Easter Sunday 2014: "Hugos on Sugat"

For the past Easter years, Alex was just among the soloist angels for what we called "Sugat". During this event kids dressed in angel are positioned in a way they can honor Mama Mary by throwing in flower petals. The throwing of petals happens after removing the black veil (which symbolizes grief) which is being replaced by a white veil (which symbolizes joy).

This year, we tried to take that slot for Alex to do the honor of removing and replacing and the veils. But never came into mind that the Parish Council decided to do the "Hugos". During the replacing of veils, the selected angel will be suspended instead of just standing on a platform. This is an old tradition which is being restored.

Good Friday 2014: Our Lady of Guadalupe Pilgrimage

Every year we usually spent our stations of the cross somewhere near. But we dared something unique and daring this time. Not only we have to walk at least four kilometer distance but we also have to brave the strong river currents to reach the last stations. On record, we did 9 river crossings. It was very fulfilling for the family to achieve such feat just to offer our prayers for this season of lent.

Panaad 2012: Divine Mercy Shrine

At early stage of her life, we taught Alex to be prayerful. She can memorize the basic prayers like Our Father, Hail Mary, Angel of God, Grace before Meal and Glory be. She somehow can utter some words of the Apostle Creed. Most importantly, we tried to make her understand that the Easy way to get something is to pray Hard.

Panaad or Panata is the time for us adults to spend time for reflection and prayers together with the family. And we in the family have made it an annual practice. The Carmelite Monastery was our favorite destination during Holy Thursday. But this time we decided to go for a change. We chose to have our Stations of the Cross at the Divine Mercy Shrine, El Salvador City.

This was Alex's second time to go to the Divine Mercy Shrine but it does looked like her first time seeing some new scenes and buildings and she even wanted to stay there a bit longer on a tent. Probably next time around.

It was a fun moment with the family.

Alex's Silver Medal Award - Recognition SY 2011-2012

If have something to show, flaunt it!

During the Second Half of the school year 2011-2012, Alex was showing a spectacular performance. She was among four candidates to receive a Gold Medal award if grades are maintained until the end of the school year. Unfortunately, kids have flaws and so is Alex. She had this habit of being so talkative and lazy at times copying what's required of them.

We were not pressured or worried anyway. We just have to keep her reminded of her good performance at school. She's still a kid and we don't want her to miss that moment in her life being one. Let our kids be kids during their days.

Alex receiving her Silver Medal had made us happy more than ever. But unlike the previous Silver Medal award, daddy was a bit more cautious this time unwilling to scramble trashes to look for lost medal.

Alex's First Solo Ballet Performance At Her Best

So you think she can dance? The questions that doubted our fear but overcome by confidence and trust. Alex may not be the best ballet dancer but we, her parents knew she can do it. It was an audition for the talent showdown contest sponsored by SM CDO Mall - SM Little Star 2011. Alex, who once participated in a ballet workshop, eagerly wanted to join. Their group had a recital last December but this time, it's the first solo performance of her life. Given her with basic skills in ballet, we hired a friend to further enhance her crafts in ballet dancing. She had a series of practices and a bit worried if she can do it all by herself on stage.

And the day has come. It was July 16, 2011 and Alex has to undergo another ladder of being a grown up kid. The first solo performance of her life. Alex was bundled with confidence that the crowd doesn't bother her much. She was all set to show her skills. No worries on her side. On the side note, we her parents, who had never experience such achievements in life (seriously) were trembled with fear. We need somebody to calm us down. Funny.

With Alex on stage as the first performer of the girls category, daddy has to hold on to his fear and to his trembling hands holding the video camera. Mommy was also on the same situation taking care of the photo op. And guess what? Alex did follow daddy's final words not to Yawn and Scratch her back as she used to during practices. She faced the audience with confidence and did stretch her arms and legs completing daddy's tip of the day. Just when daddy knew how to dance anyway? And oh, we forgot to removed her eyeglass. We were not that nervous.

The dance was completed and we heard some not-so-loud applause from the audience. But believe me, it was the best performance of her life so far. We hugged and kissed her off stage. Alex was at her best.

Alex as Second Honor Awardee - SY 2010-2011

This post maybe a bit delayed but being a stage father as I am, I'm proud to proclaim our child's achievements even when delayed. Last article, I mentioned about Alex's Special Award during their Special Awarding Day. Just when we thought that was it, we were surprised to know that Alex is one of the Awardee on the Recognition day. Of course, we never expected her to be the first honor not even second. And guess what? She made it as second honor. This is her greatest academic achievement so far.

