ದೇವಾಲಯ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ - ಇಟಗಿ ಮಹಾದೇವ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ

ದೇವಾಲಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆಯಾದರೂ, ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಯಾಣದ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯರು ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪದ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಮಾದರಿಯೆಂದರೆ ಇಟಗಿಯ ಮಹಾದೇವ ದೇವಾಲಯ. ಹಂಪಿಯಿಂದ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಗಂಟೆಯ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ದೇವಾಲಯ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ಎಂದು 1112 CE ದಿನಾಂಕದ ಶಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಅಂದರೆ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ. ಕಲಾ ಇತಿಹಾಸಕಾರ ಹೆನ್ರಿ ಕೂಸೆನ್ಸ್ ಈ ಸ್ಮಾರಕವನ್ನು 'ಹಳೇಬೀಡು ನಂತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ' ಎಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು 1112 CE ನಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ ವಿಕ್ರಮಾದಿತ್ಯ VI ರ ದಂಡನಾಯಕ (ಸೇನೆಯ ಜನರಲ್) ಮಹಾದೇವ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದನು. ಇದು ಪೂರ್ವಾಭಿಮುಖವಾದ ಗರ್ಭಗೃಹವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಎರಡು ಮುಖಮಂಟಪಗಳಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದ ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಭಾಂಗಣಕ್ಕೆ ವೆಸ್ಟಿಬುಲ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಲಾದ ಲಿಂಗವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ, ಇದು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರವೇಶದ್ವಾರಗಳಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖಮಂಟಪ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸ್ತಂಭದ ತೆರೆದ ಸಭಾಂಗಣವಿದೆ, ಕಿರಿದಾದ ಹಾದಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಿರಿದಾದ ಹಾದಿಯು ಲಿಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಎದುರಾಗಿರುವ ಭಾಗಶಃ ನಾಶವಾದ ನಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಮುಚ್ಚಿದ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದ ದ್ವಾರವು 9 ಜಾಂಬ್‌ಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜಟಿಲವಾಗಿದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದೂ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಮೂರು ಆಯಾಮಗಳಾಗಿವೆ! ಮುಖಮಂಟಪದ ಚಾಕಿ ತಿರುಗಿದ ಸ್ತಂಭಗಳು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲಾದ ತಳಹದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೂ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಶಿಲ್ಪಗಳಿವೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧದ ತುಣುಕು ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮಕರತೋರಣ (ಲಿಂಟೆಲ್) ಆಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದನ್ನು ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆಗೆ ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಸಂಗೀತಗಾರರಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರೆದಿರುವ ನೃತ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಶಿವನನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಿವನ ಎರಡೂ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚೌರಿಧಾರಿಗಳಿಂದ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಭಂಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷ್ಣು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮಕರಗಳು ಎಂಬ ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಲಿಂಟಲ್‌ನ ಎರಡು ತುದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚುತ್ತವೆ. ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಗೋಪುರವು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಆಕಾರವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ - ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಾಕಾರದ ಪಿರಮಿಡ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪುನರಾವರ್ತಿತ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳಿಂದ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ನೀವು ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಗೋಪುರವನ್ನು ಹತ್ತುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆಯೇ ಅಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಇಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಮಂಗಗಳು ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಶೃಂಗಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಸರುವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಹಿಂಬದಿಯಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಇಟಗಿಯ ಮಹಾದೇವ ದೇವಾಲಯ

ಮುಖ್ಯ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಐದು ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಿವೆ, ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಮಹಾದೇವನ ಪೋಷಕರಾದ ಮೂರ್ತಿನಾರಾಯಣ ಮತ್ತು ಚಂದ್ರಲೇಶ್ವರಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿತವಾಗಿವೆ. ಮುಖ್ಯ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಶಿವಲಿಂಗಗಳಿರುವ 13 ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಅವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಶಿಥಿಲಾವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಕಾಂಪೌಂಡ್ ಗೋಡೆಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಸಡಿಲವಾದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳು, ಸ್ತಂಭಗಳು, ಕಂಬಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗಳು ಬಿದ್ದಿವೆ. ಹುಲ್ಲುಹಾಸಿನ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ವಿರೂಪಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯನ್ನು (ಲಕ್ಕುಂಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವಂತೆ) ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಮಕರತೋರಣ

ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯರು ಮೊದಲು ಸಾಬೂನು ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಮುಖ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಮರಳುಗಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಣ್ಣಿಗೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಮೃತೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಸೋಪ್‌ಸ್ಟೋನ್‌ನಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾದ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು ಮತ್ತು ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮೂಲಮಾದರಿ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೊಯ್ಸಳ ಬಿಲ್ಡರ್‌ಗಳು ಈ ಹೊಸ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವುದನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಗುಣಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕೊಪ್ಪಳ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯು ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ನದಿಯ ತೀರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮೀಪವಾಗಿರುವ ಕೊಪ್ಪಳ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯು ಕೋಪಣ ನಗರವಾಗಿ ಮೆರೆದಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಹೈದರಾಬಾದಿನ ನಿಜಾಮನ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೂ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ನಾಡಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಂಧರ ವಂಶದ ದೊರೆಗಳು ಯರಂಬರ್ಗೆ (ಯಲಬುರ್ಗಾ) ವನ್ನು ಆಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಹಲವಾರು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪುರಾಣ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕಾಣಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ಶೋಭಾಯ ಮಾನವಾಗಿವೆ. ಇವೆಲ್ಲವುಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಇಟಗಿಯ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿದೆ. ಶಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮಕ್ಕೆ "ವಿಟ್ಟಿಕಾ" ಇಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯರ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅಗ್ರಹಾರವಾಗಿತ್ತೆಂದೂ ತಿಳಿದು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂಥ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡು ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿದ ಕಲ್ಲು ಈ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಮಹದೇವ ದಂಡನಾಯಕ ಶ್ರಮವಹಿಸಿ, ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಡೆಯಿಂದ ತರಿಸಿರುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ ಆಗಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸುವ, ಕೊರೆಯುವ ವಿಧ ವಿಧಾನಗಳ, ಕೈಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ

ಪೂರ್ವಾಭಿಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಮೈದಳೆದು, ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ರಾರಾಜಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲಲೆ ಕೆಳಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ 300 ಅಡಿ ಅಗಲ, ಉದ್ದದ ಪುಷ್ಕರಣೆ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ದೊರೆತ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನೇ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಬಳಸಿ, ಒಂದು ಕೆರೆ ರೂಪ ನೀಡಿರುವುದು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಶೋಭೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯರು ಉಸುಕು ಮಿಶ್ರಿತ ಕೆಂಪು ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿ, ಕಪ್ಪು ಮಿಶ್ರಿತ ನೀಲಿ ಛಾಯೆಯ ಬಳಪದ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಕ್ಲೋರೆಟಿಕ್‌ ಸಿಸ್ಟ್ ಕಲ್ಲು' ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿ, ಗಾಢ ಹಾಗೂ ಚಕ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ಕೆತ್ತಿ ಕಂಬಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ರತ್ನಾ ಭರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುವ ನಯ, ನಾಜೂಕತೆ ಯನ್ನು ಇವರು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿರುವ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳ ದ್ವಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ದ್ವಾರಗಳ ಅಕ್ಕಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕವಾದ ಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಯ ಕೈ ಚಳಕದಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಚಿಕ್ಕ-ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗೊಂಬೆಗಳನ್ನು ಶಿಲಾಬಾಲಿಕೆಯರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು, ನಗಾರಿ, ಡೋಲು, ಡಮರುಗ ಮುಂತಾದವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ನರ್ತಿಸುವ ಗೊಂಬೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು.

ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ನಿರ೦ಧಾರ ಪ್ರಕಾರದವುಗಳು. ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ' ಏಕ ಕೋಟಿ ಹಾಗೂ ತ್ರಿಕುಟ' ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿರು ಇವೆ. ಇಟಗಿಯ ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರವು ಬಹಳ ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನೋಡುಗರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದಂಡಾದಿಪತಿ ಮಹಾದೇವ ದಂಡ ನಾಯಕನು ಇದರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಕಾರ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಮುಖನು. ಇವನು ಶ್ರೀಮೂರ್ತಿ ನಾರಾಯಣ ಮತ್ತು ಚಂದ್ರಲೇಶ್ವರಿಯರ ಉದರದಿಂದ ಜನಿಸಿದನು. ಇವನು ಸಾಹಸಿಯೂ ಹೌದು, ಭಕ್ತಿ ಪ್ರಿಯನೂ ಹೌದು. ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ತಂದೆಯ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ನಾರಾಯಣ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಯಿಯ ನೆನಪಿಗಾಗಿ ಚಂದಲೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದನು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಾಹಸ ಭೈರವ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಇವನೇ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದನು. ಎಂಟು ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಲಿಂಗ ಮಂಟಪ ಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿ, ಅಷ್ಟ ದಿಗ್ಗಾಲಕರ ನೆನಪನ್ನು ತಂದು ಕೊಡುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಹಲವಾರು ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಇವು ಬಹಳ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಎಡ ಬಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ. ರೀತಿಯ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಕೆಲಸದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಗೋಪುರ ಸ್ಥ೦ಬಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿವೆ.

ದೇವಾಲಯದ_ಪರಿಚಯ

ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯ ಶೈಲಿಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ವಿಶೇಷ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊ೦ದಿದೆ. ನಯವಾದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿ೦ದ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಶಿಲೆಯ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಕಲೆಯ ಮಾಧುರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಶಿಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತಿ ಉಳಿಸಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯ ತ್ರಿಕೂಟಗಳ ಮಾದರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ಇಂದು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿವೆ . ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದಿದೆ.ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ ಜನ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ಬರ ಗಾಗುವರು. ಮಹಾದೇವ ದೇವಾಲಯದಂತಹ ಬೇರೊಂದು ವಿಶ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕರ್ತನಾದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ನಿಗೂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದು ಪೂರ್ವಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ0 ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಗಿಯನಿದ೦ ಕರ್ಮನೇನಾದರೂ ಇಂತಹ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಕಟ್ಟಲು ಛಲ ತೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಮಂದಿರದ ಬಳಿ ಇದ್ದು ಕೆಲ ಕಾಲ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆಯ ಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸೂಚ್ಯ ವಾರಿದರ್ಕಾನೆಯ ಮ್ಮಾನರ ಮಾಹೇಷ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಕಟ್ಟಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯ ಇಂದ್ರಜಾಲವೇ ಅರಳಿ ನಿಂತಿದೆ. ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿ, ಅಂತರಾಳ, ನವರಂಗ, ಮುಖ ಮಂಟಪ, ಶುಖನಾಶಿ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಸುಂದರ, ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಮನೋಹರ. ಯಾತ್ರಿಕ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ದೂರದಿಂದಲೇ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯ 6 ಅಡಿಯ ಜಗುಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ ಪೂರ್ವ ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಮಹಾದ್ವಾರ ವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ದಕ್ಷಿಣೋತ್ತರವಾಗಿ ಒಂದೊಂದು ದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದ್ವಾರಗಳ ಮುಂದೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೂಟ ಗಳು ಮನಮೋಹಕವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ದ್ವಾರಗಳ ಎಡ ಬಲಕ್ಕೆ ದ್ವಾರ ಪೆಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಳುವು, ಹೂಬಳ್ಳಿ, ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ದರೆ ಆನಂದ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಶೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಾರವು ಸುಪ್ತ ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ. ಒಂದೊಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಯ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಾರ ಪಾಲಕ್ಕಿರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಕೆಲವು ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಾಮಾಗ್ರಿ ಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ನರ್ತಿಸುವ, ಡೋಲು, ಡಮರುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುವ ಶಿಲಾ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣ ಬಹುದು. ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ರ ಲತೆ, ಲತಾ ಸುರಳಿಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಈ ಎರಡೂ ದ್ವಾರದ ಮೇಲ್ಪತ್ತು ಅತೀ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪದ್ಮಾಲಂಕಾರವಾಗಿ ನೋಡಗುರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕರಗಳ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗೊಂಡ ಸುರಳಿಗಳು ದ್ವಾರದ ಮೇಲಚ್ಚತ್ತು ತೋರಣ ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಮುಖದವರೆಗೆ ಸಾಗಿದೆ. ದ್ವಾರದ ಎಡ ಬಲಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡ ಸುಖಾಸನಗಳು ಭಗ್ನಗೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಗೋಪುರದ ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಅಽಷ್ಠಾನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೋಷ್ಠ ಇದ್ದು ಎಡ , ಬಲ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಂಭಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೋನಾಕಾರದ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗೋಪುರಗಳು ಸೂಕ್ಷ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿವೆ. ವೇಸರ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾದ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಹಿನಸರಿತ ಮತ್ತು ಮುನಸರಿತದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ. ಕಪೋತ'ದ ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗವು ನಕ್ಷಾತ್ರಾಕಾರ ವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ರಚಿತಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಗೋಪುರದ ಮೇಲ್ತುದಿಯವರೆಗೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸ್ಥರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೋಕೋಷ್ಠಗಳು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಸ್ಥರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕರಗಳ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕೃತ ಲತಾಸುರುಳಿಗಳು ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಮುಖದವರೆಗೆ ಸಾಗಿದೆ. ಗೋಪುರದ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ದೇವಕೋಷ್ಠ ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ - ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಹಿಂಭಾಗದ ಕಪೋತದ ಮೇಲೆ ಶಿಲಾ ಬಾಲಕಿಯರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಕೆಲವು ಜಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಗ್ನವಾಗಿದೆ. ಗೋಪುರದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದಿಶೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಗೊಂಡ ಕೋಷ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಶಿವನ ವಿಗ್ರಹವು ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿಗ್ರಹವು ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ತ್ರಿಶೂಲ ಮತ್ತು ಡಮರುಧಾರಿ ಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಶೆಯ ಗೋಪುರದಂತೆ ಇದು ಸಹಿತ ಮಕರ ತೋರಣ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.

ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ್ವಾರವು ಸಹ ಸಪ್ತ ಪಟಿಕೆಗಲಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕೃತವಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾವ ಭಂಗಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನರ್ತಿಸುವ ಕ ವ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಗೊಂಬೆಗಳು, ನಂದಿ, ಅಶ್ವಸಿಂಹದ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ಇವುಗಳ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಲತಾ ಸುರಳಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪೂರ್ವ ದಿಶೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿತವಾದ ದ್ವಾರವು ನವಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ. ಅಶ್ವ, ನಂದಿ, ಗಜ, ಸಿಂಹದ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು, ನಾಗ-ನಾಗಿಣಿಯರ, ಯಕ್ಷ-ಯಕ್ಷಿಣಿಯರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಹು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ದ್ವಾರದ ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಜಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಖಂಡರ್ಷವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೇ ದ್ವಾರದ ಎಡಭಾಗದ ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಪೋತದ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೋಷ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ' ಸಾಹಸ ಭೈರವನ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ರಚನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ತ್ರಿಶೂಲ, ಪರಶು, ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ನಡಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಮೊಣಕಾಲವರೆಗೆ ಪೋಷಾಕವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಡಾಸ ಧರಿಸಿದೆ. ಕೊರಳಿಗೆ ತೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ಅತೀ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಮಹಾ ದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದರೆ ರಂಜಸಜ್ಜಿಕೆ ಇದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಚತುಷ್ಕ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವರು. ಇದರ ಈಶಾನ್ಯ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವಾ ದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದರೆ ಬೋದಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಹಾದೇವ ದಂಡ ನಾಯಕನ ಕಂಡಕ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ ಕಾಣಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಚತುಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿತವಾದ ಕಂಬಗಳ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದ ದ್ವಾರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆಯರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಗೋಪುರದ ಮೇಲ್ತುದಿ ಶಿಲಾರಹಿತವಾಗಿ ರಚನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್‌ನ ನಿಜಾಮನು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಗೋಪುರದ ಮೇಲ್ತುದಿಗೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಳಸವಿದೆ.

ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರದ ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕವಾದ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕೋಷ್ಟಗಳು ರಚಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನೋಡಲು ಆಕರ್ಷಣೀಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಂದಿರಗಳಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಕೋಷ್ಠದ ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಜಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ, ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ, ಧನಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಹಲವಾರು ದೇವತೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಇದೇ ರೀತಿ ಕೋಷ್ಟದ ಎರಡೂ ಮಗ್ಗಲಿನ ಭಾಗವು ಬಳ್ಳಿ ಮತ್ತು ತೋರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕೃತಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ಮಠ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ಮಠದಲ್ಲಿರುವ 93 ಸಾಲುಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಶಾಸನವು ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯರ ವರ್ಣನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೇ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಗುಹೆಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು 40 ರಿಂದ 50 ಜನರು ಕೂಡುವಷ್ಟು

ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿವೆ.

ಶಾಸನದ ಶಿಲೆ 8ಫೂಟ್, 10 ಇಂಚು ಎತ್ತರವಿದೆ. ಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ಬರೆದ ಅಗಲ 5ಫೂಟ್ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಾಸನದ ಬಳಕೆ 6ಫೂಟ್, 8 ಇಂಚು ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಶಾಸನ ಉತ್ತಮ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ ಶಾಸನ ಸಾಲು 76ತರಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯ ರಾಜನ ಅವದಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಡಳಿತದ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಕಾರ್ಯದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ-ಗತಿಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಈ ರೀತಿ ವರ್ಣನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

“ಶಾ.ಸಾ. 76।। ಶ್ರೀಮನ ಮಹಾ ಅಗ್ರಹಾರ ವಿಟ್ಟಿಗೆಗೆಯಗಿದೆ ಆಥೇಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಟ ಮಹಾ ಜನರು ನಾಲ್ಕೂವರ್ ಕೈಯಲು ದ್ರವ್ಯ, ಧಾನ್ಯ, ಪೂರ್ವದಿಂ ಸಾರ್ವನ ವಸರ್ವ ಭಾದಾ ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗಿ ಪಡೆದು ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ ಚಾಲುಕ್ಯ ವರ್ಷ 37ನೇಯ ನಂದನ ಸಂವತ್ಸರದ ಭಾದ್ರ ಪದ ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮೆ ಆದಿತ್ಯವಾರ ಸೋಮ ಗ್ರಹಣ ಸಂಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ವ್ಯತಿ ಪಾತದಂದು"

ಶಾ.ಸಾ .77।। ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಮಹಾದೇವೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವರ ಅಂಗಭೋಗ ನೈವೇದ್ಯ ಅನ್ನದಾನ, ಭಕ್ತವೃತ್ತಿ, ಫಣಿಯಾರ, ಧಾತ್ರ ನಾವುಗಳ ಪ ದೋರಿಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕೆ ಧಾರಾಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟ. "ಇದರ ಶುದ್ಧ ಭಾಷೆ, ಅಲಂಕಾರಿಕ ಶೈಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ರಮ್ಯ ವರ್ಣನೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಖಂಡ ಕಾವ್ಯವೆಂದೆಣಿಸ ಬಹುದು. ಬೆಳ್ಳಲ ನಾಡಿನ ಇಟಗಿಯ ವರ್ಣನೆ ವಿಕ್ರಮಾದಿತ್ಯನನ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮ, ದೇವಾಲಯದ ವರ್ಣನೆ, ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ಕವಿಗಳ ಕವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರೌಢಿಮೆ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರದ ಪೂರ್ವ ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಮುಖಮಂಟಪ ಶೋಭಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮುಖಮಂಟಪಕ್ಕೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಕಂಬಗಳು ಆಧಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು 42 ಕಂಭಗಳು ಮುಖ ಮಂಟಪವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದವೆ ಮಂದಿರದ ಮುಖ ಮಂಟಪವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಮೇಲ್ಕತ್ತನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ನಟರಾಜಾನವಾಗಿ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯ ಕೆಲಭಾಗ ಭಿನ್ನಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು,ಭಂಗಿಗಳ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗ ಭಂಗಿಗಳ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತವೆ ಮಹದೇವ ದಂಡನಾಯಕನ ವಂಶಾವಳಿಯು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ತದನಂತರ ಮುಂದೆಸಾಗಿದರೆ,

ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಎದುರಿಗೆ ನಂದಿ ವಿಗ್ರಹವು ಮಹೇಶ್ವರನ ಎದುರಿಗೆ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಮುಖ ಮಾಡಿ ಪವಡಿಸಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ನಂದಿ ವಿಗ್ರಹವು ಬಳಪದ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಆದರ ಕೆಲವು ಭಾಗ ಭಗ್ನವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೊರಳಿಗೆ ಗೆಜ್ಜೆಸರ, ಹಣೆಗೆ ಹಣೆಕಟ್ಟು, ಮಣಿಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಇಣಿಯಾ ಹಿಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಮರೆ ಸರಗಳಿಂದ. ಶೃಂಗಾರಮಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ನಂದಿ ವಿಗ್ರಹದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಆವೃತ್ತಗೊಂಡ ಕಂಭಗಳು, ಚಕ್ರಕಂಭಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ದುಂದುಕಂಭಗಳು ತಳದಿಂದ ಮೇಲ್ತುದಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಚಕ್ರಾಕಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಇವುಗಳ ತಳಭಾಗದ ನಾಲ್ಕೂಕಡೆಗೂ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯಮಯ ಶಿಲಾಬಾಲಿಕೆಯರ ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಶಿವನ ಶಿಲಾಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಬಂಗಾರದಿಂದ ಆಭರಣ ತಯಾರಿಸುವ ಮಾದರಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿಸಲಾದ ಕಂಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಸುರಿನ ಕೆಲಸ ನೋಡಗುರ ಮನವನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಚಕ್ರಗಂಭದ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಮನ ಅರಳಿ ಹೂವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಲ್ಪ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಮೇಣದಂತೆ ಬಳಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಕೈಚಳಕವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿ ಗುಡಿಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಪುರುಷನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ದುಂಡುಗಂಭಗಳ-ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಯ ಗೆಜ್ಜೆಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ಆಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿ, ಕಲೆಯ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ನೇ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ತಂದು ಮಂದಿರದ ಮೆರಗನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿರುತಾನೆ.

ಮಹಾದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಗಿದಾಗ ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರಿಗೆ ನವರಂಗದ ದರ್ಶನ ವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನವರಂಗದ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ನಾಲ್ಕು ದುಂಡು ಗಂಭಗಳು ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯ ಚಾತುರ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಂಭಗಳ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿಲಾಬಾಲಕಿಯರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತವೆ. ಇವು ತೀಡಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಗೊಂಬೆಗಳು, ಹೂಬಳ್ಳಿಗಳುಮತ್ತು ತಾಳ ಮದ್ದಲೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕುಣಿಯುವ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ನಮಗೂ ಕುಣಿಯ ಬೇಕೆಂದೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ತಂಭಗಳು ಎರಡಡಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ದಾದ ಚೌಕಾಕಾರದ ಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಂತಿವೆ. ಈ ಕಂಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮಣಿಹಾರ, ಪತ್ರ ಲತೆ, ಲತಾ ಸುರಳಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಇವುಗಳು ಮೀರಿ ಮೀರಿ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ನುಣುಪಾಗಿದೆ.

ನವರಂಗದ ಮಧ್ಯೆನಿಂತು ಕತ್ತೆತ್ತಿ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಹರಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಎರಡೇ ಎರಡು ಸ್ತಂಭಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಏಕ ಶಿಲೆಯು ಅಲಂಕಾರಿಕ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ರೂಪಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ವಿಷ್ಣು, ಶಿವನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ "ಮಕರ ತೋರಣ" ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಗಜ ಚಿತ್ರ ವಿವಿಧ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಟ್ಟು ಕುಣಿಯುವ ಕಟಿಬಂಧ, ಉದರ ಬಂಧ, ಕರಣ ಕುಂಡಲ ಕಾಲ್ಗಡಗಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿದ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ.

ಈ ಮಕರ ತೋರಣವನು ದಾಟಿ ಮುಂದೆಸಾಗಿದರೆ ಗರ್ಭಗುಡಿಯಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಮಹಾದ್ವಾರವು ಅಲಂಕಾರಿಕ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಜಾಲಂದರ, ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ದ್ವಾರ ಕುಸುರಿನ ಪಂಚ ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು ಪಟ್ಟಿಕೆಗಳು 4-5 ಇಂಚು ಅಗಲವಾಗಿವೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ನೃತ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಗೀತ ಮೇಳಗಳು, ತಾಳ ತಮ್ಮಟಿ ಮದ್ದಲಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಕುಣಿಯುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು, ಆರತಿ ಪಡಿಯಚ್ಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತಿದಂತೆ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಹೊಸ್ತಿಲದ ತಮ್ಮಟ, ಎಡಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಂಖ ಮತ್ತು ಚಕ್ರಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮುಂದೆ ಕಣ್ಣರಳಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರನ ಮೂರ್ತಿ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂರ್ತಯ ಎದುರು ಚಿಕ್ಕದಾದ ನಂದಿ ಪವಡಿಸಿದೆ.

ಮಹಾದೇವ ದಂಡನಾಯಕನು ಮಹಾದೇವ ಮಂದಿರದ ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆಯ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ 'ಮೂರ್ತಿ ನಾರಾಯಣ'ಮತ್ತು ತಾಯಿ 'ಚಂದಲೇಶ್ವರಿ'ಯರ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಚಂದಲೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವುಗಳ ಮುಂಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಸ ಭೈರವ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅದರ ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ಧಾರ ಕೆಲಸ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಹಲವಾರು ಕಡೆ ಲಿಂಗ ಮಂಟಪಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಆನ್ನೇಯ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಭಗ್ನಗೊಂಡ ಒಂದು ಉತ್ತಮ ರಂಗ ಸಜ್ಜಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡ ಕಟ್ಟಡವಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಾಚ್ಯವಸ್ತು ಇಲಾಖೆಯವರು ಇದನ್ನು ' ಡ್ಯಾನ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಹಾಲ್ ' (ನೃತ್ಯ ಶಾಲೆ) ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ವಿಶಾಲವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕಟ್ಟಡದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಚತ್ತು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬಿದ್ದು ಹೋಗಿದೆ. ರಾಜಾಶ್ರಯ ಪಡೆದ ನರ್ತಕಿಯರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೃತ್ಯದ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲಭರರಿತ ಕಿಲ್ಗೊಂಡ ' ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಪಡೆದ ಭಾವಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ ₹. ಈ ಕಿಲ್ಗೊಂಡದಿಂದಲೇ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರ ಅರ್ಚನೆಯ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಪೂರೈಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಭೀಕರ ಬರಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಬತ್ತದಂಥ ಈ ಬಾವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲವು ಧಾರಾಳವಾಗಿ ತುಂಬಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಇದು ಬತ್ತಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದರ ತಳ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ತೊಟ್ಟಿಲಿನಂತೆ ಇದ್ದು, ಗೋಪುರದ ತುದಿಯ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಯ ಸಮನಾಗಿದೆ.

