Do you ever wonder what other real foodies eat? I do. And in case you do, too, once a week I'm going to share what I ate the day before. It's a food diary of sorts, although I don't actually record what I eat each day. I certainly don't count calories or fat grams. Mostly, I simply follow my cravings, because I believe that my body knows what it needs.

Kombucha is a wonderful beverage that helps your liver to cleanse, your gut to heal and your energy level to rise, among other important things. We drink kombucha daily for its health benefits.

I brew my own kombucha at home to save on the expense of store-bought kombucha and to always have kombucha on hand when my family desires it. You can find out how I do that here.

Of course, I'm not talking about the refined, white crystals that fill most salt shakers in our homes and restaurants. That stuff is bad news! Your doctor was right to tell you to cut table salt from your diet. It will raise your blood pressure and cause inflammation-

Children and Forced Affection

When my boys were preschool age and younger, family members would sometimes act offended when the boys refused hugs and kisses. My husband and I tried to stifle our eye rolls as family complained that our children were mean.

Mean? Hmmm. We prefer to call it discerning.

We never insisted that our children be affectionate with anyone toward whom they did not feel natural affection. My

Village Green Network's Spring Ebook Bundle is Here!

When I was a child, my mom was known for her amazing shredded, BBQ venison, so I'm proud to say that this simple BBQ chicken sandwich was inspired by her delicious creation. Just like my mom, I use the slow-cooker to make a dry, boring cut of meat (in this case, chicken breasts) into a tender, flavorful dish.

As I've learned more about real-food cooking over the past year, I've begun to experiment with turning old, processed-food favorites real-food dishes. As it turns out, there are very few classic SAD stand-bys that can't be revised to be included in a real food diet.
I was raised and still reside in The Deep South. The Bible Belt. The Heart of Dixie. Call it what you want, but know that food

A Valentine's Day Without Candy

Valentine's Day and candy go together like, well, Easter and candy. But, not in my house. Last year I took the plunge into de-sugaring our holidays. As we approached our first candy-centric holiday in April, I vowed not to encourage poor health habits by purchasing candy for my children. You can read about it here.