But the excitement almost got spoiled when Alex accidentally lost her medal after lots of picture takings. The medal somehow slipped through its ribbon tie. I had to look around and even scrambled a pile of Trash - yes you heard me right. Until I came to a point thinking where to buy this medal stuff. Loser! Fortunately, my wife Felis tried to ask around and she found out that a utility personnel found a medal and gave it one of the Pre-School teachers. It was absolutely Alex's medal.

The awarding was not only fun but adventurous too. We look forward for more medals to come. Hopefully no more adventures this time.

Alex's Special Award - The Fruit Of Our Love and Labor

Going to school is what Alex love the most. She love going to school so much that we can even threaten her to stop going to school if she will not behave when time comes she gets naughty. Well, not to mention that we can't help but raise our voices to get her attention to study. She's just a kid though and developing a study habit for our kids is a challenge for us parents. It's a must or regret it that you never did.

We don't have high expectations with our daughter. We just wanted her to live LIFE to the fullest but of course with proper guidance and discipline. March 21, 2011 is their school's recognition. Going up to the stage to receive her award as Most Courteous is more than enough to make daddy and mommy proud. Seeing Alex happy, healthy and lively is the ultimate award that we get that no other medals or ribbons can match.

Valentine's Day Treat - Alex's Big Day

Nothing beats the day if you'll have it spent with the Family on a Vacation. It was actually a pre-Valentine treat for the Family. And also, a price for Alex for a job well done in school. Well, not to mention that voices are raised and Blood Pressures went at its peak dealing with Alex in studying her lessons. But it's worth it.

Alex love waters like never before. So having it spent on a beach or a pool should make her day. We had the vacation just on a nearby not-so-famous resort in our town. Could have been better if the resort got some crabs. Alex's all-time favorite. We had a hard time pacifying her knowing she can't have some crabs. And worst, the pool is only allowed until 6PM.

So to make up with her, she had whole day SPLASH at the pool the following day. It was an awesome experience. The pictures will tell it so.

Next time, we'll make sure that we have crabs to grab.

Jollibee's Negative Kidz Rating

I would say most kids if not all, loved Jollibee Mascot. Count Alex in. She also have a singing Jollibee toy in her collections.

Alex already been through a lot of Jollibee hosted birthday parties. But this time, it was very disappointing to hear from a fan telling her sad experiences during the party. "Dy (short for daddy), Jollibee was smelling bad. No lotion, no powder, no cologne." Says my daughter Alex as he relates to us her experiences with the last birthday party hosted by Jollibee. Kids never lie. I was referring to the branch at the Lim Ket Kai, Cagayan de Oro. No offense to them (Jollibee Company) in general but they should at least maintain hygiene to their mascots. Most especially the all time favorite - Jollibee. I don't know if it was only Alex who noticed that but that being said, it somehow disappointed her.

Alex did enjoyed the party but spoiled by a bad-smelling-Jollibee. To you Jollibee, Carabaos find time to take a bath in the mud after the whole day's work and why can't you. You have lots of fans. You don't want to lose them, right? Well take a bath.

Alex's Fourth Adventure Year Of Fun & Excitement - A Birthday Celebration

Come on. Bamanos - Let's go!

Birthdays is one of the special days that each of us can cherish. Much more with kids. Every year, we tried not only to make it special but also unique. This is Alex's fourth in the year of our Lord. And Dora the Explorer got lucky to be picked as her Theme and Mascot. Besides the sumptuous food, we also added a Choco Fountain for the kids to enjoy along with fruits and crackers to dip in.

The traditional Pabitin and Games did make the day a lot more special. And not to mention the Party Bags at the end of the party. Less privileged neighboring kids also got their share. But what makes this day so very special for Alex? It's having her birthday wish come true - A Bike. And of course, before the celebration started, Alex got a dose of thanksgiving for the Lord by attending the 12 noon Mass.

We were actually tight of budget but the good Lord did provided us enough to make not Alex happy but everyone who attended the party. Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us. God willing, we will have more celebrations to come.

Alex is a party lover. She loves to go places where there are a lot of kids to play with. But most of all she loves to join contests where she can dress up and be the best that she can. October 31, 2010 was an early Halloween Treat for the kids by the SM Department store. There was the traditional Trick or Treat and most of all, the Halloween Costume contest. Alex entered as the Preggy Panther for the Most Funniest category. She actually didn't make it to win the contest but the fun and excitement she experience was more than enough that she hope for.

