OK, so it took me a little longer than a couple of weeks, more legal stuff I had to deal with....

I decided to put pictures of how to sew a gusset into a bag instead of a video. Hopefully it will explain it well enough for anyone that is interested. If you have questions, leave a comment please.

The bag is standing vertical with the bottom seam up here.

Pull the bag to open it outward some and allow you to flatten it out a little on the bottom. The object is to create the v shape on each side. It should look like this.

Lay it on the sewing machine with the sides of the bag pushed to the side of the machine, you only want to sew the "v", try not to sew the side of the bag into the gusset. The v is what will make the tab as I call it, and that is what makes the gusset.

.Turn the bag right side out, and the tabs should look like this and the bag should have a nice square bottom to sit on.

I know this was not the best tutorial, but hopefully it is enough to show you the basics, then you can experiment with it and see what works best for you. I find it very helpful to sew a bunch of bags in this way before I go out to work on the dome. By using the bags like this, it makes them easier to keep on the wall, it looks better, there is not a lot of material sticking out, therefore it is easier to apply the plaster. A couple of suggestions when it comes to buying or getting your bags, I have learned the hard way. Check not just the dimensions of the bag, but also the thickness, I have mentioned it before but it is important, so I am mentioning it again, be careful of buying bags that are very thin and do not have some type of UV protection on them, especially if you live in a climate that has hot sun. Another thing, I unfortunately did not know about this sooner, but I was told you could paint the bags after you lay them and it will keep them from deteriorating so quickly if it is going to be a while before you are able to plaster. Tarps are good too, but a real pain to deal with. Well, guess that is all for now. G_d Bless you all! Ozarkmoma

That was Popeye wasn't it? To the person that left me a question a while back, and I have not answered. No, I haven't finished my house. As a person I know used to say, "Life has a way of getting in the way!" I really do keep trying to work on it, but it seems like the harder I try to work on it, the harder my neighbors keep working on causing me a life full of misery. I thought I was being paranoid about how they have been behaving, you know, you see those crazy old people in movies that think everyone is out to get them? Well, I thought maybe I was being one of those crazy old people that thinks everyone is out to get them, so I asked my adopted son Simon if I was imagining all of the bull larky, he told me that it was real, they are really doing this stuff, that I am not crazy. He said he knows because he has been here and seen it happening. Thank God that I haven't been imagining it, but unfortunately they have really been succeeding in keeping me from building my house, as well as everything else I have been trying to do.

Then there are the three attorneys that I have paid all of my money to, not only did they NOT help me, but they made it easier for these people to interfere with my life and steal from me! I know that sounds crazy, but it is true. So, I finally realized I was going to have to take the matter to court by myself, for two reasons, 1. I am so broke now I struggle to make it through the month. 2. I do not trust lawyers anymore! And while this next statement may sound crazy to some people, I actually firmly believe that I made God mad at me because, .1 I was trying to be content with letting them steal from me so I could TRY to get my work done, (in other words), I wasn't standing up for what is right, and 2. I wasn't putting my trust in our Father in Heaven, instead, I was putting it in corrupt attorneys, I know no other way of putting it. And obviously, those attorneys have an agenda, what it is, I do not know, maybe it will come out in the wash. But, I know now that if you let a thief get away with something, they will not quit trying to take more. And it wasn't that I wanted to let the thief get away with stealing from me, it was that the attorney I hired when this first started, he let the guy steal from me, and then he quit, which left me open to many years of harassment from the thief, as well as the other neighbors that are trying to take property from me. AND, who would think our laws can actually be used to make it legal to do this?

But, that is all for a different type of blog or story, I am here now to say, AGAIN, I am going to try to work on the house now, only God knows if I can. Or if I even have enough strength to do it, I have managed to let my body get completely out of shape, I think some of my muscles may even have atrophied. Something that is easy to do, and something else I need to work on. And, in a few months I will officially be elderly!

Come back in a week or two, I plan on making a vlog to show you how to sew a bag so it is gusseted, it really comes in handy. I will also be vlogging other things I do, like my attempts at lightweight cement on my roofs over the sunroom and mini loft. Another concept I find interesting is the gradual stiffening method that Dr. Owen Geiger posted a couple of years ago on his blog site. A really cool concept that I MUST try! Happy day to all! I actually managed to take my camera with me today. I decided to try and get one small job done this morning. Which means, it took hours. I most likely will not get anything else done today. No matter, at least I managed to do what I planned on doing at the dome. Well, on the most part that is.

