da Zahra Rahnavard, la carismatica moglie di Mousavi. Una morte che è servita senza dubbio ad ispirare tantissimi ragazzi e ragazze pronti a lottare per avere ciò di cui una società ha bisogno per essere libera e pienamente democratica. Ma Neda non è l'unica martire di questa strage, spesso silenziosa, perpretrata dal regime di Teheran: le sparizioni, le torture, gli arresti, le violenze, le minacce, le censure, le condanne a morte, le espulsioni dalle università sono i metodi che il governo utilizza per fermare e scoraggiare la forza d'animo e la speranza di migliaia di giovani iraniani, in lotta ogni giorno con la propria esistenza. Ahmadinejad intanto prosegue con la sua propaganda ormai al limite del ridicolo: “Le nostre elezioni sono le più democratiche del mondo”, ha affermato il presidente iraniano durante un discorso davanti al mausoleo dell'Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini all'inizio di questo mese, mentre una folla gridava a squarciagola “Morte all'America! Morte a Israele”. Il presidente ha anche aggiunto che l'opposizione iraniana verrà gettata via dallo stesso popolo, accusandola di volersi unire ai peggiori nemici dell'Iran. È possibile che vi siano ancora orecchie per questo tipo di discorsi? È possibile che una persona ancora giudichi un intero popolo, considerandoli nemici da combattere e eliminare? È difficile riprendere un blog dopo diverso tempo ma, come si dice, la vita è imprevedibile e spesso le situazioni personali e professionali prendono il sopravvento...Per questo e per altri motivi non ho potuto scrivere negli ultimi mesi e la mia vita personale è cambiata abbastanza radicalmente. Mi ci è voluto un po' per tornare nuovamente “in carreggiata” ed avere nuovamente la possibilità di riprendere il discorso cominciato all'inizio di quest'anno: Our Free World non è solo un blog, è uno spazio su cui pensare, riflettere, osservare e, ovviamente, dissentire. Non sono un politico o uno studioso di relazioni internazionali: credo, però, che sia doveroso e importante dare spazio a notizie, testimonianze e fatti che, nonostante lo sviluppo tecnologico e intellettuale degli esseri umani, sembrano andare a ritroso, a rendere il mondo qualcosa di estremamente differente da quello che può essere considerato “vita”. Nei mesi in cui non ho scritto questo tipo di vicende ha continuato a susseguirsi, senza sosta: i nuovi morti in Nigeria, l'attacco delle navi pacifiste da parte dell'esercito israeliano che ha causato decine di morti, le nuove tensioni tra le due Coree sono solo alcune delle notizie che hanno colpito maggiormente l'opinione pubblica. E, ovviamente, l' Iran. Un anno fa' nasceva l'Onda Verde, il movimento di opposizione contro l'esito abbastanza dubbio delle elezioni, che ha riportato Ahmadinejad alla presidenza del paese. Nei giorni scorsi nuove manifestazioni hanno ricordato questo anniversario e ancora una volta la repressione è stata pesante: 91 arresti, violenze, sparizioni, un sistema di sicurezza sempre più rigido e bavaglio sia ai mezzi dell'informazione che ai principali leader dell'opposizione. Nigera, prosegue lo scontro etnico-religioso

Spesso si sente parlare di guerra di civiltà, di guerra di religione. È errato generalizzare il credo religioso anche se poi, nella triste realtà quotidiana, accadono fatti e vicende che lasciano pensare a tutto questo. In Nigeria proseguono gli scontri tra musulmani e cristiani: all'inizio di marzo i morti sono stati 500 e quasi 100 persone sono state arrestate, accusate di essere gli artefici del massacro. All'inizio dell'anno si contavano 400 vittime, tra cristiani, musulmani e Berom. Nelle ultime ore altri 11 cristiani sono stati uccisi nella regione del Middle Blet: anche in questo caso si presume che i criminali provengano dall'etnia degli allevatori fulani, come per i precedenti attacchi.

La situazione sembrerebbe peggiorare di mese in mese, tanto che Muhammar Gheddafi, leader libico, ha proposto di lanciare un piano che possa portare la Nigeria ad una divisione definitiva del paese in due parti, una cristiana e una musulmane. Una soluzione che ricorda molto da vicino altre vicende che hanno segnato la storia passata, come ad esempio la nascita del Pakistan, a cui Gandhi si era opposto in maniera decisa, senza ottenere però nessun risultato concreto. Per Gandhi era prioritario il dialogo tra gli appartenenti a fedi differenti e una divisione etnica non avrebbe fatto altro che amplificare tali differenze. Il rischio di un'escalation delle violenze, però, è una priorità forse meno “alta” dei valori auspicati dal leader indiano, ma si tratta di un'emergenza da non sottovalutare. È pur sempre vero, però, che senza un dialogo tra le realtà interreligiose, un confronto concreto, il rischio di uno scontro sarà sempre alto, e non saranno certo i confini politico-etnici a fermare questo orrore.

Torture, a practice so vile, pure prerogative of the human being: violence as a way to humiliate, hit, worn out both physically and mentally, a fellow or another living being, is something much more common than we might imagine . Browsing the Web, I found a rather disturbing news: it is certain statements made UN expert on torture, Manfred Nowak, that shows how this horrific practice is present in most of the planet. Exactly: Nowak speaks of a "global phenomenon", often rooted in the criminal justice systems still light years away from the recognition of the most fundamental rights of man but also a weapon used to extract information, to feed the terror, the subjugation to the will of individuals governments without scruples. In addition to the most critical areas of the world, like Indonesia, Africa and the Middle East, torture is also present in the West, hidden and used in a subtle, hardly noticeable "to the naked eye."

