Venue: Giant Hyper Market, Putra Heights
Date: 17 October, 2015
Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

This year, out of 54 persons, only 34 were qualified to donate.

The main reasons for being turned down were :
a) high/low blood pressure
b) underweight (min. 45kg)
c) low haemoglobin level (at least 12.5 g/dl)

Many who came are regular blood donors. Some have been coming to our blood donation drive for the past 2 -3 years. A few were first timers.

We thank all who generously gave their blood.

Hope to see all of you again in 2016!

This is another first for us...organising a COMMUNITY FAMILY DAY!
It's the first outdoor event organised together with MPSJ (Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya) to interact with the community in Putra Heights.

There were 3 categories for the children's colouring contest with age groups 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Total of 16 kids .... and all went home with P R I Z E S !!!

A Handicapped Home from Klang graciously came to entertain the crowd with 2 dance performances. Thank you!

Upon the declaration of start of the GAMES, families went round the different stations to try their hand at the games. POINTS were awarded for the games tried. 8 families participated in the family games and won home some hampers.

The rain resulted in an earlier wrap up of the event but the participants stayed back to receive their prizes and hampers. Hey! how often do we get to be caught up in such a downpour? with sheets of rain falling down between us? It's an experience!

We hope everyone had a great time, including all the helpers and volunteers.

The PHCC Committee would like to thank all who has helped in the planning, preparing and execution of this event. Special thanks to MPSJ for setting up the tents, and other sponsors for the printing and prizes.

To ALL the families who came to participate, thank you for your support. We hope to meet again in the coming future events being organised.

Mid-Autumn 2013 Celebration

2013-10-04T00:57:00.007+08:00

Mid-Autumn was celebrated on Saturday 28 September, 2013....9 days after the actual mid autumn festival that fell on 19 September, 2013.

In the Malaysian spirit, we extended our celebrations. So, even though we may be 'late', it's the spirit of the celebration that counts!

The turnout for this year was smaller but it was still an enjoyable time for all those who turned up.

We started with singing a few songs in Bahasa, Chinese and English.

We had a hilarious time listening to the audience tell their version of the story behind moon cakes.

Instead of the usual pomelo-cutting competition, this year we had the fastest 'cut and eat grapefruit' competition. Well...it's still a citrus fruit, albeit more sour ;P

Then we had the fastest 'drink 600ml. bottle of water with a straw' competition.

The kids had a game of musical chairs.

We were then entertained to a guzheng repertoire.

After prizes and gifts were given, we had some light refreshments and the children had a fun time going for the LANTERN WALK.

Others stayed behind to sing and dance to the karaoke songs.

Mid-Autumn 2012 Celebration

2012-09-29T17:23:00.001+08:00

This year we celebrated mid-autumn festival on Saturday 22 September, 2012. The celebration started with a medley of songs that everyone sang and clapped along to. There were competitions and we were entertained to dancing by a Kung Fu Fan Group and a Tambourine Group.

It was interesting to hear the sound whenever the KUNG FU dancers flipped open the fans. I remember I was chatting with a friend while the group practiced their dance. Suddenly we heard an explosion & I wondered what had blown up! Only then did I realise the 'explosive' sound that can be generated by a chorus of simple fans. It was my first exposure to such a dance.

We tapped along to the upbeat music used by the TAMBOURINE Dance group. We could see the dancers enjoying themselves and singing along to the music. Even the children were seen waving their balloons and dancing to the music.

For the 1st time, we had a MOON CAKE EATING competition! No, it's not how many moon cakes you can eat in 2 minutes. It's how much time you need to finish eating a moon cake. I can honestly say - it's not easy to gulp down a moon cake. I was so scared the contestants would choke themselves! Don't worry. Everyone was safe and sound.

We had the all time favourite competition - CUTTING A POMELO. I can say it needs strength and skill to cut open a pomelo and split the slices. I was truly amazed at how the CHAMPION completed the task with such speed and ease. Hats off to her!

The evening ended with a potpourri of scrumptious food and lighting up lanterns for the LANTERN WALK!

If this sounds interesting to you & you wished you were here, well....watch out for 2013!
Don't just wish....make it happen! Join us!

Mid-Autumn Celebration Coming Up in September 22, 2012

2012-08-29T22:15:00.000+08:00

This year's Mid-Autumn celebration is scheduled on September 22, 2012 (Saturday) at 8.00 PM. We welcome the community of Putra Heights and friends all around to come out and join us for another night of fun and celebration. Games, dances, contests, and a lantern walk will be the highlights…

Last Year's Mid-Autum celebration.......
On September 11, 2011 from 6.00 PM to 9.00 PM PUTRA HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTRE organized the Mid-Autumn celebration at its premise 37-1 Jalan Putra Mahkota 7/6C, Putra Heights, 47650 Selangor.

A turnout of about 100 people (children and adults) came from the community of Putra Heights and beyond, for this celebration. The night’s event started out with an ice breaker where the people danced to a song. This was followed by a pomelo cutting contest.

The highlight of the night was the performance by a Face Mask Changing Master who impressed the audience with his swift mask changing act. Many from the crowd enthusiastically posed for photographs with the Master. A young boy from the Putra Heights community gave an impressive yoyo demonstration.

There were games for the young children who eagerly waited for their turn to play. We were also entertained to a delightful rendition of music by a team of harmonica players. Some 30 children later participated in a 30-minute lantern walk around the shops before they returned for some refreshments. Many stayed on to enjoy the moon cakes, pomelo and local delicacies that were served.

It was truly another amazing Mid-Autumn celebration!

HAPPY & BLESSED CHINESE NEW YEAR!!

An Update on Bible Phonics

2008-02-04T13:28:00.000+08:00

The Bible phonic classes made its debut in Putra Heights Community Center (PHCC) on 19th January 2008. There were about 11 children who signed up for the program. The children who attended were kept occupied with lessons that consists of using blocks to form words, making sentences with double alphabets infront e.g PR, CR, GR; the last and the best part of the lesson was being entertained by 2 puppets, Ben and Anne.

It was very interesting to observe the learning curve of each child; each has a unique way to grasp what was being taught and some did things differently. For instance, one boy was very innovative in putting the word blocks back in a box. He stacked all the blocks neatly like a “tall, straight building” and then try to put the box over it. Very innovative and forward thinking indeed! The boy had speed and efficiency on his mind. (The author who did the observation was quite amused!) And there was this girl who was the brightest among the lot; she did things independently without consulting the teacher’s helpers. And yet another, observe what the rest were doing and helped the weaker ones. It was amazing to see how these children interact and respond to the learning.

If you are a parent with children in 6-7 years old age range, you can send them for the classes in PHCC; if you have not already done so. It is only once a week; every Saturday from 4.30pm-6.30pm with a minimal fee, RM40 per month. The benefits of them joining are many; do consider giving your child a chance to have the experiential learning!
