The test dates have also been changed as follows:

We wish to inform all students that the University of Calabar Post UTME screening earlier scheduled to hold from 19th-20th July, 2013 has been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing ASUU strike.

This is what we found in their news briefing on the school website:

The Post-UTME Screening Exercise for Admission into Full-Time (Degree Programme) of the University of Calabar for the 2013/2014 Academic Session has been postponed due to ASUU strike, the New date will be duly Communicated.

The Exercise will commence from 8am for morning sessions and 12pm for the afternoon session and is strictly for Candidates who applied for 1st degree programmes through JAMB, and who scored 180 and above in UTME Examinations.

A release signed by the Registrar of the Institution, Dr. Mrs. Julia D. Omang indicates that Candidates are to come with their 2013/2014 original UTME result slip, showing candidates photograph/programme, HB Pencil, eraser and a ball pen.

The release also adds that candidates are to pay a non refundable fee of Two thousand Five hundred and Fifty Naira (N2,550) to obtain scratch card or electronic pin and such payment should be made into any of the following Banks, Enterprise Bank, Zenith Bank, Wema Bank, FCMB P.l.c and Micro Finance Bank Ltd.

The University of Calabar Rewards Best Graduating Student With Immediate Employment

This is inform the general public that the best graduating student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), for the 2011/2012 session Mr. Kareem Jubril has been offered automatic employment as a Graduate Assistant in the University of Calabar as soon as he completes his National Youth Service.The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. James Epoke made the offer while declaring close the 10th Induction/Oath-taking Ceremony of the 2011/2012 Medical Laboratory Science Graduates which was held at the University's International Conference Centre.

In an earlier remark, to declare the event open, Prof. Epoke said Unical has been in the fore-front of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria being one of the first Institutions to offer B.SC in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) in the country.

The Vice Chancellor urged the inductees to keep the flag of the University flying noting that the number of inductees is indicative of the level of growth of the Department.

Prof. Epoke advised all stakeholders to take the profession seriously adding that management is trying everything possible to provided facilities and gave assurance of a serious facelift of the entire College of Medical Sciences before the end of his tenure.

The varsity administrator charged the granduands to be worthy ambassadors of the Institution and imbibe the culture of excellence and world best practices in their chosen career.

Offa Polytechnic Official Jailed Over Forgery - See Details

The intervention of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in the education sector got a boost when it successfully prosecuted and secured a conviction against a former top officer of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in Kwara State, Iliya Philemon Hassan, for presenting a fake Master’s Degree certificate to his employers and for perjury.

Hassan, a former Director of Works at the Polytechnic, was sentenced to three months for each offence and fined N150,000 for falsely claiming to have a Master’s Degree in his curriculum vitae.

A statement signed by the commission’s head of media, Folu Olamiti, and made available to Newsmen Friday, said an Ilorin High Court presided over by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice J. Bamigbola, sent Hassan to jail on June 25, 2013, after he was found guilty on a three-count charge of lying. Hassan had claimed in his resume, submitted to the Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, that he had a Master’s Degree in Building Construction Technology from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).

The offence is punishable under Section 25 of the ICPC Act, 2000. The accused will spend his jail term in Madala Prison in Ilorin and the sentence is to run concurrentl.

Mr Vincent Ukoh: Don't Trade Education For Sports

Pupils of Kembos Group of Schools, Isolo, Lagos, have been advised not to sacrifice their education in pursuit of sports. The chairman of the school's inter-house sports, Mr. Vincent Ukoh, said this during the school's inter-house sports. He also called on parents not to discourage their sports- inclined children but they must encourage them to excel in them.
He said, "Pupils who want to pursue a career in sports must first of all acquire education; it would make them to be in a better position, even after they had quit active sports to do other things." Ukoh who cited some educated sport personalities including two former Super Eagles' strikers, Mr. Segun Odegbami and Mr. Adokie Amiesiamaka, urged the pupils to emulate them. He said, "Sport is part of the school curriculum, and many pupils who participate in sporting activities record improvement in their academic performance."

This is to inform the general public and all candidates, who made the Federal University of Technology, Akure their first or/and second choice(s) most preferred institution and obtained a minimum score of 200 in the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), are invited for a computer-based screening exercise in the University from Thursday, 18th July, 2013 to Friday, 19th July, 2013.
Similarly, candidates, who made FUTA their first or/and second choice(s) most preferred institution for the Direct Entry Admission for the 2013/2014 Academic Session are invited for a computer-based Pre-Admission screening exercise on Friday, 19th July, 2013.

Candidates are to come strictly according to their schedule that would be obtained automatically (printed) from the internet after their registration.

Registration Procedure
Each candidate is to make a payment of N2,000.00 (exclusive of bank commission/charges) at any commercial Bank nation-wide using the e-tranzact platform.