Some of these states are even members of the Council for Human Rights. Nowak, during his tenure, has visited several countries: in some cases, prisoners or witnesses who would have felt were threatened, silenced. In other cases, he was even forbidden to go deeply into the matter. All this in the third millennium, not the Middle Ages. Torture concerns everybody: children, men, women, elderly, without exclusion of race or religion. La tortura, una pratica talmente ignobile, pura prerogativa dell'essere umano: la violenza come metodo per umiliare, colpire, logorare sia fisicamente che mentalmente, un proprio simile o un altro essere vivente, è una realtà molto più diffusa di quanto si possa immaginare. Navigando sul Web, ho trovato una notizia abbastanza inquietante: si tratta di alcune dichiarazioni rilasciate dall'esperto ONU sulla tortura, Manfred Nowak, che mostra come questa pratica orribile sia presente nella maggior parte del pianeta. Proprio cosi: Nowak parla di un “fenomeno globale”, radicato spesso in sistemi penali ancora lontani anni luce dal riconoscimento dei diritti più basilari di un uomo ma anche un'arma utilizzata per estorcere informazioni, alimentare il terrore, sottomettere gli individui ai voleri di governi senza scrupoli. Oltre alle aree più critiche del mondo, come l'Indonesia, l'Africa e il Medioriente, la tortura è presente anche in Occidente, nascosta e utilizzata in modo subdolo, difficilmente osservabile “ad occhio nudo”. Alcuni di questi stati sono addirittura membri del Consiglio per i Diritti umani. Nowak, durante il suo mandato ha visitato diversi paesi: in alcuni casi i prigionieri o i testimoni che avrebbe dovuto sentire sono stati minacciati, fatti tacere. In altri casi gli è stato addirittura proibito di scendere a fondo nella questione. Tutto questo nel terzo millennio, non nel Medioevo. La tortura riguarda tutti: bambini, uomini, donne, anziani, senza esclusione di razza o religione. Provocare dolore fisico e psicologico fino allo stremo è un vero e proprio atto di omicidio: i danni e la paura causati da queste pratiche sono negli occhi di milioni e milioni di persone, che hanno conosciuto l'inferno in Terra e che si porteranno dentro, fino alla morte. Sono convinto che, quando l'uomo si trasforma in demone, si decreta fine stessa dell'essere umano, per dar spazio ad un altra forma di essere, dove la bestialità di un animale è nulla in confronto ad esso.

As often happens on my blog, this time I will dedicate an article to what is happening in Iran: if it is true that television we can no longer hear talk about the opposition but above all the repression, it doen't mean that everything is okay. We still remember the anti-government protests culminated on December 27th, the day of Ashura, arrests, violence and early death sentences put into practice this year against some of the protesters arrested in the riots. Nearly three months from that date, the prosecutor Terhan Ja'fari Dolatabi Abbas has indicated that they were sentenced to death six of the boys arrested on 27 December. Come spesso accade nel mio blog, anche questa volta vorrei dedicare un articolo a ciò che sta accadendo in Iran: se è vero che in tv non si sente più parlare dell'opposizione ma soprattutto della repressione, non significa che tutto sia a posto. Ci ricordiamo ancora le proteste antigovernative culminate il 27 dicembre scorso, giorno dell'Ashura, gli arresti, le violenze e le prime condanne a morte messe in pratica quest'anno contro alcuni dei manifestanti fermati nei disordini. A distanza di quasi tre mesi da quella data, il procuratore di Terhan Abbas Ja'fari Dolatabi ha fatto sapere che sono stati condannati a morte altri sei dei ragazzi arrestati il 27 dicembre. Si parla di “soggetti deviati”, di “sicurezza nazionale” e della necessità da parte del governo iraniano di scegliere questa via, per evitare che il paese fosse in pericolo. Ma in pericolo da cosa? I ragazzi condannati a morte sarebbero un pericolo per l'Iran? Difficile credere ad una versione talmente forzata da far addirittura sorridere, se non fosse per la tragicità della situazione.

8 marzo: una giornata da non dimenticare

Un fiore, dei cioccolatini, un rametto di mimosa: siamo abituati così, ormai, a festeggiare la festa della Donna nel nostro paese e in molte altre parti del pianeta. Tante donne colgono l'occasione per uscire con le amiche, andare in pizzeria e, in alcuni casi, fare degli strappi alla regola, concedendosi uno strip maschile per il gusto di trasgredire. Poche persone, però, sanno che questa giornata ha un significato ben più alto e importante rispetto al mero divertimento materiale: un giorno in cui la donna ricorda le sue conquiste sociali, il rispetto e la sua indipendenza verso un mondo che è ancora molto, troppo indietro su questa tematica. Ci si diverte, si balla in discoteca o si festeggia davanti ad una pizza e il ricordo della donna viene offuscato da esigenze e bisogni talmente superficiali da rappresentare, in alcuni casi, un'offesa alla donna stessa.

