Tribute to mothers globally, and especially the mother of all mothers, Our Lady Mother Mary...
Perhaps little known to the world is the life of Mary, a person holy to God, while in her mother’s womb, Anna. Anna was very, very old, and desolate for not having a child, until one day, an angel of God, believed to be Archangel Michael, who came to tell her and her husband that they would soon be the parents of a baby girl. The angel appeared to both of Mary’s parents at separate times and places. Afterwards the angel told Anna to meet up with her husband at the golden gate, and she did. From there they told of their angel encounter and about how they would become parents of a baby girl. Soon afterwards Anna conceived and gave birth to Mary. Mary was a holy child from the onset, and was brought to live and be raised in the holy temple of God just as Samuel had been prior. At age three, when Mary was weaned from her mother, she was brought to the temple to be raised there. Her parents were very well to do. Her father arranged that other young children should be raised in the temple with Mary so she would have company and not be alone.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Dressed in Cloak with Stars

The feast in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe goes back to the sixteenth century. Chronicles of that period tell us the story. A poor Indian named Cuauhtlatohuac was baptized and given the name Juan Diego. He was a 57-year-old widower and lived in a small village near Mexico City. On Saturday morning, December 9, 1531, he was on his way to a nearby barrio to attend Mass in honor of Our Lady.
He was walking by a hill called Tepeyac when he heard beautiful music like the warbling of birds. A radiant cloud appeared and within it a young Native American maiden dressed like an Aztec princess. The lady spoke to him in his own language and sent him to the Bishop of Mexico, a Franciscan named Juan de Zumarraga. The Bishop was to build a chapel in the place where the lady appeared.
Eventually the bishop told Juan Diego to have the lady give him a sign. About this same time Juan Diego’s uncle became seriously ill. This led poor Diego to try to avoid the lady. The lady found Diego, nevertheless, assured him that his uncle would recover and provided roses for Juan to carry to the bishop in his cape or tilma.
When Juan Diego opened his tilma in the bishop’s presence, the roses fell to the ground and the bishop sank to his knees. On Juan Diego’s tilma appeared an image of Mary exactly as she had appeared at the hill of Tepeyac. It was December 12, 1531.
The coarsely woven material of the tilma which bears the picture is as thin and open as poor sacking. It is made of vegetable fiber, probably maguey. It consists of two strips, about seventy inches long by eighteen wide, held together by weak stitching. The seam is visible up the middle of the figure, turning aside from the face. Painters have not understood the laying on of the colors. They have deposed that the “canvas” was not only unfit but unprepared, and they have marveled at apparent oil, water, tempera, etc. colouring in the same figure. They are left in equal admiration by the flower-like tints and the abundant gold. They and other artists find the proportions perfect for a maiden of fifteen. The figure and the attitude are of one advancing. There is flight and rest in the eager supporting angel. The chief colours are deep gold in the rays and stars, blue-green in the mantle, and rose in the flowered tunic.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron of Mexico and the Americas in whole.

And in the past four-hundred-and-eighty years since Her first appearance on Tepeyac Hill, an area just north of what is present day Mexico City, Her image—at once sacred and iconic—has been translated, multiplied and re-produced innumerable times and in just as many conceivable forms and methods, from high art to Pop and kitsch art: tattoos; statues; religious candles, medals, prayer cards and figurines; posters; graffiti murals; mosaics; stained-glass windows; flags and banners; T-shirts; jewelery; She has even been caricatured in sugar-paste as a miniature figurine to crown the tops of cupcakes—all have borne Her image. Her shrine—one of the oldest and most renowned in the world—is the most visited in the world, drawing an estimated ten million visitors from around the globe annually, all of whom seeking Her intercession. And as with other of Her famous shrines—most notably, Lourdes (the Midi-Pyrenees village situated in France), Fatima (Portugal), and, more recently, Medjugorje (located in the southern part of Bosnia Herzegovina, in what was formerly the Republic of Yugoslavia)—pilgrims flock to Mexico City in droves not only to unburden themselves, but in search of spiritual, emotional as well as physical healing from Our Lady of Guadalupe.

You are the Woman clothed with the sun who labors to give birth to Christ while Satan, the Red Dragon, waits to voraciously devour your child.So too did Herod seek to destroy your Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and massacred many innocent children in the process. So today does abortion killing many innocent unborn children and exploiting many mothers in its attack upon human life and upon the Church, the Body of Christ.

Mother of the Innocents, we praise God in you for His gifts to you of your Immaculate Conception, your freedom from actual sin; your fullness of grace, your Motherhood of God and the Church, your Perpetual Virginity and your Assumption in body and soul into heaven.

O Help of Christians, we beg you to protect all mothers of the unborn and the children within their wombs. We plead with you for your help to end the holocaust of abortion. Melt hearts so that life may be revered!

Holy Mother, we pray to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart for all mothers and all unborn children that they may have life here on earth and by the most Precious Blood shed by your Son that they may have eternal life with Him in heaven. We also pray to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart for all abortionists and all abortion supporters that they may be converted and accept your Son, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior. Defend all of your children in the battle against Satan and all of the evil spirits in this present darkness.

We desire that the innocent unborn children who die without Baptism should be baptized and saved. We ask that you obtain this grace for them and repentance, reconciliation and pardon from God for their parents and their killers.

Let there be revealed, once more, in the history of the world the infinite power of merciful love. May it put an end to evil. May it transform consciences. May your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of hope. May Christ the King reign over us, our families, cities, states, nations and the whole of humanity.