ಮಂದಿರದ ಮುಂಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ನೀರಿನ ರಾಶಿಯನ್ನೇ ಹೊತ್ತಿರುವ 10-12 ಫರ್ಲಾಂಗ್ ಉದ್ದದ ' ಶಿವತೀರ್ಥ' ಅಥವಾ ಪುಷ್ಕರಣೆ ಇದೆ. ದೇವಗಂಗೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಹರಿದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದಳಂತೆ. ಮೋಡಗಳು ಈ ಪುಷ್ಕರಣಿಯ ಮೇಲ್ಬಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ನಿಂತು ನೀರನ್ನು ಸುರಿದು ಹರ್ಷೋದ್ದಾರ ಉಂಟು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವೆಂದು ಶಾಸನದ ಸಾಲುಗಳು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಈ ಬೇಳ್ವಲದ ಫಲವತ್ತಾದ ಭೂಮಿ ಸುತ್ತ ಮುತ್ತ ತೋಟ ಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳಿಂದ ನಗರದ ಶೋಭೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಫಲವೃತ್ತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆಕರ್ಷಿತನಾದ ದೇವೇಂದ್ರನು ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ನಂದನವನಗಳಿಂದ ಅಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ತರಿಸಿ, ಅಮರಾವತಿಯ ತನ್ನ ಉಪವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಡುವ ಆಸೆ ತಳೆದಿದ್ದನಂತೆ ಎಂದು ವರ್ಣಿಸುವ ಮಾತು ಶಾಸನ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕವಿ ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅದೇ ನೆಂದರೆ "ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಕಲೆಯು ತಲೆಯೊಡೆದು ನಾಡಿನ ದಿಗಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿದು ಜನಮನಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಸಿ ಆನಂದವನ್ನುಂಟು ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ವಿಲ್ಪಿಯ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ" .ಚಿರಶಾಂತಿಯು ನಿನ್ನ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಓ ಕಲೆಗಾರ ಬರಿ ಶಿಲೆಯಲ್ಲ ಇದು ವಿಟಿಕೆಯು ಕಲೆಯ E ಆಗರ ನೋಡಾ ಕೈ ಮಾಡಿ ಕರೆಯುತಿದೆ ನಿನ್ನನು ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಲೆಂದು ನನ್ನ ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ನೀನು ಆನಂದಿಸು ಎಂದು". ಈ ಕವಿ ವಾಣಿಯಂತೆ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಶಿಲಾಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳು ದೇಶ - ವಿದೇಶಗಳಿಂದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಲಿವೆ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ನಾನಾ ಮೂಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಜನರು ಬಂದು ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಕುಸುರಿನ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಆನಂದಿಸಿ, ನಕ್ಕು ನಲಿದು, ಹಾಡಿದ ಹರಸಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.

೨.ಶಬ್ದಾಲಂಕಾರಗಳು : ಶಬ್ದಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಸೊಬಗನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದು. (ಬಲ್ಲವನೇ ಬಲ್ಲ ಬೆಲ್ಲದ ರುಚಿಯ) ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಅನುಪ್ರಾಸ , ಯಮಕ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿತ್ರಕವಿತ್ವಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

೩.ಅರ್ಥಾಲಂಕಾರಗಳು : ಅರ್ಥದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಸೊಬಗನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವುದು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಅಲಂಕಾರಗಳಾದ - ಉಪಮೆ, ದೀಪಕ, ರೂಪಕ, ಉತ್ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷೆ, ಅರ್ಥಾಂತರನ್ಯಾಸ, ಶ್ಲೇಷೆ, ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಭಾವೋಕ್ತಿಗಳು.

ಯಮಕ : ಮೂರು ಅಥವಾ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಪದ, ಒಂದು ಪದ್ಯದ ಆದಿ, ಮಧ್ಯ, ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಯತವಾಗಿ ಪುನಃ ಪುನಃ ಬಂದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಮಕ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ದೀಪಕಾಲಂಕಾರ - ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಮತ್ತು ಅಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ಎಂದು ವರ್ಣಿಸುವುದು

ಉದಾ-

‘ಗಿಳಿಮರಿ ನೆರೆಯದ ನಂದನ ವಳಿಸಿಸು ವಿಹರಿಸು ಪೂಗಳ ಕಳವರದಿಂ

ದೆಳೆಯಂಚೆಡಿಯಿಡದ ತಣ್ಬುಳ್ಳಿ ಬರ್ಬರ ನಾಡದ ದಂಗಳಂ ಮಂಜುಳ ಮಲ್ಲಿ’

ಮೇಲಿನ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ ಗಿಳಿ ಮರಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ತೋಟ, ಮರಿದುಂಬಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ತೋಟ, ಹಂಸಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಸರೋವರ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಅಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಡದ ಅಂಗಳ ಅಂಗಳವಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ’.

ರೂಪಕ ಅಲಂಕಾರ – ಉಪಮೇಯ(ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ವಸ್ತು) , ಉಪಮಾನ(ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಮಾಡುವ ವಸ್ತು) ಎರಡೂ ಒಂದೇ ಎಂದು ವರ್ಣಿಸುವುದು.

ಉ.ದಾ -

‘ಸೀತೆಯ ಮುಖ ಕಮಲ’ ಉಪಮೇಯ = ಸೀತೆಯ ಮುಖ. ಉಪಮಾನ = ಕಮಲ

ದೃಷ್ಟಾಂತ ಅಲಂಕಾರ - ಎರಡು ಬೇರೆಬೇರೆ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳು ಅರ್ಥ ದಿಂದ ಒಂದಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಬಿಂಬದಂತೆ ತೋರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಅದು ದೃಷ್ಟಾಂತ ಅಲಂಕಾರ

ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ ಸಂದೇಶ

ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮಗುವೂ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಲೇ ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ, ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ನಾವು ಅದನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಪಮಾನವನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಮತ್ತೆ ಅದನ್ನು ‘ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ’ನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುವುದೆ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವಾಗಬೇಕು.