In queste ore l'associazione Human Right Watch ha chiesto al governo iraniano di liberare sei donne incarcerate per aver sostenuto le cosiddette “madri in lutto”, le donne che da mesi si incontrano spontaneamente in un parco di Teheran per chiedere notizie e per denunciare la scomparsa dei loro figli, scomparsi dopo le manifestazioni post-elettorali della scorsa estate. Non solo: moltissime donne di vari paesi devono stare attente a come vestono, a come parlano, a cosa guardano, a chi sfiorano, rischiando il carcere, l'umiliazione, la tortura e, in alcuni casi, addirittura la vita. Per non parlare delle violenze sessuali e fisiche, spesso taciute e nascoste nelle famiglie più insospettabili, anche nel nostro “avanzato” Occidente. Mentre qui molte donne affermano “si tratta di una festa inutile”, c'è chi in altre aree del pianeta vorrebbe gridare con la propria voce, farsi sentire, denunciare la propria situazione di “essere inferiore” a causa di situazioni assurde.

La festa della donna dovrebbe essere un momento in cui è necessario ascoltare queste voci, ricordarle, amplificarle in modo tale da renderle assordanti e, quindi, difficili da ignorare per tutti. Con questo non voglio dire che chi preferisce festeggiare questa giornata in modo decisamente più frivolo non sia una donna che non meriti rispetto, ovviamente. Quello che penso, però, è che le donne emancipate, le donne del mondo cosiddetto “libero” hanno una responsabilità molto grande verso quelle donne che, invece, non hanno questa fortuna. Diciamo la verità: ogni donna libera, se volesse, potrebbe andare in pizzeria, a ballare, a guardarsi uno strip maschile, o altro in qualunque giorno dell'anno. La giornata della Donna, invece, non dovrebbe perdere il suo significato originario, anche per rispetto verso tutte quelle bambine, ragazze, donne, anziane che devono lottare ogni giorno contro leggi, pregiudizi, limiti per sopravvivere. Un giorno forse non servirà a granchè, ma la sua forza simbolica, se rispettata come dovrebbe, potrebbe ottenere dei risultati sorprendenti. La Donna ha bisogno dell'aiuto di chi è donna, ma si è dimenticata di esserlo.

This does not mean that all the turkish people guilty of heinous crimes: I am Italian, and Italy, with its racial laws, his dictatorial regime, its colonial aspirations, the active help to Germany in the ethnic cleansing and thirst for domination, it was also stained with atrocious crimes in the past. I cannot and must not be guilty of what happened but I have a duty to identify such faults and to ensure that this never happens again. To deny it would be like to slap and insult those who suffered and died for reasons unimaginable, because of unscrupulous men who have offended not only the people who suffered the violence, but the same people that they claimed to represent. Human rights can not be topics on which it may have doubts or reservations but they are issues on which the world must necessarily have a common vision: Unfortunately, History continues to repeat itself with uncanny punctuality in many, too many areas of the planet.

Il massacro armeno avvenuto nei primi anni del '900 è uno dei capitoli più bui e tristi della storia dell'Armenia e un segno indelebile nella storia della Turchia, ancora oggi restia a riconoscere le colpe di una strage che ha portato alla morte migliaia di persone, tra cui tantissimi esponenti della cultura, del giornalismo e della politica del paese. Nonostante alcune lievi aperture da parte dell'ultimo governo turco, tutto sembra ancora confuso, incerto, anche davanti ad un'evidenza difficile da nascondere, dopo quasi un secolo di distanza. Proprio in questi giorni la Commissione Affari Esteri della Camera statunitense ha deciso di stilare una risoluzione in cui i fatti avvenuti tra il 1915 e 1917 possano essere considerati come “genocidio”. La risoluzione è stata approvata con un solo voto in più, 23 a 22, ma rappresenta un passo importante verso un pieno riconoscimento di una strage che molti ancora oggi negano o sottovalutano. Le ottime relazioni tra Stati Uniti e Turchia potrebbero venire incrinate dopo questa decisione, e il richiamo ad Ankara dell'ambasciatore statunitense nel paese è un segno più che evidente della tensione generatasi dopo la diffusione della notizia.

Non credo vi siano motivi per cui, dopo quasi un secolo, si debba rifiutare di riconoscere vicende di tale portata: le fosse comuni, i cimiteri, le testimonianze di quegli anni terribili sono un peso ancora tangibile nel cuore e nell'anima di tutti gli armeni, anche dei più giovani che, per fortuna, non hanno assistito alla violenza cieca del movimento dei “Giovani Turchi” ma che hanno perso nonni, amici di famiglia, persone importanti per la loro famiglia. Questo non significa che tutto il popolo turco sia colpevole degli atroci crimini commessi: io sono italiano, e l'Italia, con le sue leggi razziali, il suo regime dittatoriale, le sue aspirazioni coloniali, l'aiuto attivo alla Germania nella pulizia etnica e nella sete di dominio, si è anch'essa macchiata di crimini atroci. Io non posso e non devo rendermi colpevole di quanto è accaduto ma ho il dovere di riconoscere tali colpe e di fare in modo che tutto ciò non si ripeta. Negare sarebbe come dare uno schiaffo e offendere chi ha sofferto e perso la vita per motivi inconcepibili, per colpa di uomini senza scrupoli che hanno offeso non soltanto il popolo che ha subito le violenze, ma lo stesso popolo di cui si facevano portabandiera. I diritti umani non possono essere argomenti su cui si possano avere dubbi o riserve ma sono temi su cui il mondo deve necessariamente avere una visione comune: purtroppo, però, la Storia continua a ripetersi con inquietante puntualità, in molte, troppe aree del pianeta.

