Whatever its challenges, the Bush White House has presided over a period of robust health for a genre that – if history is any guide – will soon fade: the zombie movie.
Episode #16 - Sundown, you better take care...

* This is Episode #016 for November 11, 2008. Happy Veterans' Day!
(Download MP3)

// MOVIES
* The last movie we watched from our Netflix queue was "Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat" (1990), starring Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.
- Dan gives it a 6. Michelle gives it a 5.

* The next movie in our Netflix queue is "The Thirst" (2006)

// PROMOS
* CONTAGIOUS, by Scott Sigler.
- Sigler Stank II is coming to a town near you! Phoenix is one of 10 stops Scott Sigler is hitting on the Contagious Book Tour! Awesome!
* ShadowDance Podcast hosted by Chris Miller and Michelle Belanger.

// RANDOM
* We tried Absinthe for the first time, and I personally believe Vicks created NyQuil to be an Absinthe substitute. I've never liked licorice, but it is not bad after the alcohol (110 Proof) kills your taste buds. The good news is that you can find small 100mL bottles which makes two glasses easily, so that you can try it rather than committing to a 750mL.

// BOOKS
* We bought a copy of Michelle Belanger's PSYCHIC VAMPIRE CODEX which we've meant to get for a while now.

// TRUE BLOOD
* We talked about episode 10 of True Blood, "I Don't Wanna Know".
- Sam does it doggy style. Tara goes over the edge. Bill has to do the unthinkable (for him).
- There's only two episodes left. HBO sent me some spoilers if you are curious.

// TV
* When this first season of "True Blood" ends, is there another TV show you'd like us to discuss on the show?
- Vote in our poll and/or leave us voice mail.
* We also watched part of the 2007 Masterpiece Theatre version of DRACULA which recently re-aired for Halloween.
- I am enjoying the tweaks they have done to the story while keeping the essence alive. It is admittedly a bit distracting because of the differences but still gorgeous and fun.
- I am also very partial to Sophia Myles (Moonlight and Underworld) as Lucy Westenra. Just wonderful.

// FAREWELL
* We wrapped the show by playing "Burning Down The World" by The Jackalopes, just one of many awesome artists from Magnatune Records!

* Our intro music is "Stigmata" by George Hrab from his album Minutiae. Check out his podcast, his albums, and his wickedly funny book, George Hrab's Non-Coloring Book, now on sale at Lulu.com!

That wraps up this episode of the Out Of The Coffin podcast. Thanks for listening!

HBO sent me some spoilers if you are curious. // TV * When this first season of "True Blood" ends, is there another TV show you'd like us to discuss on the show? - Vote in our poll and/or leave us voice mail. * We also watched part of the 2007 Masterpiece Theatre version of DRACULA which recently re-aired for Halloween. - I am enjoying the tweaks they have done to the story while keeping the essence alive. It is admittedly a bit distracting because of the differences but still gorgeous and fun. - I am also very partial to Sophia Myles (Moonlight and Underworld) as Lucy Westenra. Just wonderful. // FAREWELL * We wrapped the show by playing "Burning Down The World" by The Jackalopes, just one of many awesome artists from Magnatune Records! This not only lets folks check on trends of terms that might involve them, an event, the election, etc., but can help companies and advertisers see what brands are trending in tweets.

Folks, we hope you enjoyed the weekly batch of podcasts this month. We'd hoped to not only have a new episode for you this week but also a bonus episode for Hallowe'en. However, Michelle was sick last week and I have been sick this week, so it did not happen.

So, please have a safe Hallowe'en, Samhain, Dia de los muertos, or whatever you may celebrate for this magickal time of year, and we'll see you again in November.

P.S. Don't forget, if you are in the Phoenix area, come out to PodCampAZ on November 1 and 2! I will definitely be out there Sunday and hopefully part of Saturday.
Episode #15 - Tales from the coffin

* This is Episode #015 for October 21, 2008.
(Download MP3)

// INTRO
* We talked about a different TWILIGHT - A Formal Gathering Of The Vampire Community
- Twilight III was held September 26-28th in Seattle, WA. A member of our Phoenix vampire meetup group attended and we are eagerly looking forward to hearing about how it was. We'd be very interested in attending one in the future.
- Sponsored by Suscitatio Enterprises, LLC, a group that is doing Vampirism & Energy Work Research Studies.