UNO Day At SM City CDO - Alex as Miss Lebanon

This is one of Alex's firsts. UNO Day has been celebrated every year during the month of October. It's actually an exaggerative celebration but most schools are embracing this celebration and parents found this to be an opportunity to showcase their kids with their preferred costume representing certain countries.

Proud parents as we are, we extend our full support for our lovely daughter. This is Alex's first and as Miss Lebanon. This is also another moment for Mommy to showcase her craft in dressmaking. Yes, mommy did her Lebanese look gown.

And that includes make-up. I can only hople I could use some help.

But daddy plays a great role as an all time, ever faithful Chaperon and Photographer.

It was very stressful on my end having to follow my kid wherever they go. But the happiness you see in her face was just more than enough to have my energy recharged in no time.

To sum up, it was a very momentous day. And of course a picture taken with the all time fans.

Catching Up With Our Baby's Journal

This blog was actually intended to journalize our baby's journey to life. But due to time constraints, I am unable to follow through the sequence. So I have decided to just randomly post whatever updates I may have with her. But I will try to catch up where I left off.

What do I have this time? Our baby since birth have been exposed so much to taking pictures. Daddy just love to document every single movement of her possible. So as she grow up, she knew what is that rectangular thing that daddy is holding pointing at her - daddy's cheap digital camera :P. And whenever she felt she looks beautiful, especially when she's wearing a gown, she's the one initiating to have her picture taken.

The pictures are those she wore during two Sundays before we leave to hear mass. Here's another one:

June 28, 2006 - The First Trimester

We were told that the first trimester of pregnancy is the most critical period. Around 12 midnight of July 28, 2006, exactly the third month of pregnancy, Felis woke up with lots of blood dripping down her clothes. There were even blood clots and we were totally in dismay. Felis had several history of miscarriage and we really thought that that was the last one.

We didn’t immediately go to the doctor as we were financially drained that time and we waited till sunrise to request for assistance. My elder sister Nanette came and we hurriedly went to the Hospital to see the doctor. We were told to have a Transvaginal Ultrasound test. And to our surprise, for the first time I heard a heart beat that I could felt it synchronizing with my own. Yes, it was our baby’s heart beat and she’s alive. Well, we actually didn’t know yet her gender that time.

It was the first trial that God gave us during my wife’s pregnancy. It wasn’t easy but
it’s our hearts desire to have a baby. We prayed for it and claimed that we can have one.

May 1, 2006 - One Month Pregnant

Felis and I are members of the Pioneering Covenanted Parish-Based Christian Community here in the Philippines - The People of God Community. And within our Community are small groupings we called Men & Women Groupings of which we meet every week to discuss some personal matters. This is part of the Pastoral Care provided by the community. The members of our MWG then were 4 married couples under Nestor & Jessa Amora: Guy & Felisa, Alan & Hazel, Jovial & Wyeth and Rommel & Karen.

It was May 1, 2006 when our MWG spent the Holiday at Malasag Nature Park. May 1 by the way is Labors Day and Felis’ 33rd birthday. There were animals, Stairs to climb and Hanging Bridge to cross of which Felis bravely crossed to my surprise (She doesn't have this as far as I know). And there are much more tiring but exciting activity.

We winded up the day singing & drinking all night long. Felis was also being honored on that night. We headed our way back to our every home on the following day.

Out of curiosity while talking non-sense with Felis, Felis noticed that she was already a month delayed with her monthly period. So I decided to go to a nearby drugstore and buy a pregnancy test. Surprisingly, it turns out positive. It was a day of excitement and thanksgiving. But the excitement doesn’t stop there. It was being coupled with Trials making the thrill a lot more exciting and challenging.

My name is Guy, 35 years old and Married to Felisa with one precious Gem. This Blog doesn’t focus much about our married life but how we live our lives with our one and only Gem – Mikaela.

I got married to Felisa on November 11, 2000 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

We were then excited to have a baby. But that excitement was somehow delayed. We waited for a year, and another year, and another year, and another year until finally after five years we were granted with one Precious Gem – Mikaela.

Mikaela Alexis – that’s her name. She is now 3 years old. But as much as I’m excited to post some recent updates about her, I’d like to start when she was still a month old inside her mommy’’s tummy.