Iran, the director Jafar Panahi arrested

Even today I want to dedicate an article on Iran and, in particular to a news released just hours ago ': the famous Iranian director Jafar Panahi, winner in 2000 of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, was arrested along his wife and daughter. The officials have made a real blitz in the director's house and they were also arrested 15 guests presents in the house. The regime, after aver prevented Panahi from going to the Berlin Film Festival, has opted for a decision so far. Despite the arrest has come suddenly, it is not something surprising: Jafar Panahi, in fact, has never hidden his disdain for Ahmadinejad's government and its aggressive policies, both within and outside the country.

By the end of July, after the highly contested elections that confirmed Ahmadinejad at the head of Iran, the director was arrested for taking part in the commemoration for the death of Neda Aqa-Soltan, the girl became a true symbol of the protest Iran. Panahi was released almost immediately but the state of tension had been skyrocketing. His latest arrest was linked, once again, his support to opposition and to demonstrations against the government of the past months. Anche oggi voglio dedicare un articolo all'Iran e, in particolare, ad una notizia diffusa proprio poche ore fa': il noto regista iraniano Jafar Panahi, vincitore nel 2000 del Leone d'Oro al Festival del Cinema di Venezia, è stato arrestato insieme alla moglie e alla figlia. Gli agenti hanno effettuato un vero e proprio blitz a casa del regista, in cui sono stati arrestati anche 15 ospiti presenti in casa. Dopo aver impedito a Panahi di recarsi a al Festival di Berlino, il regime iraniano ha optato cosi per una decisione estrema. Nonostante l'arresto sia arrivato all'improvviso, non è certo una cosa che sorprende: Jafar Panahi, infatti, non ha mai nascosto il suo sdegno verso il governo di Ahmadinejad e la sua politica aggressiva, sia all'interno che all'esterno del paese. Già alla fine di luglio, dopo le contestatissime elezioni che hanno riconfermato Ahmadinejad alla guida dell'Iran, il regista era stato arrestato per aver preso parte alla commemorazione per la morte di Neda Aqa-Soltan, la ragazza diventata un vero e proprio simbolo della protesta iraniana.

Panahi è stato liberato quasi immediatamente ma lo stato di tensione era ormai alle stelle. Il suo ultimo arresto sarebbe legato, anche questa volta, al suo supporto all'opposizione e alle manifestazioni contro il governo dei mesi scorsi. È difficile capire cosa accadrà ora: l'alto livello di repressione delle ultime settimane verso gli organi di informazione e verso alcuni esponenti di spicco della cultura e della comunicazione in Iran non lasciano presagire nulla di buono. L'arresto di Panahi, però, potrebbe avere un'eco internazionale molto forte, cosi forte da poter diventare un boomerang per lo stesso regime iraniano. La notorietà del regista, i riconoscimenti a livello internazionale e le sue relazioni con l'occidente saranno degli aspetti da non sottovalutare in questa vicenda che, lo spero, finirà al più presto e senza nessun incidente irreparabile.

Iran: if we want, Europe could remain without power supplies

Europe still threatened by the Iranian regime: this time the words come directly from Hossein Salami, the deputy of the Guardians of the Revolution. Salami said that Europe is heavily dependent on energy from Iran and, in case of problems between the country and the continent, supplies could be cut. But the words of Salami carry on past, reviving once again the hypothesis of a war: "Our missiles could hit any target." Such statements do nothing but worsen the situation and increase the complexity of relations between Iran and the West, already strained after the announcement of Ahmadinejad to the start of uranium enrichment at home.

But in the last hours, was not only talking Salami: Ayatollah Khamenei has lashed out at the International Atomic Energy Agency, the AIEA, guilty of being subjugated to U.S. interests. Other official statements of the Tehran government, however, are targeting France and Germany, defined unreliable for failing to meet certain agreements on nuclear energy. The growing aggressiveness of Iran warned the international community and future scenarios are not rosy: I do not think there is an imminent risk of war, even I though the enduring of such positions could exasperate the minds, penalizing primarily who does not deserve this situation: the iranian people.

Chavez: Venezuela out of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

Hugo Chavez, the controversial president of Venezuela, decided that his country will leave the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The reason for the decision would be linked to a report drafted by NGOs operating in Venezuela, where are reported behavior and government decisions that seriously affect democracy and human rights. Chavez brings up once again the United States, guilty of being behind this relationship and, therefore, it would be a document does not correspond to reality. The Commission, apparently, would have supported the coup attempt against Chavez in 2002: a good reason, according to the chairman, to discredit the accusations against his government.

It is difficult, however, ignore the iron fist to the press critical of the Venezuelan executive, or even the threat of a popular uprising (which spontaneously, as is clear, would have very little) if in the coming elections the Chavez's party, the PSUV, doesn't have at a minimum of 75% of the seats. If all these we add the violence, both physical and verbal, to some journalists and pro-government voters, the situation becomes more complicated: I do not think Chavez tell just lies and I am not surprised that there was a design coup that sought to stop his rise to leadership of the South American country. But I believe that his conduct was contrary to many of the values that are advertised with some ease, especially those who make socialism a flag of justice and equality, as well as the spirit of his main action. As they say, between saying and doing there is a great sea in the middle, and once again real socialism is light years away from the high ideals in many respects shareable, than the theoretical.