// BOOKS
* LILITH UNBOUND, an anthology edited by prolific fantasy author Elaine Cunningham.
- Chock full of excellent short stories about the dark goddess, Lilith, mother of vampires, succubi, and all things that go bump in the night.
- For the curious, I wrote a short story entitled "Agony" with the intention of submitting it for this anthology, however it was not long enough to meet the minimum requirements. Then I ran out of time to either expand it or write a new story to submit. As it stands though, it is one of my favorite glimpses of my muse, and it is likely to end up in my next book. We may read it on pod soon for you all to hear.

* VAMPIRE ZERO, by David Wellington, which is the third book in the series preceded by 13 BULLETS and 99 COFFINS.
- You can get your first taste of the story free because David released 13 BULLETS as a serialized novel on his blog in 2006 before it was picked up and published by Three Rivers Press in 2007.

* THE NEW ANNOTATED DRACULA by Bram Stoker, edited by Leslie S. Klinger, and featuring an introduction by Neil Gaiman.
- A lovely, hefty edition of the quintessential vampire novel that would make a lovely samhian gift. *nudge*

// PROMOS
* Evo @ 11, the new podcast by Evo Terra

// TRUE BLOOD
* We talked about episode 7 of True Blood, "Burning House of Love".

// MOVIES
* Our friends at Chandler Cinemas are playing host to the 2008 International Horror And Sci-Fi Film Festival, on October 23 to 26, 2008, in Chandler, AZ.

* At long last, our review of "Tales From The Crypt: Bordello of Blood" (1996), a tasty treat starring Angie Everhart, Corey Feldman, Chris Sarandon, and yes, Dennis Miller.
- Dan gives it a 9. Michelle gives it a 7.5.

* The next movie in our Netflix queue is "Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat" (1990), starring Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.

// FAREWELL

* Our intro music is "Stigmata" by George Hrab from his album Minutiae.
Episode #14 - Interview With Chris Lester

* This is Episode #014 for October 13, 2008.
(Download MP3)

// INTRO
* Happy Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving.
* We did not talk about episode 6 of True Blood, "Cold Ground". Just go watch it. 'Tis sad, but a great ending.
* We did talk about two new drink recipes: Bela Mimosa and Barnabas Collins
- This bridged us into a brief discussion of Dark Shadows, one of our favorite TV shows.

// MOVIES
* The movie we expected this week from our Netflix queue was "Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat" (1990), starring Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.
* However, instead we recieved "Tales From The Crypt: Bordello of Blood" (1996), a tasty treat starring Angie Everhart, Corey Feldman, Chris Sarandon, and yes, Dennis Miller.
- We will present our review next week. You have been spared the ranting.... for now.

// PROMOS
* PodCampAZ - November 1 & 2, 2008, at UAT in Phoenix, AZ

// INTERVIEW
* Dan had the pleasure to chat with Chris Lester, the creator of the excellent podcast fiction anthology, Metamor City, which is set in his unique world where modern technology meets myth and magic. In Metamor City, you will find many different folks, most of which are Cursed by the city, and others are creatures of legend, including vampires, psychics, demigods, and wizards.
- Besides Metamor City, you can hear Chris in other podcasts such as:
- Chasing The Bard, where he voices the sinister Mordant.
- The Pieces Podcast, which Chris has contributed stories #3 and #11 so far. Yet, Chris is in excellent company, as usual, with the other fine storytellers involved.

// PROMOS
* The Pieces Podcast

// OUTRO-BABBLE
* We are planning the next La Bal Masqué Nocturne currently on Friday, March 13th, 2009. The theme will be Superstitions.
* We also talked about ways to have trivia here on the podcast and website.

// FAREWELL
* We wrapped the show by playing the thirteeth and final track from our album which is on sale now, FOR THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE,, for only $13. Remember, part of the sales of the CD will be donated directly to the Joe Murphy Memorial Fund.
- The song is "the art of possession (no escape)" by Falling You. Thanks again, Magnatune Records!

