I was voted in by my fellow fire fighters last week ! I am now the greenhorn in the Cairo VFD and proud of it. The guys that are involved are some of the nicest guys i've met. I can't wait to serve our town and be a help to protect our community !

2014-04-05T08:44:00.001-07:00

Our latest addition to the farm was born on 4/4/14. He's a bull calf and healthy as a horse. Good thing i was home yesterday to take care of business, then back to the restaurant. His name is Stewart after Tony Stewart, born on 4/4/14 and our fourth cow, just made sense !

New signs !

2014-03-24T12:32:00.001-07:00

We got some new signs made up for Shemp's. Also 3 new picnic tables for the deck !

I want to give back !

2014-03-23T15:27:00.002-07:00

Since my last post , i filled out an application to join our towns volunteer fire company. Since we bought our restaurant in Cairo ,W.V. the town has really supported us. I want to dedicate time to helping them when they need it . There's a background check , vote in , then training . I'm up for the challenge !

Firefighter for a day !

2014-03-18T19:36:00.000-07:00

So i'm at the restaurant taking out the trash to my truck. I hear a siren , then a yell for help. I ran down the street and one of our fire trucks pulled up. Our fire chief said he needed help because no other volunteers were there. So i jumped in the truck and Jerry Perdue climbed in to.He drove about 2 miles up to a pickup truck on fire down the road. Under the chiefs supervision we got the hose out and i got to put the fire out. Then we went back to the station , Jerry got to blow the horn. These were things we always wanted to do since we were kids. Then we refilled the trucks at the fire hydrant. What a great day , it's great i got to help!

2014-03-12T16:24:00.001-07:00

The WBOY channel 12 in West Virginia came

out to our restaurant and did an interview with us. It's called "Restaurant Roadtrip" and we were nominated to be aired. To see the video go to , www.wboy.com , look for special reports then click on Restaurant Roadtrip and we are there. We think their review is going to promote alot of business for us. A big " Thank You" goes out to Katie Anderson, Chris and all involved at the WBOY for the great job they did !!!

Party with a crane ?

Check us out at " Shemp's Cafe" and like us on facebook. So our latest addition to the place is a " Big Choice crane machine". We just thru a surf & turf party to thank all our friends for their help and support ! On the menu was " Swamp boil & Prime rib " appitizers , dessert and refreshments ! Jim "Cornbread" Petry played for us too !

Our tribute is complete !

2014-01-19T11:01:00.001-08:00

I have been working on the frame and lightbox for Jim. He gave us the glass from a pinball machine. He use to make these at a place he worked & thought it would look good in our restaurant. So i decide since he plays for us so often , i would dedicate it to him. With help from Jerry , our lettering & lighting guy its all complete. It now hangs in Shemp's for all to see !

Jim Petry is playing guitar and some good classic rock on Saturday the 11th at Shemp's Cafe !!!

The sign says it all !

2013-12-25T12:48:00.002-08:00

I got Katie a personalized sign for the restaurant for Christmas. I think it fits perfectly!

The words out !

2013-12-17T19:11:00.000-08:00

Our local county newspaper called us and wanted to do an interview with us. We gladly excepted ! Now we are in the newspaper again for our new restaurant and the story behind it. Our lives have really become exciting being celebrities here in West Virginia !

63 is ok with me !

2013-12-04T11:21:00.001-08:00

We came home from running errands and i sat outside for a bit. Here it is 3 weeks from Christmas and it's 63 degrees out. Not that i'm complaining but, it's a good way to get sick! So i look around to see the animals were all feeling that way too. I had to get the camera for this kodak moment. Oh yeh and if you haven't been to "SHEMPS" yet , you need to come out Friday night at 6:00pm to see " Jim Petry".

Big Surprise !!!

2013-11-28T15:46:00.001-08:00

I came home early from the restaurant on Sunday, to rest for opening day of buck. I'm sitting at the table having some pizza Katie made for me for lunch. I look out and see extra legs on my one cow. So i got a better view with my binoculars and what a shock i got. There was a calf standing next to it's mom, that i thought wasn't due till March. It's like i was meant to be home to help him into the barn and on the teat. We named him Chilly after our favorite 6 year old customer suggested we call him.So in a way Ryan , he's your calf buddy. Chilly is very healthy and jumping around in the barn. I got some pics !