Chavez: Venezuela via dalla Commissione Interamericana per i diritti umani

Hugo Chavez, il controverso presidente del Venezuela, ha deciso che il suo paese abbandonerà la Commissione Interamericana per i Diritti Umani. Il motivo della decisione sarebbe legato ad un rapporto stilato dalle organizzazioni non governative operanti nel Venezuela, sul quale vengono denunciati comportamenti e decisioni del governo che ledono gravemente la democrazia e i diritti umani. Ancora una volta Chavez tira in ballo gli Stati Uniti, colpevoli di essere dietro tale rapporto e, quindi, si tratterebbe un documento non corrispondente alla realtà dei fatti. La Commissione, a quanto pare, avrebbe appoggiato il tentativo di colpo di stato ai danni di Chavez nel 2002: un motivo più che valido, secondo il presidente, per screditare le accuse rivolte al suo governo. È difficile, però, ignorare il pugno di ferro verso gli organi di stampa venezuelani critici nei confronti dell'esecutivo, o addirittura le minacce di una rivolta popolare (che di spontanea, com'è chiaro, avrebbe ben poco) qualora alle prossime consultazioni elettorali il partito di Chavez, il PSUV, non arrivasse ad un minimo del 75% dei seggi. Se a tutto questo si aggiungono anche le violenze, sia fisiche che verbali, verso alcuni giornalisti e elettori non filogovernativi, la situazione si complica: non credo che Chavez racconti solo bugie e non mi sorprenderebbe che vi fosse un disegno golpista che abbia cercato di fermare la sua ascesa alla guida del paese sudamericano. Credo, però, che la sua condotta sia stata contraria a molti dei valori che vengono propagandati con una certa facilità, soprattutto da chi fa del Socialismo una bandiera di giustizia e eguaglianza, oltre che lo spirito principale della propria azione. Come si dice, tra il dire è il fare c'è di mezzo il mare, e ancora una volta il Socialismo reale dista anni luci dagli ideali alti e, sotto molti aspetti, condivisibili di quello teorico.

Iran: death sentences are rising

I'm back here, after a couple of days of absence. And once again I would discuss about the situation in Iran, particularly on the issue of human rights. It was presented in Bari a few days ago by "Iran Human Rights", a group of Iranian dissidents around the world, a report showing once again one of the most bloody of the regime: the death sentences. Capital punishment, as you know, is present even in a country like the U.S., although the situation is substantially different: in the past year the death sentences in Iran were 402, a dangerous leap forward compared to previous years. Among these, over thirty people have deserved death because they were enemies of God (mohareb), while many others were executed because they opposed or critical of their government.

Not to mention the fact that among these odious numbers are also some minors and women. In short, the killing machine of the Islamic Republic does not look at anybody and try to use this weapon to sow terror and cause to order the people, not by chance that the peak of the executions there were in connection with the election in June 2009. These are just the official numbers and fail to take into consideration all those arrested and killed in prison, often after excruciating torture. If you add to all this killing to the streets, kidnapping, harassment and attacks until his death, we can only have a vague idea of what the Iranians have to suffer daily. It is necessary that everything does not fall silent and it doesn't notice when it comes to Iran's only nuclear power or when there are clashes between government and opposition. The total liberation of Iran is also in our hands. We are in a position much better than the Iranian people, and we have a responsibility to show the world the true face of this country, not to dwell only on the threat of a propaganda system that has no now no meaning to exist.

Iran: aumentano le condanne a morte

Eccomi di nuovo qui, dopo un paio di giorni di assenza. E ancora una volta vorrei parlare della situazione in Iran, in particolare sul tema dei diritti umani. È stato presentato a Bari qualche giorno fa' da Iran Human Rights, un gruppo di dissidenti iraniani da tutto il mondo, un rapporto che mostra ancora una volta uno degli aspetti più cruenti del regime: le condanne a morte. La pena capitale, come sappiamo, è presente anche in un paese come gli USA, anche se la situazione è sostanzialmente differente: durante l'anno scorso le condanne a morte in Iran sono state 402, un pericoloso balzo in avanti rispetto agli anni precedenti. Tra questi, oltre trenta persone hanno meritato la morte per essere dei nemici di Dio (mohareb), mentre moltissimi altri sono stati giustiziati perché contrari o critici nei confronti del loro governo. Senza contare il fatto che tra questi odiosi numeri sono presenti anche alcuni minorenni e delle donne. Insomma, la macchina di morte della Repubblica Islamica non guarda in faccia a nessuno e cerca di utilizzare quest'arma per seminare terrore e indurre all'ordine il popolo.

Non a caso il picco massimo delle esecuzioni ci sono state in concomitanza con le elezioni. Questi sono solamente i numeri ufficiali e non prendono in considerazioni tutte quelle persone arrestate e uccise in carcere, spesso dopo atroci torture. Se a tutto questo si aggiungono le uccisioni in piazza, i rapimenti e i soprusi perpetrati fino alla morte, possiamo solamente avere una vaga idea di quello che gli iraniani debbano subire quotidianamente. È necessario che tutto non cada nel silenzio e che non ci si accorga dell'Iran solamente quando si parla di nucleare o quando ci sono degli scontri tra governo e opposizione. La totale liberazione dell'Iran è anche nelle nostre mani e noi, trovandoci in una posizione decisamente migliore rispetto al popolo iraniano, abbiamo la responsabilità di mostrare al mondo il vero volto del paese, non soffermandoci solamente sulle propagande minacciose di un sistema che non ha ormai alcun senso di esistere.