* Our intro music is "Stigmata" by George Hrab from his album Minutiae. (Download MP3) // INTRO * Happy Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving. * We did not talk about episode 6 of True Blood, "Cold Ground". Just go watch it. 'Tis sad, but a great ending. * We did talk about two new drink recipes: Bela Mimosa and Barnabas Collins - This bridged us into a brief discussion of Dark Shadows, one of our favorite TV shows. // MOVIES * The movie we expected this week from our Netflix queue was "Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat" (1990), starring Bruce Campbell and David Carradine. * However, instead we recieved "Tales From The Crypt: Bordello of Blood" (1996), a tasty treat starring Angie Everhart, Corey Feldman, Chris Sarandon, and yes, Dennis Miller. - We will present our review next week. You have been spared the ranting.... for now. // PROMOS * PodCampAZ - November 1 & 2, 2008, at UAT in Phoenix, AZ // INTERVIEW * Dan had the pleasure to chat with Chris Lester, the creator of the excellent podcast fiction anthology, Metamor City, which is set in his unique world where modern technology meets myth and magic. In Metamor City, you will find many different folks, most of which are Cursed by the city, and others are creatures of legend, including vampires, psychics, demigods, and wizards. - Besides Metamor City, you can hear Chris in other podcasts such as: - Chasing The Bard, where he voices the sinister Mordant. - The Pieces Podcast, which Chris has contributed stories #3 and #11 so far. Yet, Chris is in excellent company, as usual, with the other fine storytellers involved. // PROMOS * The Pieces Podcast // OUTRO-BABBLE * We are planning the next La Bal Masqué Nocturne currently on Friday, March 13th, 2009. The theme will be Superstitions. * We also talked about ways to have trivia here on the podcast and website. // FAREWELL * We wrapped the show by playing the thirteeth and final track from our album which is on sale now, FOR THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE,, for only $13. Check out his podcast, his albums, and his new book, George Hrab's Non-Coloring Book, now on sale at Lulu.com! That wraps up this episode of the Out Of The Coffin podcast. Thanks for listening!

* This is Episode #013 for October 7, 2008.

// INTRO
* We talked about episode 5 of True Blood.
- It is getting very good, and warning -- major spoiler in the podcast if you haven't seen this episode!

// IN THE NEWS
* Teen Read Week Oct. 12-18, 2008 | Books with Bite at your library
- Teen Read Week is an annual initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). This year's theme is "Books with Bite". Libraries nationwide are encouraged to promote lists of YA fiction and this year they are shining the spotlight on Twilight, Cirque Du Freak, Vampire Academy, and many more vampire and other horror YA bestsellers.
* Read about this and other stories at http://www.outofthecoffin.com/news
* Send us news stories at http://del.icio.us/OutOfTheCoffin.

// PROMOS
* PodCampAZ - November 1 & 2, 2008, at UAT in Phoenix, AZ

// MOVIES
* The movie we watched from our Netflix queue is "Ultraviolet" (2006), starring Milla Jovovich.
- Dan gives it 3.5 out of 10. Michelle gives it an 0.75. This is barely a vampire movie. It's just another sexy, pretty CGI/green-screen eye-candy waste of box office.
- Don't buy this one. Don't even rent it unless you like pointless action movies starring sexy catsuit wearing heroines. Go watch Fifth Element instead.

* The movie we have next in the queue is "Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat" (1990), starring Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.

// RANDOM OUTRO SHENANIGANS
* Why hasn't Angelina Jolie played a vampire yet?!? Inconceivable!
* We are asking for your nominations for Ms. Out Of The Coffin 2008 -- i.e. the hottest of the vampire hotties. Or as Michelle called them, the vampiresses with the best rack.
- Michelle nominated Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. I nominated Lilith as played by Angie Everhart in Bordello of Blood.
- Who would you nominate? Who will you vote for in '08?

// FAREWELL
Remember, part of the sales of the CD will be donated directly to the Joe Murphy Memorial Fund.
- The song is "Beauty Earth" by Curl. Thanks again, Magnatune Records!

* Our intro music is "Stigmata" by George Hrab from his album Minutiae.
