The 18th Annual New Bern Heart Ball

The 2012 Annual Heart Ball will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the New Bern

Convention Center. The event kicks off at 6:00 with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed
by seated dinner, live auction and dancing to the Motown and 70’s classic tunes performed by
Class Act, of Virginia featuring band leader Stephon Hurt. Tickets are $100 each, tax deductible
and can be purchased by contacting the American Heart Association or visiting the website. The
cost of the ticket includes all drinks, dinner and dancing. Tables of 10 may also be purchased
and will include you and/or your company’s name in the program. Attire is formal.

There will be approximately 28 Silent Auction Items, ranging from week long beach stays, week
long mountain stays, long weekend vacations, both local and afar, helicopter and plane flights,
women’s health and fitness weekend retreat, gym memberships, home appliances, art and
jewelry, to name a few of the items being offered this year.

After dinner there will be a fast paced Live Auction on the following 5 amazing Items:
The highest bidder for this package can take home a 4-nights stay for 2 in your very own private
cottage at Jungle Bay Resort and Spa, a luxurious nature based eco-spa, committed to the
wellness of its guests through its environmentally sustainable tourism practices. Jungle Bay
Resort and Spa is located in the oceanfront jungles of Dominica, W.I., and this package
includes daily breakfast and several spa treatments.

A Meeting of the Minds

Some of New Bern's Creative Minds met earlier this week to discuss ways in which attendees might pool their talents and resources to help promote New Bern, and possibly assist new businesses with their marketing needs. Irene Relief -WCTI TV 12 Food Drive Today-Friday!

I think there may have been some confusion about the "Irene Relief -WCTI TV 12 Food Drive" which is currently in progress. Today (FRIDAY) is the day that food donations are being accepted. Everyone who is willing and able should participate. This is the simplest way to help your less fortunate neighbors. Non-perishables are preferred, and baby items.

The New Bern drop off place is open until 6pm. The building is at the end of Glenburnie Rd, next to Hatteras Yachts. You will see the activity. Come on New Bern!

Downtown ArtWalk is Friday, May 13th, 5pm til 8:30 pm. and Mitchell Hardware is having a "Book Signing" for a new book, entitled: "Military Kids Speak" featuring author Julie Rahm. Plus, local artist Dee Dricks will be playing the Dulcimer at the store, during the Book Signing! It's a beautiful sound, and you really shouldn't miss it!

Trader Construction Co. helps a New Bern neighborhood recover from storm damage.

Bill Taylor, the equipment manager of Trader Construction, said he and his workers volunteering their resources to Falcon Bridge was the least they could do. “We are located about eight miles from where the storm hit,” Taylor said. “We just wanted to give a helping hand to our neighbors.”

Carl Huddle, president of Trader Construction, said his company, has been in New Bern for 50 years and many of the employees worked in surrounding counties that were affected by the storm. “We are just joining in with what all of the other neighbors there are doing,” Huddle said. “There are several volunteers in there. We, being neighbors, thought we should chip in as well.”