Italy: young immigrant died of cold in the street, amid the indifference of passers

We are losing everything: the wisdom, sensitivity and solidarity. The world today is building a society of insecurity, distrust, fear, aN hell where one is forced to live, willingly or unwillingly. This is especially true for those countries more "technologically and economically advanced but registered a deterioration of moral and ethical pitiable. And it doesn't speak only of love between man and woman: Sahid Belamel was a Moroccan boy of 25 years, arrived in Italy illegally. He was in Ferrara that night: half-naked, wounded, powerless, in a roadside town of Emilia. Sahid died that night of cold, while young men of his age, men, women, passed indifferent to visit nearby discos, dance and have fun, but no one stopped to help. A local newspaper has decided to shake the public with a complaint put his obituary on the front page of the newspaper, to show everyone a mirror to look out and see if what happened was something acceptable. Sahid died in the general indifference in a country like Italy, where too many people thought to be "good Christians" and to defend their culture. A Christian, however, here there is very little: solidarity towards the weakest, the active help to those in need, to those who fear, hunger, cold, no longer exists. Some people believe that this is civilization? I think there is no need to answer.

Italia: giovane immigrato muore di freddo in strada, tra l'indifferenza dei passanti

Stiamo perdendo tutto: il senno, la sensibilità, la solidarietà. Il mondo di oggi sta costruendo una società di insicurezze, diffidenza, paura, una sorta di Inferno in cui si è costretti a vivere, volente o nolente. Questo vale soprattutto per i paesi cosiddetti “svilluppati”, evoluti tecnologicamente ma che registrano una regressione sul senso morale ed etico da far paura. Parlare cosi, forse, potrebbe essere per molti lo sfogo di un antioccidentale o qualcosa del genere. Non è cosi, come tutte le cose anche l'Occidente ha i suoi lati negativi e, purtroppo, oggi la situazione sembra ancora peggiore. È passata poco più di una settimana da San Valentino, la festa degli innamorati, simbolo dell'Amore. Una giornata, quindi, dove questo grande e nobile sentimento dovrebbe essere messo in pratica, non solo a parole o attraverso scatole di cioccolatini a forma di cuore. E non si parla soltanto di amore tra uomo e donna: Sahid Belamel era un ragazzo marocchino di 25 anni, arrivato in Italia clandestinamente. Si trovava a Ferrara quella notte: seminudo, ferito, privo di forze, nel bordo di una strada della cittadina emiliana.

Quella notte Sahid è morto di freddo, mentre giovani della sua età, uomini, donne, passavano indifferenti, per recarsi nelle discoteche lì vicino, a ballare e divertirsi, senza che nessuno si fermasse ad aiutarlo. Un quotidiano locale ha deciso di scuotere l'opinione pubblica con un necrologio di denuncia posto proprio sulla prima pagina del giornale, per mostrare a tutti uno specchio con cui guardarsi e capire se quello che è successo è un qualcosa di accettabile. Sahid è morto tra l'indifferenza generale, in un paese come l'Italia, dove sono in tanti a reputarsi “cristiani” e a difendere la propria cultura. Di cristiano, però, qui c'è ben poco: la solidarietà verso i più deboli, l'aiuto attivo verso chi ha bisogno, di chi ha paura, fame, freddo, non esiste più. Qualcuno crede che questa sia la civiltà? Credo non sia neppure il caso di rispondere.

Children: still abuse and violence

This is a problem that affects not only in developing countries or dictatorship but is, unfortunately, a global scourge. Perhaps in the West it doesn't use children as soldiers, but there are other types of abuse, just as hateful and, in some cases, really ridiculous.

Like the case of Joshua Ryan Tabor, a twenty-seven U.S. Marines, who was arrested for using the technique of "waterboarding", or simulated drowning, against her daughter just 4 years ,because she could not learn the alphabet. The poor girl was first beaten and scratched in different parts of the body and to make matters worse, subjected to torture. Tabor, clearly state impaired by alcohol, was arrested and the child entrusted to social services. Little had been entrusted to the father after separation. A case that I am appalled and should warn about a problem not be underestimated. They are still too many, the small human beings living in hell, hunger, despair, and under the yoke of ruthless tormentors, often in their own family. The defense of infancy is a goal to keep in mind, so that little angels are wounded to death and bear wrongs, pain and humiliation that even an adult should ever know in his life.

Bambini: ancora abusi e violenze

Un dato impressionante quello diffuso da Cismai, un gruppo di enti italiani che si occupa di difendere i bambini dai maltrattamenti. Secondo quanto riferito dall'associazione, infatti, sono 700 mila i minori che in Italia rischiano abusi e violenze e soltanto una minima parte viene aiutata, soprattutto perché spesso tali atti vengono nascosti e non denunciati. La notizia si aggiunge ad altre che arrivano da ogni parte del mondo, dove i bambini vengono sfruttati per il lavoro, per il sesso, per il traffico di esseri umani e organi o addirittura come milizia per uccidere. Ancora una volta si tratta di un problema che non riguarda solo i paesi in via di sviluppo o ditattoriali ma è, purtroppo, una piaga mondiale. Forse in Occidente non si usano i minori come soldati, ma vi sono altri tipi di abusi, altrettanto odiosi e, in alcuni casi, davvero assurdi