ಹುಟ್ಟುವಾಗ ‘ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ’ನಾಗಿಯೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ನಾವು ದೇಶ, ಭಾಷೆ, ಮತ, ಜಾತಿ, ಜನಾ೦ಗ, ವರ್ಣ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಉಪಾಧಿಗಳಿಂದ ಬದ್ದನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಅವೆಲ್ಲವುಗಳಿಂದ ಪಾರಾಗಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ‘ಬುದ್ಧ’ನನ್ನಾಗಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸುವುದೇ ನಮ್ಮ ವಿದ್ಯೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ನಾಗರೀಕತೆ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಆದ್ಯ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವಾಗಬೇಕು. ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಮಕ್ಕಳೆಲ್ಲ ‘ಅನಿಕೇತನ’ರಾಗಬೇಕು, ಲೋಕ ಉಳಿದು, ಬಾಳಿ ಬದುಕಬೇಕಾದರೆ!

ಮಾನವ ವಿಕಾಸದ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯಾ ಕಾಲದ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸಲು ಮಹಾಪುರುಷರು ಸ೦ಭವಿಸಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರ ವಾಣಿ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಧರ್ಮವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊ೦ಡು ಕಡೆಗೆ ಮತವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಮಿತವಾಯಿತು. ಮಾನವರನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಬಾಳಿಸಬೇಕೆ೦ಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿ೦ದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊ೦ಡ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರ ವಾಣಿ ಮತವಾಗಿ ಮಾದಕವಾಯಿತು. ಒ೦ದು ಯುಗಕ್ಕೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವೆನಿಸಿದ ಧರ್ಮ ಕಾಲಾನುಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಮತವಾಗಿ ನಿರುಪಯುಕ್ತವೆನಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತೊ೦ದು ಹೊಸ ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಯೆಡೆಗೊಟ್ಟುದೂ ಉ೦ಟು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಅನೇಕ ಧರ್ಮಗಳು ಮತಗಳಾಗಿ ಜನತೆಯನ್ನು ಗು೦ಪುಗು೦ಪಾಗಿ ಒಡೆದಿವೆ. ಯುದ್ದಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿಸಿದ್ದಿವೆ, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಕ್ಷೋಭೆಗಳಿಗೆಲ್ಲ ಮೂಲಕಾರಣವೆ೦ಬ೦ತೆ!

ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಯುಗದ ಪ್ರಾಯೋಗಿಕ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನುಮೇಲೆ ಮತ ಮೌಢ್ಯ ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆಯಾಗದು. ವಿನೋಬಾ ಭಾವೆಯವರು ಹಿ೦ದೆ ಹೇಳಿದ೦ತೆ ‘ಮತ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಕಾಲ ಆಗಿಹೋಯಿತು. ಇನ್ನೇನಿದ್ದರೂ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಜ್ಞಾನದ ಕಾಲ ಬರಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.’

ಪಂಚಮಂತ್ರ

ಮನುಜಮತ, ವಿಶ್ವಪಥ, ಸರ್ವೋದಯ, ಸಮನ್ವಯ, ಪೂರ್ಣದೃಷ್ಟಿ – ಈ ಪ೦ಚಮ೦ತ್ರ ಇನ್ನು ಮು೦ದಿನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾಗಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಅ೦ದರೆ, ನಮಗೆ ಇನ್ನು ಬೇಕಾದುದು ಆ ಮತ ಈ ಮತ ಅಲ್ಲ; ಮನುಜ ಮತ. ಆ ಪಥ ಈ ಪಥ ಅಲ್ಲ; ವಿಶ್ವಪಥ. ಆ ಒಬ್ಬರ ಈ ಒಬ್ಬರ ಉದಯ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ; ಸರ್ವರ ಸರ್ವಸ್ತರದ ಉದಯ. ಪರಸ್ಪರ ವಿಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಸಿಡಿದು ಹೋಗುವುದಲ್ಲ; ಸಮನ್ವಯಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು. ಮಿತಮತದ ಆ೦ಶಿಕ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿ೦ದ ಕಾಣುವ ಪೂರ್ಣದೃಷ್ಟಿ. ಯಾವ ಭಾವನೆಗಳು ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಮಾನವರಿಗೂ ಅನ್ವಯವಾಗಬಹುದೊ ಅ೦ತಹ ಭಾವನೆ ಅ೦ತಹ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಬರಿಯ ಯಾವುದೋ ಒ೦ದು ಜಾತಿಗೆ, ಮತಕ್ಕೆ, ಗು೦ಪಿಗೆ, ಒ೦ದು ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅನ್ವಯವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಸರ್ವಕಾಲಕ್ಕೂ ಅನ್ವಯವಾಗುವ ಇವು ಮೂಲಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು. ಈ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಮಾನವರನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಬಾಳಿಸುವತ್ತ ನಡೆದಾವು. ಗು೦ಪುಗಾರಿಕೆಗೆ೦ದೂ ಇವು ತೊಡಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಅದೇನಿದ್ದರೂ ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಕರ್ಮ. ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಸ್ವಾತ೦ತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿಯೂ ಸಮಷ್ಟಿಯ ಉದ್ಧಾರದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಇದರದು. ಈ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳೆಷ್ಟೊ ಅಷ್ಟೂ ಸ೦ಖ್ಯೆಯ ಮತಗಳಿರುವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯ; ಅಷ್ಟೂ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಮಷ್ಟಿಯ ವಿಕಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾದಕವಾಗುವುದೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯ. ಈ ‘ದರ್ಶನ’ವನ್ನೆ ‘ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ ಗೀತೆ’ ಸಾರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಪ್ತಸೂತ್ರ

“ಮನುಷ್ಯಜಾತಿ ತಾನೊ೦ದೆ ವಲ೦” ಎ೦ಬುದನ್ನು ನಿರುಪಾಧಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಬೇಕು.
ವರ್ಣಾಶ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತಿದ್ದುವುದಲ್ಲ, ಅದನ್ನು ಸ೦ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತೊಲಗಿಸಬೇಕು. ಅ೦ದರೆ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ, ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ, ವ್ಯೆಶ್ಯ, ಶೂದ್ರ, ಅ೦ತ್ಯಜ, ಷಿಯಾ, ಸುನ್ನಿ, ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್, ಪ್ರಾಟಿಸ್ಟ೦ಟ್, ಸಿಕ್, ನಿರ೦ಕಾರಿ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ವಿಭಜನೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ನಾಮ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
ಎಲ್ಲ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲ ಮತಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಜಾತಿಪದ್ದತಿಯನ್ನು ಸ೦ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿ, ವಿನಾಶಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು.
‘ಮತ’ ತೊಲಗಿ ‘ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮ’ ಮಾತ್ರ ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ತತ್ವವಾಗಿ ಮಾನ್ಯತೆ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕು.
ಮತ ‘ಮನುಜಮತ’ವಾಗಬೇಕು; ಪಥ ‘ವಿಶ್ವಪಥ’ವಾಗಬೇಕು; ಮನುಷ್ಯ ‘ವಿಶ್ವಮಾನವ’ನಾಗಬೇಕು.
ಮತ ಗು೦ಪು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಬಾರದು. ಯಾರೂ ಯಾವ ಒ೦ದು ಮತಕ್ಕೂ ಸೇರದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನೂ ತಾನು ಕ೦ಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ‘ತನ್ನ’ ಮತಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೇರಬೇಕು. ಅ೦ದರೆ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೋ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಸ೦ಖ್ಯೆಯ ಮತಗಳಿರುವ೦ತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾರೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಮತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿ ಗು೦ಪುಕಟ್ಟಿ ಜಗಳ ಹಚ್ಚುವ೦ತಾಗಬಾರದು.
ಯಾವ ಒ೦ದು ಗ್ರ೦ಥವೂ ‘ಏಕೈಕ ಪರಮ ಪೂಜ್ಯ’ ಧರ್ಮಗ್ರ೦ಥವಾಗಬಾರದು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೂ ತನಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದವುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಓದಿ ತಿಳಿದು ತನ್ನ ‘ದರ್ಶನ’ವನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.

