The album Schütz Exequien (RIC 311) in the Ricercar collection makes us proud by winning the 2012 ICMA in the Baroque Vocal Category, what a great reward! We have also just learned that two of our albums, the Complete Works of Johannes Ciconia by the Diabolus in Musica Ensemble and La Morra (RIC 316) and the Goldberg variations of Bach interpreted by Blandine Rannou (ZZT 111001) were both awarded with the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" (The German Record Critics' Award) ... what a success!

For thirty years now, the vocal ensemble Organum has slowly but surely, far from the eye of the public at large, pieced together a veritable history of the singing of sacred music. With this new disc, Organum adds yet another layer to the knowledge of the interpretation and sound of early music, bringing together the body of research carried out for three decades by Marcel Pérès, in the continuity of his discoveries on liturgical chant of late Antiquity, Romanesque polyphonies, the rationalisation of measured rhythm, and the art of ornamentation in the Gothic era. This disc is the culmination of the objectives defined by Marcel Pérès twelve years ago: “The study of medieval and ancient repertoires cannot be confined to the simple reconstitution of written or aural material. Through a musical approach that reveals other horizons, it calls for a differing way of relating to memory and its construction. The practise of this music profoundly transforms one’s relationship to patrimony. What was at first of a solely archaeological or aesthetic nature, becomes an in-depth rethinking of one’s musical behaviour and its function within the larger social fabric.”

Critic in 'Le Monde', by Pierre Gervasoni: AECD1224 Rapha�l Cendo : Furia

Raphaël Cendo (born 1975), the brains behind an aesthetic movement extolling saturation, could pass for the punk of contemporary music with his explosive, anti-establishment scores. But his seemingly nihilistic works cannot be approached from the 'No Future' angle; rather, they prove that there is indeed life after the death of aggressed sounds, with or without electronics. A virtuoso of the extremist gesture, Cendo tends to (literally) give up the ghost of an event that is first perceived as noise. Décombres then reveals a sort of pneumatic-drill lyricism, and Tract (with the faithfulness of the Cairn ensemble, conducted by Guillaume Bourgogne) militates in favour of a new form of urban resistance. As for In vivo, a masterpiece of the demolishing of values, it pummels the matter of the string quartet with the scalpel of an emergency physician. New release of the label �on

AECD1112 Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou : Propos, the last release of the label æon in 2011 is available since few days. The aim of this monographic recording is to provide a few milestones amongst the works for different instrumental ensembles composed by Jaffrennou between 1997 and 2006. Three of these pieces combine electronics with the instrumental masses, the latter being quite variable, ranging from a trio in For Three to large forces (two ensembles of 15 musicians each) in Chronorythmie.

Showcase concert of Jan Michiels�s CD � Le Tombeau de Debussy �

After meeting Maurice Maeterlinck in Ghent in 1893, Claude Debussy became very popular in Belgium and often played there. The year 2012 marks the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of his birth. To celebrate this occasion, pianist Jan Michiels recorded "Le Tombeau de Debussy" (FUG 590), a new album which will be released in January and be preceded by a showcase in the Mercedes House in Brussels, on December 15th at 19:30. Amandine Beyer and Caf� Zimmermann share 3 �Diapason d�Or de l�Ann�e 2011� !

Last night, Café Zimmermann was awarded a “Diapason d’Or of the Year” for volumes V and VI of their "Concerts for several instruments" by Johann Sebastian Bach (ALPHA 168 & ALPHA 181). Their compatriot Amandine Beyer also saw her efforts rewarded for her outstanding recording of the "Sonatas and Partitas BWV 1001-1006" by the same composer (ZZT 110902). We only have one thing to say to them: BRAVO!!

Olivier Cav� in concert in Brussels

The Swiss pianist Oliver Cavé has made two recordings for æon: one devoted to the music of Domenico Scarlatti (AECD 0874), the other to the music of Muzio Clementi (AECD 1094). Cavé, who is currently preparing a tour and a recording devoted to the works of Mozart, will give a concert entitled "Alla maniera italiana" at the Mercedes House in Brussels next Thursday, November 17th at 19:30 (Bodenbroekstraat 24-26, 1000 Brussels, Belgium). Diapason rewards three recent releases!

The sixth and final recording of "Concertos with several instruments" by Cafe Zimmerman (ALPHA 181), a superb series dedicated to Bach that has only just come out in box format (ALPHA 811), the "Sonatas and Partitas BWV 1001 – 1006" of Amandine Beyer (ZZT 110902), and the album "Opera Omnia" of Johannes Ciconia delivered by La Morra for the secular music, and Diabolus In Musica for the sacred works and motets for particular occasions (RIC 316), have each received a "Diapason d’Or" in the October issue of the famous French magazine. In the Studio : Diabolus in Musica

The Ensemble Diabolus in Musica is recording this week a project "Plorer, gémir, Crier..." to be published in 2012 to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The recording is a great tribute to Johannes Ockeghem (+ 1497), containing compositions of the brilliant generation of musicians assuring the transition between Middle Ages and the Renaissance. http://www.diabolusinmusica.fr/

In the program the masterpieces “Knoxville, in the Summer of 1915” of Samuel Barber, “Les nuits d’été” of Hector Berlioz and “Les Illuminations” of Benjamin Britten. A must.

UGAB - Third volume

Arditti Quartet is going to record in April and in July in Baden-Baden, Germany the complete string quartets of the British composer Brian Ferneyhough. This new considerable adventure will already be the fifth project between the label æon and Arditti Quartet. After the successful releases of Jonathan Harvey’s and Pascal Dusapin’s string quartets in 2009, æon is publishing in 2012 two new Arditti Quartet CD’s including music by Harrison Birtwistle and Roberto Gerhard.

Henri Vieuxtemps, the greatest master of the violin in the middle of the 19th century, is more that a curiosity as a composer: this is pretty clear to "Der Spiegel"'s music reviewer ! Congratulations to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, to Augustin Dumay and his pupils Vineta Sareika, Hrachya Avanesian, Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Lorenzo Gatto, Iossiv Ivanov, Jolente De Maeyer and Harriet Langley, who have revived the seven concertos of the genial violinist!

Trio Dali just recorded a Schubert 2 CD's set in the magnificent Studio 4 of Flagey, Brussels. This new Fuga Libera CD, published with the support of the Queen Elisabeth Chapel and Flagey will be released next spring. A new accomplishment for this magic young piano trio whose first Ravel CD won prestigious awards (FUG 547 - Choc of the year 2009 in Classica, Diapason d'Or...). The sound quality of this recording matches the standards set by their previous CD: an astonishing experience for the ears!

Philippe Herreweghe and Outhere give birth to the label � φ � (phi).

Philippe Herreweghe will assume the artistic direction of this catalogue which will hold exclusive rights for his recordings with Collegium Vocale Gent and l’Orchestre des Champs-Elysées. It will be produced, edited and distributed by Outhere. By creating this collection, Philippe Herreweghe wishes to freely materialise the fruit of a long career of musical research and experiences. Outhere enthusiastically supports him in this endeavour. At a rhythm of 4 to 5 productions a year as from 2011, the catalogue will comprise productions devoted to the main symphonic and choral repertoire, polyphony and of course to the works of JS Bach that Philippe Herreweghe wants to revisit to produce ever more accomplished versions. The first release, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, is scheduled for fall 2010. It will be followed, in spring 2011, by Bach’s motets and, subsequently, by works by Josquin Desprez, Brahms and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis.
