Our Last Meeting was a big success. About 170 people turned out on a drizzly night to hear our media panel. Thanks to John Archibald, Charles Dean, Mark Kelly & Bill Payer, veteran journalists all, for comprising our panel. Truths were told, and observations made. Some were painful, all were instructive. If you attended, thanks. And you know we all agreed we have a lot or work to accomplish to be effective change-makers in our state!

The Officers and Board of OTMDems are working on a number of projects to make our organization stronger and more effective as we enter the 2012 election season. As ADP Chair Judge Mark Kennedy pointed out in a recent meeting with us, our group not only serves an important role in our communities here by organizing local Democrats and getting them involved, but also by serving as a role model for other Democratic groups in Alabama. So, whether it's improving our internal operations like membership management and a new and improved website, or organizing our public activities like our issues-oriented programs or candidate forums or voter calling parties, we are regularly reviewing and working on lots of interesting projects.

START THE NEW YEAR WITH THE OTMDEMS: ALABAMA DEMS START ON A NEW DIRECTION

Is there hope for the Alabama Democratic Party? Hear the experts talk about what happened and what could happen featuring Judge Mark Kennedy slated to be chair of the Alabama Democratic Party, chair of the Jefferson Country Democratic Party, Alabama head of Organizing for America and Representative Merika Coleman.

Its a new year and time to start creating a new direction for Democrats in Alabama. Since the November election, there has been a lot of hand wringing and questions….where did it all go wrong??? Could we have done anything differently??? Who is to blame??? Most importantly, how do we go forward from here to revitalize, reshape and most importantly, re-connect with the voters???

This month, the OTMDems will start asking those questions of those who may hold the answers. Mark you calendars for January 18, 2011 at 6:30PM at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens as we start to ask the hard questions and look to Democratic leaders….and to you our members for answers and pathways to progressive leadership and thought in Alabama government.