As usual, it is obvious that I am not a carpenter!

I used the electric saw and a wood chisel to whittle away the place for the vertical log's notch to sit. Very time consuming.

I put a couple of wood screws in the bottom of the log so I could get some measurements for the logs that will brace this vertical log. In the morning I am praying I will be able to cut those logs, then assemble the entire corner frame. Then I can start on the rest of the frame for this end of the sunroom. Maybe I will get the sunroom framed out before winter, but I doubt it. Until next time Ozarkmoma

Well, not a lot to post, so this will be short.

I ran the weed eater inside the dome and sun room, plus I mowed parts of my yard and garden.

While the temperatures were cooler and the wasps were asleep, I was able to go inside the laundry room pod and get one of the scaffolds. I put it in the sun room where I am trying to frame for the roof. I got one of the long cedar logs out of the log pile, then I ran the chain saw down one side so I would have a flat side. Then I cut it to length, I managed to get it up yesterday. Needless to say, I am stove up today. I hope to work on it some more later this week, if my body will let me :-D!

Well, it has been a little while since my last post. I have been very busy, mostly taking care of my darling grandchildren, and little jobs here and there that I was able to do while watching them play in the pool. I have managed to move some dirt. If you use your imagination you can see that I have started a ramp on the left that will let me put buckets of dirt up on the dirt bridge with my little tractor. This will make it a lot faster and easier.

I also took some time to put tar on the mobile mansion during a short break, when the kids had gone home for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately the temperatures were seriously hot, with the heat index reaching around 105 and above. I had to work for a little while, and when the bottom of my feet felt like they were melting I would take a long break. It took a week to finish the tar because of it. Hopefully though, it will keep the water out of the mobile mansion a while longer. That shows you how close the dome is to the mansion.

I have also started building the arch forms to put over the doors and window. I am seriously not a carpenter! That is why I am loving the dirt, it can be fixed. Still, I think they will work when I finally finish them.

And, last but not least, I have decided to change my game plan for the roof over the sun room. Originally I was going to put the log rafters into the wall of the dome. Now I can see that due to several mistakes on my part, mostly to do with life, the best thing to do is cover the sun room as quickly as possible. So, I am putting edge members around the perimeter of the sun room, and will frame a roof over it. I plan on using the lightweight cement method, modified slightly, that is described in the book, “Latex Concrete Habitat” by Dr. Albert Knott and Dr. George Nez. As you can see, I am not a carpenter, but I think it will all be ok eventually.

I need to also let you see some of the damage from the sun, and the bugs. I estimate that the top half of the sun room walls are going to have be be re-built. Sad but true, but luckily, dirt is cheap, so there is not going to be a huge monetary cost. But, the blow to my mind, (and body) on having to re-build them is enough for sure. Hopefully this time around I will have the walls covered with a roof instead of tarps. Also, I hope to finish without getting side tracked, AGAIN! As you can see, where there is plaster the damage is much less. One thing to note, the bags can be painted if you do not have time to plaster them, I did not know this in time, but was told by one of the earth bag specialists, so I highly recommend that if you do this, at least put some exterior latex paint on the bags.

Now, I would like to take a moment to mention a couple of severe mistakes I have made during this experiment of mine.

1. I started out too big. As always, I overfill my plate, I have done this all of my life. I should have built a section, then added on after that section was finished. I thought I could finish the project quickly, and probably would have been done a long time ago, but life has a way of getting in the way of these things. So, remember Murphy’s Law when you get ready to start a project like this, and start small unless you have a crew to help you.

2. Once you have a plan, or blueprint so to speak, do not change it if at all possible. No matter what, unless it is for structural reasons.

3. Stay focused no matter how hard it gets, and believe me, it will get hard, especially if you are doing it by yourself. Granted, I have had some help along the way, but on a project of this size, you really need a crew from start to finish. So, again, start small if you're alone. If I were 'normal' I would have given up a long time ago, but as a good friend used to tell me, I am just too stupid to give up.

Sorry I have not been making regular posts, part of the reason is that I keep forgetting to do it because I am so busy, the other part of my excuse is that it is time consuming, (DUH I guess that goes without saying) :-D. Until next time. Ozarkmoma

I just wanted to make a quick post today. This is the front of the house, before I started clearing you could not see it for the brush and wild blackberry plants. Also, there are odds and ends of stuff, most of which I cannot use, but I hauled it off for an elderly couple that needed help. I will have to dispose of it.