Come il caso di Joshua Ryan Tabor, un ventisettenne dei Marines statunitense, arrestato per aver usato la tecnica del “waterboarding”, l'annegamento simulato, contro sua figlia di appena 4 anni perché non riusciva a imparare l'alfabeto. La povera bimba è stata prima picchiata e graffiata in diverse parti del corpo e, come se non bastasse, sottoposta alla tortura. Tabor, in evidente stato di alterazione da alcol, è stato arrestato e la bambina affidata ai servizi sociali. La piccola era stata affidata al padre dopo la separazione. Un caso che mi lascia davvero sconcertato e che deve mettere in allarme su un problema da non sottovalutare. Sono ancora tanti, troppi, i piccoli esseri umani che vivono nell'inferno, nella fame, nella disperazione e sotto il giogo di aguzzini senza scrupoli, spesso nella loro stessa famiglia. La difesa dell'infanzia è un obiettivo da tenere sempre a mente, per evitare che piccoli angeli vengano feriti a morte e sopportino torti, dolori e umiliazioni che nemmeno un adulto dovrebbe mai conoscere nella sua vita.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran has indicated that the regime in Tehran has decided to condemn to death Amir Reza Aaref, a political prisoner arrested last year, before the wave of post-election protests that has created Green Wave's moviment. The accusation is that of being a "mohareb", that is against God .Another pain for a guy in his early twenties: Amir, in fact, is 21 and already has to end his life, not because God wants it to him, but 'cause there is someone that disregard the laws of God and moral ethics. The National Committee of iranian resistance hopes in an intervention of the UN so that it can do something to prevent Amir and others like him can go to the gallows for political or ideological reasons.

When I am faced with this kind of news is as if I could hear the agonizing cry of these angels, innocents, heroes who still have whole they life ahead but which is denied them by men without scruples and without soul. The Iranian government apparatus is made of men, women, and mothers and fathers, for this reason I appeal to every one of them: if your kids were tortured, humiliated, killed, just because they have a vision of society and different life, how would you feel? How would you feel watching your children's eyes while the crane is going up in the sky, as if to challenge Him that Heaven commands it? The life of a boy cannot be thrown away, never. Amir is the symbol of all young and very young, but also adults ,who want to live in freedom and peace, and for this reason they deserve to die, according to those who claim to possess the Truth in hand. To you the freedom to believe if this is right.

Iran: Amir, 21 anni, condannato a morte

Cercando news e approfondimenti sull'Iran, tra le altre cose, mi sono imbattuto in una notizia che mi ha estremamente colpito. Il Consiglio nazionale della resistenza iraniana ha fatto sapere che il regime di Teheran ha deciso di condannare a morte Amir Reza Aarefi, un prigioniero politico arrestato lo scorso anno, prima dell'ondata di proteste post-elettorali che hanno dato via all'Onda Verde. L'accusa è quella di essere un “mohareb”, ovvero contro Dio. Un altro dolore per un ragazzo poco più che ventenne: Amir, infatti, ha 21 anni e deve già finire la sua vita, non perchè Dio lo vuole a sé, ma perchè c'è ancora chi si fa sprezzo delle leggi di Dio e dell'etica morale. Il Comitato di resistenza auspica un intervento tempestivo dell'ONU affinchè si possa fare qualcosa per evitare che Amir e altri come lui possano andare al patibolo per motivi politici o ideologici.

Quando mi trovo di fronte a questo tipo di notizia è come se riuscissi sentire l'urlo straziante di questi angeli, innocenti, eroi che hanno ancora tutta la vita davanti ma che viene negata loro per volere di uomini senza scrupoli e senza anima. L'apparato governativo iraniano è fatto di uomini, donne, quindi di madri e di padri, proprio per questo motivo mi rivolgo ad ognuno di loro: se i vostri figli venissero torturati, umiliati, uccisi, solo perché hanno una visione della società e della vita differente, come vi sentireste? Come vi sentireste guardare i vostri figli negli occhi mentre quella gru sta salendo nel cielo, quasi a sfidare Colui che il cielo lo comanda? La vita di un ragazzo non può essere gettata via, mai. Amir è il simbolo di tutti i giovani e giovanissimi, ma anche adulti, che vogliono vivere nella libertà e nella pace, e che per questo meritano di morire, secondo coloro che pretendono di avere la verità in mano. A voi la libertà di credere se tutto questo sia giusto.

Human rights: Italy under examination by the UN

I often speak of Iran, China, North Korea and other countries where democracy is not fully expressed by the people and where, unfortunately, human rights and basic freedoms are being trampled upon almost daily, at the expense of the weak, innocent and defenseless people. This doesn't mean, however, that the West is immune from this kind of problems: They are clearly more limited, less marked, sometimes hidden, but there are here too. And a country like mine, Italy, may find himself under scrutiny by the Human Rights Council of the United Nations. The reason is related to several issues such as immigration, the rules on safety, freedom of the press, the overcrowding of prisons, protection of ethnic minorities, homophobia and racism. Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Scotti, led the delegation in Geneva and were considered three different reports, one inside, drawn from Italy, another from non-governmental organizations and one third of the UN.