Dee and the Jeep party !

2013-11-14T19:25:00.003-08:00

Our newest addition to the farm is "Dee" , she is a bred heifer. How i came up with her name is because her ear tag # is 3. First thing that number reminds me of is Dale Earnhart , initials D.E. or Dee ! She is half black angus , half herford and is called a " White face", in the pics you will see why. I sold " Buckey and Stormy" and bought "Dee" to expand the herd. So now it's " Dee and Momma" both bred and expecting in the spring. I have been working in my spare time fixing up the "55 Willys" , new shocks, side mirrors, gas tank neck,tune-up,carb rebuildand and new pair of sneakers! She's running pretty good , i just need to get some kinks out and she'll be just fine. So you will see in the pic the "51" , "55" and "93" were having alittle get together! At Shemp's today Katie, Gerry and i worked on the booths and put legs on yet another new table. We only kept a few small tables for one or two and the rest are larger for comfort. We got some snow the other night too !

WOW !

2013-11-10T19:02:00.000-08:00

Shemp's had another successful weekend with our "Philly" cheesesteak as our best seller. Now that we starting making homemade pizzas, they are our 2nd best seller. Friday nite "Jim Petry" played guitar and sang for us, boy is that a good time.At one time he use to silkscreen pinball machines and he gave me one to display in our cafe. Thanks buddy it will make an awesome addition to our dining room.

Booths?

2013-11-07T17:49:00.000-08:00

We found out after a few weekends that are tables are too small. We heard that Red Lobster upgraded their seating and gave them to Habitat for Humanity. So we went there and bought some for Shemp's . Now we can seat four people comfortably without moving tables. We have the tables in and are using the same seats , until we reupholster them. This Friday , Jim Petry will be playing again, sure to be a great nite! Soon we will have booth seating for your comfort.

Standing room only !

2013-11-02T20:27:00.000-07:00

Friday nite at "Shemp's" we had Jim Petry play guitar and sing for us. He played some good old rock and roll for us and it was a great time! We talked to Jim about being a regular at our place , he agreed to . We also had one of our favorite little guys, Ryan, sing some Christmas carols for us too. What a great nite of music and great food. Jim packed our place for hours and everyone had a great time. Thanks Jim our local "Rock Star" !!!

Live music ?

2013-10-31T16:56:00.001-07:00

Tomorrow is our fourth weekend open at Shemp's. Our good friend's Gerry & Laurie hooked us up with their friend Jim. Jim Petry is a local musican that sings and plays guitar . He will be playing at our restaurant on Friday 11/1/13 at 6:00 , how crazy is that. We will be serving our normal menu ,dessert and coffee for the show ! I will get pictures tomorrow for those who missed out.

Oh my God !

2013-10-27T18:49:00.003-07:00

We have created a monster ! This is our third weekend and "Shemp's is a big hit. We ran a meatloaf dinner as a special and everyone seemed to be happy. My great friend Jerry that runs the radio station in town also has a awesome talent in art. He has made us our menus, coffee mugs, lettering on our front window and very creative signs. We are very lucky to have him as a friend , thanks for all you do for us Jerry ! I got some pics today , sorry it couldn't be sooner but i'm on a great ride and don't want to get off ! Katie couldn't be happier living her dream and she's doing an unbelievable job at it.

2013-10-20T19:12:00.001-07:00

It's sunday nite and were are home from our restaurant for another successful weekend. Our "Philly's Cheesesteaks " are rockin the house ! 2013-10-18T18:39:00.002-07:00

We bought a big screen tv for the restaurant yesterday. Our good friend Jerry , who runs our local radio station 104.3 in Cairo, turned us on to "Roku". Check it out it's really cool. So we can play 3 stooges clips and movies , games. We are also offering our customers free wifi and an awesome Philly cheesesteak! I don't know if i ever mentioned , Katie & I are both from Philly and we know the cheesesteak !LOL ! Next post i promise pictures.