You can see the end of the little shed, and my mobile mansion. The dirt bridge is overgrown with brush, but I am slowly clearing it, that is where I will haul dirt up to with the tractor and it will make my work a lot easier.

As you can see the tire wall does not look as good as it used to, and all of the dirt to the right of the tire wall needs to be moved out. The drain is the extension of the french drain in the tire wall, it will go behind the greenhouse that will be in that area. The drain will drain any run off from the hill side.

I am still in the process of trying to uncover the dome, there are hoards of wasps under the tarps, and snakes. If you are from the south in the US, then you can imagine how bad it is after leaving the tarps unmoved for so long. DUH! There is also damage to the house from water, most of the tarps are rotten and not working, except they do provide good nesting places for wasps. In a way I feel like I will never get this done, but I was reminded yesterday by my son Simon that every since I started this house, there has been one thing after the other to slow me down, it started with a dog bite. But, don't worry, I am 'too stupid to give up', as a good friend used to say. (She meant it in a good way). I have pulled off a lot more of the tarps, but there are still some that I am having trouble getting off because of the wasps. The dirt is getting moved out too, I will try to post more pictures soon. Hopefully I will be plastering and laying bags soon. Until next time. Ozarkmoma

A wise man once said, " Life has a way of getting in the way". As I look at the last three years of my life, that one statement becomes very apparent. Since I seem to always say I am going to start back on the dome, and then I do not, let me just say I am trying to reclaim my place from nature, because nature has truly taken over, and it seems it just took about a minute for that to happen. As I try to decide where to start working or what to work on, I become very overwhelmed, so I just get up each day and tell myself that whatever I manage to get done today, is one step closer to getting my life, and property back in order. And, as a wise woman once said, " Little by little, day by day"! As you will be able to see from the pictures, the place is overgrown, trees have died or been blown down by storms, (you won't see that since I forgot to take pictures, duh), and believe it or not, I had already been clearing and mowing before I took these pictures, but, as mentioned in the quotes, I forgot to take pictures. If the Almighty is willing though, I will get my little micro farm cleaned back up, tend my garden as instructed, and hopefully I will learn to quit letting distractions get in the way. Wow! It has been over a year since my last post, I hope you haven't given up on me! As I mentioned in my last post, I spend almost all of my time working on my school work. I keep hoping that somehow I will be able to squeeze in a little work on the dome here and there, but too many things require my attention, which doesn't leave any time for the dome! However, I am going to try really hard to make a goal of creating a schedule that has a small portion of my time set aside for the dome. Even if it is only a few hours a week, it is better than nothing. There is a small problem now though. On top of having a shortage of time and money, now I am disabled because of spinal problems. No need to worry though, remember I am too stupid to give up! I will figure out a way around it, and of course it is going to take even longer because of it, but it will get done. Hi, happiness and peace to all! As I suspected, I am totally spending 90% of my free time on trying to get my school work done. That leaves me 0% time for working on the house. In fact, were it not for my beloved Sister, I would really be in a lot worse shape time wise.

She came for a very short visit 9-1-13, and saw how unorganized and stressed I was. She convinced me to take time out to get some storage space for my books and stuff. Thank you Sis!!!

It was part of my birthday present, she bought me some stuff I could not afford to buy, and helped me set it up and gave me useful ideas.

I did manage to work on the mini loft. I have a skylight for it, but first I have to make up my mind as to how I want to finish building this mini loft and what type of roof I want on it. I am really drawn to the light weight cement concept in the 'Latex Concrete Habitat' book by Albert Knott and George Nez. But, I need to do something quickly, so I wish I would make my mind up! DUH.

My tarps are worn out and I hate to take pictures right now because they look so tacky. I will be replacing them soon, I think, since I am not going to get the house in the dry any time soon. The cedar logs still need to be trimmed down, but the big red wasps do not like to be disturbed and they are under the tarps. Any banging or vibrations and they attack. So, my real dilemma though, is having one day a week right now to get yard, house cleaning, and everything else done as well as homework from school. Hi everyone! Not much going on with the dome right now, I did manage to work a little on the mini loft last Sunday, however, I did not take any pictures. Today, I will try to work on it a bit more, no promises. IF I do, then I will try to take a picture of any small bit of progress I might make. Again, no promises. The purpose of this post is to thank Cordelia, a friend of my sister, for sending word to me as to what type of flower that is in the post from a month or so ago. Thank you Cordelia. And to anyone that is curious, the name of the flower is, Butterfly Pea. She said she used to plant them when she lived in Texarkana, Arkansas. So, that small mystery is solved for me! Finally, someone came and moved dirt for me. This is as high as I will go with the tires.