ತುಘಲಕ್ ಸೈನ್ಯವು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತವನ್ನು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿದಾಗ ಒಂದು ಶತಮಾನಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಮಯದ ನಂತರ ಭಯೋತ್ಪಾದನೆ ಮತ್ತು ದುರಂತವು ಬೇಲೂರಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿತು. ಕಲ್ಬುರ್ಗಿಯ ಗಂಗು ಸಾಲಾರ್ ಎಂಬ ಮತಾಂಧ ಸೇನಾಪತಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿ ಅದರ ಮಹಾದ್ವಾರವನ್ನು ಸುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದನು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ಉತ್ತರಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾದ ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿಗಳು ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವ ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ಅದೇ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದರು. ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ, ಹಿಂದಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಪರಂಪರೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಅರಸರ ಅಡಿಪಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಜ್ಯ ನೀತಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಅಂದಿನ ರಾಜವೈಭೋಗವನ್ನು ಸಾರುವಂತೆ ಆಡಂಬರದ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆ, ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ನಿಂತಿದೆ ದೇವಾಲಯ.

ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದ್ವಾರದಲ್ಲೇ ಸ್ವಾಗತಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಂತಿವೆ ಎರಡು ಸುಂದರ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಆನೆಗಳು. ಇದರ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪವು ಅದ್ಬುತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ದೇಗುಲಗಳಿವೆ. ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಪುಷ್ಕರಣಿ ಇದೆ. ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ಆಡಳಿತ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರು ಈ ಪುಶ್ಕರಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಆವರಣದ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ 42 ಮೀಟರ್ ಎತ್ತರದ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಧ್ವಜಸ್ಥಂಭವಿದ್ದು, ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಾಕಾರದ ಬುಡವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ಥಂಭದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಎಂದರೆ, ಇದರ ಬುಡಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಆಧಾರಗಳಿಲ್ಲ. ಪಾಯ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲದ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಏರುಪೇರಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಚವೂ ವಿಚಲಿತವಾಗದೆ ನಿಂತಿರುವುದು ವಿಶೇಷ.

ಕೇವಲ ಧ್ವಜಸ್ಥಂಭದ ಬುಡವಲ್ಲ, ಇಡೀ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನೇ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಾಕಾರದ ಅಡಿಗಟ್ಟಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಾಕಾರವು ಹೊಯ್ಸಳ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪದ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಹೊರಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಗಳ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ವರ್ಣಿಸಲಸದಳವಾಗಿವೆ. ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಆನೆಗಳು, ಸಿಂಹಗಳು, ಕುದುರೆಗಳು ಬಲ, ಧೈರ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ವೇಗದ ಪ್ರತೀಕವಾಗಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಕಡೆ ಕೆತ್ತನೆ ಕಂಡಿವೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡಾ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕೇವಲ ಆನೆಯ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಯೇ 600ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಇವೆ.

ಸಿಂಹದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರ ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ಲಾಂಛನವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಲಾಂಛನದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಹೀಗಿದೆ. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಸಿಂಹವು ಹಳ್ಳಿಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಜನರನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಬಂದಾಗ ಸಳನೆಂಬ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಅದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೋರಾಡಿ ಜಯಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿದ್ದ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲ ಹೊಯ್ ಸಳ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲು ಸಳ ಎಂದರ್ಥ. ಈ ಘಟನೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ಹೊಯ್ಸಳ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾಯಿತು.

Dharmasthala Temple – An Overview

The Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple although dedicated to Lord Shiva, is very unique in nature. Besides the primary deity, there are other idols like Dharma Daivas and Shakti or Ammanavaru as well as the four Guardian Spirits of Lord Dharma such as Kalarkayi, Kanyakumari, Kalarahu and Kumaraswamy.

Dharmasthala Temple – History

There is an interesting story associated with the temple. The area was ideally in a village called Kuduma in Belthangady. The famous Jain Bunt chief – Birmanna Pergade, used to reside in his house Nelliadi Beedu along with his wife, Ammu Ballalthi.

As legend has it, one fine day, the four guardian angels of Lord Dharma masked themselves as human beings and entered the house. They were on a quest of Dharma preaching and propagation and received a very warm welcome in return. They even requested the chieftain to vacate the house, which the former accepted. Finally, they ended up making separate shrines for the 4 Daivas as well. A lot of this communication happened over dreams, and finally, dreams turned into reality.

After Pergade made the shrines, Brahman priests were invited to conduct the rituals, who then asked Pergade to construct a Shivalinga right next to the Daivas. The temple was later constructed around these significant structures.

Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple – Family History

Birmanna Pergade and Ammu Ballalthi, the makers of the temple ideally, are the hereditary trustees of this temple. Different positions or designations are assigned to each member. While the eldest member acts as the Chief Administrator or Dharma Adhikari, he earns the title of the Heggade. He is entrusted with the duties of solving disputes of revolving around criminal and civil cases. This has been going on for twenty years now and currently, Veerendra Heggade is the Chief Administrator.

Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple – Code of Conduct

The devotees are expected to conform to certain rules to pay respect to the sentiments associated with the temple. The men are supposed to remove their shirt and vest. While the ladies are not allowed to enter the temple wearing nighties, the men cannot enter wearing half pants.

Children below two years cannot enter the Sanctum Sanctorum. The following is allowed: offering food or annadana, giving free medicine or aushadhadana, helping the needy or abhayadana and providing education or vidyadana.

A number of festivals are celebrated at the place including the Ganesha festival, Diwali and Navarathri. Besides this, during the summer month of April, the Pattanajae Jatre is celebrated just before monsoons. Climb a Famous Hill

The trip to the region is incomplete without heading to the Badinede Betta hill. The famous shrine and dwelling place of the four Dharma Daivas is atop the hill. The climb is totally worth it.

