The Big O Complete Series Batch

This release contains the complete Big O series in 720p and 1080p forms, as well as associated bonus materials. The files contained within are the final versions of the Big O releases. Bonus materials are only available in the 1080p pack.

Changes made are:

- Version 2 for 1080p Episode 14. This corrects a missing staff credit in the opening credits. This was already fixed in the 720p release and did not need a v2.

Some additional info regarding the CD Drama Theater bonus material: Included is a 720p video containing full subs for the live performance. As the performance was only released on CD, I've created a sort of slideshow-like clip to accompany the subtitles. Also, I'd like to give special thanks to FireBomberSeven for his help translating the missing lines not found in the translated script, which allowed me to finally finish the batch.

There will be no support for the individual episode files as of this release. Any seed requests for those episodes should instead be directed to this torrent. New Poll Update - Toonami Edition

Hello folks, I'm baaack! (and I'm not the only one!) I can't believe it's been almost a year and a half since the last poll, but this topic is so relevant to our roots with most of our releases being Toonami shows, that I just couldn't ignore it. In case you haven't heard the news, Toonami makes its return tonight at midnight, May 26/27th, on Adult Swim. All right, raise your hand if you were like me and the first thought that came to your mind on hearing Toonami being brought back was a weekday afternoon anime timeslot. Well, this isn't exactly the same Toonami that was the gateway for many anime fans, including most of the staff here, because Cartoon Network was responsible for that and now it's the Adult Swim network that's bringing the block back. The new Toonami anime schedule is as follows:

12:00 a.m. - Bleach
12:30 a.m. - Deadman Wonderland*
1:00 a.m. - Casshern Sins*
1:30 a.m. - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop

QUESTION: What do you think about this new Toonami lineup?

Commentary:

I want to remain optimistic that this will go well for Adult Swim, but at the same time, I'm doubtful that this will cause drones of new fans to get into anime and older fans who may have not been watching Adult Swim's lineup to suddenly come back just because of the name brand recognition of "Toonami" and new bumpers with T.O.M. being slapped onto what is mostly the same schedule they've always had except with 2 new shows that aren't exactly smash hits replacing DRRR!!, FLCL, and Big O. Now, obviously, the April Fool's Day broadcast they pulled off generated tremendous buzz among older fans which ultimately caused this revival, but we have to remember that the shows aired that night were the shows that made Toonami so popular back then, not what they have currently. From what AS has said, I understand that they aren't able to get the type of popular shows that people want to see on their lineup because of financial reasons, so it'll be interesting to see if that will end up being Toonami's downfall, this time likely for good. I thought they should've kept Durarara!! on, that was a really good show, a show that I had heard good things about but probably would not have seen if it didn't show up on AS. It's a shame it got pulled so quickly like Code Geass was, both would've been perfect for Toonami. And I wonder if they ever thought about getting Gundam 00 since it's a long-running, action packed show that's similar to Wing, but I imagine it was probably out of their price range like many other shows or that Syfy still has those rights. Anyways, I will be watching tonight and I urge you too as well, if you can, to show your support, and who knows, maybe I'll end up liking Casshern Sins as well.

By the way, if you haven't heard of nerdcore rapper/hardcore Gundam fan Richie Branson, seriously check him out. His work with Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Initial D, and especially helping to Bring Back Toonami are pretty badass!

Status of Planetes and Other Stuff

Since Planetes has taken far longer than I planned, I wanted to post another update as to what is going on. All of the raw encodes needed were complete, but due to a glitch in a filter update that didn't appear until the files were encoded, I had to throw out Episodes 19-26 and re-encode them from scratch. After a discussion with the filter author, a workaround was coded up. I currently have 4 systems all encoding the episodes that needed to be redone, and I'm using the broken encodes to get all the audio and subbing work done ahead of time. At this point, I'm not going to put a date on starting it, but I am still working on it and it will not be dropped.

In the meantime, I'm putting the finishing touches on a re-release of MS IGLOO's 720p versions, encoded direct from the source this time. I only need to QC them to make sure everything transitioned over and I can get them released, so keep an eye out for those. I'll just be batching them in one bulk release as there is no need to release them individually.

Also, the Zegapain batch is finally uploading and on track to be released soon.

The Big O batch is all but ready except for one thing holding it up. As part of the batch bonus material, the CD Drama is going to be included with a subbed video track. However, there are about 5-6 lines that the translated script didn't include. At this point, I'm putting out the call for someone who can translate a few lines so I can complete the subs and release the batch. If you are interested in helping with the translation, drop me a message on IRC.

That about covers everything I wanted to post an update for right now. Any questions, comments, or complaints can be directed to IRC or Twitter, where they will receive prompt attention or be entirely ignored, depending on the mood of the staff at the particular time.

New iOS news today...

New iPad and AppleTV today

So what does that mean for what i'm releasing with the iOS HD files? Nothing and everything...

First of all these new devices support 1080p like the iPhone 4s... So with the upcoming batch of The Big O there will be two versions... 720P for those like me that don't have the newest and 1080p for those that do.

The 1080p batch will come MUCH later than the 720p because I need to test new settings and well NEED a device to test them on... But yes once I get the new settings I will release both 720p and 1080p versions... this will take some time so please be patient...

On a similar note, the upcoming batches will have a few v2 files and will include all the "extra" items being released in the main batch. Even though they seem to be following by the way side I will also be including 4 iTunes Extras in this batch. This batch will probably be out sometime after april 30th as thats when I and my family move into our new house and I get my main computer back.

Planetes, Batches, and More

OK, so I was going to post this yesterday but I ended up too busy laughing at the sheer insanity that was the 2012 Daytona 500. But now here it is.

Planetes - I only just got started encoding the last 11 episodes, and I forgot how much slower these encode as compared to my newer method used on Big O. That being said, I'm hoping to start releasing these Thursday, March 1 and work through with a similar release plan as Big O, one episode a day. Since I won't have as large a buffer built up, I'm not certain that I won't miss a day, but I'll try to stay consistent.

Planetes 720p Releases - CMan will be completing the conversions on these, and I'll be working with him to distro them. We'll likely use torrents as I've been doing for Big O. Not much else to tell here.

Zegapain Batch - Once Planetes is completed, I'll be finally pushing out the Zegapain batch. I have a few more bonus materials to encode from the BDs, as well as finishing up the subtitle styling update and re-upload, but this is high on my priority list right behind finishing Planetes.

Patlabor OVA Batch - This one will go up sometime after the Zegapain batch. I don't recall anything with it that would require fixing, so it'll just be the same as the single episodes + some bonus material.

Big O Batch - Again, there shouldn't be anything that needs patching here, so this will just be a collection of the 26 episodes and the bonus material I have for it. Hoping to have this put together by mid to late March. EDIT - As I tweeted earlier, Episode 14 will get a v2 as I noticed an issue while working on the 720p version.

Big O 720p Releases - The encodes on episodes 12-26 are just about complete, then all I have to do is assemble and upload them. I'm hoping to start releasing these by the end of the week.

Big O FLAC Batch - I'm working on uploading this now and I am aiming for early next week to get this posted.

New Series - I haven't decided what I want to do next but I'm aiming to start in April. I might do something short and a movie, I'm not sure.

Oh, and yes, this technically is a Release Schedule Update... the first in over a year. How about that.