Please note that the CANDIDATE’S UTME/DE Registration Number and the full names should be correctly provided at the point of payment.

After the payment, each candidate should visit the University’s website (www.futa.edu.ng) and complete an online Registration Form.

Kaduna Federal Polytechnic Wins ENACTUS National Challenge

This is to inform the general public that students of the Kaduna Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna have won the 2013 ENACTUS National Challenge. Over 1,000 students from 30 universities and polytechnics in the country participated in the three-day competition organised by the ENACTUS Nigeria, in collaboration with the First City Monument Bank held at the Eko Hotels in Lagos on Friday.
At the competition, 30 Enactus teams from the higher institutions stood up to the challenge of defending projects they had embarked on to promote innovation, proffer solutions and also create employment in their communities, local government, state and campuses.

Kaduna Federal Polytechnic won the hearts of the judges for the skills acquisition programme they provided for 70 physically challenged indigenes of the state; training of women in the making of briquette; a cooking fuel made from agricultural wastes materials and their efforts at devising alternative fuels aimed at reducing carbondioxide emission into the atmosphere.

One of the members of the winning team, a 100 Level student of the Department of Social Science and Development, Ms. Shakira Alaga, said they chose to work on empowering physically challenged persons in the North, as the region had the highest population of
affected persons. She said, "In the North, most of the physically challenged persons do not have any form of education, whether primary or secondary.

They are even exploited as their parents force them to beg for alms on the streets. This is a circle of poverty that must be broken, and by providing vocational education for this vulnerable group, we are empowering them, helping them live independently, to contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria."

Bayero University, Kano, Kano State claimed the second position for its research on Neem oil production, construction of Greenhouse and its social media initiative on flooding while the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, came third for its project on alternative energy.

The Country Director of the organisation, Mrs. Adesuwa Ifedi, said the winners were chosen based on the economic, social and environmental relevance of the projects they executed.

This is to inform the general public, aspirants and prospective students of Imo State University that the IMSU 2013/2014 Post-UTME Form is now on sale. All the candidates who score 180 and above in the 2013/2014 UTME Examination conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and choose Imo State University, as their FIRST and/ or SECOND choice institution that the sale of forms for the post-UTME Admissions Screening Test has begun.

HOW TO REGISTER

(1) Obtain a registration card containing your application PIN Code from any branch of any of the following banks in Owerri, Imo State ONLY: IMSU Library, Imsu Microfinance Bank, Zenith Bank, FCMB, Access Bank, UBA Plc, Diamond Bank, First Bank, Union Bank for the payment of N4000.00 Application Fee to the cashier.

House Of Representatives Caution Education Ministry OverUniversity Admission Cut-Off Marks

The Nigerian House of Representatives, yesterday, directed the Federal Ministry of Education to stop universities applying higher cut-off marks for candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, other than that approved by Federal Government in the post-UME test.
Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayat Ahmed Rufai, had on June 17, 2013, announced the Federal Government’s approved cut-off marks for admission into universities as 180 and that of polytechnics and colleges of education as 150 for the 2013/2014 academic year, urging them to comply with the approval.

The House was, however, surprised that some institutions, including the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, University of Lagos, UNILAG, University of Benin, UNIBEN, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, had their post-UTME screening tests cut-off mark pegged at 200 and above.

Similarly, the Federal University of Technology, Minna and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, UNIZIK, put theirs at 190 and 200 for science courses respectively.

This is to inform the general public and all those sitting for the upcoming West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) GCE Nov/Dec 2013, that the time table for the Exam has been released.

According to the document (Time table) released, the examination is expected to commence from 12th August 2013 to 29th October, 2013, with the practical and oral session.

The last of the subject is expected to round up on 5th October, 2013.

This is to inform the general public and all aspirants of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), that the school invites all candidates who have applied for admission as First Choice either through JAMB UTME or Direct Entry (DE) and scored a minimum of 180 in the April 2013 Jamb UTME, to hereby apply for the 2013/2014 Post-UTME screening exercise for the institution.

Candidates who chose UNILORIN as their Second Most Preferred Institution should be on the lookout for information on the University website.

Registration for the Pre-admission screening commences immediately and ends on Sunday 14th July, 2013. You are however advised by Myschool Team to begin registration as from 2nd July when all issues and details are sorted out by the institution.

The Pre-admission Screening Exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, 15th to Saturday 20th July, 2013 using Computer Based Test (CBT) platform at Ilorin and Lagos Centres.

The deadline for the online registration is 14th July, 2013. However, candidates awaiting results but who have registered on or before 14th July, 2013 have the opportunity to submit their results online on or before 15th August, 2013 when the portal will be closed.

WHO CAN APPLY

Candidates must have:

Scored a minimum of 180 marks in the 2013 UTME for all courses except those for which higher cut off marks have been specified on the University website;

Made the University of Ilorin their first choice either at UTME or Direct Entry (DE) and; Obtained Five (5) Credits in relevant ‘O ’ Level subjects, at not more than two sittings except in MBBS where only one sitting is acceptable.