Huli Vesha is performed to pay tribute to Goddess Durga, whose official animal is tiger. Goddess Durga is often known for her aggressive stance, capable of keeping evil forces away from her devotees.

An operatic form of dance theatre, Yakshagana might be Karnataka’s most famous cultural exports. Its origin can be traced back to the Bhakti movement of the 8th century, though Yakshagana’s earliest clear forms may have originated in the 12th and 13th century. Towards the 18th and 19th the art form seemed to take off in the western regions of Karnataka, drawing inspiration from secular and religious life. Elements of Yakshagana:

The Act: Each performance typically focuses on a small sub story (known as ‘Prasanga’) from ancient Hindu epics of Ramayana or Mahabharata. The show consists of both stage performances by talented artists and commentary (performed by lead singer or Bhagavatha) accompanied by traditional music.

The Music: Musical instruments used in Yakshagana include Chande (drums), Harmonium, Maddale, Taala (mini metal clappers) and flute among others.

The Dress: Costumes used in Yakshagana are very unique and elaborate. Large size head gear, coloured faces, elaborate costumes all over the body and musical beads on the legs (Gejje). Performers need great physique to perform with heavy costume for several hours and also strong voice and acting/dancing skills.

The Troupes: There are several popular troupes (known as Melas) performing Yakshagana throughout the year. Saligrama mela, Dharmasthala Mela, Mandarthi Mela, Perduru Mela are some of the leading names.

History: Halebeedu Hoysaleshwara Temple was built by Chief Architect Ketamala on orders of Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana during his tenure in 12th century. Hoysaleshwara Temple is built on the shores of a man-made lake called Dwarasamudra. Hoysaleshwara Temple was damaged by invading armies of Delhi Sultanate.

Design: Hoysaleshwara Temple is built in Hoysala style architecture, with a Nandi (official vehicle of Lord Shiva) statue guarding the temple from outside. Interiors feature images of flowers and animals, carvings of Hindu epics and sculptures showcasing Shila Balikes (Stone Girls or sculpture of young women in dancing poses)

Other temples: Apart from Hoysaleshwara Temple, Halebeedu is also known for Kedareshwara Temple and multiple Jain temples. Kedareshwara Temple was built by King Veera Ballala the second and Queen Ketaladevi.

Museum: An archeological museum maintained by ASI inside Halebeedu Temple complex houses over 1500 sculptures and artifacts of Hoysala era.

Visiting Hours: Halebeedu Temple complex is open from 6.30 AM till 9 PM.

Places to visit nearby: Beluru Chennakeshava Temple is often visited along with Halebeedu (17 kms away).

How to reach Halebeedu: Halebeedu is 210 kms from Bengaluru and 170 kms from Mangaluru. Banavara is the nearest railway station (30 kms). Halebeedu has good bus service from district head quarter Hasana (33 kms)

Beluru Channakeshava Temple

Beluru is a historic temple town in South Karnataka, known for Chennakeshava Temple built in Hoysala style architecture. Beluru is situated on the banks of Yagachi river and was capital of Hoysala Dynasty, who ruled South India from 11th Century till 14th century.

Chennakeshava Temple: Beluru Chennakeshava Temple was built in 12th century on orders of King Vishnuvardhana. Chennakeshava is a form of Lord Vishnu. Around the temple, the intricate carvings depict stories from Hindu epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharatha, along with showcasing cultural grandeur during Hoysala tenure. Chennakeshava Temple is open daily from 7.30 AM till 7.30 PM.

Nearby: Halebeedu (20 kms), Mullayyanagiri Peak (50 kms), Shettihalli Church (55 kms), Yagachi Dam (4 kms) and Sakaleshpura (35 kms) are some attractions that can be visited along with Beluru.

Visit: Beluru is 220 kms from Bengaluru and 155 kms from Mangaluru. Mangaluru is also the nearest airport. Hasana junction 40 kms away is the nearest railway station. Bus services are available to reach Beluru from Hasana city. Beluru and surrounding areas are best explored in a taxi/own vehicle.

The Bangalore Fort or the City Fort

The Bangalore Fort or the City Fort was built by Kempe Gowda who was a chieftain of the Vijaynagar Empire in the year 1537. The fort was initially build as a mud fort but was later reinforced with stone by Haider Ali the ruler of Mysore Kingdom and father of the famous Tipu Sultan.

The fort was the stronghold of Tipu Sultan during the Mysore wars when Lord Caorwallis lead the attack on the fort. A marble tablet in the fort wall records the spot where the British breached the fort wall leading to its capture in 1791.

Most of the fort walls fell to ruin and only two of the 26 bastions remain today

The fort lies close to one of the oldest markets in Karnataka the K.R. Market, and its very easy to reach by bus, auto and taxi. Make sure you also visit Tipus Sultans Summer Palace which is about 100 meters away from the fort.

STONE TEMPLES OF BELUR AND HALEBEEDU

The Hoysala Kings ruled most part of Karanataka, the Southern state of India from 10th to 14th century. These Kings were great patrons of Art, Architecture and commissioned some of the best stone temples ever built.

Chennakesava Temple, Belur

The city of Belur was the capital of the Hoysala kingdom until it was annexed by the Mughal ruler Allauddin Khilji. The Mughals looted and plunders the capital city after which Halebidu was established as the new capital. The temples and monuments of Belur are the best examples of Hoysala architecture and the highlight is the nature of the carvings; so intricate that they look like carvings made on sandalwood rather than stone.

The temples are build on raised platforms and at Chennakesava temple elephants are carved on to the base of the platform.

The charging Elephants at the lower section symbolize strength and stability ,the lions above symbolize courage and valor and the horses above them symbolize speed.

CHENNAKESAVA TEMPLE

The most famous Hoysala temple was built to commemorate the victory of the Hoysalas over the Cholas in the great battle of Talakkad. It took 103 years and talented workmen to built this magnificent stone temple and is worshiped till date .The interiors of the temple are intricately carved, the strenght of stone has given way to the beauty of idols, ornamental carvings that almost look like metal grill work. The temple was built for Lord Vishnu and Chennakesava literally translates to Handsome Vishnu.

The ornate carvings found in the different Hoysala temples indicate that music and dance were given high importance during this period.

The temples at Belur are carved out of soap stone (steatite), this stone is soft and easy to chisel but attains rock hard firmness when exposed to the atmosphere.

The exterior walls have carvings of every god in the Hindu religion and some from Jainism . The Hoysals were Jains before they converted to Hinduism.

HALEBEEDU

Halebeedu was well fortified with huge boulders and a moat to keep out invaders from the north. The Hoysala empire extended from river Kaveri in the west and Krishna in the east and was enriched by fertile deltas of the rivers.The prosperity and wealth of the Hoysalas kings attracted the forces of the Delhi Sultanate, who invaded and annexed the town in 1311. The invaders took back with them camel loads of gold, silver and precious gems. Halebeedu was attacked a second time in the year 1326 after which the Hoysalas were forced to relinquish their beautiful capital. It was never re-occupied again and the capital was moved to Belure just 16 kms away.
