Top Ten Authors You'd Like to Have at Your Turkey Day

Dinner Table

1. JRR Tolkien. This man opened up my world to the creation of fantastical lands and adorable Hobbits. I can think of no other author I'd dearly love to meet and share a bite with than Mr. Tolkien.

2. Gail Carriger (okay we're two for two on two proper English authors who don't celebrate this holiday, swell) oh and one is dead, lol) I heart the Soulless Books so very much. I would be honored to have a meal with such a witty and clever lady, and you got it, Gail would insist we all dress in our finest attire and it would certainly be flavored after the well-mannered Victorians with a steamy twist.

3. Brandon Sanderson. I am in awe of how fast this authors writes books, not only is he quick, but each story still captures my full attention and I can't help but want to be in each book. He would be a kick ass dinner guest.
4. Libba Bray. She seems like an absolute hoot. I think we would get along quite well.
5. Kristin Cashore. Kristin is a beautiful writer and her two books are favorites of mine. I can't wait for Bitterblue next year.
6. Sarah Allen Addison. This author writes the most whimsical and charming stories, and I bet she would bring a kick-ass dessert since she writes about food in all her books.
7. Jane Austen (yea I had to go there) Ms. Austen is my hero. Simple.
8. Richelle Mead. and maybe she could bring Adrian, lol
9. Kim Harrison. The Hollows is one epic series that has me laughing and growing with her fabulous characters.
10. Patrick Rothfuss. I can't get enough of my high adventure fantasy authors.

This could potentially be a very, very, long list., but for the sake of this FF, I shall keep it a minimum, :)

I really would like the complete collection of the Penguin and Puffin classic books.

How adorable are these babies? I also want the collection from Penguin.

I'm pretty sure this box set is new because I've never seen it until today and it beautiful.

As for non book related items I would love DKNY Perfume PURE.

Top Ten Tuesday Week 7 :)

I'm participating again in Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Basically every Tuesday the peeps over at The Broke and the Bookish post their top ten lists on various topics. They even have a special Top Ten Tuesday page where they have previous topics and upcoming topics discussed as well.

This weeks topic is: Top Ten Books That Have Been on My Shelf the Longest!

I am unfortunately at work, so I can't recall the books in which have occupied my shelves the longest, but will do my best.

1. The first few books in the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Once I heard Sanderson was taking over the series I just knew I'd want to read his finishing touches on the series, but I just haven't made the time to start this epic series. Not yet at least.

2. Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella. I absolutely adored the Shopaholic books, but I tried to read this one when it released back in 2009, alas it still sits on my shelf.

3. Bloodring and Seraphs by Faith Hunter. I bought these ages ago. I don't think I'll ever read these.

4. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. I borrowed this from a friend and I really do want to read it, but I know its supposed to be so sad. :( Some day

5. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I don't know if I'll ever read this, lol. infact I have books 1-4, but IDK, I've heard such mixed reviews I can't make up my mind.

6. The Heir Chronicles by Cinda Chima Williams. I LOVE her Seven Realms Series, I just haven't read this one yet. Has anyone read these? Am I missing out?

7. Glimmerglass by Jenna Black. I loved this cover and it was on sale so I went for it. I feel like the Iron Fey takes the cake on faerie books.

8.The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine, I think I have books 1-9, I read her weather warden books. I should really make sometime for these.

9. Atonement by Ian McWan. I actaully tried reading this, long time ago, but couldn't get into it , I'd like to try again.

10. Stones from the River by Ursual Hegi. My mom gave this books to me years ago and I failed at reading it. This book has seriously grand reviews, not sure why I didn't read it.

I have plenty more of books that have been neglected. Maybe on the next read-a-thon I will only read books that have been on my shelf longer two months.

Hunger Games Official Trailer Released

Big day today! Lionsgate released the full trailer of the up and coming EPIC movie, Hunger Games. I've already watched this a few times and each time I find myself filled with awe and covered in goosebumps.

Of course we can't really say if it is going to be any good, but from this trailer I think they did a remarkable job of casting. March of 2012 is going to be EPIC.

Hi Alex. I am so excited to be sitting down with you today.

Thanks! I’m kind of nervous, actually – I’ve never been interviewed before!

Let’s just dive into shall we? What is your most favorite aspect about virtual reality, and do you think that maybe in the not so distant future our world will be dominated with simulated living, ie school, dating, travel?

Well, what I really love about virtual reality is the way it doesn’t have to be anything

like real life. I mean, you can make your environment exactly the way you want

it. You could be living somewhere cold and overcrowded and still have your own

private beach to hang out at. Your parents could have allergies, but you could still

have as many pets as you liked – heck, you could even keep dragons if you wanted

to!

I do think virtual living’s going to get bigger and bigger, not just because it’s fun, but

also because it’s such a great way to be connected to people all around the world.

In the end, nothing beats talking to someone face to face. Systems like Virk make

that possible no matter where you are. I hadn’t really thought about school-based

virtual environments until you mentioned it, though. I think it’s a brilliant idea – there’s

definitely stuff about school that would be better if it was virtual. Not having to smell

the boys’ toilets as you walk by them, for one thing.

Lol. I completely agree there are certain things about school I wouldn’t have minded missing, such as the bathrooms.

If you could go back in time to a specific period which would it be and why?

You know, I don’t think I’d want to go back too far – life was just too primitive in the

past! I wouldn’t mind going back to the 80s, though, when gaming was really starting

to take off. I mean, don’t you think it would be cool to work with those guys who

developed all the old-school handheld games – Donkey Kong and stuff? Of course,

I wouldn’t go back to the 80s if it meant I had to wear electric-blue eyeshadow and

shoulder pads. I don’t need Budi to tell me how very tragic that trend was.

Haha. Yes, shoulders pads. Simply ridiculous, but I can get down with some fun eye shadow.

What do you like about the three main guys in your life: Nix, Dale and Joel? And what don’t

you like about them?

Oh, man – where do I start? Well, I guess you’ve got to admire the way Nix is so

straight down the line. He always stands up for what he believes in, and he never

lies about anything. The problem is, that’s also his most annoying feature – it

wouldn’t hurt him to use a little tact once in a while! What I like about Dale is … well,

he’s very, uh … you know … Okay, I’ll admit it: he’s really easy on the eye! I’m not

so pleased that he’s such a good contender for Simulcorp’s intern position, though.

He may be hot, but I really want that job! As for Joel, he’s a great friend; he’s loyal,

kind and always ready to lend you his bodyboard. He’s no good if you’re looking for

intellectual conversation, of course, but that’s what we have Kiyoko for!

If the movie rights to your story were sold who would your dream cast be?

Let’s see … I think Ellen Wong from Scott Pilgrim Vs The World would do a great job

as Ki, with Dakota Fanning as Sky, Nicholas Hoult as Nix, Jamie Campbell Bower

as Joel and Zac Efron as Dale. I’d cast Diane Kruger as Inge, Hugh Jackman as Mr

Grody and Dev Patel as the CEO. I’ve got to admit, I don’t know many Indonesian

actors, but Indonesian TV star Baim Wong sure does look a lot like Budi! As for who

I’d like to play me … that’s a hard one. I kind of want to say Zooey Deschanel. She’s

much older, taller and prettier than me, but hey – you did say ‘dream cast’!

Swoon. Hugh Jackman has my vote. Zooey is absolutely adorable; I think she could play you very well. Alright, one more question, and let’s just be cheeky, if you were a super hero what would you want your powers to be?

Hm. Well, some of the things that have happened in my Virk room while I’ve been

on work experience have been a bit scary, so super-hearing would be helpful – that

way no one would be able to sneak up on me in realspace. And super-strength, so I

could defend myself if anyone attacked me. And super-vision might be good – then

I’d know if anyone was stalking me, and I’d be able to see what people were up to

a really long way off, like at the other end of the beach … Oh. On second thoughts,

maybe no super-vision. I’m not sure I want to see what’s going on at the other end of

Flinders Beach.

Flinders Beach. Good call; steer clear of those naked bodies. J

I was so thrilled when I came across this book with a cover AND a release date. Kristen Cashore captured such magic and adventure in Graceling and Fire. I know Bitterblue will not disappoint. I love this cover too!

This series has out done it's self. Ms. Hawkins is a true creator of magic. It's true what they say about not being able to put her books down.  I had zero complaints about this series, only that I have to wait for the third installment.

I was mesmerized by Starcrossed. The drama was beyond anything I've ever read before...and I loved it. I am nervous about this love triangle though. Hurry up May 2012.

I absolutely loved Tiger’s Curse and Tiger’s Quest, but Tiger’s Voyage really had me on the fence of my emotions. This love triangle between Kelsey and her two dashing tigers is starting to wear thin on my patience. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the most recent adventure (dragons, awesome), but something needs to give. Both Ren and Kishan are fine matches for our leading lady… pick one already. After reading this I have made my prediction on who she will spend her happily ever after with. In Tiger’s Voyage, we journey with the Tiger Crew on the next installment of breaking the Tiger’s Curse. The folklore presented in this book is beautifully retold. I think this was part of the reason I enjoyed this book so much, especially considering your heart is breaking with this love triangle and I needed something else to focus on.

I am eagerly awaiting the last two books in this series and hope Kelsey gets this torture over with and chooses Ren so Kishan can move on and find another lady to love.

I give this 4 stars merely because this love triangle is getting ridiculous. Other than that, another epic adventure from Ms. Colleen Houck.

Dangerously Placed is fast paced and thrilling adventure in the world of virtual reality. Meet Alex, a virtual reality savvy chick who is determined and motivated to do well at her new internship at a prestigious Simulcorp.

Dangerously Placed features a young girl who ends up being the prime suspect in the murder of her boss. Of course, Alex, will not take this sitting down. She and her friends are determined to unravel the mysteries of Simulcorp and discover who is behind the murder. This book has solid writing and a cast of fabulously unique characters. I definitely was left guessing at some of the plot twist and turns. If you enjoy thrillers, engaging characters and swoon worthy boys, you will not be disappointed in Dangerously Placed.

I am currently reading The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. I am only two chapters into said book but am thus far enjoying the story. And of course the cover is gorgeous.

The last book I read (and it was fantastic) was The Gray Wolf Throne by CInda Williams Chima. Oh man, this series is only getting better by the book. Review to come soon.

I am hoping to read either, Dearly Departed by Lia Habel or The Body Finder by Kimberley Derting (thank you, April, Fall Santa)

This weeks top ten is...

Ten Books Perfect for Reading Around Halloween!

1. The Name of the Star: Maureen Johnson. I just started this actually. It's set in present day London and someone is copycating (spelling?)Jack the Ripper. It's suspenseful and creepy.

2. Dearly Departed: Lia Habel. I haven't read this yet but it sounds like stellar read and very appropriate for Halloween, Zombies, nuff said and I am such a sucker for anything steampunk or victorian era.

3. Dead of Night: Jonathon Mayberry. I received this book for review few weeks and haven't gotten around to it yet, but I've heard such zombie-tastic things about his books, what better way to spend Halloween week reading this?

4. Dracula: Bram Stoker. I watched this movie last weekend (1992 version with Gary Oldman and Wionna Ryder) It was so ridiculous and I feel like picking up the book. I mean this is the original vampire story.

5. Dead Witch Walking: Kim Harrison. I loved, LOVED this series and it has all the halloweeny type characters we all love. Witches, Vamps, Fairies and let's not forget demons.

6. Interview with a Vampire: Anne Rice. You can't have a halloween reading list without an Anne Rice novel. She writes the epitome of gothic and horrific vampires tales.

7. Harry Potter Series: JK Rowling. Wizards, spells and an enchanted forest? Hogwarts has it all for a splendid Halloween reading session.

8. The Gemma Doyle Trilogy: Libba Bray. This is one of my all time favorite gothic and victorian stories. I could definitely re-read this series, especially near Halloween.

9. The Crucible: Arthur Miller. I remember reading and watching this in high school. I love some good ol' witch trials.

10. The Body Finder: Kimberly Derting. I just recieved this from my Fall Santa. (I need to do my thank you post soon) and this sounds creepy and perfect for Halloween.

Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read

But Me...

1. Wither by Lauren DeStefano: I own it and I've been meaning to read it, for what seems like forever now, but, alas, it just hasn't made it to the tippy top of my pile yet.

2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness: I own this too, in eBook and physical. Now, mind you, I just bought it in hardback so I'm sure I will read it soon. There are certain books I prefer reading the physical copy and not an ebook of. This is one of those.

3. Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter: I read Heist Society about a month ago and am looking forward to the sequel. I don't own this yet.

4. The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting: I don't own any of her books but they always seem to pop up and I'm starting to really want to what all the fuss is about. I love the covers too.

5. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong: I own book 1 & 2 but haven't ever been in the right mood. I read Bitten from her Woman of the Otherworld series and really liked it but wasn't able to get into Stolen so I kind a gave up on KA, but I do really want to eventually read her Darkest Powers series...

6. Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning: I own books 1-4 (i think) and I technically read the first book, but I wasn't over impressed. I started and skimmed book 2. Meh, maybe I just wan't in the right mind set? Everyone I know who has read them adores each book. Sigh. Maybe I'll give the series another shot?

7. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr: Yes, I read book one and skimmed book two but I don't get it... at all. These books were so boring and the hype behind them is bogus, lol. I guess I am just biased because I love The Iron Fey series soo much.

8. The Help by Katheryn Stockett: I watched the movie and enjoyed it. Don't have much desire to read it.

9. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: I can't believe I've never read this book. I mean really? I am going to read it before this year is over. Done and done.

10. Inferno by Dante: I really feel like everyone of my friends has read this and I'm clueless. lol. Oh well. I'm not sure if I will ever read this one.

I'm glad I read Anna and the French Kiss on Sunday :)

I absolutely adored the first two books. I am so glad this is only a trilogy. I can't wait any longer to find out the ending!

First book I am loving:

This cover is simply beautiful. The stormy background to the crackled edges, it creates a semi-haunted feeling. How did she propel herself out of the water like that? I love books with the character is a gorgeous dress, especially if there is water in the picture. I don't think the cover really gives away anything. Looking at it you wouldn't this story is going to be about fairies and mythical powers. I simply cannot wait for January 5th 2012 for this release!

Like many of you, this list is a long one, but the few titles that are bursting in my mind are:

Tiger's Destiny by Colleen Houck; Book 5 in the Tiger's Curse Series. There isn't even a picture available for this cover but I just finished Tiger's Voyage and oh man! Colleen sure knows how to play on my heart strings. I need to know how this love triangle is going to play out.... This series is Indiana Jones for girls with a charming romance. READ IT, if you haven't already :)

Dreamless by Josephine Angellini; Book 2 in her Starcrossed Series. I was simply swept up in this Starcrossed and can't even imagine the drama and action to come in Dreamless. Again, I picked a book that doesn't have a cover released yet.

Like many of you, I was worried that the Richelle Mead’s spin off series, Bloodlines wasn’t going to be able to capture my heart and soul like her mesmerizing series, Vampire Academy. If for some unfortunate reason you are unfamiliar with her Vampire Academy series or have not yet read it, SHAME ON YOU. J And you must not get out much because this author is everywhere.

First off I have to say how much I enjoyed reading this story from the POV of Sydney. She is a fire cracker but instead of rushing into things without fully thinking it through (like another strong female we know), Sydney plots and bides her time until all her ducks are in a row and the she kicks some major ass.

We start off with a mission, a very top secret and undercover job that is offered to Sydney against the wishes of her father (jack ass) and her superior on the case. Sydney has been assigned the hush, hush case of rooming and protecting the Dragomir Princess, Jill aka Jailbait. The setting is the most unlikely location for a vampire… Palm Springs, CA. Here the girls and Eddie enroll in a normal prep. School… or is it? Soon everyone find themselves caught up some big bad and it’s up to Sydney to sort it all out and save her friends.

Bloodlines, is a fast paced (but not rushed) story of unlikely friendships and of ourse some major butt kicking. When I finished it I thought, “ok, that was good”, next morning I found myself still pondering the book and decided that it was truly awesome. Richelle Mead whips up such a tale of romance, adventure and friendship. I give this book 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA and adventure romance.

I was thrilled when I heard there was going to be a fourth book in the Iron Fey Series. I was even more thrilled when it was disclosed the final book would show case the POV from the ever swoon-worthy ex-Prince of the Winter Court, Ash.

In Julie Kagawa’s fourth and final installment of the Iron Fey series we embark on a treacherous journey to the edges of the Neverever, to the banks and wilds of The River of Dreams and the end of it all at the very edge of the world, where the Testing Grounds lay.

This story isn’t just a physical test of strength and endurance. This is the ultimate test of character, trust and pain. Iron Queen ended with Meghan becoming the Queen of the Iron Realm where are handsome Ash is unable to venture. Ash is determined to see his vow to always be there for Meghan to the limit, he is going to get a soul or die trying. Along with the ever determined and zesty Puck, Ash and he set out to find Grimalkin and along the way they pick up two very unsuspecting characters from Ash’s past that most definitely put things on edge for everyone involved in this adventure.

This journey really opens up Ash is a harsh and brutal manner. We delve into his past transgressions and his past love. If you thought you saw a different side of Ash is Iron Queen, be prepared. The story of Ash is one of love, heart-ache and some incredibly tough choices.

For those Team Puck fans out there, he really plays a pivotal role in this journey. Not only is he the comic relief, we really get to see the more serious side of Puck. We witness some very tender and crucial moments between Ash and Puck. I wish Puck would get his own story to find true love. I think Julie did an awesome job of opening and expanding on these two charming and dynamic characters.

We can’t forget Grimalkin. He of course pops in and out like magic either when things start to get dangerous or when someone needs to learn a lesson, lol. Julie also introduces two other companions into this mix. I can’t really go into really into any detail because it would ruin the surprises, but these two characters add much to the story.

The Iron Knight was a truly inspired and daring story of love and forgiveness. Julie really out did herself with the final book. I am sad that it is over but all I can say is, I do love happily ever afters and Julie didn’t disappoint.

Thank you Harlequin and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book early. Now I can’t wait for its release date because I have to own it otherwise my series will be lacking my favorite story of the bunch.

Oh man. This question is really going to make me think and it's late here and I should already be in bed...

I loved, LOVED the ending of Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa BUT I wish that didn't end the series there, see I am a big fan of the happily ever after and yes, Ash and Meghan are now together (listen to me, like they are real, aren't they, lol) I really must be tired. Back to what I am saying, PUCK. He didn't get his Happily Ever After ... did he? I know he had a spotlight in Summer's Crossing but where is his true love? I'd like to seen him settle down but maybe he isn't meant to ... IDK. I think I am rambling now. I may have a better answer come tomorrow morning but for now, sleepy time.
