A friend sent me this, and I thought I would share it with you:

THE BUZZARD

If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is
that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

THE BAT

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

THE BUMBLEBEE:

A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom.. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

PEOPLE:

In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up! That's the answer, the escape route and the solution to any problem! Just look up. Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!

So based on that, I say to make it through school, simply look up! We should live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us. If your goal is to get through school, do what I do and put it in God's hands.

Other Ways to get FREE COLLEGE CREDITS

As usual, I have been on a mission trying to find out how to get free college credits. In my daily research into the matter, I had a "light-bulb" moment! I want to share it with you to see what you think.

What would happen if you chose a college that permits credit for experience, and then attended free online courses, etc... and then either took a challenge exam or otherwise qualified your knowledge with your college? Might this result in either no-cost or low-cost college credits?

1. My idea is that in  order for this to work, you need to be enrolled in a college that gives  credit for some form of life experience or allows challenge exams. Also, ask your current college if  they allow portfolio credit, independent study, or credit by exam. If you aren't enrolled in college, then at least enroll in a credit bank like Thomas Edison, Excellsior, etc.

2. Select a free online class. (Be sure to talk to an  academic adviser at your college to get help choosing a free online  class.) This is important because the counselor can help you select a class that fulfills your  credit needs and help you understand what will be required to earn  formal credit. 

3.  Be sure to follow the program guidelines to challenge exams, create a portfolio, etc. Earning credit by taking a free online class might very well require you  to submit portfolio work to your college, study alongside an  instructor, or take a standardized exam to prove your learning. As you  complete the free online class, stay on top of the requirements set by  your college.Keep all of your notes. (I found this very helpful for review) 

4. Establish the credits at your regular college through one of the methods referenced above. Once the free online class and additional college requirements are complete, you should be awarded a grade. After that, I suggest getting a non-official update of your transcript.

Free Software for college students

As everyone is painfully aware, software is very expensive. Most college students are going to need Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and a program to share and manage photos. Today I learned that free alternatives to these programs are available at: http://www.40freecollegecredits.com/

I just finished the downloads and installation. Everything seems to work great and no spyware detected.

Anyone else finding free software (legal only!) please advise the group.

13 year old kid earned the 40 college credits for free

IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, YOU HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING ON A SHOESTRING TO SURVIVE (That includes getting your college degree!)
I was reading more about the author of the book I was mentioning in the first post and I came across an update which said that the author's 13 year old son had completed the program and had earned over 70 certificates and 40 college credits! His kid hasn't even graduated high school yet, and he is 1/3 the way thru his bachelor's degree.

Like alot of you out there, I went to work right after high school and skipped college. With the change in the economy, I realized that I needed a college degree, and I needed it faster than 4 years.

After sitting through more than 6 months of night classes at my local community college, I had only earned 15 credits. I could see it was going to take the full 4 years to earn my baccalaureate degree.

I started looking into ways to earn college credits quicker. Of course I came across all of the diploma mill crap. Not only is this approach illegal, it is worthless. Google it and look at all the people who have lost their jobs when thier employer found out they lied about having a valid degree.

Anyway, I did get some good info on expediting the process through utilizing challenge exams like: CLEP, DANTES, EXCELSIOR, etc. I tried 5 at about $90 each (Testing Fee + Exam Fee) I passed 2 and failed 3. I did pick up 6 quick credits, but I wasted my money on the other 3 exams. To retake the ones I messed up on, I will have to wait 6 months and pay to retake them. I am on a tight budget and can't afford to waste money.

So I started searching for ways to get free college credits. A friend referred me to a resource book that talked about a guy that earned 40 college credits through a government sponsored program, which was FREE. The program it described included absolutely all books, videos, lecture presentations, practice tests, final exams, certification and final transcripts!

I got the book online and it sounded to good to be true. The author, Maurecio Carpeli says that it was possible to earn 40 college creidts in less than a week, and to do it absolutely FREE?

The author claims his book was written to prove it could be done by including proof in the form of his scanned course completion certificates and transcripts, which are date stamped.
I figured there had to be a catch somewhere. So, like the author, I took it upon myself to act as a human guinea pig and prove that it is possible. Here is what I found out:

1.) The program works and I got the 40 college credits for free, but it took me 4 months! (Not 1 week)

2.) The author states that he taught himself to read at 4 years old and says he is a rapid content reader. I am sure that if you are some sort of genius, then maybe you could do it in a week!

If anyone else comes across anything else I can do to earn legit college credits quickly, please let me know. I now have about 74 credits and need 120 to graduate.
