Don’t you just love the dirty- looking brown tiles in combination with the wooden toilet and the brass fixtures? Classy.

And to add to the claustrophobic feeling of this tiny space, there was a very dark wooden ceiling in there before we started our diy mission. Here it is partly taken down already:

We were actually really pleased with the simple white ceiling that we uncovered since we were fully prepared for more undescribable hideousness.

In order to transform this space, here’s what we have planned:

  1. remove the rest of the wooden ceiling
  2. tear out the tiles
  3. plaster the walls
  4. paint the walls, the window and the old heater
  5. install a new floor

It is such a classic that could cost you quite a lot if you buy it. This diy version, however, achieves a great effect without the added cost. The tutorial can be found here.

Here’s the cheap office helper (only $ 4 at our grocery store!) before:

It was useful but just too boring. To make it a bit more interesting, we got out some leftover paint from this project. We made sure to tape the cork and magnet surfaces off securely and got started on the wooden frame. Since the frame was so thin we used a small pencil here.

We made sure to let it dry completely before removing the tape again:
