Some workshops cancelled

Regrettably, we’ve had to cancel three workshops due to insufficient numbers. The workshops cancelled are the two on WCAG 2.0 forms and Eyetracking for Usability.

Conference Dinner

Acidlabs have kindly organised a conference dinner. Invitations were sent to all registrants, RSVPs have been collated, and no more spaces are available.

Just a quick note to mention that the program schedule is now online.

The conference day starts at 8:00am and continues through to 5:30pm. The packed schedule may seem daunting, but we’ve got a couple of suprises lined up to relieve the stress. Lunch is catered onsite, as are morning and afternoon tea breaks.

Student rates for conference/workshops!

From even the first Oz-IA Conference we’ve known that our industry needs more talented people doing the things we do.

This year we’re officially offering student rates for the conference - if you’re a full time student then you can attend for the very affordable rate of $198. This barely covers our per-head costs and nothing more, but you get to enjoy the full experience nonetheless!

Additionally, we’d like to offer a special rate of just $77 for full time students for the workshops. Since workshop places are limited however we can only make this offer on a stand-by basis .. but not to worry most of the workshops have plenty of spaces left at this time.

If you are a full-time student just register as normal using discount code ‘student’.

Early Bird extension!

The cut off date for Early Bird Registrations has been exteneded until Tuesday 9th. Early bird registration is $660 or $550 with a discount code - you can register now to secure the Early Bird rate and then pay later if this suits you.

Are you a member of AWIA, WIPA, IAI, ALIA, RMAA, ALLA, or certain other industry bodies? If so, discunted registration is available to you.

Workshop places are also filling up, so register as soon as you can. Conference attendees are entitled to a discounted rate for the workshops, and you don’t have to register for workshops at the same time as you do for the conference.

Preliminary Conference Program

The call for short and advanced conference sessions has closed and was very successful. We had more than 70 very interesting proposals on many great topics, and whittling the list down to just 22 sessions on the program was not an enviable task.

IA in agencies survey

Patrick Kennedy is doing an online survey to get some answers straight from the people who work in agencies (or who used to). He's interested in learning how people go about practicing IA, in particular how agencies “do IA”. This is to both confirm and challenge his own understanding of the way agencies work and how IA fits into their processes, who it gets done by and how it might be possible to give agencies the skills they need to perform better in this regard.

The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and he’ll give away to one lucky person who completes the survey a copy of the acclaimed best-selling book by Steve Krug Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, 2nd Edition.

News from the IA Institute: the 2008 IA Institute Salary and Benefits Survey is now open. The survey takes only a minute or two to complete, so we hope you'll stop by and contribute. As in previous years, the survey will remain open until October, and we will post the results on the IAI website in December.

Thank you for your very many proposals for conference presentations. We have received close to 80 proposals covering many topics. We are working our way through them, trying to not only pick the best of the very good, but also produce a balanced program.

We are still interested in receiving suggestions for workshops and for posters.

Expressions of interest in presenting short or advanced conference sessions close today! We are particularly looking for introductory/tutorial/essentials presentations on various practical methods and deliverables – a 30 minute or 60 minute session on everything you need to know about doing X, including when and why, how to prepare, how to report outcomes to stakeholders, reference books to learn more, etc).

Announcing the third annual Oz-IA conference on information architecture in Sydney, Australia.

It will take place at the Stamford Plaza Double Bay over the weekend of September 20th/2st.

We’ve planned a packed schedule of basic and advanced presentations, workshops, and expert panels.

And of course, there’s the opportunity to catch up with your peers, network your way to new contacts, and have a good time.