This is where I hope to make a greenhouse that will have the fish tanks, I sure hope I can get all of that done soon!

And, the operator brought up some of the big rocks that I have been wanting, they had gotten pushed off into the 'wash', or what a lot of people call the 'creek'. I will incorporate them into the area in front of the tire wall, and someday the tire wall will be plastered and it will look a lot different. I go back to school Monday, I am taking 15 hours this semester, I would like to think I could squeeze in some work on the house here and there, but I am pretty sure that is wishful thinking. But, you never know. I still have Sunday to work out there, maybe I will get something done, I also have to put up the swimming pool that I got for the grands, but Lord willing it won't take me too long to get that done!! I have managed to do a little bit of work, I actually managed to cut these two poles off right before I fell. These are around the sun-room and I am cutting them all off, I realized they were around four foot too tall. DUH!

Although this has absolutely nothing to do with the dome, I am so curious as to what type of flower this is, so if anyone would happen to know I would really appreciate it if you would tell me. It is a wild flower, the size is around 1 inch. It has been raining here, which is very unusual for this time of year, and this flower came right after the rain.

I have been working on the tire wall. Tires are a really good building material for young, strong people with good backs. I WILL NOT BE BUILDING WITH THEM AGAIN. Not unless it is a foundation or steps, never will I build whole retaining walls with them unless someone comes and does it for me. And since I can not afford to hire any help, that is not going to happen. The tires would not be so bad, but, the tire stores do not care if you want small tires, they just put what they want to put in there, I kept telling them I did not want certain tires, and they just kept putting them in there, so I ended up with a bunch of tires I did not want. That is the problem with getting your tires from a place like that. I really can not figure that out, I realize beggars can not be choosers, but was I not saving them $2.00 for every tire they put in my truck? If I ever need tires again, I will not get them from the tire store in Morrilton, Arkansas, that is for sure! Until next time, God bless~Ozarkmoma!

This post is for anyone that is still out there checking to see if I am ever going to finish this house. I fell trying to move a log and hurt my right wrist. I can use it now as long as I am careful. So, I have two weeks before the next semester of school starts. Wonder if I can get anything done at all? Only the Lord knows. I will have to fight to reclaim the dome, wasps and such have taken over down there. Seems a little hopeless at times, but remember, I am too stupid and hardheaded to give up. Until next time. So, I have not had any satellite signal for a while, so I decided to cut down this tree down to clear the path of the satellite. Still no signal, but the tree needed to come down, I attached chains and a cable, to a come along which was attached to the back of my truck. The reason for this, I was afraid it would fall either on my mobile mansion, or, shed, or the cat pen.

That is a 20ft extension ladder, I used a long pc of bamboo and pushed a chain up, into the v of the tree which was too far up for the ladder to reach. Again, this just shows I am too stupid to give up! :-D

Instead, it fell on the pods of the dome. I do not think there was any damage to the dome though. I will not know until I start cutting up the tree.

Before winter came, I had built the make-shift hoop room against the side of the sun room. It worked really well, but unfortunately, I forgot to water stuff, and some of the spinach and lettuce died. Most of the house plants survived. I took it down, and now I must clean up the big mess before I start working on the house again. Hello to anyone that has still been watching for updates on my Blog. I am sorry I have not made any new posts since November, a lot of stuff going on. First, I was laid off from my job, now I am trying to get re-educated so I might have a better chance of getting a new job. That may or may not be a good thing, but one thing is for certain, I have absolutely no time to do anything around my place, and I mean I do not do anything other than work a job at the school part time, study and go to class. Wow! It is really hard going to college. So, enough of my whining Next week are finals, and I will have about two weeks after that to get my yard mowed, bath the dogs and other chores that aren't getting done right now. Hopefully I will get them caught up, then back to school for summer, BUT, I am hoping to start working on the house at least one day a week. Friday I mixed dirt with lime and left it in the mixer until today. I managed to cover this section of the dome, then a small area that was not covered on the wall I want to use for keeping my plants warm and alive this winter, I hope.Nothing much to tell. Until next time. God bless. Ozarkmoma

I went to my sisters house this week end for a really quick visit. Our friend from Rhode Island was here and unfortunately I was not able to spend any time with them, other than run down to her house for a few hours. While I was there my sister took me out to one of their ponds and I collected two small samples of duckweed. I put one sample into the tub with my water lilies, and this is the other. I am going to learn how to grow it.....

Yesterday I had one day to do all of the things that I needed to do, so I only did a few of the most important chores, I took care of the critters, and picked my little bit of fresh produce for the day, here I have some collard greens, some tops off of the brussel plants, a few tomatoes, and the sweet potatoes were laying on top of the ground so I picked them and put a soda can next to them for size comparison.

I planted some container gardens, LOL!!! The taller pots have potatoes, I want to try to keep a fresh crop of potatoes growing through the winter months in containers, ...?! I also mowed my garden and plan on planting some type of winter crops in it, even though last year after I had planted it my neighbors cows came over and ate everything in it I am going to be goofy enough to plant again!!! DUH

Last but not least I screened dirt for plastering next week end when I get a day to do it, IF I get a day to do it. I really have to get it done before hard winter sets in. I also plan on building the lean-to-hoop-room next week end!! LOL Big plans, always! Until next time. God bless...Ozarkmoma

I found this mushroom, I have never seen one like it, I have no idea what type it is, but I would love to know if anyone out there can tell me.

These pictures do not do it justice, it was a very pretty mushroom.

Well, another month of working on the house missed. What can I say? Life gets in the way sometimes. Although, the time I have missed was spent well in other areas of my life. OK, winter is on the way, and I need to get as much protective plaster on this house as possible. Sunday afternoon, I had a few hours, luckily I had some dirt already screened for plaster, so, all I had to do is load it into the mixer, and add some other ingredients. Unfortunately, when ever I am in a hurry I always make a bad mix. This mix was no exception. Plus there was a snake in the bag of lime, and of course I didn't look before I put my hand in there! But, unfortunately for the snake, lime is not the best place to sleep for the winter.

I got most of the wall covered, a little more and then I can focus on building some type of lean to hoop room.I would like to put it along this side of the sun room, and then access it through the window opening from the other side. I will cover that opening with something, possibly a door of some type for now.

I am hoping to grow a few fresh greens for salads this winter if I can, plus keep my growing crop of house plants alive here because my mobile mansion is not big enough for all of them. To the person that left me the anonymous comment. Thank you for your kind words. I am not worried about being noticed by the people that are big in this type of business, I am really hoping though to help inspire other people. But, I do appreciate their knowledge, and expertice. I hope that what I share here will be useful to someone along the way. I really believe with God's help we can do whatever we set our minds to. I post my work to give information to others that are as poor as I am, because I can not afford to pay someone to do it for me and I am sure there are others like me out there. Hello to all! My schedule is changing, and after Sept. 7Th I will be posting my blogs on a different day. Probably Saturday night, or Sunday before noon CST United States. But next week I will make it on Thursday night. I finally made it to the pods this week. I laid two rows on the laundry room pod, and put two by fours in to lay plywood on top. The pantry pod was only one row behind. I will be putting 2x6 boards in it when I lay the next row.

As soon as I finished laying the last bags on the laundry room pod, I started getting ready for the rain that was being forecast as a result of the hurricane Isaac. I had a new pile of dirt piled up the day before my sister came, and on the hill behind it were mounds, and holes below, where the bucket of the backhoe pulled dirt up and some of them were deep too, so I smoothed it out and shoveled dirt into the holes and made a ditch for the water to run down , if I had not done that I am sure that I would have a pond there right now because it did rain a lot, I do not know how much, I do not have a rain gauge anymore. It worked, I checked it this afternoon and it drained away from the pile really well.

Then I covered the pods with the awesome cotton tarp my sister brought. Her daughter's boss gave them to her, and she gave them to my sister. Thank you all for the tarps. They are heavy and very good tarps. They are really big too, when they put big bales of cotton on to semi trucks, and or rail cars I suppose, they cover them with one of these tarps. The only draw back is I didn't have any way to slant the tarps, so they got water pockets in them and I had to cut the tarps in various places to get the water out of the pockets, sad, but I had to do it. I can still use them and they did a fantastic job keeping the pods dry. Until next Thursday. God bless you all. Ozarkmoma

Howdy folks, there isn't a lot to talk about this week. Sorry I am a day late, but I sort of lost track of my days...? DUH! As you can see I am still working on the sun room. But, I think I am far enough along that I can cover it and let it sit a while. I am really wanting to catch up on the pods. So, I think that is what I am going to do next week.

My Sister, gotta love the boots huh?

Thanks to all of the help of my Sister and grandchildren, this is finally at a stopping point. All I need to do now is finish up the buttresses, and plaster it inside and out, oh, don't forget the roof, duh!