HOW TO APPLY

Registration is online on the university portal at the payment of a total of N2,000.

All candidates are advised to click on Pre-Admission Screening Instructions to carefully read the Registration Instructions:

Click on ADMISSION displayed on the left hand side of the screen.

On Admission Menu displayed, click Pre-Admission Screening Instructions and read carefully.

Type in your JAMB Registration Number and SURNAME in the boxes provided.

Carefully type in your JAMB Registration Number as any error committed will not allow the display of your details.

Thereafter,

UTME candidates should click on the Get Details button for your JAMB information;

DE candidates should click OK button on the dialog box displayed and enter your names; and Click on "Make Payment" link to go to WEBPAY page.

Note: UTME Candidates who are qualified for the course originally chosen can proceed to make payment by supplying the required information.

However, UTME Candidates who are not qualified for the course originally chosen are advised to change their course as indicated on the payment page.

Note the sum of N2,000 (Two thousand Naira) will be charged for change of course.

How To Make The Online Payment

Select your ATM card type (e.g Verve or Master Card).

Enter your Card Number.

Enter Card Expiry Date and the card CVV2 (the 3 digits on the reverse side of the card and lastly enter your card pin; and

Then click on "Pay".

Pls note: (Do not Refresh your browser while the process is going on to avoid multiple deductions from your account. If nothing is displayed after 10 minutes, close the browser and restart again).
After Login, click on Continue Registration Link on the main menu.

Fill in your other bio-data and necessary details truthfully on the webpage. All candidates should upload their Passports by clicking on Browse button and select your picture. Your Passport must not be more than 20KB.

On completion of bio-data. click on Next Step button then click OK on the message dialog box.

All DE candidates should complete the Institution of choice and click on Save then click OK on the message dialog box.

On completion of choice of Institution click Next Step button.

Note

Direct Entry candidates are required to select their Higher Academic Qualification(s) from the drop down and click on Save. On the dialog box click OK;

To add more Higher Academic Qualifications click on qualifications drop down to select your additional qualifications click on save; and

Click on "Next Step".

All candidates (UTME and DE) are required to supply their O/L details as follows:

Pick Number of sitting(s) by clicking on the drop-down button.

Enter all the required O/L details; and

Click on "Submit" button then click OK on the message dialog box.

Click Scheduling Tab. All candidates must select a screening centre from the drop-down menu. Note an alert will be immediately sent to your e-mail and phone number provided in your bio-data.

Click "Print" Tab to print out the following:

Pre-Admission Screening Registration form;

Scheduling Slip; and
Payment Receipt.

Note: All candidates are expected to come to the screening centre with the printouts.

Note

Candidates for the pre-admission screening exercise are advised to be decently dressed. Candidates with indecent dressing will not be allowed into the screening premises.

Phones and all other forms of mobile communication, electronic devices, bags and luggage are not allowed within the screening premises.

Only registered candidates for the screening exercise will be allowed into the screening premises.

NTI: 80 Percent Of Teachers In The Northern Nigeria Are Unqualified

This is to inform the General public that the DG (Director General) of NTI (National Teachers Institute), Kaduna, Aminu Sharehu, on Wednesday declared that over 80% of primary school teachers in the North were not qualified to teach.

Sharehu stated this during a seminar entitled ‘Quality Assurance and Control in Teacher Education as a Tool for Achieving Millennium Development Goals’, held at the Federal College of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.
The NTI boss, who noted that the reverse was the case in the South, however, linked the inadequacy in the North to several factors.

Aminu Sharehu, for instance, identified poor remuneration and lack of training as major handicaps to having competent teachers in the North.

He said, “Over 80% of teachers in the Northern Nigeria are not qualified because there is no motivation. You need to train and retrain teachers because National Certificate of Education is just a starting pointing.

“In the profession, we do not have learned people, but learning people because we believe that there is no end to learning.”

However, following Sharehu’s revelation, the Kaduna State Government has threatened to sack unqualified teachers in its pay roll.

The state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu, who stated this, lamented that the majority of teachers in the state did not possess the NCE minimum qualification.

Alhaji Shehu said, “As the Commissioner for Education of Kaduna State, when I came on board, I discovered that 50 per cent of the teachers, particularly the primary schools were not qualified.

“There is no way they can do the job very well. I have to give them a period of five years within which to upgrade their qualifications and become NCE holders.

“There are teachers in Kaduna that for the past 20 years have never attended one education program or the other. What do you think of such teachers?

“As a teacher, you need to attend one program or the other to enhancing your capacity, scale up your knowledge, if you do not do that; you will be behind because the world is universally changing. We have to flush out close to 1,840 teachers within the system because of fake certificates."
