Chemo/Radiation #17

Hey friends! I just wrapped session #17 yesterday of my chemo/radiation treatments. We’ve been in Houston for almost a month. Here’s a little video update followed by some photos I wanted to share in no particular order:

Our first visit to Hermann park together! (This was before Jillian and the rest of the fam arrived.)

We got to go visit the beach in Galveston…

We met one of our faves, Tobe Nwigwe, at Cactus Music (record store here), where he was signing his new record, The Bridge.

The LP he signed for us

Cash and I got to go see Bit Brigade at Wonky Power in Houston. They performed Castlevania, Mega Man II and did a Tetris 1v1 with an audience member.

We were kind of basic and hit up Voo Doo Donuts, which is not native to Houston, but the kids had never been and enjoyed a doughnut the size of their craniums.

We went to Post Commons and came across The International Lion Dancing competition randomly. It was amazing!

At MD Anderson they had this segment called Music-In-Medicine where they wore brain mapping helmets and performed pieces. You could see the brain activity in real time. Absolutely spectacular. The professor, Dr. Mei Rui, also played the piano after explaining what was going on. Absolutely incredible.

We’ve experienced the Texas famous H-E-B a few times. Their sushi is pretty good. The establishment is revered here. It is good, but maybe a little overhyped if I’m being honest. The parking lot is WORSE than Trader Joe’s. And it gives more of a Schnuck’s vibe.

We also wouldn’t be doing Texas justice without swinging by Buc-ee’s. I was most blown away by the amount of ice chests out front…

One of the Doctor Assistants gave me this wristband. It was very kind.

I’m going to try and do another post before we leave. If you have any questions or things you’d like me to document, let me know and I’ll do my best!

Thank you for loving us, friends!

Owen

We’re here. We’re in Houston.

I start Radiation in the morning. I have 28 treatments scheduled over the next 6 weeks.

I’m scared. I’m nervous.

*note to self: don’t read reddit posts about people’s experience going through radiation.

Thank you to everyone who has been with me so far. Chief among them is my wife.

I love you.

We’re in Houston for Scans
