The children have enjoyed being in school all day since the end of September. They are all confident with the lunch time routine and are coping well with the afternoon sessions. We have a busy term ahead with lots of interesting and exciting activities.
Language
We are continuing to learn new sounds each week. The children are beginning to blend simple words using their phonic knowledge. We are still adding to our word tins so please keep up the practice !

Maths
We are working with numbers within 10 and using the language before, after, between, one more than and one less than. This term we will introduce the concept of addition. We are also learning the number names zero to ten.

Topic Work
The children are enjoying the topic work and in particular the active play session on Thursdays, based around the story of the Rainbow Fish. Soon we will be introducing our dinosaur topic.

Please remember to check that all your child's property and clothing is labelled, including lunch boxes, wallets/purses and water bottles.

Term 1 Update : September 2010

The children are settling into Primary 1 routines and very much enjoyed the recent M & M Production of The Railway Children. They have made an excellent start to the Storyworlds reading scheme. It would be very helpful if words are practised regularly. We have also been learning two new sounds each week. It would be beneficial if sound detective jotters are revisited frequently. The children have been enjoying practical sorting and pattern activities. We are using a variety of number rhymes and songs to reinforce teaching of numbers to 5.