In the end, Italy has been promoted but with different recommendations, particularly on immigration and racial hatred. Problems, these, in my view, exacerbated by political parties and still bound to outdated ideologies, propaganda and populist: some politicians prefer open to everything and everyone, no matter whether immigrants are jobless, homeless, forced to live like animals, with the risk of increasing discontent of the Italian people and the deadly germs of racism. On the other hand, however, they prefer not to look at the exceptions, by vetoing any person who has the status of illegal immigrants, be considered criminal, and even compel the citizens themselves to do the job they should do the relevant authorities. In short, nothing in between, in perfect Italian style, but what do you want from a country like Italy, where everything has to be classified Right and Left and where it can still hear talk of Communism and Fascism, continuing a true civil war - thankfully, limited to verbal clashes, with a few exceptions - among factions that each term recriminations are problems. The most popular phrases are "a catastrophic situation inherited from the previous government," "a problem not solved by the old government," in a circle with no exit. Diritti umani: Italia sotto esame da parte delle Nazioni Unite

Parlo spesso di Iran, Cina, Nord Corea e di altri paesi in cui la democrazia non è espressa appieno dal popolo e dove, purtroppo, i diritti umani e le libertà basilari vengono calpestate quasi quotidianamente, a discapito dei più deboli, innocenti e indifesi. Questo non significa, però, che l'Occidente sia immune da questo tipo di problemi: sono senza dubbio più circoscritti, meno accentuati, a volte nascosti, ma ci sono. E anche un paese come il mio, l'Italia, può ritrovarsi sotto esame dal Consiglio dei Diritti Umani delle Nazioni Unite. Il motivo è legato a varie problematiche, come l'immigrazione, le norme sulla sicurezza, la libertà di stampa, il sovraffollamento delle carceri, la difesa delle minoranze etniche, l'omofobia e il razzismo. Il sottosegretario italiano agli Esteri, Vincenzo Scotti ha guidato la delegazione a Ginevra e sono stati presi in considerazione tre differenti rapporti, uno interno, stilato dall'Italia, uno delle Organizzazioni non governative e un terzo dell'ONU.

Alla fine l'Italia è stata promossa seppur con diverse raccomandazioni, soprattutto in tema di immigrazione e odio razziale. Problemi, questi, acuiti a mio avviso da un sistema politico e partitico ancora legato a ideologie sorpassate, propagandistiche e populiste: c'è chi preferisce aprire a tutto e tutti, e poco importa se gli immigrati che arrivano si ritroveranno in mezzo ad una strada, senza lavoro, senza una casa, costretti a vivere come animali, con il rischio di aumentare il malcontento degli italiani e i germi micidiali del razzismo. Dall'altra parte, invece, si preferisce non guardare le eccezioni, ponendo il veto a chiunque abbia lo status di clandestino, considerarlo criminale e addirittura costringere i cittadini stessi a fare il lavoro che dovrebbero fare le autorità competenti.

Insomma, nessuna via di mezzo, in perfetto stile italiano: ma che cosa volete da un paese come l'Italia, dove tutto deve essere classificato di destra e di sinistra e dove si sente ancora parlare di comunismo e fascismo, dove si prosegue una vera e propria guerra civile – fortunatamente, limitata a scontri verbali, a parte qualche rara eccezione – tra fazioni che ad ogni legislatura si addossano le colpe dei problemi. Le frasi più gettonate sono “Una situazione catastrofica ereditata dal governo precedente”, “un problema non risolto dal vecchio governo”, in un cerchio senza uscita. E mentre il girotondo prosegue ininterrottamente, l'Italia, al centro di questa stupida danza, ha la nausea.

For this reason, the propaganda machine, censorship and repressive government is trying to show, both within and through national television, and abroad with statements like the one quoted at the beginning of this article, that the riots are now under control, the people realized that this was just a farce, a lie. Meanwhile, the Iranians themselves have to deny their own rulers, displaying images, video of a fight and a protest that promises the most intense and determined to what Khamenei wants to appear it. Iran, Khamenei: le proteste sono finite.

L'ayatollah Khamenei è tornato a parlare per l'ennesima volta delle proteste e anche in questo caso ha messo in relazione i disordini con i cosiddetti “nemici del sistema, quelli esterni e l'opposizione interna”. La Guida suprema ha affermato che il popolo iraniano ha “dato un pugno in bocca al nemico” in occasione dell'anniversario della rivoluzione, mostrando la vera natura delle proteste, che tentavano di rovesciare il governo iraniano e destabilizzare l'intero paese. La relazione tra opposizione interna e Occidente è un'argomentazione molto utilizzata da Khamenei e il motivo è abbastanza semplice: fare leva sui sentimenti negativi nei confronti dei paesi occidentali, facendo sembrare le manifestazioni un mezzo utilizzato da Stati Uniti e alleati per porre fine al regime. Se a questo aggiungiamo il tema del nucleare, molto caro al popolo iraniano e percepito come un diritto indiscutibile, il gioco è fatto.

Tentare di soffocare l'Onda Verde tacciandola per “arma del nemico” e non considerandola una diretta conseguenza della disfatta della Repubblica Islamica suona quasi ironico: il Web è popolato di blog, siti Web e profili di milioni di iraniani che raccontano tutt'altro: la rivoluzione verde sta continuando e le preoccupazioni che il Nou Ruz (il Capodanno persiano) possa diventare una nuova data simbolo per la protesta sono molto alte. Per questo motivo la macchina propagandistica, censoria e repressiva del governo sta cercando di mostrare, sia all'interno attraverso la tv nazionale, sia all'estero con dichiarazioni come quella citata ad inizio articolo, che i disordini sono ormai sotto controllo, che il popolo ha capito che si trattava solo di una farsa, di un abbaglio. E intanto sono gli stessi iraniani a smentire i propri governanti, mostrando immagini, video di una lotta e di una protesta che si preannuncia più intensa e decisa di quanto Khamenei vorrebbe far apparire.
